    MERGED: Night time, darkness, gamma

I don't mean to be rude "Unkown Killa", but I did use my flares. All 10 of them. I walked around, dropping flares so that I could make some kind of understanding of my location. When one went out, I'd drop another. Once all 10 are used, what's the objective? I'm not asking for the removal of nights - I'm asking for the nights to be a continuation of the gameplay that occurs during the day time. As it stands, at night, players log off. Not because they want to stop playing, but because it's not fun to play. If we're to use the 10 starting flares sparingly - as is obviously the case - then we're spending large portions of time in the unplayable darkness. If you can't see, how do you play?
  2. Just some changes to the Night time lighting condition. I don't mean making night a "dark blue" version of day, but toning down the absolute black. It's just not very fun.

I played for the first time this evening, and it was obviously night time. Not being kitted out, the game was frankly and simply not fun at all. If it wasn't for the immensely interesting stories I've seen coming out of this mod, I'd have uninstalled it right then and there. I understand I'm new to this, but I represent what a new player would experience if this was the only time they could play. Swap the server times around, so that people currently playing in the Day have to endure the basically unplayable nature of the current Night. I suspect they'll change their tune fairly quickly.

    [Suggestion] Night/Day Cycle

I'm glad I'm not the only person who has an issue with this. I jumped into Day Z for the first time ever this evening. And, obviously, it was pitch black. From a new player's perspective: I literally thought something was wrong with my game at first, until I kept moving the mouse around and caught some of the movement of what I eventually discovered to be the ocean. So, I could see was a little speck of white which I presumed was glittering water. And what followed was probably the least compelling experience I've had in a long time. I could hear the snarl of zombies. Eventually an hour glass symbol appeared on my screen. According to the chat, this meant that I had died - I had been attacked by Zombies I couldn't see at all and was killed. Next time, I decided to use my flares. I ran out of them pretty quickly, and was eventually killed by zombies I couldn't see or avoid. If you were kitted out, sure - then it's becomes fun and tense. But, I wasn't. It was my first time playing - ever - and I was greeted with literally a blank screen before being told I had failed. I'm all for the "No Hand Holding" aspects - I found it nice that I was dropped in and told to survive. But, as a game, this lacked any kind of fun. So, for a first time player, the "Dark Night" was basically the most off-putting introduction I've ever encountered in a video game. I totally understand the point the mechanic: simulate the whole survival experience. However, the solution most readily adopted in this real world situation would be to hold up in a building and wait out the night. Which means: 1. Sit silently still in a building for 12 gameplay hours. 2. Log off and wait for day. I'd recommend altering the day night cycle to be within the reasonable play session - 2 hours for the complete cycle. This means a player _CAN_ wait out the night. I'll try again in the day time. I know it'll be much, much better.
