On Game Theory and the Logic of Bandit Identifiers
septuscap replied to bazbake's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Your odds are completely manufactured though. What about the fact that encounters aren't dice rolls? Outcomes are dictated by preparedness, caution, stealth, etc, not just 50/50 dice rolls. What about the fact that survivor/PvE playstyles are LESS risky? In order to play as a bandit you have to constantly put yourself in PvP situations and come out on top. To play as a survivor you can use low traffic areas to survive, AVOID other players (far easier than killing them), and remain concealed. When using stats, you have to realize that they are dominated by the majority who suck at the game, and no game should be designed around that demographic. The only thing bandit identifiers would help with are survivors who are trying to decide whether to BREAK concealment and greet a random stranger they would otherwise have the jump on. I think we should wait and see if base building allows for survivors to meet up in-game before bringing back bandit skins and having survivors spamming qq's about self defense again. I honestly don't think BANDITS are really opposed to them -- as a bandit myself it honestly felt like earning my stripes, and others in my group would mock you for NOT having the bandit skin. -
I never realized how many hackers there were.
septuscap replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
it's rarer for me to have a play session where I *don't* see a hacker. And I'm not talking about hacked in gear, I'm talking about blatant teleport hacks. -
Lingor Island to be the next official map release? Clearly the people want it!
septuscap replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I don't give enough of a shit to take screenshots of the "players in last 24h" stat on the main page, but it went from 200k to 180k; also this was starting from an INCREASING trend, so it SHOULD have gone up to 210k+ and instead fell to 180k. New uniques seems to still be rising via word of mouth etc, meaning there is less (read: no) retention, AND longtime players are quitting. -
Some people realize a bad UI when they see one. Others keep sucking BIS off and ask for seconds.

septuscap replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The "players in last 24h" is declining. That's not even including people like me who still log in nearly daily but don't really play like they used to (maybe hop on for 10 minutes before a hacker comes by and then realizing I'm an idiot for even trying and logging off). -
Every one I kill thinks I'm a hacker...
septuscap replied to Kriptz1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So you're sniping people with a DMR yet you can see their direct chat? I call bullshit. -
Another fanboy defending the shitty game that is ARMA with DAYZ's alpha status.
-
It's emblematic of ALL environmental interaction in the game though. Arma is broken (and insanely hackable). It's sad that DayZ, a great game, is being fucked because the devs of ArmA couldn't fix blatant issues THREE YEARS AFTER RETAIL.

Hackers - What you need to know.
septuscap replied to DarkRaven123's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is NO reason to EVER trust the client other than sloppy coding. Period. BIS made a shitty game because they were the only racket in town for milsim and could get away with it, and now it's biting them in the ass. -
Vehicles shouldn't be rare. Let the experiment continu.
septuscap replied to daedrick's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have tons of vehicles but I agree with you. Right now they're only used for the SAFEST of missions, like going to low traffic cities to refuel, or ferrying people through low traffic areas (always hiding them before going into any high traffic areas). TENTS should be hidden, VEHICLES should be USED. Hide your fuel, hide your weapons, hide your tents, USE your vehicles -- the game would be a lot more exciting if player A was pinned down and his buddy just drove up, gave him cover with his vehicle while he hopped in, and then tried to haul ass out of town. Currently player A's life is worth less than the vehicle you'd risk to save him. -
I'll take assholes over idiots any day, sorry. If you say something stupid, you deserve what you get.

Just teleported me to the middle of nowhere. Just general fyi so you don't join that server tonight.

Yay, Bandit and Hero identifiers are coming in
septuscap replied to tuleg1t's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Length of time without killing people? bandit kills? and to a lesser extent, helping randoms with morphine/blood/painkillers/bandages? (Assuming you build a sort of karma tolerance helping the same person over and over -- ie. the game realizes he's just a clan mate, not you actually helping a stranger) -
Arma2 is a shitty bug infested game. Pretty much everyone I brought to DayZ couldn't get over how bad it was (they just put up with it for the persistent sandbox elements of dayz). They ignored security and while hacking isn't an issue when you're playing vanilla arma with your buddies, it completely ruins DayZ. Admin server logs aren't even encrypted so they can track everything on a given server. Hacking, admin abuse, and vanilla arma bugs make the game barely playable, and fanboys will quickly defend ARMA'S bugs with DAYZ'S alpha status. Honestly? Just wait for another company to do it right.

Are there vehicle location hacks? or admin abuse here?
septuscap replied to lnfighter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
admins can read logs and they do have info of locations of loot/vehicles/tents/players. Hackers are required to teleport/thunderdome/inventory-hack/insta-kill/invis/invincible/etc. Both are issues, one can be solved by rocket. The other will bury this game. -
[From a bandit] You suck, your attitude is wrong and need to GTF over it
septuscap replied to Creambomb's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is nothing else to do. Your examples are pretty fucking retarded and a waste of time imo. Fuck with unarmed newbies? No thanks. -

Is the banning appeal forum useless?
septuscap replied to Wirblewind's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You're an idiot. It can be 100% for what it DOES catch, but still let a whole lot of hacks through (which you can see it does). Again, just saying "false positive" doesn't mean false positives are possible. -
Is the banning appeal forum useless?
septuscap replied to Wirblewind's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
depending on what battle eye does, it may be 100% accurate. False positives occur when there is a possibly innocent action that leaves the same footprint as a hack/virus/etc. Just saying "false positive" doesn't mean it's possible. -
Damn Hackers (Video Included)
septuscap replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Like rocket said, vote with your wallet. Don't buy anything else from BIS until they learn how to code. -
Each time my group gets hit by hackers, I see them talking about which game to play next. Just tonight it felt like the talk was more serious and I feel like it's just a matter of time now. Rocket hit on something fun, but picking Arma to run it on was a mistake. RIP DayZ.

How about you be wary of your surroundings and avoid people armed to the teeth? Oh wait that's right you're supposed to be able to just run around in the wide open yelling "FRIENDLY SOME ONE GIVE ME GUN PLZZZZ"
-
Good devs can make stuff cleaner, better, and faster. War Z seems to have pulled some pretty good talent. ArmA devs have made a buggy piece of shit with a UI that could be show cased in a "HOW NOT TO DO ANYTHING" class.
-
Since I'm a bandit, I treat anyone I find as prey anyway, and share the spoils with my buddy bandits. But if I was offered cash reward for playing as a friendly for a bit and showing that it's possible, I'd be able to do it easily. Because I'm not a complete fucking moron like most friendlies.

If that's your experience, you're a scrub, plain and simple. If you're playing this more like an MMO, your main concerns should be who is locking down which parts of the map, what any player you spot is doing, where he might lead you, finding a niche for yourself on your given server, etc.
