Currently, if you're on a large large building and try to drop items to swap for whatever reason, light a fire, or start a chemlight. Neither the items will show up nor light up the area. I decided to test this by putting a chemlight and a backpack near the corner of a large building. Went down to the bottom and I saw the chemlight glow(though I couldn't pick up the chemlight myself as it was still at the top of the building) and pack. Personally, I think camping on top of towers if a vital part of that aspect of survival. Hanging with some Bandits? Light a fire on a roof and get some good sniping light so you don't fall off the bloody edge, all while being warm from the night cold. I typically camp a rooftop in Chern at night watching for bandits to kill to make it easier for Survivors to pass through but its impossible to see(Not an exaggeration... and the gamma trick doesn't work after a certain darkness level is reached) so I may fall off the edge. Just a little light to brighten my area instead of having to light a flare. Because for some reason, flares, the biggest target in the game, work just fine on a rooftop; fires and chemlights do not. On top of that, if you create a fireplace, it dissapears to the lowest possible elevation of flat surface you're allowed to build one on so you can't have a rooftop fire. Also, when up high in the sky, it's difficult to keep track of players because the game gets buggier the higher you go. This has happened to me multiple times in Chern but I'll be spotting someone and I see them go behind a isolated building; no way out without me seeing. I suddenly hear a gunshot and look in the direction, and to my surprise, the person just traveled 2-3 blocks without making a single appearance. Do note that I know the difference between lag and what I'm seeing. What I'm seeing is not lag because people I've invited to my rooftop report the same thing. They see someone dissapear behind a building and they suddenly appear somewhere else 20-30 seconds later without being seen at all.
