DayZ Standalone Discussion

Why? Because that is what companies do. Sometimes dates are pushed back, we get it. Though you typically pick a date, and have deadlines for a reason. -
DayZ Standalone Discussion
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to griffinz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Using WarZ is just another excuse people have on why we don't have the standalone yet. The following Day Z has over War Z is just... not even comparable. War Z tried to cash in on the success of Day Z and I wouldn't exactly say they "failed" because as far as I know the game is still active and still in development. I think what burns people the most about War Z is that they tried to lie to the costumer about content, features, etc. What bothers me is the "we don't know" response from Rocket. How does a company not know when they are going to release their product? -

Obviously I have interest in the game, or else I wouldn't be here. Though I am looking at it realistically and not like drooling idiots who worship Rocket's nutsack. I posted above some observations and include Pros and Cons from that observation. There is nothing "uneducated" about my post. Bohemia took Arma 2 and altered it ever so slightly to make Take on Helicopters. For Rocket to say Take on Helicopters is better looking visually than Arma 2 is beyond me. They are the exact same and if anything TOH is worse with their ridiculous car models reminding me of Sim City. The plan since the beginning was to take the Arma 2 engine, remove the unnecessary things from it like Combat AI and polish up a few of the other features; as well adding a few features from the other games. Then release that like the minecraft model, and build upon it from there. That has always been the plan and I don't see anything having changed from that plan other than the release. -
Hacker Prevention - A Rather Simple Solution
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to person915's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Honestly, Bohemia should be hosting all servers in the Standalone like how typical MMO's run their games. No more player hosting/editing/etc. Servers should be "worlds" ... each world is separate and you can't just character hop between them. Only one character per world and that character is fixed to that world. It's really the only solution to a standalone game... Otherwise, I don't see the point. -

It's a recycled mix mash of an engine. -
Your Shoot On Sight Threshold?
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to Taggert1313's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I just started playing again after about a month plus departure. Joining up with friends we usually, since there is nothing else to do in this game, gather all our necessities and then go shoot people. Sometimes we'll just run straight into Electro or Cherno and hatchet it up with the rest of the players as, again... there is nothing else to do in this game. Though every server there are hackers, teleporters, god mode, etc. This mod really is on some borrowed time and lacking in replayability -
DayZ Standalone Discussion
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to griffinz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Alright, you keep telling yourself that and believe what you want... Everything I have seen is identical more or less to the mod. There are going to be a few tweaks under the hood, but it is not a "new" engine. It is Arma 2, with a few ideas from Arma 3 and Take on Helicopters... Take on Helicopters, is like 95% identical to Arma 2 as well. Play it for yourself. -
What's your best moment in DayZ?
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to Torrefy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Cherno, almost bleeding out because I broke my leg walking up the stairs in the apartments and fell unconscious. Bandaged myself and crawled across the street to the hospital. Busted the window with some cans, but can't get inside to grab morphine. Actually, started bleeding again/unconscious trying to crawl through the window. Classic. -
DayZ Standalone Discussion
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to griffinz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is so not true in any way shape or form. Going standalone and getting access to the Arma engine, and tweaking it was the goal from the start. Nothing is being rewritten from scratch. Day Z Standalone, minus some engine tweaks (adding new features from take on helicopters, and Arma 3. Removing Arma 2's tactical AI and optimizing the engine to suit "Day Z") is going to be very similar to Day Z Mod. -
DayZ Standalone Discussion
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to griffinz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm not impressed with what I've seen from all the updates. Screenshots look no better than the mod. I don't understand the "wow" factor people write about it, when it's pretty much the same thing. Maybe I've some untrained eye but the "Day Z vs Standalone" Comparison screenshot looks like the brightness was turned down some, and the Standalone has an additional structure/road it looked like. Wow! Seriously people... Some of my cons. - No real character progression other than gear... which is the only way we "progress" in the mod. - A disease system that I cannot see adding to the gameplay in anyway shape or form. Yeah great, I just took some boots off a dead guy and now I have some deadly virus. That's going to be as lame as breaking a leg walking through a doorway. - Release date, to which everyone thought was nearly concrete of Dec 2012. Now a "we don't know." So, before we were under the impression we would be getting a work in progress game. Now should we assume we are going to be getting a basic polished/ready to go version? Some of my pros. + Customizable weapons, clothing, and persons. This is kind of "standard" in any game, honestly. People want to personalize and make things their own. Finding that new baseball cap and getting a tattoo is not really progression however. (See con above) + Mad Max styled vehicles. This is another as to be expected in this type of game, just happy it'll be added (maybe). Though who knows if we will ever get it. + MMO Server Architiect I sincerely hope that along with this we will be getting official Day Z-only servers. Characters are dedicated to those servers/worlds like in typical MMOs and no community servers. I really doubt this will happen though and it'll be another... same as we have deal except how the "Data" is handled. -
You're going to be complaining when the SA comes around and all the zombies are sprinting at you in every direction in/outside buildings, destroying your car, etc.
-
A major problem with this is the majority of the people who are inevitably turned into Zombies wouldn't be carrying what they would typically be carrying. A police officer probably wouldn't have a firearm on him at all. He would have most likely been using that to engage zombies, probably ran out of ammo or dropped the weapon while by being mobbed and eaten. Generic loot like car keys, cellphones, cigarettes, and stuff one would typically find in someones pockets should be rather plentiful though.

Why has the "debug" monitor made a return in 1.7.4.4?
Dreygar (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, I know it probably has something to do with the whiners wanting to know their humanity/stats. I know it's not quite a "debug" monitor now and more of a "statistic" monitor... but it is incredibly annoying to have on my screen. (I play in 1360x768) or something on a 42" screen. So it's rather large. I don't care about my humanity/how many zombies/players i've killed. Any way to disable it? -
My assumptions is that Zombies will suck in SA as well, considering they seem to like the running aspect of the Zombies and Zombies will now be running indoors. Will it be more challenging? Sure, but it's not an improvement. So unless the game suggests otherwise I am sticking to my guns in that the Zombies in Day Z mod/game do and will suck. Assumption, Opinion, you call it what you will. My only gripe is people who throw out the ideas of things like base building, and other advanced content because they are happy with the state of the mod. They just want to run around and find next to nothing and die of thirst/hunger because there is no food... and then just shoot at one another. That is not fun in any means, least for me. For this game to be successful long-term there needs to be a lot of good content, and "underground bunkers" just aren't cutting it for me in that department.
-
It was a bit off of what the Op suggested, but going on about the base building in general is where I aimed my comment to you at. Base building is a great idea and won't detract from anything. It can be a lengthy process to gather resources and the tools in order to build something and make this game much more than a loot/eat/drink/run around and die game. Zombies, are not the main focus of this game so being able to create some kind of defense to keep you safe from them shouldn't even be an issue. If I wanted to play Survive the Zombies there are much better games for that. Who cares if Dreygar is the lone survivor out in the woods with a little shack and a few plants/livestock? If that is how Dreygar wants to play his game and he has accomplished all the things in order to even get to that stage then so be it. This game needs content like this and not the same ole... Spawn, Run to town, Loot. Go north, loot. Find vehicle... Meet friends. Loot... Kill players... Die... Spawn again. There NEEDS to be content in order for this game to be successful, least for me. If I want to just run around shooting at people I can play Arma 2/3 or some other shooting game. Zombies suck in this game, and not even something I play this game for. If you do, that's great. I play it for the survival aspects and if I want to gather resources to go survive in the wild, or if I want to go meet up with friends and make a "base" ... then the tools for that should be provided. If all we're left with is some shitty ass disease mechanic and some stupid 28 Days Later zombies then I won't even bother with this game. The only thing that detracts from gameplay is the lack of content/things to do, and the repetitiveness of the little things that are in the game.
-
I really want to know how this idea detracts from Day Z? I mean seriously, people like you should just play the mod and not even play the Stand alone since you seem oh-so-happy with its current form. Day Z needs content like this, and it is entirely within the scope of the goal. Do you honestly think survivors in an apocalypse won't try to fortify an existing building or try to rebuild elsewhere? Scavenging for materials to construct with adds yet another element and depth to the game. Not to mention the ability to store, collect, protect and create your own form of civilization within those boundaries. Oh, and before you go on about how it affects performance... it has been done in games before and quite successfully.

That's the point. You shouldn't have a game mechanic telling you a person is bad. -

I'm going to start a pimp service within the Day Z world full of bearded women.. cause... lets face it people are weirdos.

To add to the survival aspects... would be pretty cool if there were some parts of the map (maybe extending to another map) that were entirely incapable of reaching on foot. Say you had to climb the face of a mountain requiring climbing gear, lots of rations and water... warm clothing, etc. Might be a lot of things up there such as animals, etc that could be very valuable for trade / or can sustain ones life if they choose to go the mountain man route. Making it yet another risk vs reward element. However resource gathering is implemented in crafting, some of those resources would only be available in hard to reach areas (multiple areas and randomized so no one group can just camp an area, but if found they can camp/defend it and thus have some control over those resources). Helicopters would make getting to these areas faster/easier. Depending though, altitude / terrain might prevent them in some areas. Would be pretty cool I think. Just another aspect of the game that may seem awesome to some but others not interested (but no one is forcing them to go there.)

Suggestion for a Better Humanity System
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to koze's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Best humanity system is one without humanity. All that should be done per the user and not a game mechanic. -
Helicopters are simply awesome. Take on Helicopters, is garbage.
-
Take on Helicopters is nearly identical to Arma 2 flight, only differences being the startup/shutdown sequences and added elements like annoying and unrealistic rotor wash.

The standalone will have customizable clothing and not the same ole generic character clone as everyone else. This is still a horrible suggestion. -
