RIP GB Wireworld Vanilla DayZ Server - It was a lot of fun!
C h r i s replied to wireworld's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I never mentioned grouping up and driving round in cars looking for other players. There's any number of ways to play this game, I didn't always shoot everything on sight. If I was you I'd discover the confounding factor that loot isn't everything, it's how you play and how you achieve that adrenaline rush. Interact with players, lay traps, create a party bus, stick a tent in Elektro full of guns when the server is busy, suicide bomb in a chopper, chase people with hatchets, be a dick and DMR shop kids in Elektro from the sniper hill. Just remember that it's a game, losing gear is fine. -

Perhaps you should change your play style, I can't imagine how terribly dull it must be to wander round looking for tents. FYI - most, if not all tents, will now be hidden in rocks or buildings so your wandering round aimlessly is going to be 99% fruitless. -

I see what you mean, I believe you're correct in being annoyed in this situation. They shouldn't have logged back in and killed you, that's combat logging. They should've logged out and contacted you to say they had a bug and have had to log out. Whoever that was out of the BABO group should be killed by admin. -

It is not a server administrator's role to look after you when you disconnect from the server unless it's a fault with the server. As no-one else disconnected, it is highly likely that it was in fact your system or network connection that was to blame. I can say that it is highly unlikely that you were subjected to a denial of service attack through a bombardment of TCP packets though. If you believe, however, that this is the case reporting it to your ISP will get the issue confirmed. It is unlikely to solve the problem as the legislation behind DOS attacks is complicated, but finding out if in fact a player is subjecting others to DOS attacks will result in them being banned from the server. If you have problems on the server, feel free to speak with myself about them. I'm not an admin, but I might be able to help anyway. I feel as though a lot of the complaints on this thread are misguided and uneducated, unfortunately it's tarnishing the appearance of the server though. -

Yeah, it's quite common to get DDOS'ed for your DayZ equipment. They probably wanted your compass, they're really sought after. I'm surprised Mac, Jack or Papa didn't do anything about your internet disconnecting. When my internet disconnected once, Mac gave me a foot rub whilst Papa rang my ISP to complain, but I guess that's because I'm friends with them. -

To be honest, a player 'stuck' in a helicopter after it being shot down definitely shouldn't relog whilst there's a player round, let alone relog then kill him. But then I'd expect nothing other than glitch abuse by the BABO group. -

Let's get things straight. There is only one admin who bans & disciplines players and that is the owner of the server Mac. All complaints should be sent to his email address. What he does is up to him, he pays for the server we don't. If you don't like it then leave. Combat logging - disconnecting after dying is not combat logging. Just because the body disappears doesn't mean the player did anything wrong, they simply left a game after dying. It's a mod not a standalone game, there are expected frustrations when playing so deal with it. To admins: What I want adding is side chat and death messages, both would help. There is NO community on this server, it's groups of players sitting in different rooms on TS doing PVP. I heard it was removed due to arguments and foul language... This game is about collecting guns, surviving zombies and killing players... It's not Club Penguin so face the fact that swearing and abuse is a way players communicate. Mac - please remove the access to the teleportation tool the shop players have access to. It's full on bullshit that I hear Stearns Aliv3 etc. teleport round the map at free will. Enforcing rules needs to be kicked into gear, there are FAR too many complaints on this thread. -

Also, if you're that paranoid about being shot in the pack become a bandit, I haven't seen mine in a while... Bandits annoyingly don't get the pleasure of having a visual backpack unless viewed from a significant distance. ;) -

Always could, it's classed as being shot in the back. Remember that a character model isn't as advanced as you might think, just a bunch of polygons knitted together so a 'pack' is just an extrusive addition to this. As far as I'm aware, you don't have to shoot the pack. It's simply the death animation if you're wearing the pack. -

That guy is a good pilot, but he's sat practising flying on Arma2 and he's showing you his highlights, not his crash 'n' burn moments. I play DayZ, if I crash or make a mistake I have to either fix my chopper or spend hours/days looking for a new one. -

Me, Jay, Papa and Andy once took out the Sandy off-road by chasing it in the huey. Safe to say it's pretty difficult to stay close enough and level enough to let them aim at a vehicle driving along... -

Problem is with that is that you wouldn't know how the other groups are progressing and it's a lot more luck based on what loot you find... My suggestion would be more team based with pilot skill and team communication being vital. You'd also have 10 helicopters attempting to fly in the same direction... would be amazing fun! -

Seeing as you're a fan of the idea I'll throw some suggestions as to how it could work... Everyone gets divided into groups of 2-3 (1 Pilot, 1-2 Gunners). Each group is then given a chopper containing 2 extra M240 rounds so that they can reload. The first round takes place at the North East Airfield where the choppers and players spawn. The server gives a go signal and choppers can take off, no guns to be shot until the 1 minute take-off period is over (signalled by another server message). Pilots have to stay close to NE airfield, DQ'ed if flying off. Last chopper in the air wins. You could also have differing rounds where each team has a little bird and they have to race from Berezino round the coast to Cherno stopping at 4 different points to collect required objects from set out tents (4 wheels to fix a bus in Elektro). Winner is the group to fix the bus and drive away.
