I wonder if they've put any thought into making mic chatter heard by zombies and animals.

    Editable/Markable Maps

Didn't find much on this topic or maps in general. Either that or it's just that no one uses tags properly. I've read about Rocket wanting to do a journal type feature. Some of it may be auto logged while it can also be used for you to take notes and such maybe. Suggestion My idea is more for the ability to draw and mark up a map you find of the region. This can be carried with you or kept at your base somewhere. Basically this would be used as a type of intel. What it offers for gameplay While Alive -You can mark up small towns of interest that you ran into. Maybe it was over run with zombies and you want to come back to it later. You can mark that point with a pencil/marker. (You'd need to find that item as well.) -You've run into a place which you believe to be a player base. You may want to mark that as well for various intentions. (raid, ambush, scouting mission to see if they're friendly) -Found a location (town, cabin, military secret base, player base) that is not depicted on the map already. You might want to put in this location. -You've found loot at specific locations, you may want to take note of that on your map just in case you need it in the future or you have no inventory space and have to come back for it later. -You have stashes in various locations to minimize loss. Hiding all stuff in a single location is pretty risky. If a player finds it he can wipe you clean. You can mark these location on maps. -Maybe certain color dots you make on the map correspond to exact coordinates you keep on your journal. Maybe with more information about the location. After Death The other part where this would come into play besides for your own reference while alive, is after death. If another player picks this up off your body, well they can pick of valuable intel on places of interest. Maybe they find out that you have their base marked and have been watching them. etc. etc.

Indeed, this would work with GPS as well. Personally, I've always wanted to mark certain things on the map/gps for my own reference. For fear of it being taken while being held up, you can take extra precaution and code your intel in some way. So whether you're the one using it or the one taking it from someone else, it makes the map and gps even more valuable

New Dev Blog Report: November 2012

@Rocket I've read about of a bunch of the changes you plan to make. New features aside, it seems like a bunch of existing features are receiving some polishing up and in some cases, complete overhauls. For an example, much of the medical system is receiving a complete overhaul. My question comes from a key feature I haven't heard much about but has been talked about on the forum by myself and many others. Currently, you can die rather quickly from dehydration and or starvation. Have you put any thought to making it a bit more realistic, or authentic as you put it? My idea would be that the player goes through different stages before death. The overall process of dying would be extended and the player would see cues on the screen instead of having the icons, which I know you plan to take out. For an example the player would experience dizzyness, decreased energy (not being able to sprint as much for an example), hallucinations (audible and or visual) and random unconsciousness (all in order) before they finally bite the dust. Thoughts?

    Cries and shouts from injury/death

Sounds cool but there's some stuff you have to account for. 1) People have different pain thresholds, to account for this, players shouldn't be forced to scream from a gun shot wound, broken bone, etc.. This would only bring zombies to their location and spell certain death. In this situation, no matter what kind of pain I was in I would not scream, maybe grimace with a slight grunt, but I'm not going to ring the dinner bell. 2) Forced screams should only occur when a player is being eaten alive by zombies. I highly doubt people would go quietly in that situation. And I mean a horrifying scream. 3) It would be funny if there was a scream button that could be used for players that want to role play a bit. Would be kind of funny to sneak up behind people in the middle of the night and scream

New Dev Blog Report: November 2012

    Make that a double
  7. Lights Out

The dumbed down weapon damage system

A single shot from ANY weapon? Depending on the gun and the caliber, I would argue if every single weapon incapacitated you with a single shot. Partly due to adrenaline, people have been shot and have not even been aware of it. Depending on the placement of the shot, people with higher pain thresholds can go on relatively unbothered until blood loss becomes an issue. Different guns should react differently based on the gun shot wounds they cause but different guns shouldn't exactly "deal more direct damage". I'd definitely like to see different guns/calibers have an effect on the rate of your blood loss or how quickly you can get the bleeding to stop. I think where guns should really differentiate is when they are used in different situations. Accuracy at a distance, fire rate in close quarters, etc. etc. Not so much the damage they deal but the situations a gun may be more useful in.

New Dev Blog Report: November 2012

I'm guessing the mention of a delay indeed means that development isn't as far along as they want to be. Regardless, everything you're doing sounds great.

    vehicles are WAY too fragile

To fix this problem, I don't think it is as simple as "toughening it up". You not only have to mess with the physics of how vehicles interact with different parts of the environment, but you'd also have to code how different impacts effect different parts of the vehicle.
  10. I agree with the idea of making the HUD color scheme changeable, it would be a rather easy fix. If you plan on buying the standalone, note that Rocket plans to eventually free up even more of the HUD and replace it with visual cues which may also help your situation.

Discussion of the standalone defecation\poo feature

I just hope there isn't a way to massively troll a whole server with these diseases.
  12. You could still make it work with some tweaking. It can just be an added disease that is only contracted through interaction with the infected. When being attacked by a zed, you would have an X% chance of becoming infected. Once infected, you would gauge how long you have until the virus takes over by your body temperature and visual cues (such as the shakes or hallucinations). The higher your fever spikes the closer you are to turning. Maybe have some kind of antibiotic that stops the spread of the virus but doesn't cure it. This means that if attacked again, you still have a chance of becoming reinfected. After you hit that point of no return, you would instantly turn unless your friends decided to out you before for their own safety. It would add to immersion by adding a decision for your group to make as to how to handle this, that is if you even told them you may be infected. I posted a more in depth thread about this if anyone is interested. http://dayzmod.com/f...es/#entry662756 This might actually be more plausible as not everyone will turn once dead. You can hard code a formula through various case statements to limit the amount of people contracting the disease and turning on each server.

Would you quit if servers went expert?

I would LOVE it. Although I completely agree with why people prefer third-person, as it does better depict the way our vision works in real life, the third person feature is abused and used in a way that wasn't intended. They use it to hide behind objects yet still look and survey the area, peak over the tops of walls, scan every direction while running, etc. etc. If you could modify the player view to better address this abuse of third person, I would be all for it. Until then, I would prefer first person only servers.

    More focus on Zed's

It won't be abandoned but it won't be updated by the devs anymore. The plan is to have the MOD completely run by the community with minimal oversight and guidance from the devs. As you saw, the last patch was solely a community collaboration.
  15. Lights Out

    Move the corpses !

I like the idea, however, I'd have to ask how long do you expect these persist on the server? I know the standalone is suppose to be better optimized and more efficient but something like this could cause performance issues.
  16. Lights Out

    More animals

Yea, I think animals should be the main source of food. Canned food and such should be extremely sparse. Animals should also be authentic and act as they do in real life. For an example, deer should startle very easily and run while bears should try to eat your face off. As well, like stated, I would love to see a large variety of different animals.

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

haha I hear you on that one, I've been waiting for the next little update. However, no updates means that they are working hard at keeping on track for that december release and having the game as far along as possible. It's a great sign to me.
  18. Lights Out

    Suggestion - Ghosts?

As said above, I rather see hallucinations. It's more easily explainable as it can be related to drugs, being very sick/running a fever, or starvation/dehydration. Edit: This still gets the experience you are suggesting, just in a more easily explainable way that the community can accept much more easily.

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

From what I heard, they are going to do away with the debug monitor. They are trying to remove as much clutter from the screen as possible and use more visual cues instead. Whether this will be seen in the initial release or a later release, we don't know, but that is what's planned. We'll have to wait and see how things progress. Edit: Refer to the thread where Rocket answers questions from the community and his tumblr for most of the released information about what is being worked on and what is planned. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/38476-the-one-line-questions-for-rocket-thread/ http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/
  20. Mud maps (editable and mark-able maps). I'd love to be able to mark things I see throughout a map. Player camps, loot that can be of later interest, vehicles, dangerous areas, items you have hid etc. etc. All you would need is a writing utensil and a map to be made editable. Would be useful to be able to keep track of what you see. Even more useful for the person that may steal the map or take it off your dead body, valuable intel.
  21. Yea that is exactly what I mean. Also, whenever I suggest something, more often than not, I'm talking in terms of the standalone. I understand the MOD's limitations very well and don't wish to put any more features there. My suggestions are always geared towards the standalone.
  22. Yea, I agree the bullet shouldn't send you flying back but I'd like to see some reaction to bullet shots and melee hits.
  23. I don't see melee being a huge need so it doesn't need to have a bunch of depth but it should be in there, definitely. Sometimes I would like to knock a player out and or disarm them instead of killing them being that I'm not really into the whole mindless PvP thing. However if I'm in a tight spot, I may want to sneak up, fight you and take what I need. So basic punching, kicking, shoving, a disarm and maybe some moves for when you sneak up behind someone would be useful (knocking them out with the butt of the gun or a sleeper holder) Not to mention, it would kind of be funny to have a little boxing match with friends when they piss you off :D We all know it happens.
  24. As many will say, all these have been suggested but I'll comment as I never mind talking about something that I believe will improve DayZ. First I'll start by saying that most of the mechanics that don't work well will probably work more efficiently come the release of the standalone. I would like to see bullets and weapons have more of an effect on the infected. For an example, hitting them in different areas of the body should have different effects. On top of this, what i hit them with should also have different effects. For an example, if I stab them, unless it's a fatal or dismembering blow it really shouldn't bother them at all. However, if I hit you with a bat, it only makes sense that they may stumble a bit. Also, these infected are like the zombies from 28 days later, they are mindlessly aggressive. If I shoot them with a makarov, they shouldn't be bothered by the pain of a bullet unless it actually has an effect on them outside of pain. However if I shoot them in the head they should die instantly. Just two examples of how I want the infected to react different to damage from different weapons and different blows. Also realize that with these infected expected to be at a much higher number along with more fluid mechanics, they should definitely pose a much higher threat. Just imagine of bunch of the zombies that no longer have to stop their movement to hit you. As far as your blood thirsty suggestion, I don't think you should push this too far as it can get arcadey very quickly. I would say just allow realistic dismemberment. Maybe the ability to beat a zombies face in.
  25. Don't label us all as being arrogant like that. It's pretty ignorant to say so. I'm sure you agree that every race and nationality has their own set of people that are extremely ignorant. As for your use of the word n*****, I'm sure most English speaking people are going to automatically relate the word with racism as that is what it means in our language. We don't know your language so we can only go by what we know. It's good to know you didn't mean it in the way we thought, just a misunderstanding. All that aside though I love the idea. There should be armor to protect the part of the body it is on however it should have some negative effects on you as far as stamina and range of movement. You would also need to make zombie attack different parts of the body so armor doesn't become a sort of invulnerable shield of sorts. As far as swords, yes! I'd love to have a sword! I don't always want to be firing a weapon and making noise. I would reserve that for a situation when I'm in a tight spot and have no other choice. You would need to make it realistic as well. Maybe have longer clicks of the mouse result in a stronger swing for more damage, however, it would take time to recover making you vulnerable to an attack from another zombie. You can do quicker swings to stay balanced and ready to attack however it would do less damage. You should also need to perform maintenance on your blade like sharpening it. After "X" amount of times of sharpening it, the blade should break as it becomes structurally weak. No matter what, there definitely needs to be an increase of melee weapons and silent weapons such as crossbows and bow & arrows. Something as simple as a pipe should be able to be used. The weight of the weapons should also have different effects when being used. Hitting a zombie with a pipe should have a different effect from a blade. Blades should be different as well. The length of it should be taken in account as well as the shape of it. Some are meant for stabbing while other are meant for slicing. Some are meant for both.
