Do you still have artifacts?
Comcastle replied to Sir Diealot's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The flush method sometimes works for me, I've yet to try anything else. Updates seem to have dried up, so I assume that Rocket and Co. are now concentrating on the Standalone version, which makes sense. After all, we were just testing a product that ended up being set to sell. I've been lucky during the development of DayZ, I suffered very few glitches, but since the latest patch I, like just about everyone, suffer from these artifacts. I can't go near any military areas unless I run around looking at the floor, which is not ideal, I'm sure you'll agree. Not to worry though, we can all (hopefully) look forward to a finely polished version when the Standalone is released soon. Then we can play away to our hearts content and look back on the days of glitches, hackers and artifacts with rose tinted glasses. Maybe. -
Have a check to see that you (a) Have a fully updated version of DayZ, and Have the latest beta patch for ARMA. I recently had the same problem, and although I was fully up to date, the only way I could bypass this issue was to 'remote' into the server I was looking to join. Instead of finding the server on the ARMA in game list, use the 'remote' option at the bottom of the screen, input the correct IP address and port info, and connect that way. Hope that helps!

Why are so many 'Bronies' into DayZ?
Comcastle replied to Jony_RocketInMyPocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I had to Google it, and its about grown men who enjoy watching My Little Pony. I've seen this before on other forums, and I just don't get it. Why do grown men get so excited over a kids cartoon that's meant for girls? But hey, each to their own, but I'll stick with watching programmes that have less sinister connotations.- 281 replies

Hmm, seems my latest playthrough has caused this issue again in Berezino. Despite being fixed earlier, a return visit had the glitch to a smaller degree, but with flashing white squares in places. Looked quite pretty. Think it might be down to HDR or another setting though, as I whacked them back up once I'd left the town the first time and carried on away from there.

Yep, I can add that it's just happened to me today, although it's been at least a day or two since the last update and I hadn't had any problems until now. First saw a small area of it around NWAF, I restarted the game and it fixed it. Next I saw it in Berezino and it only seemed to effect the centre of the town, so it was probably caused by the tents next to the hospital. I could stand in the supermarket and look at the hospital and the screen goes crazy, look away from the hospital and everything is fine. Will try the NFOpad fix, see if that works. EDIT- That fix worked for me.

Dayz Standalone, Do arma 2 players need to pay again?
Comcastle replied to PC. (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Pretty bad? ARMA was/is a hardcore soldier sim; a genre that only appeals to people who are interested in sims of that nature. DayZ came along and put a new, more appealing spin on the game. Zombie shooters are going to have a bigger fanbase than soldier sims, in the same way that MS Flight Simulator is going to be more niche than Ace Combat/ HAWX. To critisise a game because it is a niche genre is a failed argument IMO. My memory may fail me a little, but wasn't Counter Strike originally a mod of Half Life? It then became a standalone game due to its massive success? I wonder if people whinged because they "bought HL so they could play CS, and then they brought out CS:Source standalone and why should I pay for it again?" DayZ is a mod, and a free one at that. Stop this 'entitled' attitude that seems rife here, DayZ & Rocket owe us nothing. Its a FREE game, and its in Alpha state too, so its going to be bugged. The mod is a success and is very likely to be released in a standalone format. When that happens, we'll have a solid, bug free game that I'll happily pay for if I'm still interested in the game by this point. If you only bought ARMA to play DayZ, you're not retarded for doing so, as others have suggested, but it is a shame that you feel more entitled to receive discounts, preferential treatment or whatever, than people like me who've bought ARMA for the game it was, then found the mod years later. -
Is it possible to change town names from Russian?
Comcastle replied to enablerbr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To be fair, at first me and my mate would struggle with this, we'd try and pronounce where the hell we were and just confuse each other when it came to finding each other. In the end we just printed off an A4 sized map that is one of many out there, it has the Cyrillic and English name for each town written on it. Although we're getting familiar with the towns now, to find exactly where we are we look at the signposts at the entrance / exit of each town, read the Cyrillic name and just find it on the map. The map we use is not much use as its zoomed out, so its like using a road atlas to navigate by, but it shows enough for us to get around fairly easily. Try doing that instead of having your netbook open perhaps? -
I've seen Zed's get things like that before, once so far I got shoved over by a Zed and instantly fell unconscious. They then feasted on my body and I died after a few minutes. Was quite a shock as I've never seen one push a Survivor over before or since!

Yeah, it was Vybor that I saw this happen earlier. Had been in Stary and found good loot, moved to Vybor and it was bare. Not to worry, I'll try again later. EDIT: Come to think of it, when I went to UK8 there was a vest-pouch in the market in Vybor, but that was the only thing there and in the school/office block next door. Odd how just the one thing was there.

What is it you want from Dayz?
Comcastle replied to Michaelvoodoo25's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Want? I didn't have to pay anything for this mod so I don't have a need to demand anything from it, I just play it for what it is, and enjoy the ride as things change. Been playing it for around two months now and seen a lot change already. It's not about 'wanting' anything from it, we're here to test the game and highlight the bugs, not whinge and moan because stuff breaks or we don't have this or that feature. I don't want anything other than to be able to keep playing it for what it is. -
Just been on UK6 and there's no loot at all, everything seemed to vanish as I was transiting from one town to the next. My mate reported the same and he was in Elektro. I tried UK8 and that was the same there, not even tin cans, just bare loot points. Anyone else having this issue? The servers seem to be emptying as well from what I can see...

Why is Barbwire Infront Of All the Big Places?
Comcastle replied to cowdung's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Stepping over the wire doesn't always work, it depends on how its set up. (I don't know what that way is, as I've yet to use wire) I've managed to step over some, but not others. I ended up getting trapped in a barn with two other guys who'd been able to use the steps inside to get over one length of wire, but then we had no way to get out again. Just couldn't step over it. Glitches in using the steps inside meant those two guys had broken legs and had to suicide to get out, and I was forced to server hop in order to get out of the barn again. -
Ah, I see what you mean now OP, I just came off a server that had the rain SFX but no actual rain GFX, but every zed and animal all around me had a white blob on them, just like what appears at the side of the screen. This was showing me all creatures in my vicinity, regardless of LoS.

Hatchet is overpowered but necessary
Comcastle replied to SpeechMan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Overpowered? Maybe I just need more practice, but I hated using them. Zeds have to be right in front of you hacking away at me whilst I'm hacking away at them. Every encounter I've had where I've used the hatchet and I've come away bleeding as the few chops it takes to put a zed down, they've grabbed me a few times in return. -
I thought the idea was that only you, the person who placed it, could access a tent - anyone else looking in it wouldn't see anything.
