I don't want to live in Chernarus anymore.
septuscap replied to Jackftw's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why would you turn your back on a random stranger with a gun who has sat in silence while you tried to communicate? -
How about you say "friendly" BEFORE you stick your head in front of his gun? It amazes me how stupid survivors are in this game.

I had a zed chasing me, I just ran through the trees and lost it. Just full sprint through the forest; the zed will stop running every time it loses LoS. Yea it'll hear you and chase again but each time it loses LOS you'll gain distance while it stops for a second and then re-acquires you based on sound. Eventually you'll just lose it completely, it took me maybe 10 seconds. Edit: Haven't tried enough 1.7.2 to know if aggro is fucked though.

Unless we get flags/effects for murder, this game will just be Deathmatch.

Why would I be excited to meet and befriend a bad player? Most of the people I spot are exactly that. I don't want them in my group in the first place. -
What MineZ is Doing Right, and What DayZ Could Learn From It.
septuscap replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If I'm low on ammo and I see another player, I'd pop in the head for his ammo. That is how full loot works. I already HAVE my group, there is no reason for me to take the risk of trying to befriend you. Especially if I spot you a mile away b/c you're running on the fucking road, why would I want some one like that in my group. -
What I think is really making people angry at this game.
septuscap replied to JinxX's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Says the guy in a CLAN. :D You don't *need* a group, but starting with one really allows you to do things that you CAN'T do while solo. This includes having overwatch while you approach that stranger you encounter. It's really that simple. When people come onto the forums and refuse to do even that, you know that they're really just annoyed that some one else took their shinies. -
Why Does Everyone Complain About Being Killed
septuscap replied to seemingepic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you're dying without even getting a weapon, you're doing it wrong. RE: OP, people aren't used to full loot -- a decade of ez mode gaming has turned people into complete crybabies. You're not entitled to your gear, this game is not about keeping your progress forever, it's about keeping it for as long as you can against the world. -

What MineZ is Doing Right, and What DayZ Could Learn From It.
septuscap replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The reason MineZ has more "friendly" play has nothing to do with the community. You simply have more time to assess the situation when your opponent is wielding a sword. You can keep relatively close to some one and still defend yourself if he turns on you. That simply does not work in a shooter. Look at the stat board. There aren't very many bandits. Most people are just randomly running into other players and shooting to stay alive because letting the OTHER guy take the first shot means you're dead. Rocket has already said he's going to introduce cave/tunnel building for survivors to make cities and the like, and I'm sure it'll lead to awesome scenarios. Your venomous hatred is just not founded on reality. You're Don Quixote, and bandits are your windmill. -

septuscap replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
He's arguing just to argue man, people like him never make sense. He'll live in some delusion where there was less banditry with bandit skins, less backstabbing, and where sidechat actually helped survivors (and not the bandits who zeroed in on morons). Stats be damned. -
The reason why it's "shoot on sight"
septuscap replied to SillySil's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You're an idiot. The game already incentivizes teamwork, and it changes nothing. I've seen so many idiots say this I'm sick and tired of it. Bandits TEAM up with their clans and reap the benefits and continue KOS'ing. -

De-Evolution of the Human Race
septuscap replied to apolyonic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Most people who cry and complain do so because they're shot without any idea where they're shot from. They assume it's some sniper at 1800m but usually it's just some one who's been stalking you and concealing themselves really well. I usually kill from 100m or less and my mark usually never has a clue until they get shot in the head. I would say my way of playing is FAR safer than walking up to a random with a gun and saying "HI THERE FRIENDLY?" and then turning my BACK ON THE GUY and letting him shoot me in the head. I'm sure you read the follow-up sentence to the one you quoted where I described how you SHOULD approach strangers in this game (ie. don't be a fucking idiot). -

The reasons to be nice should be made by the players themselves. Clearly right now' date=' human nature is playing out -- people grouped up with those they trust, and KOS others. <- read that wiki article, you might learn something. If you want to help newbies on the coast with meds, then DO IT. If you want to set up a checkpoint along high traffic paths to kill bandits and help survivors, then DO IT. If you want to set up a trade city which will offer huge incentives to non-bandits, then DO IT. If you want to play on a server where various groups/tribes/etc actually interact with each other, then DO IT. I'm sure we'll see better base building features, radios, etc. But none of that will change the fact that you're a bad player. This game has a pretty high skill ceiling in terms of tactics & strategy, and it's not going to hold your hand and punish the sniper that shot you while you stood still in an open field. -
Lol nobody makes a living wage off of streaming/youtubing video games, regardless of what they told you on IRC. Did you misquote me? It wouldn't keep your character in-game after d/c' date=' it is an animation (like using bandages) that you would do before you log out. That way if you're legitimately logging out, you have no issues, but if your group is taking fire you don't all just insta-log, you have to sit there making your bed for 10+ seconds and you'll be killed. No you let people d/c and ghost behind you. You let people play wrecklessly because they can simply d/c if things go south. You lose loot that you should've gotten. You have entire groups just d/c'ing at the sound of gunfire. And I presume you're one of these people d/c'ing to save your gear and then crying here that it shouldn't be taken out.

Since you seem like the pro-active type' date=' I'll re-post this for you. Don't listen to the crybabies, there are survivors and bandits alike doing really cool things, though you'd never know it based on the whine coming from the 99% of people running around like idiots dying (which I guess accurately represents real-life disasters :D) Repost: Wild West Server (does all the work for you, go interact "meaningfully") Wasteland Medics Freeside Trading Co, join survivors, trade, help set up a city Survivor Checkpoint between Cherno and Elektro These are a few of the more unique things being done. There are also numerous anti-bandit clans, survivor clans, clans that help new spawns with morphine/blood/food/soda/water, solo players who avoid players via stealth, etc. And if you must meet strangers in-game, do it like you would in a real zombie apocalypse. You wouldn't just walk up to a guy with a gun and yell "HI THERE FRIENDLY?" Keep some degree of cover while you initiate conversation. Have a friend on overwatch in case the situation goes bad. Test the waters; turn your back and use alt-look to see where he's aiming, chat him up and see if his responses lag like he's also talking in some VOIP (with his REAL group), see if he's trying to lead you into a trap. Granted, there could be more features implemented to help survivors make cities, establish communication via radio, leave "posters" in-game advertising player cities, friendly clan protocols, meeting points/times for friendlies, etc. so you don't have to meta, but joining the right server + TS really isn't asking too much (or any more than the meta required to check the server lobby for an open-but-full server with decent ping) -
Logging out to avoid a serverhopper.
septuscap replied to The Poacher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The best solution I've heard to ghosting is to not let some one reconnect to server A after having d/c'ed from server A and connected to server B. Maybe put a 30 minute cooldown before they can reconnect to server A. The only time I've legitimately had to do this was when I had my tent on server A, but the admins kept taking the server down for days at a time, so the next time I saw it up I just moved all my shit from server A to server B. But aside from that I can't think of a real use-case for letting people hop between two servers repeatedly; 90% of the time it's probably a ghost. More importantly though, logging out should take 30seconds+ and should have an animation (kind of like when you're bandaging, making a fireplace, etc). It'd be nice if you saw the player setting up a bed and knew it meant he was logging out. -
