    help with scripts.txt syntax

I worked it out, it was something I have tried earlier, but I made a typo: createvehiclelocal !"createvehiclelocal getpos _house;"
  2. Hi All, I am about to set up dedicated server which will host DayZ (private hive). I already have a Arma 2 CO license key which I purchased on steam (and use to play as a client). Can this same key be used for the server, or does the server require a key in it's own right? (i.e. there will be a GUID clash when the server and client with the same key are run concurrently?). Also I plan to upload my own local copy of the files as I have my own tailored instance of a server running on my desktop. I confident about doing this myself when it comes to ports, needed, directory structure and so forth, but again, I am not sure about the license key? Would I need to make a registry entry that the armaOA server exectuionable will look up? Thanks! Luke

    Maps in DayZ

Here is a little thing about maps which I learned late and really did not know about. Place your mouse pointer over the location that you want to do go too, hold down shift + press the left mouse button and it will make a small marker. When you now exit the map there will be a marker on the screen which can be followed direct to your destination. it will also tell you the distance as a little counter of meters left to travel. I did not know about this so spent loads of time looking around for road signs, landmarks and lining up the compass (like you would in real life). EDIT: Just noted discombobulated already posted this above, so kudos there.

Hi Mate, I was on the server last night and met up with Lord Daem last night and we had a bit of adventure. I will be online again tonight, so will catch you then. Cheers, Luke

Looking for UK groups to suvive with.

Hey Darth269, I am mature player in Surrey and play most nights. I am not in a clan right now, but I have been part of organised teams before and played on gamebattle. I am currently hiding out in the woods up north, but I have GPS so I could come out to you or meet you half way. I will log into your server tonight too. Regards, Luke

Playing solo vs. playing with a team.

Yep, solo can't be beat really when it comes to pure heart pumping exhilaration. A lot of players find this to unnerving and so they horde gear and take solace in numbers. That feeling when you creep your way into the supermarket holding your breath to find a gun and a few other bits and then make a mad adrenaline fuelled dash to the woods - 'yes! I made it, I am still alive!!'. That's what the game does best.

    PVP

There are many variations to PvP. Two scavengers unexpectedly meeting while desperately trying to find food and one hatchets the other over a can of beans is understandable. Two veterans meeting in forest who are wary of bandits and human contact, so one decides 'It's not going to be me'. A clan situated at camp see three heavily armed bandits encroaching upon there territory, its going to do down and kick off. Someone who just sits for hours on end 'pwning' new players coming from the coast into Cherno, is just being an asshole. Hopefully they will follow the heard and move onto a new game soon.

    Question

If you get DayZ Commander if allows you to open the game within steam (there is a tickbox under the settings section). That way you can pull up the steam browser and chat with friends. DayZ commander is also a good way of installing the Mod and keeping it up to date. Other then above the DayZ servers are completely seperate to the steam network. You don't see steam users on the DayZ servers. If you need to find your friends within game, then you all need to login to the same DayZ server and find each other using a Map.

    Should I just shoot everyone?

I am always super careful of approaching pairs of two or greater. They are more likely to turn on you as they have the bravado of being with their buddies. They are of course exception to the rules, but generally they already have someone for companionship and to watch their back, that results in you getting killed without to much thought and they can joke and laugh it off afterwards. So if I do approach it tends to be to individuals and I prefer to initiate contact without them seeing me at first. That way I can chat to them and find out a little about them, what country / city do they live in, how long have they been playing the game. This way it makes it a lot more personal and they are less likely to kill you (unless they are an autistic or psychopath). I then approach them, let things get to ease and then let my guard down a bit. If its an unexpected counter out of nowhere, to be honest, I will likely kill them, or at least have my sights settled right into the middle of their head.
