Weapon Customisation

Actually I'm not entirely sure about the 30-06, but you can get M24's in .338 Lapua and .300 Winchester Magnum. -

Haha you're good. To my knowledge it was going to be exclusively used as 30-06, but they switched to using 7.62x51 most of the time. I'm not quite sure. Could have been something to do with cost. -

Actually to my knowledge the M24 was developed to be able to switch from 7.62x51 to 30-06. -

You obviously don't have experience with real weapons. Changing calibers is pretty difficult (if at all possible) unless the weapon was specifically made with that in mind. As the above poster said we are talking about tac lights, lasers, optics, maybe grenade launchers, and suppressors. You can attach something do your gun that directly increases stopping power. Things can indirectly increase stopping power. For instance different barrels increase or decrease accuracy at lengths. Things like optics will make you more accurate (most likely). But nothing takes a bullet and says, "You are now more powerful." -

The thing is you can do most modifications on the fly. -

Depends on what type of scope, but generally no. Some optics you just put on the rail and screw it down with screws mounted on the optics. -

As far as the actual mounting of optics on the rifle, it's very easy (at least on M4 style rifles). It probably wouldn't be zeroed however. -

I do hope they model the optics after real life optics and require you to have the correct rail for that specific optic (i.e. picitanny). And obviously you can't just slap a silencer (suppressor) on any old barrel. So they should implement threaded barrels. -
I'm new, where should I start?
TacticalN29 replied to MrONEBADDUDE (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
ARMA is definately worth it, but not everyone has money for both. I personally would wait for the SA if I didn't already have the mod. -
Do you think that REAL reload animations would be important for the Standalone?
TacticalN29 replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would love to see it buts its not too important -

I personally would wait for the SA unless you want base ARMA as well. -
I do remember him wearing that. I'm not entirely sure how much variety there will be with clothing or if certain items will work better than others (i.e. different types of footwear like boots, or sneakers).

They've already said you will be able to store items in your jeans pockets so who knows what they've got for that.

Current problems with the Steam version of DayZ mod
TacticalN29 replied to Dancing.Russian.Man's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah I know haha! Just a logical deduction. -
There has not been any mention of a bridge, so I'm going to assume you will need a boat or helicopter to get there.

"Stability issues from last week resolved this morning, which means... Limited capacity testing has BEGUN. 30 keys were issued today for this." From Rocket's twitter. Granted it's a very small group, but at least some external testing has begun. Like I said if nothing goes horribly wrong it shouldn't be long now. This tweet was also from three days ago so they probably issued more keys by now. -

They actually did start capacity testing. I'm pretty sure not all of the people that were testing were internal. -
What weapons damage helicopters?

TacticalN29 replied to Dancing.Russian.Man's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Did not know they released it on steam until now. I can see how it would be easy, but I can also see what you're saying. I don't know why they just didn't wait for the SA seeing as they have started external testing it will most likely be released within 2 weeks if nothing goes horribly wrong. -
What is your Dream Vision for Dayz - 2 Years from now?

So what will happened when the SA releases?
TacticalN29 replied to pr3llox's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I just started playing PS2! It's pretty good for a F2P. -

TacticalN29 replied to pr3llox's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would imagine at least 90% of people who played the mod would buy it. Then there would be people who just notice it on steam. Plus if they do any marketing. I would venture a guess that it will eventually sell more than the mod. -
I have not played Namalsk, but I have heard that the bloodsuckers become just annoying after a while. I don't know though.

So what should DayZ "feel" like?
TacticalN29 replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It should feel like any of the above depending on how you play. Obviously you can survive in the wild with water cans and meat. Or you can raid high risk areas. Obviously there's not much you can do with the base building aspect yet, but I think once the standalone releases they might start working on it.
