Gear is overrated. There are so many "rare" items in the system because the script kiddies are always bringing more in. I've never had a hard time finding NVGs and things of that sort when I want them. Virtually everything is easily replaced in DayZ. Hanging out in the dangerous player-frequented places is much more interesting than playing countryside hermit.

I can wait for the standalone. It looks great, and I'd rather it was held off for quality improvement than released unfinished or unpolished. It'll be worth the wait and worth the money.

It's very easy to find a map if you wander to the nearest city and look around. I've never had any sort of difficulty finding basic things I need.

If you found a vehicle with a weapon on it that still has ammo and is controlled from the driver seat, you should see it's name in the upper right corner of your screen along with the amount and type of ammunition (if applicable). I'm pretty sure rockets don't work in DayZ. I've also never heard of someone finding the armed attack version of the AH-6, so I couldn't tell you if the miniguns work either.

The legitimate, legal way to play DayZ is to purchase Arma 2 and Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead. There is no disc version, and I'm not aware of any special internet download with a fee. That sort of thing sounds very suspicious to me. Arma 2 is a good game anyway, just buy the pair.

If you're an honorable person, you could spend all night running around checking all the spawns. If you're not, you could always run to your favorite vehicle spawn and hop servers until you find one. You'll have an easier time finding ATVs and Bicycles because people are always destroying them.

The reason for this is the DayZ team never anticipated how big this game would actually become. Getting 1.6 million players to try the game was completely unexpected at the time DayZ was released. As such, the forums for it were never designed to handle the kind of traffic they recieve.

What exactly are you asking? AS50's with thermal sights are scripted weapons that can be found in DayZ through illegitimate means. In real life, you could take a real AS50 rifle and attach a real thermal weapon sight to it to create a real AS50 TWS.

The hives have independent memory and don't interfere with each other. If you leave the main hive that most Chernarus servers are connected to, your things won't come with you as the private hive system the other maps are run on are not connected to the main hive. This means that nothing you do on one hive will have any affect on other hives you choose to play on. You can have an independent character for each hive, and they won't conflict. If you choose to play on, for example, Lingor Island, your character on Chernarus will stay the same until you come back, and vice versa.

No, soldier clothing is scripted into the game. I recommend you dispose of it when you find it. The chances of actually finding someone who possesses the clothing from when it was legitimate are slim to none.

Dogs are probably just going to follow a similar command structure to what Arma already has for squad members. In Arma, there's dozens of commands for your squad including ordering them to get into vehicles and even specific seating (Though I doubt the dog can drive).
