  1. Basically what it is, is that if the devs want there to be only one M107 on every server in the hive there will only be one. That way they can regulate the super high powered weapons.
  2. I'm not dead set on it, but I would definitely like it and it would be, in my opinion, more realistic. However there definitely needs to be a variety. I think that fireamrs and ammunition across the board (doesn't matter what type) should be quite a bit more rare.
  3. Yes, but people don't seem to understand that countries other than the U.S. use M4's, M16's or other "modern" "Western" weapons. It's not even that modern as the M16 has been in use by the U.S. Military since Vietnam. That kind of looks like this optic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M145_Machine_Gun_Optic#M145_Machine_Gun_Optic But it's hard to tell with that quality.
  4. "The Chernarus of DayZ is a fictitious creation that’s "generic country with significant Russian influence in its past" that more recently has had a great influence from the West. Its not unlike Czech Republic in that regard and so when myself and Ivan Buchta (our ambassador to Chernarus) created the wish lists of weapons, gear, and player clothing, it was done with that in mind. I even went so far as to gather gun ownership statistics in CR, which, incidentally, has some of the most accommodating gun laws for civilian ownership in Europe. What I found was that CR is ranked in the top third of gun owners per capita. There's approximately 300k registered gun owners who own ~700k firearms between them. This doesn't include those with illegal guns and you can bet there are a fair number of those too. This contained the greatest variety and can include anything from AR15s to civilianized AKs (such as Vepr), Glocks, Desert Eagles...pretty much anything you can think of can be found in the country. Next is the police - there's ~42k police officers in the CR and they seem to use both western and eastern weapons. I've found pics of SWAT-style units in Prague with MP5k and MP5s, Glocks, Benelli shotguns, and an assortment of CZ pistols, SMGs, and rifles (of course). Last comes military and there's ~23k soldiers. These guys use anything from your assorted CZ arms like the police, as well as M4 variants, M60s, MP5SDs, SVDs, OP96s, some tricked out Sako rifles, etc... and I think this type of model (although we can embellish the selection of specific things with specific ‘types of things’) is a good one to follow. So I'm looking at these stats and I read comments on the forum and I wonder "do people think DayZ is set during the Cold War era". Then I would understand why most guns need to be Eastern-ish, historic peculiarities. But if DayZ is set in the present day (or slight future), then it’s totally appropriate to have an eclectic mixture of things. There will be some older, historic firearms from the East, like the Mosin, and some newer ones from the West, like a customizable M4. If I recall, the weapon list is ~50% "eastern stuff" so its not exactly a Russian gun enthusiasts wet dream but I hope that which was chosen will appeal to a broad range of people." This was posted in another thread by this guy ---> http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/user/148046-scubaman3d/ So just because the Czech Republic used to be a satellite country of the Soviet Union doesn't mean it can't use "western weapons". Anyway though Glock is Austrian. H&K (the makers of the MP5) are German. Beretta is based in Italy I believe. Not all guns other than Russian guns are made in America.
  5. I feel like there's a major balance that needs to be had between no military weapons, and military weapons everywhere. But back to the post. I personally don't know if I've ever heard of a Police officer or Soldier or Marine, etc. saying that their sight broke. I mean sure everything can break, but I would think you would have to deliberately bash the optic against a wall or something.
  6. Actually as far as I know most optics are quite resilient. I don't think they would be charging $1,000 for a EoTech Holographic sight if it was just going to break.

    More antiquated yet effective weapons.

Probably quite similar to the Mosin. In the mod I believe the Lee is one of the loudest weapons in the game. Not sure though.

    More antiquated yet effective weapons.

That's a wide assortment! But yeah just because it's an Eastern European country doesn't mean they can only use Russian weapons.

Ah. You're not wrong. Haha! That's interesting though considering they didn't confirm any Mausers. Someone mentioned scopes on the Mosin. They did manufacture some with scopes on them, but they were only 4x scopes. The one of the Mosin's I shot has a variable strength, long eye relief pistol scope. That took a couple tools to afix to the rifle, but it was not very difficult.

Mosin Nagant already confirmed (nothing about which model). As far as the picture, I can't tell for sure, but that could also be a Mosin. I know what they look like as I've shot a 91/30 in real life.
  11. When you install ARMA II and Operation Arrowhead you need to start them. Let them run until the main menu screen. At this point you can exit. You shall not exit past this point, nor before this point. This shall be the point you exit..... Anyway.. If you download DayZ Commander you can then download the ARMA II beta patch and the DayZ files very easily. DayZ Commander is free. You can join servers from it etc.

It's July, where is the Standalone?

He never said that they would release it in June, nor did he say that they would give us a release date in June. He said they would re-evaluate the status of the SA. It sounds to me though that once they fix the current major bugs, it will be very close to releasing.

Ballistic vest/chest rig idea for standalone.

It would be cool if they had different play styles. People who preferred large backpacks or people who preferred plate carriers etc. An interesting point is that plate carrier I linked earlier (I think it was that one) doesn't have a back piece. So you really could carry a backpack with it on.

I don't know how much knowledge you have about plate carriers, but I would personally like to have one if crap hit the fan. You can store a lot of stuff in them. You don't even need the plates for them to be useful. There's one plate carrier you can buy (don't remember what it is) that carries like 6 or 7 STANAG mags without adding any pouches onto the Molle. http://www.blackhawk.com/product/Enhanced-Commando-Recon-Harness,756,83.htm Just for reference it's that one. Plus you can add Molle pouches to hold more handgun or rifle magazines, or pouches to hold other things. As far as carrying them all the time, like has been previously stated the Military uses them all the time while operating. Including in Afghanistan where it gets very, very hot. But again we're talking about civvies here (the DayZ character you play).

    Double post for some reason.

Yeah. Or if you were a civvie probably would be in your house. And if you had a plate carrier with plates you probably would have (at the very least) a bug-out bag.

I would rather have the Military guarding bases too. But yeah back to the topic. I think if they added plate carrier and plates separately and made plates very rare that would be cool.

Sort of. There's still MP's, but I've heard that private companies are taking over their base security. I guess they still do overseas base security, warzone base security, etc. I can't really say for sure whether that's true though. Other people can definitely influence you. No doubt about that. By psuedo I take it your a PMC?

Drinking restrictions won't have an affect on me. As in I don't and won't be drinking (not because I'll drink anyway). I've heard that MP's are under appreciated. I've heard that the government has been contracting out base security stateside recently. They basically can do all the infantry can do plus more.

Not quite out of high school yet. Most likely to enlist in the Army or Marine Corp as an MP.

Sorry rucksack. Large Alice to be specific. On the Appalachian Trail. Uphill, level, downhill. Rocks, mud, creeks. It's a very nice area. You Military?

I'm sure it does. But it's better than 45 pounds in a backpack. The plate carriers distribute weight more evenly rather than carrying it off your back. Which isn't even that bad (I've hiked with a 40 pound backpack).

Yeah generally civvies wouldn't be able to do that kind of stuff.

    This is true.

I believe they weigh about 45 pounds. And I've seen combat engineers in the U.S. Army doing PT with them on. Pull-ups, rope climbing, etc.
