I'd get Arma2 and enjoy the DayZ mod. We've been waiting for the standalone for a long time now, even if rocket said it'll be out next week I'd presume it'll be postponed for another 6 months.

So I've put plenty of hours into this game so far, with the majority of my play time on core Chernarus DayZ rather than spreading my wings and heading over to different maps. This isn't to say I've not played them, just haven't spent nearly as much time exploring them. Before I begin, I just want to make it clear that everything I say is an opinion and it can't be deemed as right or wrong just what I think would help the Standalone be the game that I think it could be. Saying that, the game I want it to be is far from what I'll describe in this thread. I personally despise how clunkly interactions are in Arma 2 and 3, opening a door should be a mapped key and should be easy to do. This is the same for a lot of interactions such as climbing down a ladder etc... but I'll stop there as I know that there's no chance of that being implemented on the current game's architecture. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Okay so... what I want to start off with is the Z part of the game. Zombies for those struggling with that. The mod too has struggled with this even though it's meant to be a zombie game. Yes they're a part of it but they don't impact on the game like they should do. The pathing has always been a problem but judging by the devblog videos this has been resolved (yay). Now comes the issue of speed. If I died and became a zombie, I would not expect to be able to run like Usain Bolt and jump like the Hulk. What I would expect is to be able to rip and tear the crap out of anything that came remotely close to me. This is where I think the zombies are a let down in a zombie apocalypse game. There's no fear of zombies, just annoyance. They shouldn't be able to open doors, they should start smashing them down. They flat out shouldn't be able to climb. They should quietly huddle in dark corners waiting to surprise their next victim. There should be a way that would hinder the player but would massively decrease the chance of detection. This does not mean crawling as my life is too short to crawl round a town looting. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Moving on, the next topic I'd like to address is possibly the most important. Community. DayZ represents a new style of gaming (or atleast it is the first of its kind that I've come across), survival and interaction in a player versus player open world environment. The mod has become a coastal team deathmatch and it is very rare to stumble into a friendly compadre. Why is this? I believe it's down to both the lack of community and the lack of objective. I'll touch on community first as it doesn't seem as discussed on this forum. I played for around 8 months on a private hive called Wireworld which stuck firmly to the mod's roots. Spawn with nothing etc etc. There was a teamspeak server that 98% of players used and there were lots of groups/teams. What was nice was that there wasn't a time where I'd kill or be killed by someone I hadn't seen before in the player list. I could recognise who the good players were and who the bad players were, I'd also know their usual haunts and it was probably the most entertaining gaming experience I've ever had. Well done Wireworld. Now, the question you may pose may be... well what can the standalone take from this? ... and that's a fair point, unless there are private hives how can a community be put together? Mine and my mate Michael's idea is to be assigned a group of 2/3 servers that you are able to access. You can then invite friends to join your server if there's space or others wanting to swap you would then lose your access to your previous server group. This initial assignment would be done geographically and would pen people in to playing on certain servers forcing a community to be formed. Objective is a strange one, there's always going to be different views on this and it's possibly controversial. When you first start out on DayZ mod, you're overwhelmed by the vast learning curve needed. What gun is good/bad and where to go to find better equipment. This will always have its limitations, there's only so many gun variants possible and this is where I've struggled to retain interest. My solution or additional interest would be base/camp building. This is what would happen in a real life zombie apocalypse so being able to escape pvp and zombies and scavenge the woods for building materials would be amazing. This again would create a community as base/camps would be tied to one server, a player spending time building a house is more likely to stick around on that server getting to know others in the area. There would also be the opportunity to raid that base if you could get past the fortifications. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Vehicles are useful, fact. However, there shouldn't be road blocks. Zombies don't drive. Aircrafts should be available as they are fun, but hard to fix and rare to spawn. Previously the private hive I played on had 1 spawn every 2 weeks. This is a game after all and I want to have fun, not get a disease from the water and get jumped on by a Usain Bolt zombie. Vehicles should be able to be modified, additional armour added would make the car/bus/truck zombie proof but slightly slower and less fuel efficient. Bicycles should be fairly common, real world houses have them why shouldn't DayZ? If you're going for realism after all... _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Map, Chernarus. We've played it and played it and played it. The standalone will need variants for lasting playability. Adding an inland ship is nice and all but it doesn't mean I'll be interested playing the map for years to come. I'd also recommend removing the empty space that is north and west. Make it into an island that you're stranded on. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Apologies for the essay, if you've bothered to read it I hope you enjoyed my splurge of thoughts. Did they just forget to optimise Arma 2 then? Same developers, same mistakes. Could it be that the game is being restricted by 1 or more developers in the team lacking in knowledge? There must be a good reason why a mod such as DayZero can improve the FPS so dramatically when the actual game developers can't.

My god you've got a talent for talking out of your arse. It takes a few minutes to make a post with a screenshot or two, you're not developing 24/7 so at the end of a day sit down for a minute and go... "hey guys we haven't got much to show, but we're in the process of looking at x, y and z." Consider that we're sat waiting to spend money on a game we are really looking forward to and appreciate your efforts. We aren't asking for a lot, just communication.

At no point have I said "release it now". I'm simply stating my opinion, that the way they've handled this development period is poor. You don't find large games such as COD being put back months and months because they changed their minds on certain aspects of the game, it's planned out and they don't frustrate the community by posting one thing and doing another. I'm also not a rhinocrunch subscriber. -

I didn't realise you'd have trouble understanding that concept, there was me thinking it was sensible to suggest that when a company says one thing and does another that it's not going to be considered the best business model. I can't judge if the company cares more about the product quality than the profit as there currently is no product. As I've heard rumours that the game on release will be missing certain parts, such as vehicles which is a rather large part of the game... it would seem as though they are in fact releasing a game which isn't finished and yet will still carry the price tag. But then I'm sure those that are keen to defend this group of developers will spout that patience is needed. -

I don't have any doubts that they're un-organised. It's such a shame seeing the community slowly lose interest because for some reason, BIS think they can still have the same success if they lie and neglect their potential customers. As much as Rocket can say "it'll be ready when it's ready", they're a business and they're losing customers. -
How do you remove windows 7 as your os?
C h r i s replied to joeharper99's topic in Technology/Programming
Quite frankly this is like a who's who of people knowing jack all about computers. If you've got a legitimate Windows 7 key and for some reason you're convinced the provided disc is 'dodgy' then it's perfectly legal to download an ISO preloaded with SP1. I'll reiterate that this is legal as it's only a trial and still requires activation after 3 days. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/14709-Windows-7-Digital-River-direct-links-Multiple-Languages-X86-amp-X64/page60 Browse to the above link and find the matching ISO for your key. Keep in mind that the thought process of "Ooo I'd quite like to have a free upgrade to Ultimate X64" doesn't work so stop being retarded. You also don't get prompted for a product key on installation, this has nothing to do with a pirated copy of Windows. Moving on... When you do a fresh install of your OS, you will be missing drivers. It is important that you have access to a fresh install of your network drivers otherwise you won't be able to connect to dem interwebs. Your motherboard disc should have these drivers if you have it. If you don't have this disc, find out what motherboard you have or if it's a prebuilt model from a company such as HP or Dell, the PC model... and grab a friends computer with a USB stick and download the drivers from the website. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't comment. You may or may not realise, your ill informed advice could actually affect someone. -
You can travel almost anywhere on 2 jerry cans if the chopper is fully fixed, remember that when you take off don't waste time gaining altitude just get going. As long as it's not a hotspot area such as Cherno, go to your nearest fuel spot and stick a couple more cans in. Now you're ready to pick a remote quiet fueling spot (such as the far far north west barn ;) ) . A few tips for you: - Zombies cannot attack you when you are stood at the sides of the helicopters. They will attack and break the glass when you enter though, so when you're wanting to take off, kill all zombies, enter as pilot, start the engine and press eject. This will allow the rotor to wind up and when it's ready hop in for a speedy get away. - Using the above, if you park your chopper with the blades just over the top of the fuel tank, you can position yourself at a point close enough to spin fuel. This is where you don't move (no use of W, A, S, D) and simply scroll "fill jerrycan", swivel, scroll "fuel chopper". Using this method you can ignore animation timings and fill up a chopper in ~5-10 mins on your own. You also can't get attacked by Z's. Hope this helps.

Have it beached (not fully) in a coastal area away from large towns/cities. They will become a cluster fuck without a massive ship in the harbour. Quick question, is there a reason why the textures in the first image are ... awful? It looks like something made 10 years ago. I look at the fantastic textures in ARMA 3 and compare them to these and it's just disappointing. If you're taking this amount of time creating a game, start from scratch. Don't use a modified, dated ARMA 2.5 engine. If you don't have the resources to do this, you surely should've made use of the ARMA 3 engine. I'll emphasise that the DayZ standalone has (or should I say 'had') far more interest than ARMA 3 and yet I get the feeling it's going to be just a more in-depth version of the Mod without updating the physics and game mechanics. Look at the fluidity of Battlefield 3 movement and it's embarrassing how clunky Arma as a series is. The gun control is woeful. When I hear the lead developer of the game say his favourite bit is the clothing... for fuck sake that is awful. This is a zombie apocalypse game, not Make Me a Model 2013. -
RIP GB Wireworld Vanilla DayZ Server - It was a lot of fun!

As Phil stated, I believe the server lacks the necessary anti-hacks and management from an admin team, that a buggy game requires. The recent frustration was caused by a random reduction in administrative support from 3 to 1 and a build up of disappointing lack of rule enforcement as well as game breaking dev builds (which to me are more annoying than anything). I've come to accept that wireworld will always have drawbacks where other servers don't. Other servers enforce rules, make use of anti-hack software and spread the administrative workload between numerous people. As Mac wishes to keep all cards held to his chest, there's always going to be annoyances. This is fair enough, he pays for the server and we choose to play on it, however, I want to have fun, not run round on an empty server or discover bugs in dev builds. With that in mind, I can't see myself playing on wireworld anymore. I realise that I'm probably coming across quite angry/cross when you come to read my posts - I'm not, I'm just disappointed that a server I've absolutely loved playing on has gone downhill so drastically. I don't like certain players and I'm quite expressive when it comes to this. This doesn't mean I'm sour or nasty, just speak my mind. If you've spoken to me on TS you'll know that I don't take things too seriously, but judge as you will. I want to apologise to the BABO group for the previous accusations of hacking, bit of a shame it all happened. Cheers, Chris. P.S. A tip for the future - if you're wanting to attract players, bring back the fight nights. They're the single best thing I've done on DayZ to date, they were fantastic Mac. If I got the invite, I'd be there. -

I'm not whining, just stating my opinion. Mac's illness is irrelevant of my comments, don't bring that up. If he wanted to broadcast it to the internet he would do it himself. I'll highlight that you hacked the server because you felt nothing was being done, you're just about the worst person to comment on my post. Definition of a 'Brown noser': When someone sucks up so badly to another person, that they are literally up their ass 24/7, which gives them the brown nose. -

Unfortunately Mac, you've currently got a drained community. Most have stopped playing on the server altogether, some like myself play far less nowadays. This isn't because we don't like the game, more how Wireworld as a server is managed. You're very closed off as to what people say about the server as you're either never online to hear it, or if you are, you don't listen when we say anything to you. The largest group on the server is a group of combat loggers. Ask anyone outside of their group what their thoughts on Niek is and 9 out of 10 will say he's a little shit or something along those lines (choose your word of profanity). However, instead of banning him you jump into our channel laugh and say he's only young and leave it at that. As a result, there's no structure, no discipline and so the faith in your ability to manage the server grows thin. If I bring up the whole hacking/scripting topic, quite frankly it's a joke. I believe I'm correct in saying that this server has no anti-hack software in place, at that point I'd like to highlight the main reason you set up this server was to get away from hacking. Following quite a few suspicious moments myself and Andy encouraged Papa to implement Gotcha Anti-Hack in an attempt to reduce the chance that the community contains cheats. He looked into it, implemented it, only for you to come on and tell him to remove it because you didn't know how to whitelist players... Let's face it, I'd like to see how many successful gaming servers have no anti-hack implemented and 1 inactive admin. I've now played on this server for 7 months, the only reason I still play is because of the people I know. -

Unfortunately I've played on this server for long enough to know that if you just put up with issues nothing happens. Mooseriders were suspected by my group for a very long time, they went under the radar whilst cheating for far too long and were only found out when a player (not an admin) did the necessary to investigate. I'd like to see your reaction if you suspected me of scripting and just responded with "it's just desync". -

Initially I suggested Godmode as it allows a player to survive more than you should survive, which is what happened. When I shoot a player that many times with an MK Mod, I don't expect them to survive. If your entire squad was there and I'd shot Zohn 10 times with an MK Mod only for you guys to kill me and blood bag him, that to me is unfair. Frankly at the moment, this glitch to me is pretty game breaking. A large squad effectively becomes a lot tougher because unconscious team mates become Chuck Norris. Add to the fact that the only person I've encountered this happening to is Zohn. I previously shot him 4 times with a DMR in cherno and guess what... he survived. If you look at the post I made, I said it's either a glitch in the game or cheating. I attempt to keep an open mind when things like this happen, but when I kill you and it's only Zohn (aka the Terminator) who turns into Jesus, the probability of it being a glitch and not player specific, reduce. You and Faffy took it upon yourselves to act as if it was caused by Zohn's dial up connection, you discounted every other option. Hence my retaliation against your intellect. I'll reserve judgement of other players until further anti-hack preventions are implemented. -

Unsure what others think of the video below but it keeps happening when I attempt to kill [bABO] Zohn. Personally I'm beginning to find Wireworld to be under managed when it comes to anti-hack and discipline. There are known combat loggers and they literally don't give a shit because Mac doesn't care. We've had a few groups hacking and it took ages for them to be banned. Mooseriders only got banned because Truedat resorted to cheating himself in order to investigate and honestly I'm inclined to do the same when I come across something like this. If I had been killed before I sprayed him in the head, his friends could've run over and blood bagged him. It's either a glitch in the game or foul play, it is not de-sync like they're saying. I began recording a good 30-40 seconds after I'd first shot him. I'd hit him with a load of bullets then went to kill Infy, realising he was still alive I ran up to him and sprayed him with bullets from point blank. When he didn't die I began recording. http://youtu.be/rJQNZK4Lt2w -

The tents have disappeared or the DMR and NVGs have? I'm aware that inventory items take a while to register in the database, therefore logging out shortly after picking up an item will lose it. But this is to combat duping, so it's needed and just something you will learn to deal with, the same as jumping off a cliff kills you so you don't do it. As for tents disappearing, I'm not too sure. I don't personally feel it necessary to hoard any more so have very little interaction with tents. Tents are obviously a record in the database so asking Papa or Mac should shed some light. -

The most entertaining thing I've ever done on DayZ is kidnapping. Knock a guy out, bandage him and load him into a car. It's brilliant until they wake up and start stealing your guns from your backpacks or car!
