Funniest Hacker Ever - West Coast Private Hive
catface.jpg posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So I was on a private hive with the wife the other night. We were scavenging around for about 45 minutes and came upon a field of vehicles by the factory in Cherno. Boats, on dry land. fully-repaired vehicles, fully-fueled. Definite hacker presence. We shuffle on past and continue looking for tools and supplies. Then, the hacker started getting cute. He would teleport in by people and kill them. Sidechat was lit up with the typical "ermagerd hacker" cries. Then it was our turn. He teleported in behind us, and we ran. He started firing with a suppressed M4. Couldn't hit us. He emptied two mags trying. I started talking smack in sidechat about how he can't shoot. He got madder, teleported behind us again, same shuffle. After two attempts, he finally got us. I gave him so much shit about it he tried to make us his personal bitches. I spawned, he teleported next to me. I'd run circles around him as he tried to kill me unsuccessfully, until he'd finally get me through sheer brute force of attempts. I'd spawn, he'd do it again. Some of the funnier moments: * He spawned a 4x4 and tried to run me over with it, but missed me and drove it off the pier at Cherno. * He tried to kill me with a Bizon. Given his poor marksmanship, this was HILARIOUS. * He tried to kill me with grenades. He missed twice, and with his third killed himself. After this, he turned God Mode on. * He tried unsuccessfully to kill me with a sniper rifle of some kind from about 100m. I was standing at the end of a pier (waiting for him), and just sidestepping before he'd shoot. He gave up and tossed a satchel charge on the pier to kill me. I turned him into such a laughing stock in sidechat that others joined. Nobody was mad anymore about the hacker, we were all just laughing at him and making humorous speculations about his home life. People were announcing in sidechat when they respawned, and arguing over whose turn it was to be killed by him. This went on for a good 90 minutes. I eventually had to quit out because I had work this morning and couldn't be up all night. -
Beans to you both. Better hiding of gear is a natural extension of the current situation in Chernarus. Theft is rampant. I would not leave all of my shit in a tent in a RL situation like that. I'd bury it, put it up a tree, stash it in hidey-holes in buildings, etc. I like the idea of more hiding places, as well as the idea of a way for people to still find my stuff if they look hard enough with the right tools.

What is the worst thing you've ever said to a hacker?
catface.jpg replied to nicraM's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Like others, I choose a stoic non-response. Or I'll just lol in side-chat if it's available. Worst I've done is say "Oh, classy" in a sarcastic tone. I've been meaner to bandits. One time I got shot and mortally wounded by a bandit, and returned fire well enough to cripple him. The noise we made brought zombies from all over. We were swarmed and equally fucked. I mashed caps-lock and shouted "YEAH YOU'RE DYING WITH ME, ASS-HOLE!" We died. -
Once you get established in this game, you can start to take more and more risks because all you need to do is find a tent and hide it decent (or build multiples on multiple servers). You can dupe up any item and ammo you want once you find one. Even if you don't have a tent, often you can just find your own body and loot yourself. Death is no longer a hazard...in a *survival game*. I propose that Tents (naturally, fixed tents that autosave to not allow duping) be tied to the hive and the player's inventory. It pops up on any server to which you connect, in the location you placed it. Naturally, there would need to be some sort of a cap on the number of tents you could own. I propose further that once a player dies, they *lose access* to their own corpse and their tents. That stuff is gone, you died. You can't have it again. It's realistic that your killer, or a bystander, would find your body and loot it. It is NOT realistic that you come back to life and loot yourself. The tent should become a permanent fixture (until looted/hidden) on the server where you died, so people who find it can loot it until it's empty. Exactly the way your body currently is when you die. The exception being, the original owner (now dead, and respawned) cannot activate it. There are a ton of "that's not realistic" concerns with having tents follow a player, but they pale in comparison to the completely unrealistic and game-changing ability to "take it with you" when you die. That's like...rule #1 of life. You can't take it with you. Make death scary again!

Really, whats the harm in a no PVP server?
catface.jpg replied to zombiefish's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You are not correct. Passworded servers are possible, and exist. If you have a group of friends IRL who want to play and not get shot at, you can do a passworded server. ...if you have $50 a month, or a couple months to wait for a server install ;) -
Really, whats the harm in a no PVP server?
catface.jpg replied to zombiefish's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Nothing is actively stopping you... ...except approximately $50 US monthly in dedicated hosting fee from a place that can set up instantly, or several weeks of waiting for Bohemia to install the software on your intended host. My company is chock full o' nerds and many of us are playing Day Z. We've been waiting like a month and a half for the server install. Private hive should be something anyone with the software can host. I hope that's given thought during the standalone dev :3 -
Really, whats the harm in a no PVP server?
catface.jpg replied to zombiefish's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree, it would be really nice if creating private hive games were easier. Right now, you have to put in a ticket with Bohemia and wait weeks for the server to be installed. It should be something you can do locally without a dedicated server. Def agree that it shouldn't be public hive, as it would be abused. I mean, in theory, no harm in having non-PVP folk enjoy the game. But PVP folk would simply abuse it as a loot factory as someone has mentioned. -
A gun is a gun. Any human wearing civilian clothing (not body armor) who gets shot with any projectile is going to feel pain and fall. The following scenario happens differently in real life than in the game: In RL: Person with makarov encounters person with AK-47. Person with makarov fires first, three rounds to the chest before person with AK can react. Person with AK drops to the ground, critically wounded and unable to function normally. In game: Person with makarov encounters person with AK-47. Person with makarov fires first, three rounds to the chest before person with AK can react. Person with AK pulls trigger, and quickly wins the Damage Per Second vs. Healthbar contest that is oh-so-played out in multiplayer gaming. Person who shot first is dead, person who was shot three times in the chest fixes themselves with a bandage and returns to normal gameplay within 10 seconds. I propose realistic damage from bullets, and realistic impairment from injuries. I shot a player (in self-defense) last night, in the head, with a makarov. They were knocked unconscious but were not killed. This shouldn't happen. Firstly, a head shot with any weapon should be an instant death. Other damage should be relative to impact location. Shot in the right arm? You're going to have a hell of a time firing that rifle, then. Shot in the chest? Maybe a flak jacket can stop the bullet but a large enough round will still knock you on your ass. No jacket? You're critically wounded. Infection is imminent and your recovery is not guaranteed until you can get proper medical attention and rest. You shouldn't be able to just eat some cooked meat and be back at 100%. Maybe if someone bandages you, the bleeding can stop, but you're still wounded and impaired. Currently, the deathmatch component of the game is too much like deathmatch always has been. Since as far back as Quake. Experienced players become nearly invincible, as they cycle through the map picking up the same health buffs over and over again after winning individual engagements. Surely anyone who's been shot in real life can tell you, it's more than a six-steak fix. Recovery time is a bitch.

[Video] Kamenka Loot Route Tutorial - Before you jump off that lighthouse, consider watching my route from Kamenka to Zelenogorsk.
catface.jpg replied to livbythegun's topic in New Player Discussion
I LOVE that spawn. Kamenka, Komarovo, Balota, anywhere around there I run up north and hit deer stands. Just like you! Those three deer stands you circled as an alternate are my preferred set, though. They're easy to farm for good loot. In fact, if you're farming, you really only need the southernmost two. And you can walk between them in complete cover of forest. Then, like you, I usually hit a barn outside Zelenogorsk (the second you went to), and then the market. This was an excellent tutorial, sir. Finger wags for sharing a good secret. Part of what I love about that route and neighborhood is how rarely you meet other people (until you get to Zelenogorsk). The more people view your tutorial, the more will be there. But maybe they'll be more friendly, others looking for a safe route to scavenge without starting a ruckus. Beans to you either way. That's fine work you did. Fine work indeed. -
This would definitely fit circumstances. I hadn't considered this. Beans to u :3

Something tells me you're going to start hating this game as it matures.

Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
catface.jpg replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Every single one of these items is incredible. Want. Want them all. -
Thank you, kryvian! Reading all the spoilers in that section gave me a halfy. I hope it all makes it into the standalone. Every single detailed piece. it's incredible.

Dayz Tent Bugs, Items disappear on server restart
catface.jpg replied to Dragonslayer2 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I too have seen this, and it is not the behavior I'm talking about. On that server, if I deploy a tent, pack it up, deploy it again 3 feet to the north, pack it up, and keep repeating... ...when I come back after server restart every single place I put that tent will have a tent. It's broken such that it dupes tents. It's not the empty-tent thing, I've seen that on other servers and am familiar with it. -
Just had an encounter that leads me to believe a headshot with a Makarov is NOT an instant-kill, like it should be. The situation: I was walking left out of the front door of the Cherno supermarket on a private hive. Immediately across the street was a player, who fired at me, breaking my legs. I dropped like a sack. I was still awake, bleeding and leg-broke. I had ONE ROUND in my LAST MAKAROV MAG. I figured I was dead, but I had one chance - shoot him in the head. I had one round to try. I saw him, he was not moving, he was looking at me. I lined up carefully on his head, and fired my round. Blood exploded from his skull, and he was KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS. So, I definitely hit him. I definitely hit him in the head. The gameserver registered the hit. It just didn't call the hit a kill, regardless of it being a head shot. It didn't even do much blood damage, because the resulting swarm of zombies finished me off - but did not kill him. They were eating him as I shuffled off this mortal coil. Within minutes my travelling companion made it to Cherno, and only my body was there. He had escaped.

So, because of this thread, I finally checked out Arma2. I went through boot camp, which was really just cake and a chance to finally drive a vehicle (a hummer no less!). The interface is completely familiar to me, because of Day Z. There were some topics in there I will check out later, but I figured I knew enough to at least get started. I bailed out of Boot Camp, and checked out the single player campaign. I really enjoyed what I've played so far. The missions have been great, and it has a feel to it like the original Ghost Recon - but updated. More modern, more immersive. I'm really impressed, and I think I'll eventually play out the entire story as well as Operation Arrowhead. I do not think I'll be going online, though. Not unless I could find a total noob group, people who haven't played the missions before and are new to the game. I get the strong feeling that veterans would absolutely spoil this game for me. They've already been through the missions, probably hundreds of times, and would be racing with expert foresight from objective to objective. I'd just be the "stupid noob" holding everyone back, because I'm doing it for the first time. Maybe I can get my Day Z buddies to play it with me.

DayZ players should have the courtesy to play Arma2 at least once or twice.

I am not part of the Arma 2 community because I play Day Z. People who play Arma 2 are part of the Day Z community: Sorry folks, someone took this dry-ass game and did something fun with it. Cope. -
1080p animated DayZ logo - free for use on youtube etc...
catface.jpg replied to jacknorrisuk's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
In-fricking-credible, man. Seriously. Nice work. There simply aren't enough beans for me to give you. But you can have all I have. This is brilliant. I hope rocket sees it and uses your logo anim for the standalone. It's great. -
I don't have a lot of kills, mostly death. I only remember two engagements where I came out ahead. The first one, I'm sitting on a week-old character and trying to keep him alive. My buddy wants to check the Balota ATC tower. So I say fine, YOU check it, I'll cover you from the trees (north of the tower, past the fence). So I sit there with my AKM and watch him run in. After he runs in, and trucks up the stairs, I see a bandit run in behind him. My buddy only had his M1911 and one mag. I warned over skype that he had confirmed unfriendly company en route, and he stood at the top of the stairs with his .45 trained below. I can't see anything at this point. Then I hear .45 rounds cap off. My buddy must have hit him good, because he fled to regroup. He came running out of the tower door, changed weapons from a pistol to a rifle, and was heading back inside. I shot him in the back. Semi-auto firing mode, put a good four or five round sinto him and he went down. We had the tower looted, the bandit looted, his body hid, and were GTFO in less than a minute. My heart was thumping in my chest for like twenty. Dude had a PDW and an AK-74. -------------- The next one, the same buddy and I were looting Cherno's supermarket. We were in the main front area, my buddy was behind the refrigerator counter by the door to the back room, and I was in the front corner of the store by the front door. Someone came running in through the front door wearing camo that I've never seen except on private hive "hacker" sandboxes. He didn't see me, but he saw my buddy and started firing his assault rifle. My buddy had good cover behind that fridge counter. Then, the attacker turned and saw me. Crouching in the corner behind no cover at all, with nothing but my Makarov and a load of sh*t in my pants. My buddy opened fire with his own assault rifle, most likely saving my skin because otherwise the attacker would have lit me up. Attacker decides to take cover, and runs for the opposite wall from me, around the corner from my buddy and out of his sight. I see his head pop out around one of those shelves, and figure I got nothing to lose. I start plugging him in the head with my Makarov. At this point I'm practically choking on adrenaline and "in the zone," and every shot was landing. I've never shot this well on purpose. Instead of returning fire on me, he LOGGED OUT. We couldn't believe it, we were there for a good minute before we closed in on where he was to find him gone. We had both exits covered, he did not slip out. I scared a *bandit*. Into *logging out*. With a *Makarov*. His name in the game was Samhein.

I tihnk that they do get this, actually, and do it on purpose for that reason. Causing grief is the goal of griefers.

There needs to be a suicide option. Especially if you are carrying a firearm. You should be able to use it to shoot yourself in the head. You could do that even swimming. Or, you should be able to drown yourself. It's not realistic that you can lay prone under water indefinitely, and that you cannot dive. From what I understand, diving is added to the Arma3 engine. I wonder if it could be added to the arma2 (soon to be dayz standalone) engine.

Firstly, what are these "games of old" you're talking about? As far back as arcades in the 80s, there's been Top Score screens (remember putting your initials in there, because it was only three characters?) Even when the goal is to stay alive as long as possible (asteroids, galaga, etc), scores are recorded and top scores recognized. EVEN IN DAY Z, you get a leaderboard for the server you're on if you press your (I)nfo key. Secondly, isn't the point of a sandbox to build things? Missions and events are just building things, in the sandbox. All of the tools are already there. You claim that the point of a sandbox is that it is lawless in every way possible...yet you wish to restrict development, expansion, and change. You're saying "don't do this." Sorta like a law ;)

Hey, quick question. If a player is using Female skin, and reaches 5000 humanity, what happens? I know they don't get the hero skin, but do they get the other buffs? The faster running, the bullet resistance? My wife just hit 5000 and there's no skin change because the models don't exist for female chars yet, but we were wondering if she got the perks.

There is a "sweet spot" for distance, where a target must be in order to be hit. You can of course be too far away and that's good. However, you can also be TOO CLOSE... This is frustrating as hell, and you find yourself having to back up from zombies so that your hatchet doesn't pass through them like a ghost. Meanwhile, they can absolutely slash the crap out of you. I know there are other issues with the hatchet (like "reloading" it, in a game priding itself on realism). But this one actually hampers gameplay. Any thing in a line from center-mass on the player to the tip of the hatchet should count as a strike. Or perhaps in a slash-arc. The "strike" spot should not be a single dot 5 feet in front of you. Thanks and happy hunting!
