I love the SMERSH vest, easily my favourite item in the game simply because it allows me to look badass. I don't care that it has the most slots, to be honest, I just love it. I own one in real life, and it looks amazing with a Gorka Uniform and body armour. However.... You can't wear body armour with it in-game! Now, I'm no expert, but I know a shit ton about Soviet/Russian militaria. It's just my thing. This look familiar? It's called Kora Kulon body armour. Looks just like the "anti-stab" vest in-game, right? This particular piece of armour is designed to be worn with SMERSH vests, and it looks badass while in use. Check it out. (Note that almost everything the guy is wearing in the second picture you can already get in-game: Smersh, Altyn helmet, Balaclava, AK, etc.) The point of this topic is, I would really enjoy to have the ability to wear the Anti-Stab vest, Plate Carrier, and any other body armour they add in the future in conjunction with the SMERSH rig. And, to be honest, if you found an anti-stab vest, garunteed you would drop it later for a UK Assault vest or something along those lines, making the stab vest and other body armour obsolete purely because they can't hold anything. (yes, I know the plate carrier can hold things, but that's only IF you find pouches for it, and those are so rare they may as well not even be in the game.) While I'm on the topic, I'd like to introduce a new type of body armour that I'd like to see in the game! (aside from a Kora Kulon vest) It's called the DEFENDER-2. Used by Russian forces. Comes in Black, Green, Tan and Khaki. AND, it has MOLLE all over it so It can hold pouches. (note the AK mags) Chicks dig it, too. And look! Like almost every other Russian-Made body armour out there, It's compatible with the SMERSH rig! There. And don't start with the whole "I hate military gear and I wanna live off the land and make my own guns and stuff" Because you'll be able to do that regardless.

With the introduction of the new Equipment Tab at the top of your inventory in 0.63 we can now see where our clothing and equipment fall under in categories such as hats, vests, shirts, etc. (Equipment Tab.) I believe that putting Tactical Vests and Body Armour under the same 'vest' category should be corrected and should be split into two different slots. One for body armour and one for load carrying equipment. Most countries under both NATO and Warsaw pacts issue soldiers with some sort of chest rig and body armour to wear underneath. For example, in the Canadian Forces we're given a 'frag vest', which is an anti-stab/anti-slash vest which we can put plates in. The frag vest offers no pockets or pouches other than the spaces where the sapi plates go, so we're also issued a tactical vest. This is where we keep our equipment such as magazines, medical supplies, a canteen, etc. The tac vest offers no protection, whereas the frag vest does. You wear these together when in the field. (Frag Vest left, Tac Vest right.) This two-vest system is used by many, many countries - including Russia. There are a LOT of different pieces of equipment that the Russian Armed Forces use, but one that stands out to me the most (because of it's existence in the game) is a piece of body armour called Kora Kulon. Look familiar? That's right, fellas. It's the 'anti-stab' police vest in the game already. (Kora Kulon body armour left, DayZ anti-stab vest right. Aside from extra stitching on the DayZ vest they're exactly the same.) Kora Kulon is a plate carrying bullet resistant body armour used by the Russian police and military. I have no clue why it's ONLY an anti-stab vest in the game, but this is why I'm writing this post. The russkies wear this vest with all sorts of load bearing vests, including the SPOSN SMERSH vest. (Russians wearing the SMERSH vest and Kora-Kulon body armour. Note they're also wearing the 'Gorka' helmet which is known as a K6-3, Altyn, or ZSh1-2 helmet in real life.) ( IRL vs in-game. I photoshopped the anti-stab vest under the SMERSH so you can see what it would look like. SPOSN Gorka-E Uniform, ZSh1-2 Helmet with Visor, Kora Kulon Body Armor, SPOSN SMERSH Vest.) So my suggestion is to make load-bearing vests have little to no armour value, and add the ability to wear plate carriers and body armour UNDERNEATH the tactical vests and chest rigs. Vests that have both plate carrying and load carrying abilities such as the plate carrier with pouches and/or pistol holster should take up both slots. Thanks for reading folks and I hope this suggestion finds its way to the ears of the devs, 'cause I reckon it would make the game that much better in the end. Feel free to throw in your two cents, I'd love to hear your feedback or ideas.

With the vast amount of clothing in the standalone I usually catch myself cosplaying the characters from the mod - especially the hero skin. I usually prefer the light blue check shirt over a TTsKO jacket or even the M65 jacket - after convincing myself that I can survive without the extra inventory slots. My usual argument to myself is "well in the mod you only had 12 slots for gear so you don't NEED any more than that!" Anyways I figured I'd show you some screenshots of some "in-game cosplay" as I call it. I did this in the offline singleplayer version of 0.63 to save some time. Makes me wish there was an option to tuck shirts in. Here's hoping they add a "hero" shirt into the game, eh?! Here's some ChDKZ insurgents from the ArmAII Campaign.

Here's another in-game cosplay. I was only able to pull this one off thanks to Photoshop, because you can't wear the anti-stab vest and SMERSH vest at the same time unfortunately. This "cosplay" is a Russian MVD spetsnaz (or Osnaz) Vityaz impression (probably around 2006-07)

Yes exactly. DayZ is all about how your choices affect your character's ability to survive. Should you choose to wear body armour, you should be prepared to make a compromise - such as a smaller backpack.

Meeting up with friends SHOULD be more accessible in .63.
Mullraugh replied to haydaman712's topic in General Discussion
I think spawning on friends should only be an option when every one of you are dead or on a brand spankin' new character. This makes sense to limit people spawning on their buddies and giving them gear to go and pvp in some city, but it also gives you a choice if all of your friends happen to die. Think about it. All your friends die but you - they're nagging you to kill your character and join them on the coast to start the grind all over again. But in your character's point of view, all his friends just died and he probably doesn't see much point living anymore. Makes that F11 key look miiiighty fine. Say only one of your friends dies. Now that just gives your friend group a quest to go down and pick him up. With all the new spawns and stuff at the coast it gives your group a challenge and a reason to go down south. There's not much to do in the game once you've got decent gear, so something like that would be welcomed. -
It's a step in the right direction definitely. With how long it took you to max out the skill I reckon it will make people take a second thought on how much they value the time they put into their character. I do agree that a one second difference is a little lame, but I'm sure all of this will change in the future. I like how long it takes, but I don't like the reward.

We all know the tales of Green Mountain; the myths, legends and truth of that horrible hill. From a group of survivors getting mauled by the infected, to a lone survivor who's Ural ran him over as he got out. Every Green Mountain encounter -from the Mod to the Game- has left us afraid, in pain, sad, or even dead. "They're just legends, they're just myths" they say. Don't listen to those lies. There is a darker presence that cascades from that mountain like the blood pooling from it's victims. If you remember anything from what you've ever learned about Chernarus, let it be this; Green Mountain is cursed. Now, in order to properly fear something, we must know a little bit about it. Green Mountain is located at grid 037093 on the Chernarus Map. Represented by the red marker in Figure 1:1 [Fig. 1:1] A map of North East Chernarus. Green Mountain is one of many Numbers Stations set up by the Soviets in the late 20th century during the Cold War. These Numbers Stations are extremely hard to track, and broadcast on very specific frequencies of shortwave radio. Though their main purpose is shrouded in mystery, many people have guessed their intended purpose was to act as a beacon, warning Russian citizens if Nuclear War with The United States were to ever happen. Many countries have made these stations, including Great Britain whose most famous station, nicknamed "The Lincolnshire Poacher" for it's continuous broadcast of - you guessed it- The Lincolnshire Poacher. Each Numbers Station plays a unique set of songs, noises and dialogue on loop non-stop since the day they were turned on and forgotten. Despite being half a century old, these Numbers Stations continue to be operational today, after being abandoned and left to deteriorate. Here's what Great Britain's "Lincolnshire Poacher" Station sounds like: Now that we know about what Green Mountain is, we can go deeper into what makes it unique. Please note: due to lack of solid information on the subject, the following is just theory. During the outbreak in Chernarus, the military set up killing zones in an attempt to contain the infection. These areas are found across Chernarus (In the mod, not the standalone) and always contain a few broken down military trucks and a mass grave. The most common ones I have found were outside of Chernogorsk, the North West Airfield and Green Mountain. (These have all been removed for now, unfortunately, but I hope to see them again in the Standalone's future). I believe the Chernarussian Military used these points by broadcasting them as "safezones", then lined up the civilians that arrived and shot them, piling their bodies into a mass grave. What makes Green Mountain so important is that it's the biggest broadcasting station of North East Chernarus [see figure 1:2], making it the easiest way the Chernarussian Military could get broadcasts through to the civilian population. So in a way, Green Mountain is the source of all the mass graves and executions in Chernarus - which is why it's cursed. [Fig. 1:2 All of Chernarus and its major cities, including Chernogorsk and the Nations Capital - Novigrad] Thank you for reading the massive wall of text! I tried to lighten it up with pictures and a video. To continue this thread, please comment, add information you may know about Numbers Stations, share your theories about Green Mountain or tell us your horror stories about the dreaded Green Mountain!

Episode 1: The Helicopter Crash I want to make more of these in the future, so please, if you have any suggestions, share them! This was my first time really using Adobe After Effects. Lots of green screen work and colour correction mostly. I love the double exposure type. Looks a lot like the DayZ Logo, except there's a story being shown inside it.

The footage is from Arma 2, 3, and DayZ Standalone. So there's no real home for it. It's intended to be about the standalone, so it's here.

Actually it's a font called Gulag Decay, not me attempting to spell words in cryllic. And C is S in cryllic, so it says something along SNEYAIATS, not whatever you just pulled out of your ass. Hope you enjoy that cancer you spoke of, pal.

This is Russian Military/Police 'Kora Kulon' body armour. Look familiar? It's exactly like the Anti-Stab vest. Except less wimpy. Why not just change the stats on items that are already in game? Because in my opinion, I think the Anti-Stab vest is the best vest in the game. Not for items, of course, but for looks and practicality. The only thing that could make it better is making it stop low-caliber bullets.

A vision of what DayZ 1.0 could look like
Mullraugh replied to Statsmakten's topic in General Discussion
Very well done! Just a pro tip for next time, if there is one. When you want to film something in-game (or even take a screenshot), but don't want the crosshairs in there, just rotate your character's body so he's facing about 70-90 degrees off of what the target for the frame is, then doubletap left ALT so you go into freelook mode. From there, if you move your head over and look at the target, you should notice that your crosshairs will eventually stop following your cursor and leave the screen if you look far enough over. If that was confusing, I literally just made a video on this halfway through writing this post, because I figured it would be. Enjoy. -
Great choice of music. So solemn and peaceful

You don't even have to open the can all the way. Stab the top of the can and 'drink' the contents out. Knife.... 2 seconds Screwdriver.... 5 seconds. Axe.... 2 seconds Don't let the way the current items look and the way you eat them ruin your imagination. It is Alpha, after all.

If bads kill goods and goods kill bads Who's bad and who's good? If killing is considered bad, then why can goods do it? People have this belief that Heroes are the guys who kill bandits. Sure, but how does that make them any better than the bandits themselves?

Spawn with random genetic predisposition to diseases to add variety
Mullraugh replied to CGNoodlePot (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
There should be a slider in the character creation menu for Age, Health, and Fitness. Age would be from, say, 20-70. The higher the age, the harder it is to play. Health would be from. say, Healthy to 'Not'. The lower the health, the harder it is to play. Fitness would be from, say, Fit to Unfit. The closer to the unfit spectrum, the harder it is to play. This should also have an option to toggle "randomize on player respawn", where you'd spawn as a 27 year old healthy and fit person one life, and then the next you'd be a 67 year old fat man with diabetes. -
How doesn't it work. You breathe through them waterbottles poking out the sides. They've got a makeshift filter in'em, don't ya see?

You haven't followed the development from the start. DayZ SA is making tons of progress, you just haven't been here to witness it Progress isn't made from people whining and complaining. It's made from people who are proactive and supply constructive criticism. Your first time playing this game shouldn't be rainbows and sunshine and firearms out the ass. If anything, it should be just as relentless, lonely and boring as you've described it. Also, I like this little tidbit.

Made a video on this not too long ago.

A suggestion that's just a video and a sentence isn't a suggestion. It's congestion. I'm sure devs don't have time to read through everything that people come up with, so at the very least make it well thought out and reasonable.
