For further realism you should make sounds louder at night. The science behind this is explained here: http://www.acs.psu.edu/drussell/Demos/refract/refract.html Of course, that's not going to make it easier for players who are already scared of playing at night in DayZ...

Some guy ambushed me as I was leaving the Cherno firestation, he was laying in wait prone in the grass and failed so hard he didn't even hit me once with his gun, I was spinning around and commando rolling for about 20 seconds before I spotted where the shots were coming from, promptly killed him with my M1911...and it showed as a 'murder'...making me a bandit. And you're saying people like me should be penalised for self defence? No thanks.

Military weapons are useless

Its no more dangerous than raiding a barn to pick up military weapons at deer stands or crashed helis. You won't find silenced weapons in barns, silenced weapons have obvious benefits over your barn weapons, I currently have a silenced MP5 (quietest gun in the game) and while I did find this in the NW Airfield Barracks, I also have a Bizon PP90 with silencer which came with 5 mags of silenced ammo each with 60 rounds each (300 rounds total) all obtained safely from a crashed heli - we sniped the zombies around it first before moving in to loot it. So you can see, it is quite safe to obtain military weapons if you know what you are doing and where to look, and they have advantages barn weapons simply don't have. -

Your desciption is not very clear but if you mean you have the hour glass thing for five minutes, this happens if you were injured when you logged out. It is intended to stop people disconnecting to avoid death.

You can find any military item except NVGs in deer stands (except some of the british weapons which are found at crashed helis)

After many days of playing, surviving bandit attacks and zombies, I had all the gear I wanted except for NVGs, so decided to go to the Barracks at NW airfield. Stealthed my way in after scoping it for ages, entered the barracks, there were two dead guys in there from an obvious shoot out. I went to the back of the barracks, opened the door to a bunk room, door crushed me, instantly dead...

Changes in player behaviour due to no weapon at spawn

Since the change was introduced where new characters spawn with no weapon, I have noticed the following changes in player behaviour: 1. More player are suiciding to spawn closer to Cherno/Elektro. For instance, if you spawn at Kamenka and run to Cherno I guarantee you will come across between 5-8 players who have suicided to get a city spawn. 2. KoS is still happening, only now players attempt to kill you with wacky weapons like the hatchet or the crossbow if they have not found anything better. 3. Even more player concentration around Cherno/Elektro because players with nothing are not going to head into the wilderness when they need food, drink and morphine etc, and know these can be found quickly in the cities. 4. Nearly all new players I see are running along the coast with a train of several zombies following them. This is quite simply hilarious but I can't help feeling sorry for them (and often put them out of their misery) as they have little to no chance or ability to lose the train or to stop and find a weapon before they hit the city, where they will inevitably get killed due to lack of stealth. Has anyone else changed the way they play or noticed changes in other players behaviour since spawning with no gun was introduced??? -

Really? So people were trying to kill you with a hatchet prior to the change? Not possible, dear sir. Also you must be blind if you think that before the change there were so many players running from trains of Zombies from spawn. The other points are observational. I strongly believe them true based on personal experience of before and after but have no hard evidence. -
Melee: Hatchet: Dual Purpose makes it more useful than crowbar Crossbow: The only weapon in its class and to be honest it still sucks Sidearms: M1911. Not as sexy as an M9 SD but more practical for ammo (especially now ACP can be combined), holds more ammo in a clip than a revolver and is one hit kill on head or chest. Shotguns: Winchester: Ammo is everywhere and this is one deadly and still relatively quiet Mofo Assault Rifles: AKM: Ammo is relatively plentiful, it has higher calibre rounds than M4 or M16, can zero sights, Iron sights are relatively easy to use Snipers: I like the CZ because ammo is plentiful and can be zeroed for high accuracy but haven't tried many snipers as I don't PK unless I need to. LMG: The SAW for ammo flexibility and max capacity and rate of fire
