Why are so many 'Bronies' into DayZ?
DR@GON (DayZ) replied to Jony_RocketInMyPocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bronies are naturally attracted to anywhere there are epic levels of butthurt & anal leakage, like sharks in a feeding frenzy, they just cant help it. Don't fight nature -
The best worst game ever!!!!!!!!!
DR@GON (DayZ) replied to levi4than's topic in New Player Discussion
another butthurt post about cheating... wow! you aren't playing a finished product, you're helping to test a mod that will become it's own game soon. Sounds like you're just assuming everything bad that happened to you was caused by cheaters, when some of it was prob in game glitches. The MOD is in ALPHA, don't expect perfection, balance, or to get your money back. Get a backbone and help make this game better by being constructive, or shove off and play something else -
I'm jealous that you ran into a cheater who was actually able to be killed... they've all been immortals for me lately

Introduction and First DayZ Experience
DR@GON (DayZ) replied to X_296's topic in New Player Discussion
great post! I can't believe how much this game immerses you and give you a sense of fear and desperation at first! Also, you dont know how lucky with loot you are! That gun you passed up would have been worth taking without ammo, because it has a thermal scope and most people use it just to scout with. I had a chuckle when you couldn't figure out how to take the backpack, but DID figure out everything involved in getting cooked meat. :D -
Thermal, Night Vision and Flashlights.
DR@GON (DayZ) replied to Psychobob's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
- you cannot pin flashlights to shoulder in "offical dayz" - this is on Lingor Island version, would be cool to see it added @snipes... the problem with hiding indoors from thermal is, any building you hide in will spawn zeds, and give your presence away, especially to thermal at night, because you might not have seen 1 thermal object showing up while scanning, but you're certainly gonna see all the zeds, and zeds dont spawn on their own. If thermal isn't removed, than it's range should be nerfed, making it hard to pick up signatures past 500-600 meters maybe (I don't know if this is realistic to the way thermal really works tho). That and batteries should be worth a shot before outright removing them. However, the mod can only do so much and outright removal might be the only option. I think NVGs make night time ops interesting enough without thermal personally Good news - in one of the ARMA3 showcase videos on youtube, the host mentioned a "modular weapon system", I look forward to this for many reasons, but attaching a flashlight to guns w/ a rail system is on topic for this thread... I imagine they would be one of the most common attachment items. -
Progress with the KOS issue?
DR@GON (DayZ) replied to funky_mish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've got the bandit head wrap now unfortunately, tho I guess I deserve it in some ways... I started playing when there was no identifier for players being bandits or heroes, so I adopted a KoS playstyle due to my previous experiences with people claiming to be friendly only to stab me in the back, the rampant cheating has made me twitchy too. Also, I've tried helping noobs, only to have their lack of stealth and com chatter give us away to not so friendly players in the area. I generally don't mind helping players like this out in other games, but in a game where they're more likely to get me killed in the process, my patience runs short. Now that it's more obvious to I.D. players as villians / heroes, I'll likely stick to killing other bandits for the most part. However, I still consider certain areas to be "desperation zones" and I generally don't give or expect mercy in those areas. The coastal cities and airfields are those places. I generally only go to those places when I'm gearing up a fresh spawn and don't like to hang around them looking for trouble. For me, when I kill a player, it's not for easy loot, or the thrill of doing it, simply self preservation in this game. It's really hard to play with a team when you aren't on something like teamspeak... although player skill can change this, and I'm yet to run into someone who's both skilled and willing to hold their fire (other than my clan mates)... lol -
Suggestion: rebalance game with realistic weapon performance/damage.
DR@GON (DayZ) replied to bazbake's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
OP... you put a lot of thought into that and it makes some sense... however, I'd have to say the rifle rounds come out a bit weak it seams... Anyway, with your calcs compared to current damage of weapons in game, it seems to me that they are including the protection a ballistic vest would give you... and rifle rounds are going to penetrate better than pistol or shotguns. Anyway, I'm *NOT (edit lol)* claiming to be an expert, but no one's brought up armor and the complication that adds to all this math. I agree that pistols and shotties seem weaker than they should be. I'd rather see the .50 cals out of the game personally, just for balancing purposes -
it's good to know both how to sneak past them, how to avoid aggro... but it's also important to be good at loosing the aggro when you have it. In general large buildings with multiple exits are the easiest way to loose them, and give you time to bandage if you're bleeding from a hit. I also like to loose aggro without stopping by running thru a pine forest and weaving between the trees to break LOS. Also, as of right now, they cannot hurt you while you're in a vehicle.

Arma 2's mechanics make dayz lame
DR@GON (DayZ) replied to Slobbergoat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's a little clunky, but if you're good at other shooters and give it time, you'll be tearing it up soon enough check this out... -
Arma 2's mechanics make dayz lame
DR@GON (DayZ) replied to Slobbergoat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The only other game engine I'd like to see used would be grand theft auto... but I'd want all the survival aspects kept and more realism added to the gameplay... which would be A LOT of work. Only reason I say this is cause this game set in a more urban environment with more vehicles and no easy escape to "the forest just outside town" to ditch zombie aggro would make it even more terrifying. -

DR@GON (DayZ) replied to Slobbergoat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
lmao, yes a game with no iron sights and no leaning, and no prone would be WAY better... good news... L4D is already available and it's built on the HL engine... bye! -
is there anything "official" posted about this stat? I've got a bandito headwrap on my guy w/ -2600 humanity now that I've upgraded to 1.7.2.5 at what point does this go away... zero? at what point do you get the "hero" skin? Do murders stay with you when you die? (I assume they do since my current spawn has 0 murders) What raises humanity? I assume killing zombies, but it seems slow, are there quicker ways to do this? What happens when you put on camo clothes or a ghillie? My backpack doesnt show up anymore, is this a glitch? It's still functional in my inventory, just doesnt show on my character when im in 3rd person. Thanks!

thanks for the responses :)

[Guide] Setting up an Xbox 360 Controller for DayZ
DR@GON (DayZ) replied to Mucwa's topic in New Player Discussion
I sometimes simulate what it would be like to play with a controller by using mouse + keyboard with oven mitts on and keeping my microphone on all the time so people can hear me breathing, drinking and chewing. lol, had to have a little fun... I'll bet the vehicles drive more naturally with a controller tho. Being able to "hot swap" between a controller and m+kb for vehicle driving might be good, if the game indeed drives better with a controller. I rarely get to drive anything other than a bicycle in this game tho lol My experience with vehicles in DayZ so far... Tractor... rolled backwards into a tree upon entering, crash @ 10 kph max... killed me instantly (first time I got in a vehicle) ATV... was missing a wheel, wanted to see if it would move at all... flung itself into the air a couple hundred feet after a couple seconds of trying to rock it back and forth to see if it would move. I tumbled thru the air like a gymnast figuring I was about to die. Somehow I landed without injury. I thought it was best to destroy it and run like hell and never get in another vehicle again...lol! -
I agree, I love that it's not just a combat game, imo carrying 6-10 mags worth of ammo is just going to resupply whoever kills me lol... also, no way in hell I'm sticking around long enough to fire that many mags, unless I've got some serious backup... and if I do, they've got guns & ammo too, no need for me to be emptying out the armory on a trigger happy 4th of july fireworks show. I often ditch ammo for other supplies when I'm limited on space.

I've been killed by "the ground"... bleeding, massive damage, fractures & k.o. for no reason reason other than I crawled into a glitch spot trying to stay concealed. I've also been lamed by hackers that I got the drop on at least 4 times now, but they turned out to be immortals... and once by a guy who turned out to be invisible and prob had radar cos he attacked a group of 5 survivors working as a team and got me first... I was on overwatch, well hidden in a pine tree w/ a ghillie, and a teammate watching me... all I heard was "crunch crunch" of 2-3 footsteps and silenced full auto fire real close by... he missed somehow and I bolted to a different cover spot... he got me less then a minute later. My buddies stalked him for a while and confirmed he was invisible cos he ran right past them fully audible and in the open, and they saw nothing. anyway, point is, I've had nice kit everytime this crap has happened and I'm still playing. Just make do with what you can find and dont dwell on the loss. :D I agree with playing private hive to "warm up" with a fresh spawn if your public guy's old and you're rusty
-
I use whatever I can find, and try to be good with any weapon... That being said, here are my "rules" of what to look for on a fresh spawn... upgrade from here. Alice Pack 3 water bottles (2 in backpack) tools to gut & cook animals map & compass (I know the map pretty well now and can go without if need be) ghillie or camo clothes if I can find it, can take a while to find = risk of being pk'd med supplies... 4 bandages / 3 morphine / 3 blood bags / 1 epi / 2 painkillers / as many antibiotics as I can find (they are rare) I keep 1 of each on me for quick use, the rest in the backpack for teammates to grab Primary weapons... Ideally I want a full auto capable AR w/ 3-4 mags & a scoped weapon (hopefully w/ adjustable zero) w/ 3-4 mags. Side arm = I like the G17 cos it loads clips for M9 (including M9 SD), and you can split off several other mags into use-able ammo for the G17... also it has a flashlight and high capacity mags... 4 mags carried Philosophy... make due is rule #1, it's a survival game not CoD where you spawn in with your ideal load out... I dont bother carrying 2 guns that fill the same role unless a buddy needs something and I've got room. I generally stay away from shotguns cos I fight at mid to long range usually and even up close, a full auto AR is better than a shottie imo... but again make due... the winchester is a great gun, prob best shottie due to 15 round capacity. Also, I find the primary weapons that use 9mm to be lacking in stopping power. Unless they are silenced I'd say not worth it generally, but I like to put someone down asap if I have to, so I like the big damage guns if I can find them. Unless I have a silenced primary, I use my sidearm for killing zed's & animals, and the primary is for players. This is just a general rule however, if SHTF, do what you gotta do lol. Best all around guns imo are the M14 AIM or the DMR (M14 with scope). Sure they have flaws, but I almost always roll with semi auto even if the gun can go full or burst, so the "semi-auto only" of the M14's in this game is fine by me. DMR mags are pretty common at military spawn spots & soldier zombies. The damage is fantastic... 8000 per hit right now on paper. The FAL is a great gun also (same damage, but can do burst fire), HOWEVER... I have been unable to find ammo for it outside a chopper crash, so if you find one, make sure it has enough ammo to replace whatever you're swapping for, unless you hunt choppers a lot you may not see ammo for it again for a long time. Best "poor man's gun" is the AKM imo... you can find them fairly easy, ammo is pretty common, 30 round mags, and you can re-zero the sights for longer range, and I think it has the most damage per bullet of any full auto capable gun. The M4's and M16's are nice too, a little less damage, but generally nicer sights (I actually prefer the irons on AK's), but the M4's & 16's often spawn with optic upgrades. The M4 CCO or the M16 ACOG are both awesome. The M16 ACOG can fill a sniping role sorta if you learn how to use the scope, and can be 1 gun that fills both roles... it can only do semi or burst tho. An advantage of the M4's & M16's is they can fire SD mags (fairly common loot)...the Zeds will react to them as if they are fired from a silenced weapon, but players will hear it like normal... or so I understand it. I've experimented with this and it SEEMS to be accurate, but dont hold me to it :P

Well, this isnt "simcity: zombieapocalypse" Rocket's concept for the game is more or less centered around PvP... ARMA's not designed to be a game where building things is ever gonna be the focus, getting it to work at all is a stretch for any developer, and will likely be clunky and buggy no matter what. Perhaps you'll get your wish and there will be a non-PvP server setting, but I highly doubt it based on thing's Rocket has said himself
-
perhaps being more patient and more situational awareness is needed. I have a "hold my ground and own it" strategy, and when I move its to cover as fast as possible. Zig zag if you're worried about being shot, but shooting at range in this game isnt easy so, make it hard for em. Again, let go of your attachment... that rusty old gun and warm soda precious to you? You're in a wasteland, dont expect a gold plated AK and Land Rover! Learn from your mistakes and you will find yourself dishing out the pain sooner or later. Don't take it personal, its a video game, you have infinite lives

well, you dont need the best stuff to thrive, you can do pretty damn well with the basics. If you dont want to deal with players, do a mad dash thru one of the cities and get the basics, then get out. If you die trying, then so what, you just spawned, try again. I've found a lot of loot on dead bodies other people left laying by doing this, cuts the initial "setup phase" of my character down drastically. Peek around corners, keep your ears peeled. Movement is the best way to avoid damage, but it also attracts attention, so find a balance and check your 6 Survival by itself isn't as fleshed out as it could be right now, dont know if it will change... Think of it like any other multiplayer shooter, but with much different circumstances and challenges. My advice is join a group, get on their TS (or whatever they use) and work as a team that way. Talking to players in game is great way to attract vultures, so keep it to a minimum. When you're in the city, give no mercy, and expect none... you'll be more successful. Also, don't get attached to your gear, you will die, you will have to start over. When you get "100% geared up" you'll reach a different problem of boredom or not wanting to risk the gear... I say screw it, have fun and don't worry about screwing up. I've been killed by hackers, ground glitches, betrayal, and snipers I never saw... I bounce back every time, and dont dwell on it. A close group of friends to game with makes this much easier.

I get so much as a whiff of hacker and I log off asap... at least this one is being somewhat creative I guess...

Hotfix Build 1.7.2.5 Rolling Update
DR@GON (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
@ Rocket (I hope you see this thru all the senseless NOISE lol) Have you had a modeler do a close inspection of the assets causing the trouble? Could be unwelded vertexes or other modeling errors on a very small scale causing the trouble. I used to clean this sort of crap up for a living and I've untangled quite a few messy models. Anyway, just some fresh food for thought in case it hasn't been considered Keep up the great work, most engaging and innovative game I've played in a very long time
