  1. I agree. I do wonder if the player base has twisted the game into something it wasn't really intended to be, though I guess there's been some good lessons learnt from it. I know I'm hoping for a game that revolves around survival. If it doesn't turn out that way, so be it.

    I found something. (It's a burial site.)

It's a mass grave. Part of the first Arma2 campaign mission involves looking for evidence of war crimes iirc.

    Side Chat.

I'm not particularly interested in side chat in text form. I do like the idea of some kind of global communication so people can ask for assistance (or whatever else) in game rather than externally via this or other forums. The problem of course is whether or not it gets abused by some.

Why do YOU kill in DayZ?

I've neither killed another player nor even fired a shot at one. From a gameplay perspective I don't see any need to. I had a good oportunity last night but decided to move on So what does this mean? Are many people simply incapable of thinking outside of 'have gun must shoot people' or is it that they want to shoot people and migrate to any game where that's an option? Obviously there's a distinct lack of content in game so no doubt some are doing it just for something to do.
  5. Personally that's the opposite way I'd implement any kind of regeneration. I'd be more inclined to make it slow down as it approached 12000, but that's just me.
  6. I'm not opposed to the idea but I don't think it's necessary with the current mechanics for regaining blood. If transfusions gave a fixed amount (less than full) of blood and food gave nothing (or less than now) then I think there would be a place for regenerating blood. It should be pretty slow and at this stage I'd only link it to blood amount, and perhaps food/water - blood regen makes you hungry/thirsty faster or something.
  7. Personally I think that being a loan wolf (survivor) should be hard and being a loan wolf (bandit) even harder. In theory, at least at this point I like the idea of factions being the way to go for most people, provided most of it occurs in game rather than via external websites or VOIP. I’d like to see the game strongly encourage cooperation, for both survivors and bandits. Funny, I’m sure I’ve seen the opposite argument around here before where people claim it’s the survivors that want the tents for hoarding. No doubt there will be all manor of changes to the game as it progresses and new features are added, it remains to be seen what player actions are deemed to be contrary of the intent of the design. It’s going to be an interesting ride.
  8. Reductio ad absurdum. Ultimately though, I don't really care, I'll play the game as it is. I still think the idea of permanent death is integral to the game in terms of the emotional aspect Rocket likes to talk about in interviews. The more you can carry across from one life to the next the less you care about the death of your character. At least that's my point of view.
  9. Very true, but you'll never be able to access it again. Which is why I don't object to tents disappearing on death, when you die, you lose everything.
  10. My only thought at this stage is that they have too much storage space, I'd be inclined to remove the specific weapon and backpack slots and just leave the general storage (same for vehicles too). I don't object to them being destroyed on death.

    Next update video

So painful to watch. Interesting comments on the UI, the visibility and audibity icons are potentially too important to remove. I'm somewhat surprised.
  12. I wouldn't label it as a bad idea just yet, I want to test it out first, but I do wonder whether it's taking things too far. A UI may be gamey but if it remains the most effective way of communicating information to the player then leave it in.

    Thermal seekers

I wouldn't say it's a must but I'd be quite happy to see thermal sights removed from the game.

    Poll: Your status in Dayz

I have no issues and will continue to play, albiet only occasionally.
  15. I play on night servers fairly regularly, preferrably early hours of the morning when there's enough light to see but still enough darkness for a level of concealment. Pitch black servers are an interesting experience especially when you are making a small amount of noise even if crawling and can hear zombies but can't see them. Stopping even now and then to scan around with your torch hoping there isn't someone watching you.
  16. The frequency of killing in the game has had the opposite effect on me. I expect that in any encounter with another player will result in them trying to kill me, as a result this is the boring outcome in my eyes. Death is common, life is cheap and starting as a fresh respawn really isn’t the hassle it seemed when I first started playing – I no longer care with my character lives or dies. It’s kind of cheapened true banditry (“Your beans or your life.”) type encounters.

    Starting with/without a gun

I'm perfectly happy without it, I don't see it as a necessary starting item. Weapons are pretty easy to find in the game.

    Nice deathmatch you got there

The optimist in me expects this to change as the game and community matures. Otherwise I agree, bandits are a good thing in the game, pure PvP as the sole play-style, not so much. This might be a by-product of DayZ's popularity at the momment, for many it may simply be flavour of the month shooter.
  19. Let's try this before it's condemned as a bad idea. If it doesn't work out or results in unintended player behaviour then rethink the idea and/or it's implementation. I'm under the impression this is the entire point of the alpha version.
  20. I don't think it's too early, the sooner dogs are added the more time there is to iron out bugs related to them. I'm not convinced 'challenge' for the player is or even should be a priority at this stage.
  21. This all seems like a bit of an over-reaction to me. There's an awful lot of conclusion jumping going on based on speculative comments in an interview.
  22. I agree in general with the idea that people should not be punished for their chosen play-syle, however I don't consider alt-f4ing to be a play-style. If you want to run from a fight do it in game. Alt-f4ing is essentially quiting to avoid losing.
  23. I've been kicked for high ping (200-250) in similar situations, I don't have a problem with it. It would be nice if the ping limit was advertised in the server name so at least you knew in advance not to try and join those servers, I've seen this on a few NZ servers (ping limit of 100).
  24. I have no objections to the .50 cals being removed from the game though I don't necessarily think it's needed. If vehicles become more prevalent in later versions they could be re-added for anti-material purposes.
