Oh Sula Sula Sula.... My heart pains for this. If you accidentally overload a tent and place one too many items "Over the Quota" OR you accidentally pack a tent with gear in it, scan around the tent (sometimes quite widely) and you WILL find the "missing" gear. nothing disappears, it just throws it on the ground nearby. One tent I overloaded threw the stuff 20 feet behind the tree that the tent was hidden in, but it was all there. It also will not usually spread the items around, but in a pile, so it's easier to find a bunch of items than say, one m1911 magazine. And congrats on joining the ranks of the paranoid hoarders. :D P.S. don't take a freakout if it disappears one day - usually a server reset or two later, it will be back. happens all the time on certain servers.

Collection of Server Owners/Admins
Highspiral replied to (OCN)xXxALLANxXx's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
:beans: :beans: :beans: :beans: This! Too many servers that I have NO IDEA who to contact for support (not that I've needed any, but just saying...) or who runs it. I have a very legitimate reason to want to know, because I'm putting up tents and having servers disappear with all my gear, I'd like to know If the server's going down in advance so I can clear out my stuff (BTW thanks to whoever administered US PA1 for the clear and early warnings about the server going offline! I was able to move out safely without incident) If I was aware of who runs it, I'd also be more inclined to show some FINANCIAL support to keep it going. I don't want to go private hive, I like being out there in the public realm but so many servers have NO contact information to be found ANYWHERE. Contact information is not always simply a channel for someone to bitch at you, In my case I might be willing to help you out. Highspiral -
I'm going to miss that nice soft patch of grass in the corner of the living room. *sniff*

NOT THIS. Every dog would be KOS if this were implemented. Unless dogs with satchel charges automatically got a Keffiyeh (headscarf) so as to be easily recognized, like a bandit skin.

There's a UH1H (or something like that) on the runway at the NWA on US 2826 IP 108.61.44.218:2302 (LOL it's got 4 Cokes in it if you're thirsty) And a main Rotor assembly (and other junk) right outside the door of the southern barracks on US 2192 IP 108.60.155.218:2402 That stuff is about as useful to me as socks on a rooster. But it seemed a shame to waste. This ain't bait - I'm a lover not a fighter, check the tone of any of my posts. Have fun. Highspiral

It was there yesterday, so not sure about today, I'm nowhere near there now, and It was LAGGY for me - so I doubt I'm visiting that server again. I get low ping, but it's like molasses for some reason.

You're always avoiding the ban, but you'd have more friends if you used it more regularly

With the amount of constant, vociferous complaining that goes on here about an alpha version of a mod, and many of THOSE players specifically "WAITING" for the stand alone, I'm dreading what is going to happen when they don't get the polished product that deep in their heart they're actually expecting. Even though everyone KNOWS it's going to be an alpha, and it's been stated so many times that it's going to be released quickly in an un-polished state, and thwarting hackers is going to be as much of a tug of war as every other fps online game, the build up, and anticipation of the community may overwhelm the fledgeling stand alone, when those vocal few flood the Internet with criticism. If we don't continue our POSITIVE support of the good and enjoyable aspects, it may fail and leave nothing to play AT ALL. I don't care about the engine, or the graphics or a lot of other detail things - DayZ as a CONCEPT has caught and holds MY attention. I think there is a silent majority who would agree. We unconditional supporters need to speak up.

One thing I'm concerned with is judgement RE: clothing - I wear a Ghillie suit and carry an L85, but I'm not out PK'ing - it's all about knowing where everybody ELSE is, and not being seen. Be careful not to countersnipe paranoid survivors or other countersnipers.

This Is A Sad, Sad Day.
Highspiral replied to The Stoned Wolf's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"The hand of Z" - Yeah, Steak and Potatoes got a little metaphorical there but I got it - It's like DayZ itself just kills you occasionally for the random fun of it. the "hand of DayZ". Running around for weeks, looking for helicopters just for the enjoyment of seeing that crashsite over the next hill, or stumbling across a well hidden tent, (or a poorly hidden campground). Seeing other people and watching them, hoping not to be seen or approached, deciding what kind of player they are from their behavior. Trying desperately to find and keep a bicycle on every server I frequent. I have yet to kill a rabbit. Wasted ammo yes, shot one that was running, no. Screwing with people in "good ways"... I once found a tent inside a ruined church. I later found a fully intact tractor. I drove the tractor over to the ruins, and (after about 47 frontwards backwards turn-a-little-bit moves) parked it right near his tent. without squishing it. LOL I just wish I had a chance to see the look on his face :) I could go on, but you've got the idea. And I'm still looking for my first M4A1 CCO SD. and looking, and looking,,, :( -

Just when I think "no one plays this game like I do", you post this. My least favorite way to die - death by glitch. :( And DAMN I still want to find that M4 CCO SD. Day 22 and still no joy. Good luck in your new life. -
That's very inspirational.

Highspiral replied to Mudpuppy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sula, I think anyone who places a tent knows they're taking that chance. some people even place tents in easily found locations for the benefit of others. Tent looting and banditry are on completely different levels. Understand also, people keep their most precious gear on them at all times. -

I've done exactly what you're describing when I needed to. It was awesome being able to gear up without spending hours and hours sorting through tin cans and Jack Daniels bottles. And then there have been tents that had nothing I've needed. I have a few tents, and I don't even mind if I notice a few things missing, as long as it's not completely empty. I figure I've made someone's day on a couple of occasions. What I don't understand are the players who loot everything and then destroy the tents. Totally uncool. Just don't click "save tent" when you take something, as the tent then has a chance of respawning what you took at the server restart, and then the owner won't even miss a thing. Tent Ninja -

G17 Although I'm leaning toward carrying the pdw. I'm just so damned good at getting 40-50 Meter headshots with that G17 sight picture... sigh Rick - Silenced pdw is hacked in. P.S. - just because something looks like a "natural" spawn doesn't mean it is. My son found a G36C Camo in the barracks and was very tempted to take it because it looked like it belonged there - 3 mags sitting with it in that oh so familiar "Take me and pull my trigger" way... But it's not in the database, and it's not worth tempting fate and the server logs.

Possibly just Internet myth, but I once heard of a minister signing a condolance letter to a churchmember with "LOL" because he thought it meant "Lots of Love" "Sorry to hear your mother died - we are praying for your family" LOL! Pastor billy I ROFLed

I think of this game as a survival / scavenger hunt. I derive pleasure from gathering things and finding rare items, killing zombies, and "wabbit hunting" It's quite fun to be a "fly on the wall" too - I've watched a few survivors moving about, doing their scavenging and running from zombies etc... I don't need to ruin other people's day in order to be happy. Maybe I've got "too much empathy", but I know how It feels to get shot for no apparent reason, and the only times I've shot people have been in self defense. In at least 2 cases, gunfire was exchanged probably as a misunderstanding due to my slow reaction time, and the fact that in DayZ your character points the weapon threateningly by default, andI'm too slow with my seldom used direct chat button. If I want to shoot people, I'll play BF3. Killing and dying is the point, and no tears need be shed on either side. If I want terror and excitement and fear of death, I'll take passenger and let my wife drive us somewhere the highway. (that's "dual carriageway" or "Autobahn" for you folks across the pond).

Excellent err... "Photography" ? you've got that storytelling skill. My favs are definitely the "van in a tree" or is it a "tree in a van" ? And the Bored zombie as disinterested forum reader at the end. :beans: :beans: :beans: :beans:

True smasht, but it's YOUR gear I'm attached to.... Tents. multiple. Several tents, several servers. Dying was upsetting and disappointing, but It's not as bad as loosing 3 tents full of high end gear when you favorite server goes dead forever, but It does teach you to be prepared for the inevitable. The gear you mentioned was what I call "good" - as in I'm comfortable with it, it's good enough to use effectively, and it's all easily replaced: Alice packs - not the largest but an easy find in a grocery store G17 - my favorite - It's essentially a hand held sniper rifle for Zeds and ammo is prevalent (G17, M9, M9SD mags) AK47 Kobra is more accurate, but CCO takes Stanags / Stanag SD - both easily found. Play smart and don't be so sure you're going to die - I'm on Day 22. My best run yet. B) -
