Too sneaky for most people

According to specialists in the field of survival (such as Les Stroud), Lonliness and Boredom are major detrimental factors that can lead to death in a survival situation. It makes sense that you would be more anxious, nervous or hopeless if you had no contact with humans in a situation that could possibly kill you, meaning you would 'realistically' burn more calories and loose hydration from sweating and all the other symptoms that come from shock or panic. I expected the usual "if you kill somone you should go insane" kind of post, but this is honestly the best post regarding KoS and how to balance it i have ever seen, so OP, here are the first can of beans I have ever given to someone on these forums I don't 100% agree with everything being suggested, but that's why we are here. We, the community, should see this as a post to improve, not say "this isnt sims no" and leave. Put your constructive criticism in and help out, because this is one of better suggestions out there.

No, not right now. Maybe after the core survival mechanics are polished up/ added to the game as well as the perfection of the zombies.

Are these weather effects a bit too much?
Mullraugh replied to Sistinas1973's topic in General Discussion
In my personal opinion, I believe that DayZ should be so survival-based, that it would still be hard to survive even if the zombies were removed. Zombies to me are that extra push that should take survival from the "hard" to the "oh shit" level of difficulty. Hopefully the developers recognise this and push to take this game a step further in the years to come. -
I usually use Konstantin as my in game name. I've found [FOG] Irish on a server though!

Here's my suggestion. If you don't like it, feel free to put in some constructive critisism. I believe that when you die, your next character should have zero connection to the last one you played as. Meaning, you shouldn't be able to just run back to your body and get your gear. Now, the devs already have a thing in place in the form of despawning bodies, but let's face it. Nobody wants that if we choose to make the game as realistic as possible. So, one suggestion could be to enable bodies for as long as the server stays up until restart, making them visible to everyone EXCEPT you. This means that, yes, your body will be lootable by other people. Of course there's some problems with guys walking up to an empty area on the ground and suddenly having a bunch of gear, but this is better than there not being a body at all. Also, the hide body function should not exist - unless your character legitimately drags the body to some random bush or something. Another suggestion that ties in quite well with this is having the knowledge to use specific items in Chernarus. For example - Yes, anyone could pick up an AKM and load a magazine into it and fire it. But if it ever gets jammed, what do you do? How would you know how to fix it without learning how prior to owning it? There could be manuals in game. Instead of finding Hamlet or The Bible in those military jails and police stations, we could find AKM Manual or Helicopter Operators Guide, in which we can read, and our characters will be able to learn from them, allowing the option to "field strip AKM" and fix the problem. There's a billion different ways to apply this suggestion, be it through survival and hunting manuals, to industrial and machinery, military and vehicle maintenance. No more "need" for Skill Tree's or a leveling up system. Also, if you can't get a manual but your friend knows how to fix your AKM, he should be able to take his own AKM and teach you step by step how to field strip it. A bit of practice, and then your character will know how himself. Something like this will add an extreme emphasis on character health and life, as it will no longer be a walk in the park to survive. Lack of knowledge could be your greatest enemy. Added on to all of that is the suggestion of Gear. You know how your stuff goes from Pristine to Ruined? Let's be honest - your clothes look ugly when they're damaged, but you don't look like a survivor at all with pristine clothing either. I say there should be a separate set of durabilities on clothing that slowly degrade the items the longer you wear them. They will not become damaged or render them useless or anything, they'll just look more worn out and used over time. So say you kept the pair of jeans that you spawned with for 3 days. There should be mud caked on the bottom of the pant legs, some holes in them and, say a bandage wrapped around one of the knees. This way you may become a little more attached to your gear, thus making you want to preserve your character's life and discourage you from deathmatching in Berezino. And of course, beards fit into all of this as well.

I had actually thought of being able to take apart weapons without manual experience before making this post, but realized that people could just look up online how to do it in DayZ and bypass any and all game progression and adventures possible by trying to find a manual.

Do.. you have a gun?
-
You're a survivor in my opinion. There's no such thing as heroes and bandits in the standalone. Just normal people with morales, and people who've been too influenced by shoot 'em up video games like Battlefield and Call of Duty to give a damn about their fellow survivors.

It's like a metallic clanging noise kind of... Are you sure you can't hear it?

[URGENT HELP] Terrible FPS can't even play without lagg
Mullraugh replied to yaboyteek's topic in Troubleshooting
According to what I've heard about my own computer, it's the AMD processor that kills us. Apparently this game isn't optimized at all for them. I have a Geforce GTX 780 Video card and I still can't get over 10 frames per second in cities. -
According to the people of these forums, we're already using the Enfusion engine. And I agree, optimization should be a 'high-on-the-list' project for this game. I have a GTX 780 video card and I can't get over 10 frames in cities and 20-ish frames in open areas. Supposedly, this is due to the fact I have an AMD processor, which is apparently not optimized for this game. So even simple things such as optimizing for AMD processors should be done.

I made this post a little bit ago and kind of forgot about it, but it would be beneficial if it was revived... http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/206899-community-based-chernarus-history/

Yeah. Sure. Try going to Berezino for a few hours.

Canadian ones... 'nuff said.

I just ate some rations yesterday, they actually need boiling water. Most are 10 minutes in boiling water, some are 5 minutes - Depends on the ration. I got Maple Pork Sausage and some Peaches, as well as a bit of Vegetable Lasagne I took from my friend. Each of them were about 200-250 calories each and gave a crap ton of energy for the day.

What's more odd is how you have no pants and basic gear yet have an AK.

The "DayZ feel" comes from (for me, at least) the post-soviet map. I liked nearly all of the mod maps solely because they weren't generic American places, and they had some sort of link to the USSR. I believe DayZ wouldn't have ever gotten as popular as it did if it were based anywhere else. Chernarus is the perfect setting for this game.
-
Haha that was amazing

Create two seperate military loot tables
Mullraugh replied to stielhandgranate's topic in Suggestions
Yeah, in Russia and some post-soviet countries (like Chernarus, realistically), Police units such as the Russian OMON (Basically Chernarus' OREL) are gendarmerie forces, which means they're a branch of the military charged with police duties. So in my opinion, the "Chernarussian Military loot table" should be broken down to Police and Military, as well as external forces such as Russia's troops, which clearly back the troops of Chernarus hence the reason the uniforms we are able to find are virtually the same as Russia's. Obviously we need more evidence of this, but that's the best we can assume given the resources. -
For me, ArmA 2 lags less purely because It's better optimized.

one does not simply write Green Mountain in red text and survive to do it again.

So, I'm new to DAYZ, and I can't play yet.
Mullraugh replied to CommandoScrub's topic in New Player Discussion
What. The. FFF- Nuggets. I get 9 fps in towns/cities and 15-23 fps out in forests and I have a Geforce GTX 780 video card. I would kick a baby for 50 frames. suck it up and play the game mister "50 fps is bad" -
POLL: Should recently-rendered-unconscious players be able to immediately respawn?
Mullraugh replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Should be more than 60 seconds IMO. In the mod it took around 4 minutes to wake up after being unconscious and it was barely any time at all. You should not be able to disconnect or respawn if you're unconscious. And just because games can never achieve perfect "realism" doesn't mean they can't try.
