    RCON dayz SA

Ok, I understand your feeling. However, you are a part of a public hive. This means what you do on your own server can be carried over to another server. In this type of game environment that is unfair. Now, you may very well, just want to play on your own server and not go collect loot to go kill on another server, but if they allow a few to do this, then those that want to exploit this, will exploit this. When private servers are available at later date, you will most certainly be able to lock your server and do whatever you like to it. Because on a private server, your character and gear will not be transferable to the public servers. You will be on your own private, or private shared hive. They are not cheap, and the hosting companies and the DayZ team are hosting their own servers, that is where the initial list of servers came from. That is more than likely how many people figured out who was hosting servers, they checked servers and saw all the hosts listed, because these hosts were already hosting servers for the first players to play on. This goes to everyone who is disenfranchised with hosting a DayZ server. These are all a part of a public hive, so having special rules on one server and not on another is unfair. It's not "Rocket keeping a tight grip". It's a matter of the play experience and fairness being equal across servers. Otherwise, you would have a clan rent a server, lock it, gear out to max with no risk at all, so very quickly. Then jump over to a public server with people fighting over loot and watching their back, and just go in and kill everything that moves, and if they died, go back to their server and regear. This is unfair, and should NOT be allowed. You WILL be able to have FULL control over you server, WHEN the private servers are available. Official Public DayZ servers have ALWAYS been this way. If you want to see a group with a tight grip on what you can do with your own server, go check out Origins. Those copy cats won't let people have access to anything, and haven't for a long time, and they don't even have a public hive, each server has it's own hive, yet you still aren't allowed to set up your own server how you would like. Please, if you do not like not being able to change things on your server or lock it, stop renting a server and wait until private hives are available. Because right now you are going to be throwing your money away. I don't mean this to be rude, I'm really just trying to explain because it seems some people don't understand why servers are the way they are, and there is a valid reason.

    Server Locking

DO NOT LOCK YOUR SERVER!! If you are a customer of Vilayer, they are atleast warning their customers. Three times caught with a locked server and your server is deleted. Don't try to lock it or password it, you will only be digging your own private server grave right now. Everything is public, until private is available just deal with it, or wait to rent.

    DayZ SA Create Server

Those are the only 3 hosts currently available. This isn't your standard hosting solution requirements so new hosts are a ways off and private hosting is probably even farther off. I wouldn't expect to be able to have your own private server hosted on your own box until we are well into the beta.

    DayZ Standalone Server Hosting

As far as the players requesting information on what is and is not allowed currently. There currently are not any written rules specifying what can and cannot be done. However, there isn't much that can be done as an admin in the current state of the alpha. Admins can kick players. There are no GUID's since BE is not running on servers, so banning doesn't work. Admins can restart the servers as they see fit, and you should know, many servers crash repeatedly, it is not always admins restarting them. Admins can kick as they see fit, although there is no way to know who is who. There are no tags, and there are no death messages, there are no logs. Atleast, these features are not available to admins currently. So, if you are seeing an admin kicking people, they are likely attempting to empty their server, or make room for a friend, and without rules in place, they can do this. HOWEVER, just like the mod, they can blacklist the official server status, which would inturn make your server unplayable as you would have no player data storage available. I am 100% certain that rules and blacklisting are something that will be coming. Currently, I recommend staying off servers where you suspect admin abuse. Because if admins are using the kick feature, they are doing so blindly. All servers are currently official, and until the hive system gets worked out completely I would assume the official status will stay. Admins cannot password servers currently. They can lock them, but the lock is only in place until restart. If you see a server being locked and kicking players, I highly recommend writing down the IP, and when server reporting comes available, I would then report them. Until then, there are larger problems than the few abusive server admins. The abusive server admins won't survive long. If you want a quality server to play on, I recommend our server. I am the eternal all powerful overseer on our server, and we have a website to report our admins and report problems or bans. I am not "attached" to our admins, so I will remove their admin status if they are abusive and take corrective action if they have banned a player without proper reason. And currently the only proper reason would be cheating. I will put the info for our server in my signature.

    DayZ Standalone Server Hosting

To the hosting company... Server hosting will be opened up to other hosts at a later date. Inquiring on the forums is a less than ideal way to request being able to provide this service. There is alot more involved in hosting the DayZ SA than just popping files on a server and turning it on. Even if you somehow got your hands on the server files, you will not be able to access the player data storage hive, therefore you would have to create your own, and it would not be authorized. So, to answer, it is currently not possible or authorized to create servers outside the authorized server hosts. Regardless of your status as a commercial entity or private person, you do not have access, and probably won't for some time. There are bigger fish to fry than adding more hosting providers. And it will be a very long time until private hosting is available with private hives. Private dedicated/public dedicated/commercial or private all are unavailable. Currently all hosts are providing virtual private servers, as the cost to run dedicated is not within most renters means. It will however be available later on. The two biggest factors stopping you are server files, and hive access. Nothing is authorized outside of what is currently available. When other means come available, everyone will be informed. Hope this helps clear things up.

Can I run dayZ standalone ?

You can run the game just fine. If you are experiencing low fps, try lowering your shadows setting and disabling post-process effects. You shouldn't need to do that though. One other thing to do, is close background programs that might be running and sucking up system resources.

    every server is dark

Server time is set by the server owners. Since most servers are not owned by individuals or communities, most are set at the same default. Best chance to find daylight servers is to search for servers that have a "custom" name rather than just the host name. They are not all this way, but it is a fact that the time is set by the server admin. Just browse and you should find one, if you need help finding one message me.
  8. It is good that you are not purchasing the game right now. As you would more than likely not understand what has actually been developed over the last year. Alot of what you are "seeing" is pulled from the mod, what you aren't seeing is all the work that has been put into place behind what you are seeing. Think of it like this, you have an old crappy car... You take the body off that car and put it on a brand new frame/engine and transmission. Well, from the outside it looks the exact same. But you're not looking at the engine, your looking at the body. The cosmetics are easy to fix and change, the engine/frame/transmission are not. So, the big difference is what the SA can become, and what the Mod could be become. The SA can go to the stars, while the Mod can only reach the top floor of a 5 story building. So you'll see much faster changes and bug fixes over the next year of development. At the end of development, the game will stand head and shoulders above the Mod "cosmetically", because it already stands head and shoulders above the mod in the engine. If you are iffy, don't buy it yet. You will like what you see when it is finished though. Everything will be polished up and nice and pretty like any other *FINISHED* game. Do remember, this is not even in the beta, this is the alpha, You would have probably not liked any games alpha that you played that had a predecessor, cause you would think it was the same game. It's not till it's finished that you will be able to truly see the massive differences. As a note to the fellow mentioning this being developed by a small team versus a large team that truly makes no difference. They had a core already developed, while most games start at the drawing board and story development requiring more people. Also, they aren't all that slow. Most games developed by large companies are in the works for several years, not a year, the exception being sequels. The difference is, rocket kept people in the loop and released an alpha. Most big time game companies DO NOT release alpha's, especially not flat out publicly. If you were left with the mod and no one ever spoke of a standalone version, and this just popped up on steam, you wouldn't be complaining about development time. It's only because Rocket told you about it, and kept you in the loop that you feel like it took too long. Did you know that Duke Nukem Forever was in development for 10 years? Not the best example, but no one felt like they were waiting on it because no one was saying they were going to be releasing an alpha and that it was coming. Don't be upset that Rocket told you he would make a game and release and alpha and he did, just not in the time frame you expected.

    Suggestions - development

I suggest, increasing the duration that your character can last without food and water while drastically increasing zombie difficulty. To me, this would make it much harder to loot, but make the loot you had much more valuable. This would also in turn make the mad dash from the coast to the city to speed loot, much more unfeasible. In conjunction, to counteract the likelihood of it being more bandit oriented on the coast with people slowly creeping through cities, zombies should change targets to anyone who is shooting. So if a zombie is chasing you and someone shoots at you, the zombie should then chase them and ignore you unless you take a shot. I think overall zombies should be extremely attracted to gunshots, to the extent that if you shoot near a city, all the zombies in the city should head your direction. Making bandit killing sprees happen in the woods, not outside schools and firestations. I think shooting in/near a city or military base should be a near death sentence, unless you have a lot of ammo, or a lot of friends. Sorry, I know that's kind of two suggestions, but they go hand in hand. If you make the loot harder to get and the survival without loot easier, it makes the bandit problem worse. Atleast imo.

    RCON dayz SA

RCon tools outside of the game do not currently work. This is because those operated with the use of battleye, which as you may have noticed is not currently in DayZ SA. You can however, kick people if you login as Admin in game. For those that have servers, when you are in-game, type "#login rconpassword" without the quotes and with your rcon password in the place of rconpassword, so in game, open your chat bar and type #login mypassword Then if you open your player list by pushing "P" you can then click a player and use the kick button in game. You will also notice that when pushing "." to change channels, you now have access to a "Global" chat channel, where you can type a message to all players on your server. DO BE WARNED! You can be blacklisted. Currently when you purchase your server, you are auto-whitelisted. This means you have access to the public hive. If you do not treat the community fairly, the DayZ team can and more than likely will revoke your whitelist privilege. This means anything you do on your server, no longer would carry over to any other server, and may not even carry over to a new session of play on your own server. You could be in essence completely blocked from the central hive of player data storage. Please DO NOT think that the DayZ team needs your server so you can do as you please. Everyone should have noticed the "Provisioning" time period they had to wait to have their server, even though there were over 100 servers already available. I would guess these were servers provided in partnership between the server providers (looking to earn money off those wanting to rent by advertising their names) and the DayZ team (looking to have servers for players to play on) Once the game is completed then you will probably have access to create a server exactly how you see fit, private hive, extra vehicles, custom loot and maps, and mods ta'boot. Until then and after then, in the world of public hives, you are literally under the control of the development teams wishes on what they want the experience to be like across all servers. And it should be this way, people shouldn't have access to special rules on one server, and be able to carry their character over to another server with a different set of rules. When private hives are available, then you will be able to set all your own rules. Also the reason the server cost is so high, is in part due to the game being in alpha and not being fully optomized, and in part due to the coming requirements as player pool and zombie/loot numbers all increase. You are paying for good hardware on a good connection. Ok, so, we're all probably paying a little bit more than needed because anyone will squeeze a ripe fruit for more juice, but this isn't the DayZ Development teams fault, and if you are paying so you can have your "own" server, then you should really honestly wait until you can have your "own" server for real. Our server is established as a gaming community and we use the contributions and advertisements off our website to help pay for our server, so it's not "Our" server, it's the communities server. We just administrate it, and are looking for qualified admins to bring on board as the game develops and requires an admins presence.

    Server Locking

While this is currently annoying, this will change. There will be consequences for doing this repeatedly eventually. However until the combat logging system is implemented, yes this is being exploited. But later in development, continually swapping servers will increase the time your player is "in the world" before you login and after you logout. Thereby making server hoping turn into rolling the dice with worse and worse odds. Atleast server hoping while in a certain time frame. Naturally if you are looting a military base and logout, and login to a new server the next day there shouldn't be a consequence because that's the same as logging back into the same server you were on. Loot may or may not be there at that point.

Are there any noob friendly servers?

Run in tree lines, stay out of the open find a bush near somewhere you want to loot, and take 5 minutes and scope the area. Look for zombies chasing people, and look for people. The coast is where you start, while it seems like a terrible place, to be honest your best bet is to run in full tilt turbo, find some a few drinks and food items and get out and head deeper into the mainland. While you run a large risk of being killed, at least you were killed with nothing. And can try again after respawn. I would recommend NOT returning to the coast once you have found some stuff to survive. Even the people with nothing will try to kill you. The reason bandits sit on the coast is not just because it's easy kills, it's because if they die, they can just re-loot the coast and resume killing. Most bandits lives are short lived that hunt on the coast because that's where everyone goes to fight. The dangerous bandits are farther in, they are looking to stalk you and loot you because you probably have stuff you brought from the coast. Overall, my best advice is, loot the coast fast, and get out. Then you might have a chance to survive for a while, or a really long time. It all depends and we all die at some point. Another veteran junkie piece of advice, don't get attached to your loot. The more you die and the better you get at learning to loot fast and get out, the more likely you are to survive longer. It's a rough start, but eventually you'll get it. If you die, don't be scared, just run around like a mad man and find what you need, then play it safe and venture into the mainland. Otherwise you'll waste alot of time being careful when you have nothing to lose, and get killed and lose interest. The best time to play crazy is when you have nothing to lose.

    Loot spawns

Another thing I thought I should mention if you weren't aware. Eating certain food items that are supposed to be cooked or eaten with liquid, will cause you to get thirsty. Such as, eating dried rice, without cooking it. This will feed you and sate your hunger, but will increase your thirst. Same goes for cereal, without powdered milk and water. You can make "meals" that will sate thirst and hunger far better than a bunch of little items. So cereal with milk, will naturally sate your hunger and thirst and be usable more than once. Think about food and drink in DayZ the way you would in real life. If you ate a bunch of dry crackers you would probably need to drink something with it or have an incredibly dry mouth. Don't think about it to the extreme though, we're not getting into sodium content and caffeine causing thirst. Just think of it all in a plain no brainer way. I haven't checked, but I would assume good fruit does the same thing, since it is naturally juicy, it probably sates hunger and a little thirst, but don't quote me on that.

    Loot spawns

Loot is meant to only "spawn" at restart. If they change it, then it is because it is changed, however I don't see them doing that because part of the server side changes was specifically oriented to do this. I would gander a guess to say loot spawning during play could open the window to possible exploitation, same with zombie spawning during gameplay. I do believe however that zombies will eventually respawn to a certain extent as I've heard discussed over the development of DayZ. (Edit: As far as exploiting, I mean, loot spawning/zombie spawning to see if someone is in the area. The current system you have no idea if someone is in a town, just because you can see loot there from afar or see zombies walking around. The hacker term of spawning should be negligent in the standalone. Hacks will/have come out, but they are nothing like what you saw in the mod. Much more of just an annoyance than anything, but not a blatant out right wtf moment. In fact, you probably wouldn't even be able to tell if someone is cheating because the cheats that can operate on the current system cannot do what they used to do. I do not personally cheat, and never have, however as an admin, I do keep up to date with what is available so I can combat it as best as possible) To be honest, I think the best solution to this would be to increase the time you can go without food/water and drastically increase zombie difficulty. This way people spend more time searching for loot, not because it's un-findable, but because it's incredibly difficult to get to. I believe this would also discourage the KoS fellows if running around at full tilt caused the zombie apocalypse to come crashing down on you, atleast is large cities or military areas. Right now, the zombies are very easy to ignore, however this will change in many ways with the development of the game. In any case, if you are having a lot of trouble finding survival items, I would recommend changing to a server with more frequent restarts. Or look in very large cities for loot. The outlying towns and homesteads do have loot, but are more spread out, which causes you to use more food and water just to search, so they should be used as a go between as you travel. If you need to stock up, the best place is the large cities. Our server restarts every 4 hours right now so everyone should be able to find a good amount of loot pretty regularly. US Daylight Server

Hello, our server is currently setup to be 75% Daylight. Sometimes however the restarting does bug out and change the server back to nighttime, but we are trying to make the server stay on track so it is mostly day. We are scheduled to restart every 4 hours with the last hour being nighttime so we still get the day/night cycle effect. Our server is listed under "NoobAnon.com Gaming" and we strive to bring the best server we can to the community. We will be looking for server moderators to help ensure the server stays available, and stays on track with the schedule of restarts. If you would interested, please inquire on our forums on our website, www.NoobAnon.com Our server is not just RP, and not just PvP. We do not specify what is and is not allowed and have no plan to do so. We encourage not shooting on sight and being helpful, however we all know everyone is going to do what they want to do. We also have a 75 person teamspeak available to compliment our server for easier teamwork. The details are on our website aswell. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask and I will reply as soon as I can.

    US Daylight Server

There is no command for it. This is a feature provided by the server host. To my knowledge, currently DayZ is only allowed to either run based on the actual server time, or start at a specified time at each restart. So you can have either a true working 24 hour schedule, that stays constant across restarts Or You can set a specific time, like 12PM, for the Game Server to start at each restart. So, in the former example, If it's 1AM at server restart it will be 1AM after the server restart. In the latter example, if it's 1AM at server restart, and the "time" is set to 12PM, it will be 12PM after the server restart. Hopefully that makes sense Either way these are options, that are setup in your TCAdmin Panel provided by your server host. If you don't see an option for time setting, you should ask your host how to set it up, or ask them if they provide it at all. Other than that, there is currently no way you can do it without the use of the TCAdmin panel because the server files are not accessible.

    Server Locking

I would like to notify the DayZ team that servers can be locked in a certain fashion. I would like this to be removed on the current public level. Any old time admins will know how to achieve this. Please send me a message if you need more explanation. And if you run a server yourself and would like to password it please do not message me as I will not respond to non DayZ Team members.

    Daylight server/s

Yes we would like this aswell. If/when this feature comes available our server will be set to be 1 Hour Behind CST. But currently, we cannot do this.

    Daylight server/s

Our server should be daylight depending on when you log into it. The first 2 hours after restart are full day, then it starts getting dark and the last hour is night. We try to restart every 4 hours, but sometimes the restarts happen well before that due to server crashing so it is currently nearly always day. I made a post to describe our server more. You can find us either by our filtering for our name "Noobanon.com Gaming", or by visiting our website and picking up our direct IP @ www.NoobAnon.com Hopefully we'll see you there, the server does seem to fill quickly so please be patient. We are also looking for qualified server moderators as this game is developed.

    US Daylight Server

Well, the at restart it is daylight for the first 2 hours, then it starts getting dark, and the last hour is night. As a side note, in-game voice is currently disabled since some people's voice chat is going global, and I think most would agree listening to someone else eat and watch tv while they play is quite annoying. We will re-enable from time to time to see if this bug has been squashed or until we hear from the devs that it has been fixed. Until then we have a teamspeak for people to be able to talk to their friends.
