Apartments are very inconvenient places to loot.
Mullraugh replied to stray cat's topic in Suggestions
I say pistols because usually apartment landlords won't allow people to own firearms, even hunting ones. Pistols are easy to smuggle in and are a good form of home defence. Melee weapons shouldn't be any better than a baseball bat. It doesn't make sense for a city person living in a flat to own a hatchet or a farming hoe. -

I was actually going to suggest something like this, and I'm glad you brought it up. I think that apartments should be a looter's wet dream when it comes to items. Because if you think about it, if there's 8 stories, each having 4 "houses", which will be a home for about 1-4 people each, then there's going to be a LOT of things to loot. The old soviet flats should be amazing places for civilian loot. You shouldn't find rifles or melee weapons better than a baseball bat, but there should be a good amount of pistols, especially the Makarov. -

Don't let crafting destroy this game
Mullraugh replied to Jonah_Hobbes's topic in General Discussion
You're going to get a lot of hate for this post, so I'm just going to point out the good points you've noted, since I'm sure everyone else will just point out the bad and tell you to go play Call of Duty. The mod had it's days, and for me those days ended when everyone became obsessed over Epoch (which is basically a better version of wasteland with zombies.) Epoch ruined the mod in my opinion, because it took all of the post-apocalyptic survival "holy shit the world has ended" feel to it and turned it into a battlefield. Your good points: -strong fast zombies The Standalone tries it's best to cater to the wants and needs of it's massive community. However, you can't please 3 million people all at once. Someone will always be unhappy. -
If you'd like to support the development of the Standalone game before it's out, I recommend you buy it instead of the mod. However, ArmA 2 is a really awesome game in and of itself, so you get a double whammy from buying it for the mod. In my opinion, DayZ Standalone is better, purely because it's not a mod and it's actively being worked on. New items and fun times come out with every update, and it's generally a good time once you learn the ropes. However, I've played more of the mod than any game out there, and it's an extremely fun one if you learn how to play it. Both these games have steep learning curves, though. Especially the part about learning the Chernarus map.

I think the devs should have worked on the melee combat system just a little more before adding these new zombies. I have no problem with the update right now, but I feel melee combat would be more streamlined if it was worked on a little more. That way we don't just sprint in circles, swinging our axes at zombies who are also sprinting in circles swinging their arms. I love the new update, but that's what I feel could have been worked on a little more.

They should be found mostly in coastal towns or even the rowboats we find washed up on shore all the time.

I've spent the past 30 minutes outside of Vybor picking apples from a tree because the surrounding area is completely void of food. Apples do barely anything for hunger. I've eaten about 70 apples and haven't gotten energized. I hope they fix this bottomless pit of a stomach and a weakness that makes us die in half a day if we don't eat. 3 apples is enough to fill a guy up for a quarter of the day. That's 6 hours

Mullraugh replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
nah I was under a canopy beside a house -
It's not just the bambi's they're raping! I just logged into a server and died 10 seconds later. Logged in next to a zombie and it began hitting me Shot it 5 times, since they've buffed them up or something 3 more zombies come over and instakill me remind me not to fuck with zombies.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Mullraugh replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
my first 10 seconds of the DayZ 0.55 update. Log in 5 meters from zombie Zombie sees me and starts hitting me I shoot the zombie in the head with an AK-74 Zombie keeps hitting me I spray the zombie down after I begin bleeding 3 more zombies see me and begin running in place as if they were on a treadmill 2 seconds later the zombies teleport over to me and I'm hit 17 times at once and instantly die. Best update ever -
So I was looting a town and was tackled to the ground by a zombie. I got a picture of her beating me, but after a few minutes of not being able to kill me, the zombie started crying. (blood, of course, but it was still sad). The zombie has me tackled. Apparently the zombie just wanted cuddles, and proceeded to spoon me. Against my will, of course (since I'm always big spoon). The zombie spoons me. I ran to Zelenogorsk and she trapped me in one of the barrack buildings. I didn't want to kill her because I could see there was still human in her. So, I let her have her way with me. Apparently Zombies just want some love every now and then. The zombie gives me awful diseases Let's just say after this event I was forced to murder her then amputate something of mine that I held very dear to my heart. Probably won't date another zombie again.

Those are bakelite grips. Same thing the soviets made AK-74 mags from. Had asbestos in it. The stocks and foregrips were usually made of bakelite too. Sorry. Soviet Militaria is my jam. Yes, I'd love to see these pistol grips in the game.

Impact of 3rd Party Comms (TS3, VENT, etc.)
Mullraugh replied to 8bit_Survivor's topic in General Discussion
It also eliminates the possibility of tracking a group, learning a specific member's voice, waiting until he's alone, shanking him, taking his gear and posing as him, voice acting his voice, then shooting all of them at a later date. I did this with a group of 4 guys in Balota, since they were bandits and all had similar gear. I killed one with an axe as he was off alone drinking from a well, then took his clothes and returned to the group. Luckily they were using the in-game direct chat, and I was able to pretend to be that dude for quite some time, trying to act his voice. They eventually found out I was a fraud, but I managed to kill another before they got me. I hate it when some of the best moments I've ever had I was unable to get on video. I'm actually extremely against the use of 3rd party communication when playing DayZ -
As we've all seen, the "Gorka" helmet (more commonly known In real life as an Altyn, Rys'T or K6-3), has been spawning in military locations more frequently than it did in the past. This is awesome and all, but despite it being my most favourite helmet of all time, IRL and in-game, it lacks the potential it has in real life. Ways this awesome helmet can improve: 1: Painting it. Simple. Just like the American Balistic helmet in-game already. It also looks good tan, if we ever get tan spraypaint. 2: Different visors and the ability to flip them up and lock them in place. -TIG helmet visor -Altyn helmet visor (most common) -MASKA helmet visor (very old, outdated visor) (note the visor that is currently in the game is on the left soldier's helmet) Also note that these helmets come with visors by default, the Altyn variant being the most common above every other type. A picture of the visor flipped up and locked into place. 3. Helmet Covers These helmets also come with a huge huge variety of helmet covers and "skins" kind of. one example would be this black one that the FSB uses. It has velcro patches on it for ID or call of duty type customization another good example is this OMON Special Police version, used by the Russian OMON police (The unit that Chernarus' OREL police is based off of) If you want more examples, you can just look at this store's product page here. I'm actually thinking of getting a helmet cover myself, since I own an Altyn helmet. http://www.thesovietrussia.com/category/russian-helmets-covers 4. Microphone and Radios Altyn helmets (specifically the Rys'T variant) have the ability to carry a microphone that plugs in to the side of the helmet, as seen below You can see the mic is folded backwards, put away when not in use. The microphone jack fits into almost every Motorola radio out there. This way, you can talk to your friends, and hear them through the radio, since I'm still not sure if the helmet has internally built headphones, without having to hold the walkie talkie in your hands! (bonus, the Radio fits perfectly into a radio pouch on a tactical vest, especially the SMERSH) 5. Ablilty to stop small arms rounds to an extent. Altyn helmets are designed for close-quarters urban combat, especially with the TIG, MASKA, and Altyn visors installed. They can stop small rounds easily, and provide amazing protection from debris and shrapnel from blasts. 6. Ability to put Goggles on them (when/if combat goggles are added) Just like their American counterparts, they can fit goggles with the visor removed. (hint hint, add combat goggles in the future) 7. Compatible with most Gas Masks Though, to be honest, every Helmet out there is compatible with a Gas Mask. The Ballistic helmets in game already are just lame, and should be able to support a gas mask like they used to be able to. That's it, that's all! Thanks for reading, and I hope to see this in-game, because it should seriously be recognized!

I agree with everything you said except a tiny part in this sentence. Roleplay should be encouraged more than anything in this game. When the mod first came out, before it was called DayZ, it was called "Zombie Apocalypse RP". Just a little sad that the devs are taking the "this is your story" slogan and turning it into "this is your game experience". DayZ is turning into more of a game than a simulator, whereas the mod was a good 70/30 split.

Good to see some people actually living off the land. I might give it a try in the future.

My visits to Green Mountain

I'd be upset if they added the MASKA before the Altyn. It's hideous, whereas the Altyn is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/176843-cameras-and-video-cameras/ My suggestion wasn't good enough, I suppose... Kidding. If something is suggested more than once, it's a good suggestion, I always say.

Yesterday, I was ambushed by a few bandits (you can watch the video in the spoiler, if you'd like), and it turns out, the same motherfucker that got me yesterday, got me again today. Oh well. Not the first time Green Mountain has destroyed my hopes and dreams.
