Ideas for creating a more immersive experience (on the standalone)
Honest Bill replied to hiush's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't particularly like the gun jamming idea, but in principle i think your point is good. One simple thing which you already alluded to was cooking.. I mean it might not be a bad idea if you had lots of ingredients which you could combine which might give you different benefits, like more health restored or something like that.. That way, your actual knowledge of cooking and what ingredients combine to make what are what determines your skill at cooking. Maybe if we had a notepad like many people have suggested, we could write down the recipes for others. You could apply the same basic principles to medicines, or perhaps even building materials, chemical agents.. Basically just lots of things which can be combined which the players have to figure out for themselves.. That allows for very real and tangible skills and transferable knowledge within the game.. -
I know it's a bit cliché, but how about one of the random item drops is one of those eerie music boxes, which players could turn on and leave somewhere? Players could use it to freak others out while they're stalking them.
-
Well you would think that if people are that scared of their character getting killed, they could just not play the game.. That is effectively what they're doing. Nevertheless i'm sure it's not an intended 'feature' and will likely be patched.
-
I saw a demo for the ARMA3 engine, which showed a different stance, where the player can be crouched and yet still pop his head up and down to peer over objects and get back in cover.. It looked pretty nice, coupled with the lean feature it could work well.
-
But what sense does third person emulate? outer body experiences?
-
Haha.. oh dear, while sneaking up behind a sniper... Imagine his surprise when he turns around.... Ok.. I think i have contributed far too much to this.
-
While i agree with the OP about the merits of first person.. I really don't mind it being a server option. If some people want to use it and they're happy for their enemies to be able to use it, i don't see why they should be restricted.
-
That alone should be minus 1,000,000 humanity haha
-
And what would you suggest happens when the meter runs out?
-
I think it would take up too much memory to have persistent bodies like that.. Maybe someone with more technical knowledge can chime in on that.. Perhaps just some basic looking skulls might give a bit of a 'stay out' vibe though haha
-
Since the 'vendor' will be a real player, there is no reason you can't do this anyway.. He just decides what he accepts as a token, et voila... You will obviously lose them when you die though, that is what adds to the purpose of playing.. You're trying to survive, and you're actually trying more than other games because that character only gets one shot.. No way you should keep your things.
-
I think it would only be necessary for them to implement some kind of message board system or communications system.. If they did that, there's no reason why you couldn't just do what you're suggesting anyway.. I don't think there's any need for a 'new game mode'
-
Currency is just a symbol by which everybody agrees to have a certain value.. Again, this is something you can do yourself.. The most logical currency is this case, i would suggest, is cans of beans (for obvious reasons).. Therefore if you want to make a currency, you need to get enough players that will accept the value you want to attribute to beans

If you want a 'no fire zone' then just like in real life you have to make that rule and have other people stick by it. If there were a way to implement player created signs or banners etc, then you could establish a 'no fire zone' as long as you had a group large enough to enforce it and put people off breaking the rules.

I'm sure the developers would agree, that if you think the game should include a survival shop, then you must simply run your own survival shop. As for military bases. The game will very likely include them, but there won't be any NPCs in them.. So again, if you want military to be in the military bases, you will have to form your own military.
-
I don't really see the point in adding it.. Not only is it unfeasible that you would see your killer's position after your death, but it doesn't really add anything to the game either, apart from the ability to tell your friends, posthumously, where they should hunt your killer. Which shouldn't be allowed. You allowed yourself to be out-maneuvered. You would spoil much of the tactical element of the game.

UPDATED DAILY: I'm Issuing a Warning to Any Snipers
Honest Bill replied to ZombieSpecialist's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Good to see someone has a pair of e-balls, and instead of whinging about PKers is actually going to go out and hunt them.. This is as essential a part of the game as banditry.. They both need each other to make the game more fun for each other.. People need to think about it more objectively and stop crying about it.. Soon there will be whole groups of 'heroes' who will roam around looking for bandits and helping survivors. I don't know if you think you are ruining the sniper's day, but i don't think that's really the way to look at it. You are both giving each other a better experience.. You have developed your own mission, driven by your own goals and motivations, and have something fun to do. Plus his game time will be much more fun too, because he will have the constant threat of vigilante groups hunting him through the countryside.. This kind of player driven social equilibrium and inter-dependency are, i believe, very much what this game is about -
Also, a classic horror film staple, when everything is dark, there is a massive flash of lightning which, just for a second, illuminates everything. Imagine if you were in a dark forest and when a flash of lightning occurred, you saw someone standing there with a hatchet..

While i agree that giving players the tools is a better route to go down.. I hope you realise that, if they were to implement some kind of paint can or anything like that, there would be a remarkable amount of penises, and racist slurs scrawled everywhere. I'm not saying that would particularly bother me if it was not too intrusive, i'm just pointing out that it would happen But you would also get a lot of genuinely funny stuff too.. As for the points system, well you just encourage people to boost their numbers by whatever boring means they can devise to do so.. Pretty soon, all the genuine players know they have absolutely no chance of ever getting anywhere on the leaderboards without resorting to ridiculous playstyles.. Therefore i don't believe playstyles would be positively influenced by such a thing If they wish to reduce 'KOS' they will need to do a few things together which in combination will make it less desirable to do so. Reducing ammo availability would go some way to helping, as a sniper might not want to waste his last two bullets to kill a player who is a mile away and isn't even aware of his presence.. Maybe he would prefer to save them for when he really needs them, for example, when he is forced to come out of hiding to try to scavenge some more bullets. Adding more possibilities for gameplay will also help, as is suggested in the OP. Players will spend less time killing people if they are given alternative ways to instigate conflict, drama, and action.

Ultimate way to add importance and gravity to the survival aspect

I think it should also come with a slathering, infected man in a cage, and then when you die, the cage opens.. -
Social Observation: Playing DayZ to not play DayZ
Honest Bill replied to ACow's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No i can definitely see where you're coming from.. Allthe angles have to be considered first, and it's important not to make assumptions and ensure thorough analyses.. Theories are made to be shot down haha. Fortunatley for us, the DAYZ devs seem to appreciate that and i feel they are looking at the game from a similar stand point.. That's why i'm pretty excited for the standalone. -
It's because it's only an alpha and there isn't a great deal to do yet. So people are forced in to creating their own conflicts.. Some of them just lack imagination..
