Do people still play Dayz? Update soon?
Typheran replied to Markus843's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The DayZ mod is horribly infected with hackers and script injectors. I quit about 2 months ago because of the broken state the cheat protection was in. spending two hours looking for items and dodging bandits only to have yourself teleported to a guy with a hacked weapon got old very quickly. Seeing unkillable people mow you down over and over was rage inducing. Last week I decided to try again, with the hope that they had actually fixed the massive holes in the cheat protection. Sadly, I was killed by someone who teleported in front of me as soon as I logged it. He spawned a crate and switched weapons while I tried to get away. I didn't get far. Joining another private server I listened as an admin talked with a player on how they both script in thieir weapons when they die. The next day I joined a server in which an admin picked my up in his chopper, when told me that I was to gun for him as he tracked other players with his scripted map. Finding players that were totally hidden in a building seemed crappy. I told the Admin that he was abusing the game and ruining it for other people. I uninstalled the mod. I still play Arma for the insurgency servers, but Day-Z is not worth playing. I really love the idea of it, but the way it was implemented was just bad. Should you buy Arma2? sure.. IF you like Arma2. But, if you just want to play Day-z.... I would pass on this broken game. -
And that is the problem. Short sighted people. Of course u can. Infuse cheat protect into the mod, instead of outside the mod. But then again... U could just limit the only midigation ability people have against hackers, while doing little to stop the hackers. GG. I love the idea of this game, but as u can see in the number of people on the servers and the number of twitch channels compared to that of war-z, this game is dying because of the inaction and inability to fix these problems. I hate war-z it looks cartoony. Rocket had a great idea, but his follow through has been less then Impressive. Saying that imbedding some sort of script resriction is impossible just shows defeatism. It might not be as easy as making a reskinning a russia soldier to a zombie but its far from impossible.

It's hacker filled just like always, but now it seems there are more.

My whole server got telleported and shot with a mk48 yesterday. Combat logging was the only thing that saved the hours of work i put into my gear. My friend was not so lucky. U cant "fix" combat logging until u fix the huge hacker problem.

Walled Compounds and using them as a base.

Sure.. And after hours of work a hacker will just carpet bomb ur base. I'd rather them fix the game then add things that are superficial. -
They don't care. JFK was better protected than this game.

Combat Logging (ALt+F4) solved...

I semi-agree with you. Hackers will always exist, true. But, the implementation of code to mitigate those abuses shouldn't be overlooked. Battle eye (and Rocket) have done a piss poor job in making that happen. Before you scream and throw a little pickles at me let me explain. A majority of what a hacker does can be seen on the server logs and by certain programs. spawning in items, teleporting.. etc etc... Why doesn't battle eye see this? Why is it up to a server admin to wade through these daily, banning people abusing this? Why isn't battle eye and rocket combining their resources, instead of working apart? The moment you spawn in your crate of goodies, battle eye should see the log entry, kick and ban that player and delete that crate. but it doesn't happen. Instead an admin has to look through the logs the next day (or whenever) and individually correct the problem. By then the hacker has abused the server and it's almost pointless. Battle eye says that arma is too easy to hack. Rocket says that cheating is a battle eye problem. And.... nothing gets done. Counter strike had this same problem in the early days. Wallhacking, aimbotting was rampant and people left that game. Smartly, they made it a priority and fixed the problems and today CS is still going strong. Not to say they still don't have hackers, but it's not at the game breaking level like Day-Z. So in short... the problem can never be completely fixed... but it can be mitigated much, much better than this. p.s. why don't then also ban IPs? this would also help. While it wouldn't stop everyone, it would help rid the mid to lower end scripters from returning again and again with new or stolen game keys. -

*Teleport the server to you* Start shooting them with your Mark-48. It's a hackers wet dream. -
Just read the new update notes. Are Hackers gone?

You are correct. No game can completely rid itself of hackers. With that said, the level of hackers in this game is/was beyond a vast majority of any online game. From my gaming prospective it seems akin to the early days of counterstrike, where wall hacking was extremely common. Unfortunately, unlike that game Day-Z is not broken down into 3 minute rounds. How many hackers do you see in most online games, really? They are rare. In Day-Z.... they are common place. As for my assumption. I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt to Rocket and his team to fix the main problem with the game first, before repairing the only tool people have that helps mitigate the the lose of hours of game play to a hacker with a teleport script. . I understand death dodgers are frustrating in a fair match. But, teleporting the entire server to one spot and unloading on them, thus trapping them in the game, is just horrid planning if you haven't fixed hackers first. It's like vacuuming your carpet, while your house is on fire. Fix the main problem first... then address this. -

Sorry for my spelling mistake. English isn't my first language. but since we are on the topic, ISNT is a compound word. It should have a apostrophe. See I can be petty too. As for the title of my post you misquoted me. The title is "Just read the new update notes. Are Hackers gone?" You have to add the WHOLE title, not half of it. By doing that.. my point does make sense. Commenting unintelligibly, only to troll doesn't suit you, but thanks for the bump anyway. Thanks for playing better luck next time -

"[NEW] New Combat System If you fire a weapon, someone fires a weapon near you, or a bullet/object impacts near you, then you go into combat. During combat, "ABORT" is disabled. If you ALT-F4/close anyway, your character is considered "combat logged" and instantly killed and leaves a body. * [NEW] Alt-f4 is now locked and will only open your status menu." Both great ideas... But here is my question. I haven't played in a while, mainly because of the faulty cheat protection. During my two month absents I've been trying to keep up with current events, because I love the idea of this game. Sadly, the immersion is lost the moment you are teleported 100 feet in the air, or having the whole server teleported to a gun with godmode rocking a MK48, or just having someone appear next to you and blast you. Hard to be invested when you die with no way to prevent it. Alt+f4ing helped mitigate these problems in the past but it was still a hard pill to swallow. Now with the addition of this update I can only assume that the above problems have been fixed? -
So I'm new to the forum and all I hear is WAAHHH =(..

Hi Bean peoples, Simple question... have they finally worked on the hacker problem or is it still the wild script west in here? I haven't played in months. I loved the immersion of the game, but being teleported and slayed on a daily basis kills that. Anyway, have they finally made Battle eye and server logs talk to each other? I was soo tired of checking server logs and seeing that people were teleporting and spawning items and battle eye couldn't see it.

He does have a private server. It doesn't help. Hackers still join and mass teleport people. Ban them and others join. It's funny you can see them do these things in the server logs, but Battle eye can't. Losing Hunted1 = losing two servers. Sorry to see you go big guy, but I totally understand.

Part of the problem is that hackers are so infested in the game that it is almost unplayable. WAIT. Before you lose your panties let me explain. There are several ways to play this game. You can be a gunfighter and stay in cherno/elektro and fight til you die (Like the twitch streamer Lirik), or you can be a survivalist and hide/horde and basically immerse yourself into actually being a survivor. If you are a gunfighter then scriptors don't really affect your day too much. What's 1 death when you constantly die? But... If you are a survivalist (Like me). Losing all your items and being send to the coast is painful. It's one thing to get ambushed by another player or do something foolish and die, but it's another thing to get killed by a scripter that you cannot protect yourself from. If I wanted to play a FPS I would play any of the myriad of games that dominate that market. If you are a survivalist player this game is broken for you. Today my home server shut down. Less and less people play from day to day. I think it would be fair to say that besides summer ending, lack of content or new games pulling players away... that the number one reason that the game is declining is scripters. So... complaining that people are flooding the forums with hacker threads should have lit a major fire under the development team's rear. There SHOULD be a tonne of threads about hackers right now. It's like having a house that is on fire. Do you stop everything to deal with the fire.... or vacuum the carpet while your home burns? You are almost right. It's not everytime... just almost everytime. there is a tiny margin or error in there in which you get a break. Sadly.. it's very rare. I can't recall how long ago I was killed by an actual non-scripting player. But the hard fact is, scripters are very real and very active. Most days I get an hour or two before I am dropped to my death/instakilled/exploded/left on debug island.. some days it's as soon as I log in. They don't always kill me.. I ALT+F4 too fast sometimes, but it is constant and unending. Sometimes I can play for 3 or 4 hours before it happens. Sometimes it's as soon as I log in. But make no mistake it is almost EVERYTIME.
