vehicle "hoarding", what the hell is it?

I wouldn't mind more vehicles of all types, I think it would create more interesting scenarios, like potential vehicle ambushes, or driving your vehicle right into a combat area to pick up a buddy who's pinned down (since you could always pick up another vehicle later if things don't go well). At the moment they're mostly used to just ferry people long distances through low traffic routes.

Except as anyone who actually plays the game will tell you (and by play I don't mean just running along the roads like a fucking moron), you run into camps OFTEN. I've stolen many vehicles, and had 1 or 2 stolen from me. This is like the newbie complaining that he doesn't start with an AS50, and that he has every right to the weapon just by virtue of checking Cherno for loot. You're a shit player, get better.

    Friendly?

I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing more of that in the future as more features are implemented. Most "friendlies" simply find it too difficult at the moment, or are too stupid to approach a stranger while having a buddy on overwatch, or staying behind cover while conversing, etc. Hopefully base building will let a few intelligent survivors keep an area safe for the masses of morons who want to socialize but can't figure out how.

    Why this mod is failing

Of course it doesn't stop their banditry. But you won the encounter. If you don't like that bandits are coming for you, then this just isn't the game for you, PERIOD.

    Why this mod is failing

Actually the players in the last 24h is ~200k. Whether that's the same 200k playing every day, or different portions of the ~1million "unique ID's" playing every so often, who knows. I think rocket is adding the first real step forward for social players in base building. You can set up a legitimate defense that bandits can't ghost behind, and use it as a safe ground for friendlies to meet up, socialize, pick up groups, etc. As for bandits bandits bandits, most people I kill AREN'T bandits, I get very few bandit kills (and this is up north). Even when I was on the coast, most kills weren't bandits except for the occasional sniper in cherno that actually gave me a bandit kill. It is true though that most non-bandits AVOID other players, as opposed to be sociable, because it's not worth the risk. Player cities and the like will probably give them that outlet.
  6. If you're prone right next to a tree and try to turn into the branches, it'll kill you.
  7. People are ALREADY grouping. The addition of one more person to your group is NOT worth the risk of backstabbing from a stranger. That's literally what it comes down to. I might TRADE with a stranger with a buddy on overwatch, staying behind cover, etc, but I simply could not trust the guy to stay with our group and not betray us.

    Why this mod is failing

First off, there is a lot to do in the way of PvP, from stalking players and having them lead you back to their camp, to defending your own; fighting over territory, vehicles, and loot. There is a huge "game of thrones" being played in that regard on many servers, usually until the losing side breaks and changes servers. It's pretty fucking exciting. But you're right, as a PvE player, there's nothing to do once you're kitted out. You can't make a player city, or secure one of the actual cities from zombies and "take it back," or craft in-game items (with perma-death, you'd get a lot of players skilling up just one skill and trading their product with others), etc. But I think rocket is working on those facets as we speak (starting with base building), so your argument is really moot in that regard. Obviously the game's still in development. Regarding "friendly" play, it's your fault. You're too stupid to figure out how to approach a stranger, simply put. You've probably never even had overwatch as you wander through a city like an idiot. But you're right, you can't just wander up to some random with a gun and go "HI THERE IM FRIENDLY, U?"

Is everyone in DayZ like this?

The "bandits" are accomplishing way more in this game than survivors, that's just a fact. Maybe grouping up with some one and fighting zombies is a challenge for you, but if you're not a complete fucking idiot, it's not. PvP is the interesting facet for most people in this game. (or in the case of killing new spawns, "hunting the most dangerous game")

    Friendly?

Most of the people I encounter don't give me bandit kills, but murders. But everyone I encounter KOS'es. This leads me to believe that most people simply avoid other players for the most part. That's as close to friendly as you're going to get really, no one's going to risk their beans saying "HI U FRIENDLY?"

I'm tired of not finding vehicles

No my point was since death would reset your skills, you would rather just train one skill and make a lot of that product. Then trade around for all the other stuff you need.

    Suicide

I don't see how it eases any strain. Most of my group still kills themselves off just as many times, you just need to find the closest zombie and let him nom on you, or jump off a building. I'm sure most people are doing exactly this, so you're getting the same # of respawns as before.

    We found you and......

That's not true, I've seen a couple of vague messages that referred to my group, although no one would even know it. I've also seen posts ABOUT my group (where the OP didn't even intend to call us out, just used it anecdotally) and recognized they were talking about me. Maybe you should do something worth being mentioned about and see a post about it made by some one else. It warms your heart.

Good post, the unwashed masses need to know there's more to the game than soda and beans.

Is everyone in DayZ like this?

I think the allowance for PvP is what has caused this mod to skyrocket in popularity. It's the *only* persistent game that has told PvE players to go play another game if they can't handle bandits (which is a brave stance considering the mass of PvE players out there). I think if we create content for PvE players, we will keep the type we want. People who enjoy the thrill of bandits, but prefer not to be bandits themselves (similar to people who play EVE to trade goods instead of blow up other ships). Maybe let players craft components, and out of components finished goods. Let players defend a plot of land (incoming with base building?), and create their own laws; admit strangers or keep the area for yourself. GROW food on land assuming you can shuttle the water required. Develop contacts with other player camps and trade goods for various parties who trust you but not each other (or just try to defend a trade city and let players meet up and trade for themselves -- probably not as feasible since strangers could just molest my backpack). Let players "lock" their packs when near strangers, holster their weapons when in player cities, etc. But DON'T kill the thing that is lifting this mod to 1 million+ players. Sandbox PvP.

I'm tired of not finding vehicles

Most vehicles aren't hidden that far out of the way. But you won't find any if you're one of those morons who runs on ROADS completely visible to everyone. RE: your idea though I do think it'd be cool to have a crafting system for in-game items as well. Not just as an end in itself, but also to (if made correctly) create more incentives for trade and socialization (assuming base building allows relatively safe havens for strangers to interact). Say I train a skill to make gunpowder, you train a skill to make bullets, and some other guy makes meds. Well you might make gunpowder and trade with the bulletsmith who pays you with meds (who he gets from the doc for finished ammo). Sure some players may try to train ALL skills, but life is short in Chernarus, and death starts you back at zero.

If you want a vehicle, take it. If you can't, you don't deserve one.

I'm tired of not finding vehicles

You can't find vehicles because you suck at the game. People who know what they're doing are running into vehicles, fighting other groups, and moving camps.

    Remove Wire Fences POLL

My main issue is that even if you cut them down, they come back after a server restart. So eventually you just get barbed wire EVERYWHERE, and it's extremely annoying. And let's be real, the only actual use is for server hoppers to fence off a loot spawn on multiple servers and hop between. LOL at the guy who uses wire fencing to make a "camp."

Is everyone in DayZ like this?

Trusting randoms is a stupid thing to do. If you want help in this game, you're going to have to meta and find a group on the forums, etc. The thing is, there is very little advantage for a group to take in a complete stranger, and HUGE risk of being backstabbed. That said, most people definitely just play with their own group and treat everyone else as enemies. The end-game is definitely territorial PvP more than anything else. I think the introduction of base building (with bottleneck entrances) will allow for more varied play -- player cities, hospitals, etc. We'll see.

    What happened here?

I wasn't referring to the OP, I was referring to "most people." The reflexive assumption is that a hacker done it. Also in the second video his buddy who "put 6 shots into the guy" cries hacker immediately, when the guy obviously just walked right through the front door, killed the OP, and subsequently killed his 2 buddies. Also the OP's group ran a clinic on how NOT to play the game, huddled together spending WAY too much time in wide open spaces, etc. No doubt the enemy used 3rd person to look "around" the doorway and saw them on the roof, and then again at the entrance to the building the OP was in. (why I hate 3rd person, but that's another thread)

    What happened here?

I couldn't help notice that you were completely vulnerable to a shot from the hospital roof. I don't think the teleporting on spawn had anything to do with a hacker, just a bug with the hive atm, I've seen it before. As for who you were shot by and where from, could have been the hospital roof or some one who ghosted behind you. There is also the possibility that there was another group already there and some one was already on the top floor, did you have the whole building secured? I just think too many people cry hacker when the answer is completely obvious. Back when sidechat was enabled, I used to kill a lot of people who were completely oblivious only to see them cry hacker in global.

Killed by furniture and a doorframe.

Hilarious level of fanboism. YOU MEAN YOU TRIED TO TURN WHILE PRONE UNDER THAT TREE? OF COURSE YOU'D DIE IRL.

    Bring Side Chat BACK!

I never used in-game voice/chat (stick to group voip), but I don't see how you come to that conclusion. Side chat helped newbies ask questions, helped survivors find each other (at their own risk of course), etc. Direct chat is beyond useless, you have to be *way* too close for them to see it, and you can't know for sure whether they saw it or not (imo there should be a direct chat with a fairly wide radius so you can be sure some one sees it, plus a whisper for when you want ONLY the guy next to you to see it). I feel sorry for the people actually trying to play with randoms without 3rd party apps, shit is beyond broken.

Removing 1 problem makes 10 more.

Honestly I doubt it'll have any affect. Instead of hitting respawn players will run into whatever city they spawned at and kill themselves. So maybe you've slowed them down 10 seconds between respawns. They're still going to respawn as many TIMES as before.
