Try joining Roleplay servers. Yeah it sounds lame, but it's more fun than gearing up, shooting some people, then dying to a bug/glitch

So I was looting around in the great ol' Northwest Airfield, and discovered this badboy in one of the small semi-circle looking green barrack buildings! The thing is so big, I needed to drop my backpack just to carry it. Hence why I didn't go too far with it. Here it is! It's pretty awesome! All the windows and the door can be closed, as well. Look at all that space to store shit! Thanks for checking this out, guys! Hope this gets you excited for base building and everything else to come in the future! I sure am! Can't wait to build a camp with my friends with these things!

You'd think at MOST 2 bottles of water would make you not thirsty anymore And 2 whole cans of food would make you not hungry anymore.

Do environmental Coke and eating sounds mean something?
Mullraugh replied to roguetrooper's topic in General Discussion
I actually tested this with my friends. It's literally other people opening cans of coke and stuff. My friend was in elektro and I was at devil's castle and I told him to drink too much water so that he could puke. I heard the puking noise right as he said he was puking and I was on the other end of the map. -
Some you can even just put IN your backpack and have all the tubes and shit coming out the top

I was hoping I could throw the tent in the back of my truck so I didn't have to take off my backpack, but remembered the V3S doesn't have an inventory yet

New to me! Pretty freakin' awesome. Wish they weren't so rare though.

Great idea! I'd also like the flare to make a whistling noise and stay in the air longer

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
Mullraugh replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Simple reason. Because people like you post useless, off topic replies. -
I used to do this all the time, My care packages were SMERSH backpacks, since they're small little packs with MOLLE all over them and look just like a care package. I usually put a loaded Makarov, a Water Bottle, Can Opener and a Map of all of Chernarus inside. I used to put them on the roads between hotspot towns and cities and light a road flare beside them. I'd also put a note beside it saying who I was and how I wish them good luck on their adventures.

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
Mullraugh replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
I don't think it should be added. In fact, I think in order to sprint, you should have to tap the W key. The faster you tap it the faster your character will run. Of course, holding W down will still allow you to jog as normal. That's my two cents. -
I think backpacks should carry MORE to be honest. I mean, If you've ever used a backpack in real life, you'd notice that it's pretty easy to fit 4 different sets of clothing (shirt and pants) inside a backpack with enough spare room to squeeze in smaller items like can openers or cans themselves. I think it should be based on a weight system rather than slots in my opinion.

You lazy bums didn't want to do the challenge I gave you (at the top of the page), and now that I'm on Christmas Leave until January 4th, I've decided to give you a story of one of my very old experiences at Green Mountain. It was a calm and sunny day. The endless fields that pepper Chernarus' rolling hills mimic ocean waves as the cool breeze of autumn gently blows the grass around. Along with the light-hearted ambience of the Fall season is the lonely, droning noise of a Ural, making it's way along the small roads of Chernarus. The Driver, formally a simple carpenter who worked in the industrial areas of the developing city of Elektrozavodsk, now a rugged, alcoholic remnant of a world now passed, eyes the horizon line in search of "The Towered Mountain". At least, that's what he could make out of the last words of a dying Russian man who saved him back in Balota. The scene played over and over in his head like a broken record. The man lay there, his abdomen a bleeding mess from the 7.62x39 round that tore through his body. He didn't know the man, the man didn't know him, and for some reason the man had saved him from the sniper. His last words, in very broken English echoed through The Driver's head. "Beware the Towered Mountain". Naturally, when told to avoid something, humans tend to go straight towards it. The Driver was no different. His mind kept telling him to do it, as if a warning from a dying man meant nothing, as if he was somehow controlled by an external force. Several minutes passed before it came into sight. The jagged white silhouette of a radio tower pierced the horizon. The Driver knew this was the place. The Ural moaned and puttered it's way up the road that lead it's victims to the horrible mountain. The Driver kept his eyes peeled for any source of danger - after all, he was warned against visiting this place. The truck came to a slow halt and the driver side door swung open, letting a pair combat boot clad feet hit the ground. The Driver trained his AKM straight ahead as he made his way around the front of the Ural and to the gates of the long abandoned Soviet Numbers Station. A few spooks guarded the entrance but were swiftly taken out by The Driver's sidearm, a trusty Makarov PM, their rotting bodies hitting the ground with a hollow thud. A little bit of "lockpicking" (hitting the lock repeatedly with an axe) later and the gates opened. As The Driver entered the zone, an unearthly vibe shook his being. The smell of rot, not unlike that of the spooks, lingered in the thick air. Rounding the base of the tower, The Driver could make out the sound of flies. Not just a few, but millions of flies. The sound grew unbearably loud as he stepped closer to the far corner of the compound. Clouds of black flies swarmed above large mounds of dirt on the ground. The Driver's stomach dropped. He's seen this before in blurred news videos. He stepped closer, the smell destroying his senses. Piles of bodies burned images in his mind he knew he would never forget. Hollow eye sockets, chest cavities bursting with writhing maggots, and the putrid, disgusting smell of death took over. Fear struck him harder than it had ever struck him before. Fear of the world he was now so clearly living in, fear of the dark in which many do not return from, fear of the open fields in which many have been sniped, and most of all, fear of becoming just another lost soul in a desolate Soviet country. Looking down at the Makarov on his belt, he thought of his adventures. His life after life ended, after civilization ceased to exist. The trials he's been through and the obstacles he's passed seemed to reinforce his mind. The Driver turned around after waving a salute to the dead, walking away back to his Ural. He would not become just another lost soul. He would be the best he can possibly be, then be better. His life would be meaningful to others, as the Russian man's life was meaningful to him. The Driver mounted his vehicle, turning the engine on and getting ready to leave. Heaving forward, the Ural began to move until *thud!* it stopped. The front tires must have bumped into an obstruction on the path. The Driver stepped out of his vehicle again, leaving the engine on. He wheeled around to the front of the truck, bending down to see what he ran into. Nothing! The Driver stood up again and looked at the front of his beloved Ural. Just then, the engine puttered and the Ural drove forward without an operator, hitting The Driver and killing him. The End. I am The Driver. This story was based on my first journey to Green Mountain back in the mod. It was one of my first times really being away from the spawn areas. I had got a really good understanding of how the game worked and how people interacted, so I made my way down to Balota where I met a guy with a thick Russian accent. The man knew what he was doing and helped me get enough supplies to defend myself. After a few minutes of looting Balota, the Russian guy spotted a sniper and right as he tells me he found him, he got shot. Now- obviously he couldn't cough up any last words regarding Green Mountain, BUT he had a map on him, and I really needed it. I took the map and on it was a map marker - right above Green Mountain. I had heard the stories of the place before, and even traveled there in the ArmA 2 game, but never in DayZ. I didn't go there at first, but after a few days of living the same life and gearing up and finding a Ural, I decided that I would risk going there. Basically what happened is I took a look around, got a little scared from the massive pile of rotting bodies, ran back to the Ural, started going but it got stuck, hopped out and ran in front of it, then the Ural started driving without anyone in it and it ran me over and killed me. This story and a few others that I have are the reason I'm 100% convinced that Green Mountain is cursed. Nothing you can say, nothing you can show me, and nothing that proves the Curse not real will ever make me stop believing.

Posts like this make me think "awww yeah. Another reason why DayZ is the coolest game ever. So many moral decisions and difficult choices you have to make. It's like a real apocalypse!" Then I snap back into reality and remember that it's still a game, and that any XxQuikScOpexX kid can buy it and play it and ruin it.

The fireman's carry is now obsolete in today's militaries due to the simple fact that they grew brains and figured out that it's NOT low profile at all. We (Canada) actually just drag casualties by their vests or under their arms now since it's more tacticool. So yeah, good idea, but maybe swap fireman carry with just a simple dragging animation. PS. Dragging someone with 100+ lbs of gear on them a mere 40 meters is a hard task, so if they ever think of implementing a real energy system, that should drain it quite fast.

I made this in Adobe After Effects to add some more variety to people's video intros. This probably isn't as cool as the one everyone is using now, but I'm sure you guys might use it in your videos. The download for the clip is in the description of the video

WARNING: THIS IS A LONG POST, SO BE PREPARED TO READ. As always, I'll try to lighten things up with pictures or video, since nobody likes reading a massive wall of text. Also - I'm not sure if I'm allowed to make such a game-changing post, but I sure hope I am and that it gets some attention from the Developers. Alright. I believe somewhere it's been said before that the developers would like player-created history and lore to DayZ, and it's been irking me to finally create this post. I'm sure I can take enough of a break from Green Mountain to create some history and "lore" as some could call it about the country that mothers our DayZ characters. Chernarus. A land of hopelessness and desperation. A place not many of us really know a lot about... A place we have the power to change. WITH OUR MINDS. Alright, so first. Where on earth is Chernarus? Yes- most of us know it's based off of a small area in what is now the Czech Republic, but where in the world is it in the Armaverse? I made a picture for a post a while ago regarding how WWII German gear may or may not be in Chernarus (not going to provide a link since it should remain dead.), so ignoring the big red circle highlighting Germany, we can get a basic concept on where Chernarus is. Disregarding the fact that part, or all of, the Caspian Sea is renamed to the Green Sea in the Armaverse, we can see that Chernarus is located on that "nub" (as I like to call it) that present day Russian Federation (Russia) owns. Obviously the land shape is not the exact same, and I may be off by a few hundred kilometers, but this is the best possible guess I could make given sources from the bistudio forums and other constant debates around the internet, so don't beat me up - at least I try. (This isn't a thread for proving me or anyone else's opinions wrong, this is for community constructive criticism and additions to the Community-Made History of Chernarus) NOTE: we do not know what Earth looks like in the Armavese. It could be completely different for all we can tell. However, since Chernarus and Takistan and most other parts of the Armaverse take up such a tiny area on the globe, and the constant references to other existing countries such as the United States and Russia, we can just assume that the nations and areas in the ArmA series are a part of the world we live in now, with little changes to the national borders of existing countries. ArmA Series Chernarus (Mostly outdated): provided by bistudio.com To summarize the contents in the spoiler, Chernarus is really old and was part of Russia/USSR from 1631 until 1991 - the fall of the Soviet Union. People: Geography: Broken into Sections. (this stuff is interesting if you have the time to read it- especially Military Zones) Historical Sites: Military Zones: Nature: Industrial Areas: Inhabited areas Major Cities: Now that all of the above has been read and considered (unless you didn't read it or already know this stuff), we can move on to the community created stuff! (and by Community I mean me until you guys start to contribute and/or I search for meaningful posts in threads other than this one that might be useful) DayZ Community Chernarus: provided by the DayZ Community History: People: Geography: Historical Sites: Military Zones: Nature: Industrial Areas: Inhabited Areas: Major Cities: Events: Military and Police: I realize this is practically a wikipedia page all about Chernarus right here, and it has the potential if we, as a community, put it together. Basically, I want you guys to create stories, history, lore, anything about any of the topics listed above. Together we can form more background information into the world we play in so that we can have more facts and strong footholds in any future suggestions regarding the map. Of course, this map is constantly changing and coming out with a new town practically every update, so we'll have something to do that's actually constructive until the game releases. Thanks for reading and I hope to see many new things to add to this post!
