It's normal Arma II isn't very gpu intensive. It eats CPU for breakfast, but graphically its quite easy going for todays high end gpu's.

arma 2 inherent mouse problems
Gungy replied to WhipDiddyWhip's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Easy fix, go to mydoc's, into the arma folder and edit the ArmA2OA.cfg. The line that says GPU_MaxFramesAhead=, change it to GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1. this tends to fix that issue for most people. -
Download Arma II lite, if you can run any all the training missions with fps of 50+ chances of the mod running at 30+ are good.
-
the only way to get OA lite is buy the reinforcements DVD sorry.

Issues before even purchasing ArmA, anyone willing to help

OH please! Half you people are giving out the WRONG info here. This guide will assume you are capable of making sure your fully patched upto date and know how to install the Dayz mod. Option 1 cheapest. You need Arma II reinforcements As your first choice. That's British armed forces, Private military company and Operation Arrowhead lite (lite for OA just means No single player missions, you still get full textures unlike Arma II lite). This however is retail DVD only. most stores will have a copy I got Mine from Game for £9.99. You then download and Install Arma II lite, All you really need for the mod is the Chernarus Map contained within. Install and run this http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8241 The Arma II launcher. On the launch options tab Choose the locations of the exe's for Arma II and Aram II OA, But if you have The disk I mention it'll be the arma2rft exe you choose for OA. Install the Mod in the same method everyone else does but into the Reinforcements main directory. Add the -mod=@dayz to the Additional Parameters part of the launcher. and choose the Game version at the bottom right as Arma II - CO. click start game and your golden. *Note* this launcher will work with the Steam versions. It will also allow you to run the games without steam running. This is not a hack etc, Steam is a distribution method not DRM for Arma II. Arma II contains it's Own DRM. It will also allow you to mix and match between Steam and retail version. And allow you to run the Beta Patch also. Option 2 Buy AO from steam or Sprocket. install Arma II lite from either steam or direct from the BI website. this will work again with the launcher, downside to this is you have Low res PMC and BAF textures from only having the lite versions. However the mod is totally playable. for the price of 1 game. the rest of the set up for this option is the same just you substitute the arma2rft.exe for the arma2oa.exe. there pretty much is the easiest way to get in the mod. there is nothing stopping you from upgrading the versions later depending on which you choose. the launcher will detect and launch any version of the game and even add the dlc.s from the BI website to the steam versions. it is that versatile. -
It really is that simple. Doing so just increases your chances of being killed before you know what happened. I'll explain why, with a little story of what happened to me last night. Usual day, avoiding everyone and looking for loot. So I enter this building, with only one way in. Then I hear gunfire, quite close so I hit the deck. Ever so slowly I back up keeping the only entrance in view. I'm confident My rear and flanks are safe I had already swept the building and was ready to leave. So patiently I sit waiting to see if I have guests. Then I hear foot steps to my right. I turn and there he is, the most unlucky player I ever encountered. He hadn't even noticed Me because it was night time. The floor must of made Me invisible, But he would move forward at some point. If I'm honest I did panic a little, I didn't know his intentions. There wasn't time to ask them either. With a fire flash of death 30 7.62 rounds ripped through him, all was quiet his body just slumped. He didn't have the slightest clue what happened, just that a hail of bullets had ended all his work. Had he logged out just 10 feet to the left, on the outside wall of the same building he would still be alive now. With that in mind, if YOU have chance leave towns etc and head for the forest. There will be less chance another player will have reason to be there when you log back in.

[GUIDE] Day Z Amazon/Retail Version installation guide [VIDEO] $15
Gungy replied to nipperson's topic in New Player Discussion
Well done show people how to buy the game from a location that BI see no profit from. Well done! Your fantastic! (sarcasm). Rocket has asked people don't buy it from Crappyzon for that reason, after all BI do pay his bills. Show Support for the MOD, buy the game from Sprocket or Steam. They are both recommended retailers. And thus give BI profits, and in paying a little extra you show your support for the MOD. -
It needs Rocket to Lock the forums, have a bug reporting forum where anything that is a genuine bug can be reported. Anything posted there that isn't, is instantly nuked. Rocket you have had the the idea of the decade with this mod. Please don't allow this to continue. No matter how much you think it will not, You will get swayed away from Your vision. And it will be on this forum the seed is planted. This forum will become a whinefest for the anti everything crowd. I trust in your vision, I will stay even with some of the features I may dislike. Hold true to your Own vision for this mod. Don't listen to all the X is bad, Y breaks the game threads. Just Lock the forums down, so you can complete your vision, as you see fit. Or before you know it, you'll be implementing things people cry for, without even realising it. And we'll be playing L4D in Arma II. I honestly believe the publicity the mod has received was too soon. not enough of the base mod was created, before the hordes of whinerncry stormed the gates. And yes even I have found myself suggesting things that will change the game. It's human nature for us to want to get a piece of ourselves in this. So I'm pleading with you, not to listen. Stamp out the fires of whinencry's armies. shut this down! It's already nothing but repeated whines with different titles. And it will only get worse.
-
I know there is a bug forums, and I'm saying that's all there should be. It's becoming too much, there are suggestions for features in every sub forum. The place is becoming a mess and a whinefest. Also no matter how much somebody thinks they are immune. Whines always affect you, whether you want to admit it or not. So there will be an effect on the Mod with all this one way or another. And I don't want that to happen.

[Suggestion] Humanity and it's effect! Player interaction declining!
Gungy posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Reason. There has been a marked decrease in player interaction in the last few days. which has got even worse with perceived removal of the humanity meter. And there has been a large influx of players that are just running round killing with no regard for consequences as there are non. This has resulted in people no longer asking if friendly to try avoid potentially lethal exchanges. People are now just shooting everyone they see on sight. for fear of being shot themselves. Suggestion. Make humanity directly linked to character creation, the more negative your score. and NUMBER of times (say 4 or more) you respawn in 6 hours. The longer it takes to get back in ANY server. Result. The cod kiddies as they were so eloquently described in another thread, will have no choice but start playing more tactically. rather than the current spawn, run to cherno, find somebody, shoot them, get eaten by zeds, start again. If their humanity drops so low they have to wait 15, 20 or even 30 mins to respawn, they will change. As for the Bandits that do play with concern for their own survival, they should be be OK. If their any good they probably only need to respawn every other day or more. Obvious result of this suggestion. No true DayZ player will argue with this idea. They will just offer refinement to the idea. However I expect a large number of NO! Stupid Idea etc. My money (if i gambled) is on them being a cod kiddie :P -
[Suggestion] Humanity and it's effect! Player interaction declining!
Gungy replied to Gungy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I can't argue with people doing as they wish. However I do feel perma death just isn't sufficient on it's own to deter the run and gun play style. And it's that play style, that's making people too jumpy to even ask if your friendly any more. -
[Suggestion] Humanity and it's effect! Player interaction declining!
Gungy replied to Gungy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I've seen it for myself, there we're 3 people who kept appearing in the killed list on a server. all they were doing was running to churno, finding a weapon if possible. Then trying to kill any other player they saw. If they failed they just respawned and tried again. If you think about it, that isn't the idea behind this mod at all. What I'm suggesting wouldn't affect 99% of the players. You could have a humanity score of -6,000,000 and get killed and get straight back into a server. However you have -1 and spawned 4 times in the last hour. your waiting 10 mins buddy. Even longer if it's even lower. LOL and obviously i like my idea, it's mine after all. -

Wow somebody with a classical Education. lol. No sarcasm, nice to meet you. Never expected a response of that nature, more leet speak or whatever they call that crap. -
Yeah it has degraded a lot since the influx of what was so eloquently refered to as cod kiddies. Simple fix, you ready for this? Well look in the suggestion forum, it will get flamed no doubt by all the cod kiddies that will absolutely detest the idea. Lol.
-
I have seen a marked reduction in friendly request and responses. Since humanity was removed it has become more of a shoot first ask never game. I honestly believe humanity needs to come back fast. Yeah drop the skin for bandits but find some other negative to reward the evil. And in kind the same for the humane.

[Sugestion] new feature idea, regarding npc's. the walking living.
Gungy posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As it stands there are 100's of NPC's on servers, but their all Zeds. To Me this seems quite odd. It stands to reason there would be people other than survivors and bandits. So to the idea. Put small groups of NPC's in locations on the map which obviously will attract Zeds. Which then gives us a choice. 1. Protect them for spawning rewards of ammo, weapons, equipment and food stuffs. Which improve in quality based on humanity average of the person(s) defending them. 2. Attack them and the defenders if any, and claim their rewards. This idea has several positive points that will utilise several features currently in game and being perfected. As well as giving survivors and bandits something defined to fight about. But and this a big but. It would require the Zeds not to spawn inside towns etc. More just on the edges, so there is a defined area inside the town where normals spawn. Now the reasons his will work 1. Survivors will have reason to put down roots of sort and get to know others. 2. People will be less inclined to jump from server to server for the following reasons. 3. You can use the wire, tank traps and sand bags to fortifie your chosen town. 4. It will encourage both survivors and bandits to form groups. 5. The survivors are more likely to act as they would in real life. And that would be keep a guard whilst others go out on scavenging runs. 6. It would require larger groups to defend and attack the larger towns, so they probably wouldn't change much. Oh, and don't get bogged down thinking on too larger a scale. What I'm suggesting could be as little as 1 survivor protecting some npc's in 1 house with wire at the door. Right up to 20 taking one of the smaller towns. It can be as large or small an operation as your number or friends will allow. There you go, I think I've covered it all. -
[Sugestion] new feature idea, regarding npc's. the walking living.
Gungy replied to Gungy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Don't get me wrong here, I DO NOT want to change the game. I do however want to have civilians in it. I find it hard to believe there wouldn't be any. So my thoughts were based on the what if. And how would that work. So lets not say no to the idea but transform this into something that could work for the overall game. Seriously, why is there no military still alive? again hard to believe. Why is there no fortified compound? Wouldn't one exist? I honestly believe yes. Shouldn't I be able to trade beans and equipment I find for things I do need? in said compound. Ok, and rather than protecting civilians in towns etc, how about you lead them to fabled safe haven for humanity points. LOL hell I could shoot the breeze all day with why's and what if's. All I'm trying to say here, is there MUST be life other than Survivors and Bandits. And there has to be some way they can integrate into both life styles without taking anything away from what the game is about. Just adding to it for a far better experience for everyone. -

Very constructive. I always thought forums were meant to be used for discussion of ideas. Which is why I put no negatives in my original post.
