Imagine DayZ (SA) where loot didn't respawn. Loot, spread all over the map in abundance; minus the craze of people stock piling/raiding/looting at the beginning of the Zombie event. So the supermarket, the mall, that fire station, that police station... would all be stacked with their respective loot. A player comes by, takes as much/whatever he wants... moves on. Whatever is left remains, but nothing new will come in. Sooner or later the supermarket will be picked clean, etc. It would add a lot to the realism, and make trading/items more valuable. I won't go as far as to say only 1 helicopter per map, etc... the gear upon initial startup of the server/game would be randomized in a realistic fashion. You won't find shotguns in a fire station, though you might find someones personal pistol in their locker or something. (Though to go with the below section, if someone dropped a weapon it would remain wherever they dropped it as long as it is within a structure.) I would even go as far as to say your items could be dropped and would remain in that location, but I understand some people might just drop random crap throughout the map just to mess with people so the game mechanics could probably take those dropped items (if not within a structure, or within a radius of a player base) and make that item disappear/reappear back to their respective random locations within X amount of time. I dunno, just an idea. What are your thoughts?

I honestly don't like the idea of server restarts wiping things clean. A player won't hoarde anything if you take all their stuff away magically. A lot of people like to collect things, myself included.

Well, unfortunately when I made this thread we didn't really know how the Standalone was going to work. I thought it was going to work more on a "World" MMO-type basis for servers and not just the same formula as Arma/The mod. What I thought: World A, consisting of a max of like 1000 players at any given time.Connected by say 10 servers that all hold 100 people each. These are locked servers. You cannot switch from World A, to World B using the same character. They are different worlds and you would have to make a new character. IE, preventing hopping and other issues. Just like in a typical MMO if you join a game, your character is locked to that game. You connect to the world and you play with hundreds of thousands of people simultaneously till the game reaches its max capacity. What we're getting: Player calls up Dayz.st (or your preferred hoster) ... Buys a 60 slot server DayZ Hive server... everyone connects to it... people can server hop or do whatever nonsense they want. Same as mod, same as how Arma works, nothing new.

DayZ SA: Make zombies a threat
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to maninthewall's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You cannot make Zombies more of a threat without first addressing other issues of the game, which is a players inability to properly defend themselves (A proper Melee system) Also making zombies one hit bleed/break legs is just stupid and doesn't make them more of a threat but more annoying. We don't know how powerful they are going to be in the standalone but just that their pathing is being tweaked and they'll have a new skeleton and new animations. Though we can look at other games (Dead Island) that have zombies sprinting at you and their game is built around Melee. So it works. Melee hasn't even been worked on by the development team per the PAX Q&A and I'll reserve my opinion till we see more on how they will do it. I don't know how much experience Bohemia has on melee, but inexperience should allow them to experiment. Lets just hope it's not as lame as WarZ's Melee... and not as simple as the Mod's melee. -
I'm amazed at your skills. Just because you're on servers that have adjusted loot tables and find everything to be plentiful means that the weapon should be removed? I like the idea that magazines will be entities and you will have to maintain them as well as manually load them. I think it's going to change the way people play a lot. Though maybe not seeing the new inventory system which will allow us to carry a lot more things. Though, as standard with anything on forums. If someone is complaining about something or wants something changed then there is an underlying reason. You finding them to be too common, hardly convinces me that is your reason. If you've only ever been shot 1-2 times in your experience playing the game, then obviously them being common on your server isn't that much of a big deal? You guys can petition and convince Rocket and the Devs all you want that every single thing you want in the game is overpowered, and not needed... and you know what? In the end, we'll have only a handful of guns and run around with tree branches and sling shots and no one has fun.

They keep them in the Arms room, along with the rest of the weapons.. Duh. Obviously not exposed as a motorpool with a hundred vehicles. Oh, and good luck finding ammunition for that 25mm; that won't be in the Arms room. Not every unit will have an M107 in their Arms room, only slotted for specific units. Also, you won't find ammunition in an arms room either.

If you could make a Makeshift Gun/Melee Weapon in DayZ with no limitations..
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to Shrapnell's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't know what I'd want to make for a weapon, would probably be cool if you could make a bomb of sorts. Everyone likes explosions. -

Suicide bomb? -
I would like to think that nothing was safe in a Zombie Apocalypse. Animals included. Oh, and I don't like beans. :( I think it would be cool to dress up as a Zombie and try to fit in with them like Bill Murray in Zombieland. :P

Should we alert the police that your wife's remains are in your basement? -

Dreygar (DayZ) replied to Shrapnell's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hammering some nails through a bat and other such weapons will most likely be the way the "crafting" system in Day Z will work. I don't think it'll be anything like Dead Island though which isn't fitting for Day Z. -
Personally, I have no issues with the .50 cal. I think they, as well as other sniper rifles should be added to the game. I don't really care if there was 100 different weapons to choose from, as again I like options. That doesn't mean you'll find all 100 of them, some could be more rare than others. I think a lot of people want a game that everything is so rare that it crumbles the point of a game like this. They want everyone running around with sticks and stones. If I had any issues with weapons, it's that the less powerful but equally deadly rounds such as the M9s, Makarovs, MP5s, Bizon's, etc are super weak.
-
I'm all for a weight system, to be honest. I don't think anyone should pass out or anything though. It would just alter movement/speed and require them to consume more thirst. This has been suggested before though.
-
So the AS50 isn't on their list, but they have two other .50 caliber rifles to take the AS50/M107's place.
-
I've only stumbled on I think 2-3 .50 cals in all my time playing, other times my friends stumbled on them first. To be honest? I don't pick them up usually, if anything I'll bury it in a zombie or let my friend have it. I'm not as effective with them as I am with an assault rifle, and I'd rather have 4 mags of 30 rounds than 4 mags of 10 rounds. Though I don't see the point in restricting other peoples play just because that's not how I want to play.

The fact that there are military present, is reason enough. The military is a simple structure. There are teams, squads, platoons, each with their own jobs and designations and each with their own specialty weapons. It's not something they go, hey we need this... it's something that if they are required to have.

Sorry, I think you're just whining because you've been killed over and over again. I've been shot at by AS50/M107s, and lived... (because they missed) Meaning it's not as easy to point and click as you seem to think. A lot of it does require some skill, most likely gained by them practicing with it a lot or not. I'm great with a G17, because I love the sights on that thing... but give me some other types of pistols and I am bad with them because I haven't used them as much. Same with the AS50/M107s. I can't just pick up an M107 and shoot someone 800 meters away, it does take some skill and practice. If I get hit by one of those rounds, surely death would be immediate... and in the lucky chance I do survive, I wouldn't live long anyway. I'm sure you're one of those people who support the debug monitor so you know exactly how much blood you have too? People will always defend what they like, and oppose what they don't like... Most weapons in the game will kill a player without much trouble. So what if I had to empty two more rounds into you with my M4? You're already unconscious on the ground and I could walk up to you and shoot you in the face.

This isn't Iraq or Afghanistan. There are no FOBs. This isn't a warzone, but a country with its own military and own military bases... not some military-occupied third world country.
-
I wish they did their own hosting and made this game into a proper MMO instead of just stealing its "architect" ...

Every weapon is deadly. I like having choices. Should .50 calibers stay? Absolutely. Are they over powered? No. It's a devestating round. As far as being shot in the foot by an AS50 and dying, judging by the new medical system I think it will be a lot different since your blood, shock, and health are separate. Though it might not kill you, in a zombie apocalypse where proper medical help is rare or non-existant you will most likely go into shock/die/be eaten by zombies. People need to stop complaining just because they get repeatedly killed by something doesn't mean it needs to be removed from the game.

Well, I watched that video and a thought quickly came to mind. So many people, and now with Rocket supporting, about the KOS issues. You're essentially building the player base with the release of the SA. They have the opportunity to reface Day Z away from what the Mod has done to players.., which is basically them getting bored and turning it into a multiplayer deathmatch. So lets see here. I don't think anything we've seen from the standalone will be changing the behavior of players, but giving a player less to look forward to will result in them resorting to the mod-like behavior sooner rather than later. This is my opinion of course, and we're going to have to wait and see... but just from my own experiences the game is essentially the same. Nothing really is changing. Zombies, will be different but we'll get used to them. Loot will eventually be predictable... and then what else is there? Oh right, killing one another. Not that I have a problem with it. It'll just be interesting to see what else they add for the initial release to combat the lack of content. June to August/Sept is a long time for Day Z where it really isn't that difficult to grasp how the game works in a relatively short amount of time. Probably 2-3 days if not less.

I think the biggest reason for success for the mod is that it is a sandbox. Just throw players in and see what they do, and that is what I love about these games.

We need a completely different loot system
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to _Anubis_ (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm sorry, but personally I don't understand why people think resources would be depleted almost instantly. People have families to care for. They are going to gather up what they can in their home, stay there or try to go to other relatives so that they can all stay together. Only a few people would be raiding supermarkets, a lot of people will be scared to go to a place like that. Do you know how many Super Walmarts are in America? How long it would take even 1000 people to raid it? Now, throw in some zombies and see the massacre. Only the bravest and armed people would attempt to go in these places... Then, the human factor ... if someone was able to secure a hospital or a supermarket and defended it. Movies use scarcity for drama, but in reality I imagine it would take a long time. The rats would get into everything before a supermarket got emptied out. Without power the meats would spoil and without air conditioning it would be pretty unbearable to even enter one... As a new player you experience the game at its fullest, but you play and play and play and everything becomes really easy. Only thing to keep the game fresh for veteran players will be new things they have to learn. -
I'll pass on mods. Granted Day Z is a mod, and without it we wouldn't be able to have enjoyed the game. Leave the modding to Arma, and keep Day Z SA authentic... That's my opinion of course, but Rocket has almost always mentioned modding being opened up later in its life cycle; unfortunately.

Standalone in June what do you think?
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to law1977's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What you said pretty much sums it up. Patches. I think game companies rely too heavily on patches to the point where they figure they'll just patch a problem later instead of doing any testing.
