Personally, I'd say DayZ has become popular because of the idea and the promise of agile development. The idea is getting more and more competition and isn't new enough anymore to hype over. Agile development is simply not used anymore, Minecraft updated often and Notch communicated a lot. Pretty sure he didn't go to all the conventions just after releasing his pre-alpha of Minecraft. I understand you'd like to see DayZ in some form on all platforms available, but without a game to promote you have nothing. Modding has been around for years in many forms, and just because this mod touches a genre people want to play for about 2-3 years now has this become popular. Long story short: Develop the mod/game -> promote it -> distribute to multiple platforms -> infinite fame and riches.

Do different launchers have different probabilities of getting stuck on loading screen?
Turr replied to Brutal-Hunter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Pretty sure it's the game or server that causes long loading times, not the launcher. -
OMGWTFBBQ!!11!!1 DOGS AT GAMESCOM!! On a serious note, why are you guys running a version of the alpha that is "not ready for release" at an event? Just to generate hype? Also, what's up with 1.7.2.5? It's still not SixLauncher-approved but not only is almost every server running it, there are no updates at all about why it isn't released or new fixes for artifacts.

They only had 3x4 pc's lined up, to show Carrier Command(Not sure), ArmA3 and DayZ. No further info whatsoever. EDIT: You were talking about the business area, never mind then. Rocket has given at least 2 interviews, that's all I know.

I'm lazy. I know I can manually install, I've done it a couple times before installing SixLauncher. The reason that it's not SixLauncher-approved says to me that the patch has not done what it was supposed to do.
-
Not sure you are replying to me, but that's not what I meant. I simply don't understand why they are running 1.7.3 on gamescom when we have no news at all, not even regarding patch 1.7.2.5 which was released a week ago.
-
I'm kinda confused as to why there is no news about development after the still-not-rocket-approved patch 1.7.2.5 was supposed to fix artifacts. Basically this: OMG WHY YOU NO WORK HARDER!? :)

Looking at the youtube videos, not much.

Can people PLEASE read the goddamn reddit? Rocket's AMA cleared a whole lot of questions, including the mod support.. He said they will probably allow community-made or custom-made maps in the standalone eventually and maybe in the mod too. Also, the engine for the standalone is a heavily modified version of BIS' latest engine, the one for ArmA3. But as far as I know, they will be tweaking it down to let people with mid-range pc's run it on normal.

Where is the rage about the RPG-elements ?
Turr replied to SirSlayer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hmm, liked the idea of DayZ being unique in the way that it's completly free-roam.. What's next? The need to have mechanic skills to fix a car? Oh, here's the rage: "omg y no survlv pvp!?!?! i wana shoot dem peeps not learn talent trees and skillzz!!" -

Don't see any problem with this at all, what the hell is wrong with you people? Some people prefer console gaming, it has nothing to do with what a game will become after it has been ported. We should actually be happy by the way, nowadays a lot of games are made for consoles first and then PC gamers get a crappy last-minute port that ruins the experience. In this case, he said it will be a port after it has become a good game, just like minecraft. Also, there is no reason at all to say that this announcement is somehow too soon. EDIT: See the answer to my first and rhetorical question in my sig :D

The Minecraft model works something like this: you pay a heavily discounted price for alpha, for example €7,- , and the price increases when it gets closer to version 1 of the game. By doing this they'll have some money while still developing the game and early buyers will have the game for a discounted price. Rocket said the final price will probably be around 15/20$ , just like minecraft.

thinking of buying a gaming pc and need advice
Turr replied to resistence1993's topic in Technology/Programming
When building your own pc and going for mid/high-end stuff it will probably be around €700-€1000 , just do a little research and look up some benchmarks on google for a better "bang-for-buck" combo. -
What don't you understand? You were asking about being spawned on the beach, and I said that it was only occurring to me for the past 2 hours. But apparently it happens when you close ArmA while being stuck in "loading" and join an other server.

What happens to us after the stand alone version is out?
Turr replied to stealth2668's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Doesn't ANYBODY know what alpha and beta means!? Yes, we ARE testers, that's the whole point of releasing alpha and beta versions of games, to TEST it! -
Pretty sure hackers can kill with a simple script, without being around you or even shooting. What I don't understand is that you were getting hacked and you return to that same server a couple minutes later..
-
You can lose new equipment when dc'ing too fast, and the beach-spawning is only as of 2 hours ago..
-
Maybe I'm just lazy but I don't want to read through the 20 pages that were added since a couple hours ago.. Can't there be a locked announcement thread where we can read the latest news? All these comments could be reduced to 2 pages if you take out all the whining.

What if I told you that there are 2 kinds of difficulty?
Turr replied to bloodriot's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Fair enough, but you keep going on about the inventory ;) These issues are engine-based problems, which can't be simply fixed with a mod. Unless rocket gets access to the ArmA2 engine they will be very hard to fix. It's like modding a car, you can make it all fancy-looking with your pink-white colorway, spoiler and what-not, but diving under the hood and actually opening up the car engine to fix the way it works is a whole other level. And unlike a car engine, a game engine is compressed and compiled and is therefore harder to access. -
Hackers, and the state of the standalone game?
Turr replied to KetchupOnTheDog's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Really? Please tell me more about your advanced computer and programming knowledge. Could people that have no clue about programming, engines and hacking please refrain from talking about it? Your OP states that you are worried about hackers in an other game, DayZmod is NOT the DayZgame. -
What if I told you that there are 2 kinds of difficulty?
Turr replied to bloodriot's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The only reason that the inventory is "bugged/broken/etc" is because it was never intended to be used for an arcade-like zombie mod. It is a realistic game, so you shouldn't be able to run as fast as you can while checking your bag and taking out that SAW you need. The interface is hard to get used to, but after a while it isn't the biggest problem in the game, it was never even intended to make a game where you can run-and-gun your way through. -
Any other game that you can compare this with? I haven't seen a percentage of registered/online players this high in any game I've played, 16% is quite a lot to be honest. WoW, LoL and HoN have no where near this amount of registered/online players. I'd even say that it's popular, despite the fact that it's in buggy alpha stage. There might be a decline, but I blame the fact that there has been a silence around the mod for a couple of days, and it will rise again.
