Yep, hackers can make your guy do things you don't want him to do. It's been around a while, but I guess the novelty of nuking and thunderdoming is wearing off so we're onto strutting the funky chicken. At least it's fairly harmless :)

banned from de7 no reason NOT GLOBAL
tomfin replied to sqabble's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hi Sqabble, I'm not an admin for DE7 but I help out with the steam community group and can pass this along to the server admins for you. Could you post your in-game name and the exact time (including timezone) that this happened? There has been a case where a player was mistakenly banned because they landed in the slot of a someone who used Alt-F4 to escape. If something like this has happened give as much detail about the incident as possible and you'll be unbanned ASAP. If you prefer you can send a private message directly to Throbin (Server Owner) through the DayZmod website. Here's his profile: http://dayzmod.com/f...r/9103-throbin/ Please be patient, he's not always online and available. Thanks! -
Continuity's spot on, but add www.aria.co.uk to that list of online shops. eBuyer give free shipping to most UK destinations, but so will many other shops when you're spending £400 all at once. You might want to talk to the sales people at Aria and eBuyer over the phone, they can often custom-build a PC to better spec than an off the shelf machine like the Dell and for the same price. It'll come with less crapware preloaded on it too. Ebuyer have a couple of lower-priced gaming PCs. eBuyer's Zoostorm at £402.61 is a little better than your Argos Dell and Amazon Graphics card, at just £20 more. GFX card might need a boost, so see if they'll swap it out for something beefier. Aria also have a decent enough range with the nearest being £449, and is reasonably okay. Try for a quad core CPU at 3.0Ghz or better, and 4 or 8gb of RAM. Should be doing okay after that. An Nvidia GTX 560, or an ATi HD 5850/6870 or better will see you right, but expect to pay around £100 or more for those cards. You can work out which graphics cards give you the best bang for buck with the help of Tom's Hardware Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart. Just so you know, I have Dual Core at 2.5ghz, 8GB and a single Radeon HD 5770. It's nothing like as good as pretty much everyone else who's playing DayZ, but I can scrape by between 20 and 40fps. Almost anything you buy around £450 is going to be better than mine :) Don't expect DayZ to run perfectly on any kind of hardware yet, especially if you want to live in a city. Drops to 11fps are not uncommon for people who are running two GTX 560s in SLI. Performance will improve as it becomes more stable.

To the chumps who Alt F4 and abort.
tomfin replied to tandwan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's ongoing. There was an attempt at fixing it in 1.7.1.x but was revoked because of engine limitations. I expect it'll migrate from "must have" to "nice to have" in the Arma2 mod version, and will be addressed properly in the now-confirmed standalone DayZ in September. @Mariote: Yeah, I quite agree. There is a distinction between simply bugging out from a developing situation you don't like and exploiting disconnection to avoid death. I've heard nearby voices on Direct Comms close to the end of an evening's play, and decided "Yep, you know what... I'm going to leave now before any shooting starts." IMHO that's a fair enough way to avoid contact, if you want to. Starting something you can't finish and escaping scot-free is an exploit, as is "server-hopping" or "ghosting" to a more favourable location to rejoin a fight. -
To the chumps who Alt F4 and abort.
tomfin replied to tandwan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
http://dayzmod.com/f...ath/#entry69683 There we go :) Edit: I don't feel strongly about a need for disconnect timers or other logout mechanisms other than I would prefer not to see them at all, because the real world often requires that we drop games quickly. Ask anyone with poor connectivity, a telephone, a front door, or a baby; quick exits are sometimes required or forced upon us. But what we have here are people actively exploiting a mechanism to dodge unfavourable outcomes that they brought upon themselves. I've never needed to Alt-F4 from combat (in fact I was puzzled by it for many weeks as Alt-F4 does nothing in my ARMA until I'm back on the title screen), but I've never needed it because I don't go round shooting at people for a laugh with a chance to regret the decision when they might shoot back. I'm all for logging Alt-F4 behaviour and punishing repeat offenders appropriately, just don't go spoiling things for those of us who have other reasons to disconnect in a hurry. Combat is just fine for those of us who are playing it straight. -
And people say DayZ has no endgame... ;)

bad serial number given during setup
tomfin replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
With Steam version you may need to run Steam as Administrator one time, to properly install your serial keys for ARMA2 and OA. http://dayzmod.com/f...se/#entry502428 More help with installing HERE at the DayZWiki and in all good Google searches. Follow ODoyleRulez suggestion - you probably don't need to update Battleye, and it's probably not related to the problem you're having. Click this spoiler button to see how if you want to do it later: -
Global ban (NOT AN APPEAL) or complaint
tomfin replied to PotatoChip's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Okay, since Legacy and Vipeax are on board with this thread, here we go... First, uninstall whatever caused you to be banned the first time. Seriously. Get rid of it all, you don't need it and we don't need it :) Suspenselol is correct, give him some beans. I'm assuming you're on Win7 64bit or Vista 64bit. Two options to clean up before using your new copy. 1) Use the freeware Revo Uninstaller to uninstall ARMA 2 OA and clean out your registry of all Bohemia Interactive registry entries. OR 2) Open regedit, and manually delete the following folders from your Windows registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bohemia Interactive HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bohemia Interactive Studio Right-click Steam and "Run as Admin". Log into your original dirty account, and install ARMA 2. Launch it once to perform first-time setup and write your original ARMA 2 keys to registry. Exit ARMA 2, exit Steam. Now right-click Steam and "Run as Admin" again, this time logging into your new clean account. Install ARMA 2 OA from scratch and launch it one time to do the initial setup and write your new OA keys to the registry. Exit ARMA, exit Steam. Your keys should now be written and you can launch ARMA/DayZ from either Steam account, Six Launcher, or DayZ commander. It doesn't care where your ARMA executable comes from or which steam account is logged in, all Battleye cares about are those registry keys. You'll find more info on cleaning out registry here and in all good forum searches, use the methods for playing with multiple DayZ accounts. I haven't personally done any of this but it seems to work just fine for other people. Please try real hard not to be one of the 90% of hackers who go back to cheating, I wasted more than several minutes writing this up for you. Thanks! -
Bought Arma 2 CO and getting wrong cd key

Take it up with Battleye support. Don't know how much traction you'll get there but be polite, be efficient, and have a plan to buy another copy of ARMA2OA. http://www.battleye.com/support.html Can kinda see where you're coming from that you might want to unlock cars or somesuch in TDU as it's primarily singleplayer, but I suppose there is a still a TDU multiplayer component to potentially cheat at. You'd be far better off downloading a TDU save game with 100% complete and money galore. Do your peeking and poking in a VM or on another computer, if you really must. I've known someone who was GUID-banned by Punkbuster for leaving Daemon Tools running in the background while playing Call Of Duty 2 many years ago, and PB support pretty much ignored everything on the support ticket regarding that and left them twisting in the wind. Maybe you'll have more luck with BE but don't expect any miracles. Just explain it all to them politely, and make sure you're telling the whole truth all the way, and hope that their records agree with what you're telling them. If you're out of luck you'll probably have to chalk it up to experience, buy a new copy of A2OA and uninstall this Cheat Engine or be more careful in the future. Better safe than sorry. I really want to believe you, but just in case you're pulling a fast one... don't use hacks. Duh :)

Help needed with RAMDisk: can't find/ create disk after soft reset.
tomfin replied to WhatNow's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Oh ye of little faith. This is something I'd considered with my slow HDD but 8GB of fast RAM, your post prompted me to have a go. I suspect you're having a problem because it's colliding with your optical drive's letter at system startup so there are instructions on how to change the drive letter below. I've just set up a 4GB RamDisk with the help of instructions I found here and here. I used DataRAM Ramdisk's freeware "personal use" version for a RamDisk up to 4GB in size which is automatically populated when logging into Windows. After installing Dataram RamDisk, run the RAMDisk Configuration Utility from your start menu. I set mine to the maximum of 4092mb and selected a FAT32 partition. Start the Ramdisk by clicking the button. Leave this window open, we'll come back to it. After the Ramdisk drivers have installed the drive should shows up in My Computer. Now would be a good time to format it however you'd like (I left mine as FAT32) and rename it to something more useful, e.g. "RAMDISK". Now open up the Computer Management control panel (Start menu, Run command, "compmgmt.msc" or simply type "Computer Management" in the start menu search box). Click on the "DIsk Management" snap-in on the left column. Right click on your Ramdisk, and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths". Click on the drive letter, select "Change..." and pick a new drive letter, for example R: (for Ramdisk). It's a good idea to pick something far away from C:, D: and E: to allow some room to avoid other drive letter collisions; for example if you leave a USB disk plugged in at startup it'll be assigned the next available letter after your hard disk and optical drives. Now populate your Ramdisk. I copied my @DayZ folder, and created another folder called @RAM. Create another folder called "addons" in the @RAM folder, this is where your PBO files will go. Don't forget to copy the corresponding BIKEYfiles along with your PBOs. I copied the following files into my R:\@RAM\addons\ folder: These might not be optimal. I'll leave it for others to suggest the most frequently accessed PBO files DayZ uses, which would be most valuable to access from RAM. Most of these files were listed in the guide I linked to above. Now go back to the RAMDisk Configuration Utility. Click on the "Load and Save" tab. Now that you've populated your ramdisk, click the button marked "Save Disk Image Now". The image will take a few moments to be saved to your C: drive. N.B. I'm assuming you DON'T have an SSD as your Windows system disk. If you do, it would be better to change the image file location to a drive other than your system disk to prevent unecessary write-wear on the SSD when you save the ramdisk image. Now check the box for "Load on Startup". Go to the File menu, and click "Save Settings". That's it. You'll probably notice a delay in logging into windows as the Ramdisk will be populated with your saved disk image each time you boot. Finally, you need to tell Arma where to get the files from. If you used R: for your ramdrive, change the -mod=@DayZ line in your program shortcut to -mod=R:\@RAM;R:\@DayZ That should point Arma to the @DayZ and @RAM folders you created in the Ramdrive earlier. When you update DayZ, you'll need to copy the @DayZ folder from your ARMA2OA to the ramdisk and manually save the Ramdisk image again. If you don't want to do that each time, don't bother copying the @DayZ folder to the ramdisk and just use -mod=R:\@RAM;@DayZ in your ARMA2 shortcut instead. In that case the DayZ code will be loaded from disk, the PBO files you copied will come from ram. Most of the info I found relating to Ramdisks with Arma was a couple of years old at best and some notes indicated that the current beta patches reduce the need for this kind of setup. I noticed a modest decrease in load times and slight decrease in stuttering when moving into new areas of Chernarus. I'm not sure if I'll keep using it, but your mileage may be better. tl;dr - Buy an SSD. They're getting cheap at around £70/$100 for 120gb. Also check out Symbolic Links AKA Directory Junctions here, here and here. Probably be useful for both ramdisk and SSD users. Good luck. Edit: Spoiler tags are converting the images to clickable links instead of hiding them. Will maybe fix that in the morning. -
NEED HELP PLEASE bad cd key i have skype please
tomfin replied to The SLAP Train's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Are you using the Steam version of Combined Operations with Win7 or Vista? If so, first exit Steam. Now run Right-Click Steam and "Run as Administrator". Launch ARMA 2 once, then exit ARMA 2. Launch Operation Arrowhead once, then exit OA. That should complete first-time setup correctly for each and activate your serial keys. Now exit Steam, and reload Steam normally. If you're having problems getting the Beta to load, the easiest thing to do is use DayZ Commander. Go into the DayZCommander options and check the boxes for "Use Steam" and "Replace Steam exe with Beta exe". That should take care of it. -
No problem. I'll watch the topic for a couple of days, if there are no more posts I'll assume you got it working. Happy trails!
-
Yup. You'll have to perform the uninstall or remove the key from the registry on his machine as he's the one using your CD key. You don't need to cancel the download if you've already uninstalled on his machine. Use the regedit method to remove the ARMA2OA registry key before running the game for the first time from Steam, which should reinstall with the correct info. Edit: If you want to be sure or have problems when installing, right-click and delete to remove the "Bohemia Interactive Studio" and "Bohemia Interactive" folders in RegEdit. That should clear it out for a fresh install. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bohemia Interactive HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bohemia Interactive Studio Registry editor is arcane magic, but if you only operate on the Bohemia Interactive folders you should minimise the risk to your system.

You'll have to get him to perform the following actions to remove your CD Keys from his Windows Registry. Simple but time consuming: Uninstall ARMA2OA using a tool like Revo Uninstaller (free) to clean out any left over registry entries, then reinstall. More complex but faster: Delete the following registry key using RegEdit, and reinstall: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 OA More info on messing with ARMA2OA Registry Keys and how to find them here and .

Can I save one character, and use a new character?
tomfin replied to GeekPlaya's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Probably not possible in the current engine. Your unique GUID is tied to your CD key, so one CD key equals one DayZ GUID. It's been discussed often enough. Maybe possible in a standalone version of DayZ further down the road. Sorry. The RegEdit solution shouldn't be too difficult if you follow the instructions carefully. Not personally tested but seems to work just fine for Sacriel. -
Can I save one character, and use a new character?
tomfin replied to GeekPlaya's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
You must buy a second copy of Operation Arrowhead/Combined Operations, and either dual-boot with two separate windows installations, install ARMA2CO per-user on two windows user accounts and log off/on to switch, or follow a guide for switching ARMA CD keys using RegEdit hijinks. Here's Sacriel's guide for method three as it's the most convenient: No way to have two accounts with a single copy of Arma2CO & DayZ. EDIT: RegEdit Step-by-Step Guide by DocTolly. Tip some beans his way if you go for it. Good luck. -
The military barracks at the North West Airfield occasionally spawns a small ammo box inside it, which often contains around 30 clips of STANAG, STANAG SD or other ammo types. http://i50.tinypic.com/2napp3k.jpg http://i48.tinypic.com/357otac.jpg

DayZ is not complete, still in alpha and under development. The debug monitor's there to assist debugging and testing. Come back in a year when development is more complete, or look for an alternative solution if you really don't want to see it ;) http://dayzmod.com/f...ide-debug-menu/ If it's because you're livestreaming and don't want to be stream-sniped, consider something like http://www.screenconcealer.com/ You might try asking someone like Sacriel http://www.twitch.tv/sacriel what he uses to cover his monitor up, it works very well.

In-game time - possible to check before joining?
tomfin replied to Dyrek's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
DayZ Commander's server browser can might give the server time before you join. It'll also update and launch DayZ, and plays nice with Steam versions of ARMA 2. http://www.dayzcommander.com/ Edit: Might :) -
Holy crap, you're absolutely right! And such things already exist... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Saitek-PH04A-Vibration-Headset-PC/dp/B000GFKXJC http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-PH04A-Vibration-Headset-PC/dp/B000GFKXJC Perhaps that would just about even things out with regard to incoming fire, at least. Good call.

The login/logout cooldown system is not yet implemented. Something else is to blame here.

Approaching other survivors in DayZ could be very difficult and dangerous without voice communication, as DayZ has currently moved away from from a global text chat and towards direct short-range communication by voice only. You can still use text chat to talk to other survivors within 80m of your location, but you're very vulnerable while typing. I don't recommend pausing to type when another player is able to see you. Things might improve when radios or other forms of long-range text communication are added (rumoured for DayZ v1.8), at least you'll have an opportunity to chat without being in firing range at that time. I'm sorry to say this, but there aren't a great deal of players who will respect such a disadvantage in the meantime. Here's how it often goes with players who don't use a microphone and voice comms: Transcription for you below. Yes, I know - the player in this video isn't operating very effectively, and there are very few friendlies at the North West Airfield Barracks, but I fear this is how a lot of encounters will go for a deaf player. Insults will be added to injuries. If you have a friend or relative who can work the mic and listen out for shots, that might be your best hope at the moment. DayZ relies heavily on audio cues for notification of zombie alerts and other players' actions. Realtime speech-to-text translation or picture-in-picture video comms would be a big ask, and frankly would be revolutionary for a mainstream title. Perhaps (much later in development) visual cues or closed-captioning for the hearing impaired may be added. It's probably that or hope that Valve Software get involved in DayZ and . That'll probably set the release of DayZ back by four years, of course ;)

I'm not an admin for DE7 but I play there often and can confirm that this camp is legitimate, despite the crazy number of constructions. The biggest issue is that tents have been broken for the last few weeks and either don't save any item, or duplicate items; when items are taken out, they reappear at the next server restart. It's the same for constructions like barbed wire, sandbags and tank traps which constantly reappear after they have been removed. Because most servers reboot every 6-8 hours this has become a bit of a problem. This was also discussed by Rocket in a recent CODanonymous interview. Click here to see the relevant section: http://youtu.be/6BlHvh0JVuk#t=16m10s When I saw this camp my first though was not "hackers". It was "damn, they've been really, really busy" ;)

Thanks SystemiK, this was something I was wondering about. The new forums seem to make it impossible to search for a very small query, making it difficult for admins to look for posts about their server using the server name e.g. UK1, US9, DE2. Such short queries are ignored and return no results at all. I've also noticed the new IPBoard forum leaks player's birthdates on their profile pages where the old board simply displayed your age. Don't mind people seeing I'm old enough to know better, but would prefer to keep my actual birthdate private if possible. Side channel privacy leakage and all that jazz. Thanks again.
