Would you quit if servers went expert?
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The reason why I mention this is the PVP is not the primary focus of the game. There is more to the game than just shooting people so for all that extra content, it's not fun being stuck in first person. The way I consider 3rd person and first person is this... 3rd person gives me that large FOV that is natural to our eyes, first person lets me focus my eyes on any given area within that FOV. So essentially if you took the two views but removed the character from the center of the screen in third person you would see what I mean. In the "third person" view would duplicate your FOV more naturally, while the "first person" view would simultate your eyes being able to focus on a certain area within narrower FOV. I don't need to turn my head to read something on this screen I merely move my eyes and focus on that part. Though as mentioned being able to see your character enables you to get an idea of where your character physically is within their environment. -

This is the way it should be and I know people disagree... but... there is no one to say "you can't do that" in a zombie apocalypse. Now say I walk up to someone and pop them for no reason while you observed from a distance. It is now your responsibility to decide if that was justified. Do you let me get away with it, or do you do something about it? I'm ALL for teamwork, I don't like the idea of people killing other people for no reason, but at the same time it's their choice and there should be no consequences except for how other people respond to it. -

You can test this with the current mod. Go run through a town, turn around with them running at you and try to hatchet them all to death without being killed. I'm really against the running "infected" period, but I think the indoors part is a good balance however redundant it may seem. I can just see myself running into a building hoping to fight off the zombies, and they'd be hot on my tail. Hardly enough time to push a table in front or grab a chair to throw at them. Would like to see them stumble and uncoordinated but then I can just imagine it being a run in circle till they fall over all rag-doll style. Games like Dead Island were good but also melee weapons were pretty much a one-hit kill and the game was designed around the melee function. Plus the zombies that required multiple hits were super slow. Just my .02, if the game moves in a direction that doesn't appeal to me then I won't play it. Pretty simple really. -

Again, you're taking a small portion of the game and making it the primary focus. Go on any MMO and play it for a few hours in only first person. I suggest this because the mod currently lacks the MMO aspects of which it will be recieving in the standalone. If you still find this fun, kudos for you. I would probably lose interest very quickly as first person is hardly a substitute for what we see. -

I like having the option of first/third person, the rest of the indicators could be disabled imo. This isn't a FPS, it's an MMO that has FPS. You have to look at the scope of the game and not just the shooting aspect. People want to change the entire outlook of the game just because there are instances where people camp on rooftops and you can't see them, that is truly your only argument. -

Expert/Mercenary/Hardcore Servers Are Empty
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to Kain Phalanx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Expert is an unpopular difficulty, obviously. I do agree with some of your points, and others I don't. It's super easy to switch from third/first person. Example: When I'm in third person I right click the mouse and I'm immediately in aim mode. First person only is as unrealistic as third person, but the non-expert servers allow a combination of both which I feel is effective. This game is more than a FPS, as I've mentioned countless times. Very few people (like yourself) want to be locked into first person 24/7. Waypoints turn maps into GPSs. The smart menu cursor makes the rangefinder, rangefinding techniques, and to some extent camoflouge obsolete. Agree with everything you say here, and for the most part veteran servers take care of this. The aiming cursor suggests it's the result of aiming down the sights, but then why can you also actually aim down the sights? It's hipfiring, it shouldn't be accurate. Agreed, it is hip firing. Though I do like the idea of cross hairs being there for those close encounters where accuracy is not a concern. I think if crosshairs are to be used that it should be REALLY inaccurate from distances of 5+ feet, where as it stands now it is pretty accurate. That's my take on it, in a nutshell. -

Ramping up PVE is not going to change this game for the good. What changes this game is permadeath. People get tired of having to start over, and over, and over. Whether killed by a zombie or a player. I fully support permadeath and feel it is essential punishment, but I can also see how it encourages people to give up their peaceful routine and take a more aggressive approach. Making zombies run indoors, is probably the worst thing I can see being implemented. No one will run indoors if that's the case, and they will just run with zombies trailing behind them... and if they make some zombies faster than players and able to hit on the run, then you'll die even more. I forsee a lot of dying in the future, and no amount of teamwork will prevent that. Especially when, as suggested, ammo is rare you won't be able to engage that large hoarde of zombies. You won't be able to escape them either. Someone can feel free to explain to me why this would be a good idea. -

All for this, but agree I hope it's not... every 100 rounds your gun will jam, and I hope it also introduces ways to maintain your firearm. (Gun cleaning kits) My Walther P99 can shoot anything I want, over and over and that thing won't jam because it's just a well designed firearm. I clean it after every session just because I like to do preventative maintenance though. That goes for my service weapons that never failed on me because they were properly maintained. -
Standalone Poll: First Person Only?
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to Trizzo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
We can debate this all day long, and it has been debated a thousand times over. Though there is no way a bullet can hit a 25 meter target, and a 300 meter target at the same point, but can completely miss a 150 meter target when aimed at the same point; if the bullet does not rise during its flight. -

Dreygar (DayZ) replied to Trizzo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I guess we would still be shooting balls with this assumption. I guess you're on team bullets don't rise too? There are MANY factors that affect the trajectory of a bullet, being more aerodymanic allows the round to travel faster and overcome some of the negative factors of its flight. So how does that NOT help? -

Dreygar (DayZ) replied to Trizzo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
We could go into back pressure, humidity, temperature, atmospheric pressure, powder, round type, barrel length, etc.... but the point is... The bullet will accelerate initially, reach its max velocity and then begin to slow down. -
Ouch.

You do realize what velocity is right? You're suggesting that a ball does not speed up during flight? I guess it's going 140mph as soon as you hit the ball... Maybe you should go back and study physics. ve·loc·i·ty [vuh-los-i-tee] Show IPA noun, plural ve·loc·i·ties. 1. rapidity of motion or operation; swiftness; speed: a high wind velocity. 2. Mechanics . the time rate of change of position of a body in a specified direction. 3. the rate of speed with which something happens; rapidity of action or reaction. What... a ... moron. -

Dreygar (DayZ) replied to Trizzo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You all fail to realize that bullets are designed to be aerodynamic and with increase speed creates lift. You all have a disregard to physics. It's why two points on your zeroing match (25m/300m) but anything inbetween is off. Ie, the same sight picture on a 150m target will hit ABOVE the aim point. Also, the M16 is designed to hit a 300m target. Barrel length, round choice, etc. The gun can be completely parallel to the ground and hit a 300m target, and when shooting at a 600m target there is only a slight change in the elevation knob. You don't have to raise the barrel 6 inches to hit a 600 m target... but I forgot, you all are experts. You DO have to make huge corrections when shooting things like an M203 because the mass/weight/velocity of the round. -

Wow, you and everyone who supports you and the others theories must be highschool drop outs. I swear the lack of intelligence in these forums is nothing but astounding; it doesn't surprise me. I guess golf balls don't gain velocity, rise, etc... because of friction as well? How fucking moronic you people are. -
Standalone Poll: First Person Only?

I noticed one small problem with what I said, my apologies. "You have to aim above" That, is incorrect. I should have proofread. You actually have to aim below, not above. So with my example. You zeroed your weapon at 300 meters, but you are trying to hit a target below 300 meters. We'll just go with a 150 meter target. In real life, the bullet will arc when it exits the muzzle. Not at first, but gradually. So if you aim at a 150 meter target in the head, you will miss. It will overshoot the target. So you have to aim down. As far as ballistics go, I'm glad Dallas posted such a simple "dummy" picture. Does that bullet not arc? If a bullet arcs, wouldn't that mean that the bullet rises, and drops? If you pointed that weapon parellel to the ground, would that change anything to the arc of the bullet? It wouldn't hit a "300m" target, as it suggests, but it would still rise, right? Not begin descending to the ground the moment it exits the muzzle. What that simple picture also demonstrates, and again my apologies, is what I was trying to explain (but used the wrong term of aiming above, and now aiming below) is that your zero might be zeroed for 300m, but you can't just aim at the same spot throughout the range and still hit your target. Where as in this game, I have no problem taking a weapon that is zeroed at 300m, and hitting anything below that, in the same locations. IE, I can aim center mass on a 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 target using the 300m zero and hit all of the targets. There are MANY properties of ballistics, one of the most important being VELOCITY. Bullets don't lose velocity as soon as they exit the muzzle (suggested by Trizzo the Shooter/hunter), they actually gain velocity initially (bullet rise) and then from then on gradually begin to lose velocity (bullet drop) ... Oh what do I know... Dallas plays Arma 2 so he is an expert in weapons, and Mr. Trizzo thinks bullets only arc in a downward direction unless the muzzle is pointed up in the air. -
If the bandit skins are still in the standalone I'm going to be pissed.

Let me know how those zombies and shooting people work in your outside world. This is the game people want, maybe it is based on fiction but it is surrounded by realism. This is the game we are getting. Who told you it has been worked out as beneficial? The "humanity" in this game is an experiment, to see if it would work without forcing anything on players and/or taking away from the core design of the game. I don't see it being achieveable without doing one or both of those things. -

24/7 Daylight Servers... UGH?
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to Jεricho's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This only works till about 2-6am server time. When the game is pitch black. No settings will help. I agree though, I enjoy playing in the dark. -
Have you ever played Dead Island? Same theory. I played it, I enjoyed it. I didn't replay it. MMOs are generally a blank canvas, there is endless things for you to do (not currently what we have in Day Z, but... it's coming hopefully) What we like about Day Z is... "This is Day Z. This is your story." There is no story, it's a sandbox and I am relieved there is no story. They are leaving that up to us, the players to create. It also enables them to focus on the game.

Can there be an easier way to refuel Helicopters?
Dreygar (DayZ) replied to doodleisbrutal's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Siphoning is something I'd like to see, but I think the current refueling method is a good balance. Don't run the thing till empty, and if you have multiple jerry cans use multiple people to refill it. Fills up fast that way. We could always complicate things and make fuel more elaborate. Some helicopters can fly on Diesel, some vehicles can only run Regular gasoline. Neither of which would be stored in the same tank. Wouldn't mind seeing a fuel truck being added to the game either way though. -
I agree with Mastabuds. You're getting away from the concept of the game. Have you played many MMOs Shane?
