Sup guys, I have a fairly good computer: Win 7 Intel i5 OCed to 4.0ghz Nvidia 670 8 gigs of ddr3 ram Asrock p55 pro motherboard and finally.. my 500gb 7200rpm SATA HDD with my OS and steam folder. I used this system to play shogun 2 with everything on ultra at great frames, along with BF3/skyrim/NS2. I've read DayZ/ArmA 2 are very HDD based. I recently installed DayZ Namalsk, as I wanted to play again after a break, but wanted a fresh map. My FPS is even worse than in vanilla DayZ. In woodlands, it's bad(30-ish), my fps in cities is terrible(20-ish and unplayable). My max is around 40 when staring at the ocan. As someone used to playing fps games at 60+ fps, this isn't acceptable and severly affects my will to play. I'm even considering buying a SSD drive just for this game if I have to. So.. any ideas? Edit: It makes almost no difference in my FPS if I have the game set to ultra high or ultra low. Except for object quality, which gives me about 5 extra frames if set to very low.

Sorry for the necro, but I just remembered this thread now. I actually bought a new motherboard and processor. Went with the ivy bridge i5 3570(replacing the old i5 750) and overclocked it from 3,8 ghz to 4,5.. It's officially made the game playable for me. Now I rarely drop below 50 fps. I'm still getting an SSD in a month or so, will be curious if it affects my fps in any way.

I'm getting tired of these smudgy model textures, but I don't feel like paying 20 bucks for nothing but better textures. Don't give me the "BAF/PMC have great storylines and lots of content" because I only play arma for dayz :) The military sim experience doesn't appeal to me. Do you think they'll lower the price anytime soon? Alternatively, they could add a "DayZ model texture pack" for 5 bucks.

I realise this, but it would be in the best interest of bohemia to lower the price of these DLC packs. They would sell way more copies if they were cheaper.

BAF stands for british armed forces. I think the camo skin is taken from there. If I understand how this works it works like this; If you have PMC, then all your survivor textures should be at full res (not the camo skin). When I bought combined ops on steam, neither DLC was included.

Are you saying all the models used by DayZ are included in BAF?

FFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU day 17 character kitted out with almost every fucking ninja item in the game. All weapons silenced, kicking ass. Was gonna mess with the graphics settings, it was a fatal decision. I don't mind losing to a good player or a mistake I made in game(outside the main menu) but this was extremely frustrating.

NO I don't think people who are good at hiding their emotions/intentions in real life should be punished in this manner in game. If you add any sort of bandit-detection, I think it should be up to the bandit to make some sort of mistake and be discovered. Maybe you could make it so that the bandit has to have his weapon raised in order for the heartbeat sound to kick in (still at very close range).

Posted this in my clan forum, thought it deserves a spot. So I have a day 11 character and this happened to me 10 minutes ago. I'm living the bandit lifestyle and tonight I decided to check out Stary Sobor and the military camp(hoping to see someone loot it). I had found a CZ550 earlier and 1 mag. I had a m4a1 in my backpack with plenty of rounds. I set up with overview over the military camp and had waited for about 10-15 minutes when I spotted 4 guys. Their tactics seemed military-esque, with 2 guys going in and 2 guys covering them. 1 covering the general area and 1 covering their back. I had camo clothing on and was right in front of a tree 700 meters away, pretty much invisible to them. My heart started beating faster immediately(the sign of a good pvp game) and I got ready to take out one of the 2 guys going in. As soon as one of them stopped I took the shot... Unfortunately I had set my sniper to 800 meters, miscalculating the distance with only my binoculars and no rangefinder. But I didn't know that yet, because I didn't see the bullet land. I immediately shot one of the lookouts and saw the bullet land behind him, so I set my scope to 700m and fired again. Before they could react he was bleeding and on the run(didn't get the headshot). I now only had 2 shots which I used in a desperate attempt in taking him out before our next fight(I was sure as hell going to follow them and finish what I started). However, I missed... I watch them run over the hill and I immediately move from cover to cover, mostly out of their sight in an all-or-nothing flanking attempt, hoping the group is busy patching up their teammate. I run to the north east and after arriving on the nearest hilltop with trees, I stop and scout my surroundings. They are nowhere to be seen. I'm afraid they might have me zeroed in and keep looking around in panic. Nothing... Finally I see the 2 "leaders" that went in to try and loot the camp. They're crouching about 300 meters away from me, searching for me. After seeing them, I quickly find the third and fourth guy relatively close to them. At this point, I know where they are they don't know where I am and there is a huge field between us. So I'm thinking to myself "what the fuck should I do?". Opening fire at this range with the m4a1 would be suicide, I knew one of them had a sniper. Before I can think of a plan, they start running across the field(Probably trying to flank me from the same side I had already flanked them). "Yes, YES!" is what went through my mind. Until I realised I wasn't able to get into a good position without exposing myself. So I crawled into the middle of the bushes and waited for them to pass through(to my original location). However, they never exited the treeline so I knew they had to be in the bushes. Sure enough, I see them crouching towards me at a range of about 30 meters... All 4 of them. Now I'm standing in front of them all with no cover at all. What I felt was a mixture between "FUCK" and "FUCK YES". I opened fire and went all John Rambo on them, immediately bringing down the first 2 guys and wounding one of the remaining 2 (I would like to thank my mom and dad for buying me first person shooters as a kid in preparation for this encounter). Now they started returning fire, I got hit but managed to relocate and bandage. They kept firing. I realised they were firing blindly into the woods. So I ran in a zig-zag pattern in their general direction once they stopped shooting. I jumped from outside the bushes and shot one of them in the face. The other one was nowhere to be seen. So I scoured the bushes and sure enough, I heard his breathing and killed him as he lay in a bush, hiding. I'm not sure whether they saw me in the first place or were just scouting this bush/treeline to be sure. What I do know is that it was the best dayz experience I've had :D I even made a simple picture to try and explain it better: http://i.imgur.com/Cnvxe.jpg Edit: As for the loot, I got an m24, NVG, range finder, silenced m4a1, silenced m9, satchel charges, grenades, you name it. This makes me want to upgrade my PC to be able to fraps and play with 60 fps at the same time :lol: If any of the guys I killed are reading this, I want to thank you for not logging out and making this a memorable experience.

I mostly play solo and get my enjoyment out of stalking survivors/other bandits. I guess I'd be an anti-bandit if bandit morphing was still in. I'm usually a pretty aggressive nowadays, killing anyone who has a big back pack/nice primary... However, when someone gives me a chance, I don't try to kill them. For example, a few days ago, I was in the general store at stary sobor in my endless quest for a fucking ghillie suit... I was busy looting when I see a head poke out of one of the back rooms. He could have shot me on the spot, but he didn't. That's why I didn't follow him after he left:angel: Kinda makes me feel bad that I would probably have shot him on the spot if we switched roles. And that's because I would rather not be caught dead because I hesitated. That guy at the store took a huge risk, but I think he was happy with his choice. Obviously he'd have been happier if he'd killed me and realized he had a +1 bandit kill count:D

I just think it's strange that I get 50+ FPS in one session and then maybe I drop to 20-30 in the next. I just log out when that happens, don't want to be at a disadvantage in pvp. i5@4ghz 8gigs of ram ATI Radeon 5850 Recently formated PC with all the latest drivers.

I've only played for 2 days but I've found wood in barns, deer stands and supermarkets. Matches in supermarkets and some houses. Knives I've only seen in supermarkets.

Yeah, to increase your chances of survival you can use it on a broken TV in some houses.
