Maybe we could put retractable blades on our wrists and become like I don't know...assassins maybe? And we could scale buildings and trees with wall climbing machetes...or do we need a separate pair of tree climbing machetes?
-
Valid point, one thing that would have to be done away with is survivors being able to run endlessly or else it does indeed become too easy. Well, regardless that has to be done away with. I also don't think they should have the same blood mechanic. I just see too many tactics that lean towards making it easier and none that do anything for difficulty.
-
I'm not trying to be an asshole, even though my previous post probably makes it sound that way. However, a suggestion that would basically kill much of the difficulty in the game belongs in the graveyard. Reference my third point for the reason.
-
Well first off, stop using the word realistic as Day-Z is meant to be authentic. Authentic to a certain zombie genre. Second, being that zombies themselves are not real, you can tweak the virus as you wish to answer any and all of your disputes. As mentioned, something that mutates the body to clot much quicker than a normal human. Third, there's a point when you can't sacrifice what makes complete sense in our world for what makes a game fun and challenging. Don't suggest something to be clever, suggest something for Day-Z that belongs in a zombie simulator and also IMPROVES it. Fourth...Graveyard!

What the Standalone needs - atmosphere (Namalsk)
Lights Out replied to indian_crowe (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree with everything that has been said. Ambient noises do set the mood but you must be careful, ambient noise that don't hold true to the game will become annoying, mundane and out of place quickly. Nature noises will work. Wind, animals (if they're actually animals in the area; animals can also make footsteps as they move around/you startle them adding to quick scares in the woods), zombies (if they're are actually zombies in the area), running water if they're streams/rivers, bird chirping, thunder, crickets at night, etc. etc. When adding ambient noise such as screaming, you can mess it up VERY quick, actually probably mess it up immediately. We're going to get use to the sound. After hearing screams after a while and knowing it's the same thing, it's going to become annoying as well as break immersion. Even if it's a different scream, when you hear it, it only makes sense you should be able to track down the source of the sound. This is why that type of ambiance won't work. Maybe you can almost force a player scream when they are being attacked and eaten alive but that is as far as it can go and still make sense. This game isn't exactly a horror game per say so you don't need all this horror-esque sounds. The horror aspect of this game comes more from the eerie silence. That fear stems from the tension of never feeling safe whether it be from zombies, players, not knowing if you're alone, unsure if you'll make it through the day etc. etc. The silence is what is going to make you paranoid. -
The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
Lights Out replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
And please get rid of the whole, eat food and regenerate all your health thing. Blood should regenerate at a slow constant rate like in real life. Staying nourished, hydrated, and healthy should just make blood regenerate SLIGHTY faster (but still slow). To explain it better with a bit of mathematical reasoning. Blood will regenerate at an X rate which will closely resemble the rate at which bone marrow actually regenerates blood in real life. Now if you're nourished, hydrated and healthy, your blood will regenerate at an X multiplied by Y rate. Y being a certain percentage "buff" depending on your current health state. If you health isn't in a good state, it would have the opposite effect and act as a "debuff". Someone in the medical field would have to iron out the details as I myself don't know exactly how fast blood regenerates and what else factors into the rate of regeneration. The only way to immediately regain blood should be with blood bags. -
The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell

Surviving in a group would be easier with certain situations but of course groups and solo players have their own set of difficulties. For an example, a group would have a better chance against zombie attacks, player attacks, and clearing out areas infested by zombies (think walking dead), splitting up certain survival tasks, watch each other backs. However, it is much harder to constantly find supplies for a full group and you are also responsible for other group members decisions (some fires a weapon in an are full of zombies for whatever reasons) you will all pay for that. Solo players will have almost no chance when shit hits the fans, you are not going to be able to run forever like you can in the MOD. However if they aren't detected, scavenging is a lot easier when it's only for one person. You need a lot less supplies. Different play styles have their own set of difficulties which is great. As far as pouncing on a person that wanders from the group, it's a good tactical plan. Don't get caught by the group. It won't end well for you haha Like I said at the start of this thread way back when, I love it. It doesn't punish a play style but instead attaches proper difficulty to each one, realistic difficulties and I know almost all of you agree. Well obviously it won't stop it but it doesn't make it as easy. Without military grade weapons, zombies being of a higher threat (fire a weapon and every zombie within a certain distance comes running to the source of the noise), chance of catching diseases etc. etc. it is going to make killing and firing your weapon without discretion a dangerous situation. I have to make the reference again as it's the only current show that depicts a world like this accurately. Think about when they get in tight situations with a bunch of zombies. Now think if those zombies were the 28 days later zombies (as they are in dayz). Goodluck! If you're alone, hope for a miracle. Now I ask you, are you going to shoot that gun to just to kill a player when you really don't need to? Worth the risk? This won't stop player killing and I don't want it to. I think player killing, mistrust, standoffs when players run into each other trying to figure out if a player is friendly, the tension etc. etc. is an important part of the game. What this is going to do is make you decide if firing your weapon is really worth mayhem that may ensue. -
Tidbits, nicknacks and other fun items.
Lights Out replied to Jimmars's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like it. I think it adds to the depth and immersion of the game as well as your attachment to your current player's life. Some stuff can be kept on you such as watches, hats, small interactive items. Others can be left at the bases they're suppose to be implementing. Some would have to be kept exactly where you found them. Moving a piano back to your base isn't going to work out too well. Of course unless you reinforce the house and move in. I wonder if base building will allow you to reinforce and stay in preexisting structures. -
You should be able to join a server as a group, however, there will only be a chance that you actually spawn together just like there would only be a chance that you'd be together if something like this went down. The chance would have to be hard coded along with some parameters to stop people from abusing the system. For an example, you join as a group of 6. Maybe you all spawn separately, maybe there is a group of 3 and the other 3 are spawned solo in other locations, maybe 2 groups of 2 that are in different locations and the other two are spawned solo at different locations. Everyone spawning together should be VERY rare. I'd further explain how the coding of it would work but no need to get too technical, I think you get what I'm saying. However, if you die, you should NOT be able to spawn back into the group. This should only work when everyone is a fresh spawn.

Different voice levels when talking or typing
Lights Out replied to St. Jimmy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
lol you should have the option to use that or not. If someone is married with children and they have to yell at someone in the distance in the middle of the night..oh boy lol -
     Two ideas come to mind -Putting bright balloons on every zombie in cherno. -Tieing three balloons to multiple cars and playing mario kart
-
Might still take a few batteries but they would still be easier to find, at least at first. You'd have to build a basic battery bank to better sustain the electricity. This would put an idea I read on another post to good use about having a lot of deserted cars in cherno (Kind of makes sense that there should be a lot of civilian vehicles in such a big place).
-
With base building planned in the future, they should allow us to reinforce preexisting structures for our own use as well. You could have the ability to decide who gets the electricity from your generator. There has to be solar panels somewhere in Cherno.

The goal in Dayz should be survive, not pvp
Lights Out replied to ElysionField's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think everyone basically touched on the subject perfectly. You get those players that just kill to piss you off but knowing this is a possibility adds to the tension which is great. Not to mention, the more worth that is tied to your character, the less you're going to trust people which is how it would be in real life. Some times it translates to shooting on sight, other times it is avoiding the confrontation all together. I don't think you should ever put boundaries on the game, specifically PvP here, but instead make it worth while to team up instead. This will start by having tasks that are made more manageable in a group setting (surviving should be easier for a group, however it has it's disadvantages as well) and adding more uniqueness to characters (put more worth in the character themselves, not only what is in their pack; I believe a passive skill system is planned for the game). Lastly, with zombies expected to be an increased threat along with, at the very least, a decrease in the number of military guns, firing a weapon without any thought should prove more dangerous this time around. All these planned enhancements and added difficulty will help with the non-stop, pointless killing. Not to mention, as mentioned before about bases, there will be more to do. This will give people other things to do besides just killing and surviving. On a side note, it baffles me how all of these posts by individuals that are non native speakers of English are always more grammatically correct than a large amount of those who have been speaking the language their entire life. -
You shouldn't be able to run indefinitely. This is a reason why zombies aren't of a higher threat.

wolves, bears, snakes, I want them all...obviously you want deer, rabits, and stuff but I want dangerous animals as well

DayZ - Making prisoners very ease suggestion
Lights Out replied to punisherita's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Reasons above ^ Should keep it as is. Just catch someone at gun point before they see you and tell them to drop their weapons and do as you say. Then search their bag to ensure all firearms are out. This way, it's still their choice, comply or die. -
Not necessarily, you just have to make gas rare.

So my suggestion, the ultimate Apache Mod! One server with nothing but Apache25's ideas (& all related accounts lol). This server will be under Apache Law, what he says goes. What is it for? Well it's where all the trolls, Alt+F4ers, hackers, cheaters, etc. etc. go to die, or worse, live. It's a punishment worse than perma-death and being perma-banned..combined. All offenders will be automatically transferred to the server. Alright in all serious, I'm not serious. All the time and coding required could be better spent obviously, but damn would it be hilarious.
-
Ohhhhh apache25, you're a clever one! ...Trolls will one day sing songs of you
-
The idea has been discredited time and time again. 1) The feature will be misused and abused. For an example, camping spawns and killing fresh spawns, camping buildings/loots. 2) Player cannot and or will not accurately portray this type of zombie which will probably break some immersion. These zombies are suppose to be mindlessly aggressive and persistent. Players will try and take a tactful approach. That's just to name a couple reasons why.
-
I don't know about smarter. If they hold true to this genre of zombies, they aren't tactful, but mindlessly aggressive and persistent. That type of behavior needs to be accurately encoded. They need to make it known that they want to rip your face off when they're chasing you. Encounters should be sketchy situations. You should be afraid of such situations and fear for your life during them, be unsure if you're going to make it out alive. Head shots only, no, however wounds that hurt us shouldn't necessarily hurt them. Keyword is hurt. They are still able to be killed by conventional means being that they are still living humans, however, I don't think someone with mindless aggression would feel pain as we do. Mix that with what is planned which is smoother animations (no glitchy zig zag, not having to stop to attack), humans not being able to run endlessly, etc. etc. and you'll get the experience you want.

Suggestion - USE THE SEARCH BAR NEWBIES!
Lights Out replied to 3rdparty's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
1) Due in large part because people don't use tags 2) You should search more than one word when searching. Not everyone uses the same wording to reference things. I wouldn't say the search is broken, it's just not all that competent. Try searching "medical system" -
My suggestion for the stand alone
Lights Out replied to Geoffrey (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Don't get me started on magical meat and food haha I hope he does away with meat magically giving you blood. Your blood should regenerate at a slow constant rate all the time. Staying nourished, hydrated, and healthy should only slightly increase this blood regeneration. Opposite goes for not meeting those needs. Completely agree, clear some of the HUD up. Certain things that can be left up to perception shouldn't be up there. Sound you're making visibility, etc. etc. Honestly some of it can definitely be cleared up and others may be able to be cleared up by giving certain visual/audible cues but they would have to be tested to see if it works. (Stomach growling, dizzyness, blurred vision. Stuff like that) Honestly it will be an alpha when released (which many tend to forget) and I'd love to test as much ideas out as possible to see what works before the game is finished. What's the worst that happens, we find out something doesn't fit and it gets taken out. As long as the correct priorities are addressed in order of importance, I wouldn't mind testing out a whole bunch of features. It will only make the game better in the end.
