    Me and a friend where hiking way up North and we came upon something that was not on a single map (experimental branch). a freaking golden castle! There was not much loot tough, just the regular beans and clothing. But it looked pretty awesome.

    Tip one,it can be done with allot of rocks and buildings and it is not post process manipulation (aka photoshop), it can be done ingame.

    I only speak from my experience and I truly never had a single wipe on stable.

    Wipes only happen on the experimental branch, because the server data is most of the time very unstable and crashes allot (at least once each two hours on the current version), because of such a crash your character data (in the private hive of the experimental servers) can get corrupted, due to saving failure.

    Hi, I had an idea for the cooking system. Since there is no real reason why the cooking pot is less effective than a fire-pit to cook meat, I thought maybe "smoking" meat could be added, you know to keep it longer preserved. Because when all systems and mechanics are active, the food is going to degrade. I came on the idea with Sobieski Channel in the comment section of this video Sobieski suggested, when persistent objects exist, maybe one could build a smoke house? To smoke multiple meats and fish at the same time, thus creating a decent supply of smoked meat. You know it can be as simple as this. One could craft it simply with a fire pit, craft a smoke box with some wood (doesn't even need a tunnel), place the box in the fire (like the stones) and voila you've got yourself a smoke house. what do you guys think? Please expand on this idea, I think it might actually be a cool feature.

    Well, that is true, salting is also a great idea. But for game-play and fun's point of view I think smoking should be added to, even if it does not have realistic measures like hours of waiting, I think it would make surviving inside a camp interesting. Like allot of people have mentioned before, its good that the game aims to be realistic, but it should not be hyper realistic. You know find a good balance between realism and fun, after all people need to want to play a game (this phrasing sounds weird sorry). But I totally get your point. And salt in houses would be a common thing indeed.

    DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION

    Well they did only acquire a new render engine to implement in the current engine, it has become a complete new engine by doing that, because update by update more and more core code of the original VR engine got re-written/placed. Now with the renderer being replaced it has become a complete game engine of its own.

    Not literally day one, but I played it from a very early stage, it had almost no features, only zombies and simple loot spawn :p.

    I would like to propose to remove the unlimited sprinting in dayz that is currently active, I remember (going old vet now) that in the mod that map seemed way bigger, but this was due to the fact that most of the time you where jogging instead of running. At this moment players are just cars, and their thirst level is the gas meter. Dayz had much more of a "real" (to a limit) feel when people had to rest now and then to catch their breath. I remember being with a squad of six people, all out of breath and deciding to put up a temporary camp to catch our breath, while catching our breath we took time to cook our meat and prep other stuff for the travels. I think it would enhance the feel of the game play more. Secondly being out of breath made your aim inaccurate (also in current dayz) but also forced the player to jog and if the player wanted to sprint again, then he had to walk/sit and rest to catch their breath. This would again put the sitting option to an actual use. Now this will of course slowdown the pacing of the travel in-game, but I think it will be for the better good, then the vehicles would have a legit reason to come back. Why would you risc a noisy car when you can travel the same distance in 15 min in silence on foot? What do you guys think?

    Making DayZ work for OSX

    For the same money as a mac, you can buy a gaming rig that has almost 4x the power that mac has. Really on a mac you pay for the name, not for the content. They used to be graphically better in the era of which most of the gamers today won't even know it existed. I'm talking of the dos era, where only mac had a graphical interface. But now, they both use the same video cards motherboards, processors, only difference is that mac charges 3x more for the same crap. Not hating here, I used both, this is an opinion out of my experience with both systems.

    Well there won't be a perk or skill system as said by rocket before. There are however going to be tons of ways to fix things medically, mechanically and more. One simply cannot learn everything and has to specialize, wait for it! Their BRAIN to learn the skills themselves, so in a way the skill system is your own brain, memorizing the stuff you need to fix things or to inspect a sick person to know if he needs meds and which meds. A skill system to push your character in one direction is simply to stiff, with yourself learning the ropes, you can go anyway "you" want and not what the game predefined system wants. If you want to be a medic, well learn all about the medical gear, what is what, what does what, who needs what? You want to be a soldier, learn all about the military gear, where do you find it, how do you use it? You wan't to become a chef cook? learn about all the herbs, food, meat, what you need to cook it with? Well i think you get my point, it's just learning it yourself :), a skill allot of people seem to have lost in the gaming world because of the spoon-feeding(not directly pointed towards you, no offence).

    You really need to pick up a book or two about game design, also if you have played the mod in arma 2 which supported a form of destruction on buildings, you would know what kind of a performance drop it would give. The way it works in their engine is by changing models. The physics are already server sided, if they needed to calculated every single piece of a wall fall down, collide, interaction, transfer energy to other pieces, every one would run at 1 fps no matter what machine. And no adding destruction won't instant make a game "good", I think you have this in mind with destruction. But take a close look at those scenes, none contain even 10% of the level size Chernarus is and thus all processing power can be focused on those small physics parts. Don't get me wrong I get your point, it would be awesome to make physics based traps and contraptions. But next time you post, explain yourself a bit more, one sentence is not giving any one an idea of what you are getting at, give some examples, explain, research if it could be possible.

    Drinking water from sinks.

    This could work if the owner of the house had a private automatic pump, a manual pump already exists. The sinks won't have any water since all water facilities are shut down because of the infection (I suppose?). But I do like the idea of gas powered pumps, maybe to fill up gallons with water in a few minutes?

    Well, it was already confirmed in very early stage of the release that zeds (infected) would eventually get loot, they did in the mod and they will in the standalone. For now the body's de-spawn to quickly for looting and thus no loot is added for the drop. But you can be sure it will be added.

    Hi I don't know if anyone noticed this, could also be my imagination, but I found a creature like shape (very big) on the map in the west. Think it is an Easter-egg or just environmental coincidence? I quickly painted over it to make it more visible.

    Tent in standalone

    So today a friend of mine "Rapture" came across this tent in the middle of the woods. I can't remember any update notes that tents where added/active? He was not close to any military base or town. To me it seems like a tent placed by a player. Do any of you know what/where this is. Leave any suggestion/theories or ideas below.

    Are there new zombie sounds?

    Same thing happened to me in an apartment, forest (black mountain) and close to an open field. A friend of mine told me he heard the scariest sound yet on dayz, few moments later I heard the same thing, it gave me goosebumps. Weirdest thing was that there was no zed to be seen, we where in a zed contained area tough, but none whom agro'd on us. From all the sounds I heard in dayz that one was new and very disturbing.
