    How does this post even get beans? Free look is what makes arma 2 realistic, its very useful and a lot more pleasant then twitching and turning all the time just to see whats happening. Every time I play another game I find myself pressing alt and going like: wut? why isnt it?..... aaah too much DayZ :)

  4. I was wondering whether all the updates we have had for the mod would also be implemented into the standalone before the alpha is released. I definitely hope so because the upcoming 1.7.7 patch is the best one so far. The reason that made me think it was done this way was because I heard they could not release the 1.7.7 patch before the return of Rocket Hall. Which is odd since Dean stated he wasn't involved in the mod development anymore (understandably). Unless these changes will also be implemented into the standalone. If anyone could give me the answer that would be great

    Thanks for that reply. I understand it will be a totally new game but what I really meant to say was: are the bugfixes and general improvements being implemented into the SA. I understand "features" are a whole other thing. The general improvements would be for example the new bullet trajectory being improved so its affected by wind ( something I think is going to make gunfights much more realistic and I do not see any reason why not to use it), and bugfixes like zombies not hitting through walls etc. You know, stuff we can all agree on that should be in SA. I think those general improvements are what could split up the community if SA doesn't incorporate them. We want as much people playing the alpha as possible so the devs can get the most feedback, but if they are slow with adopting those general improvements then I think it could slow down the rest of the development into a full game.

    Well I'd suggest a better CPU but since that CPU is an FM1 socket you'll need to buy a new motherboard making it an expensive upgrade. Why would you go with an FM1 in the first place? It is definately not suited for gaming purposes. 1155 is about the equivalent price and offers a lot more

    That CPU right there, that is the cause of your problem. Arma 2 is very dependent on performance per core. That CPU is pretty cheap, add on top of that its a 4 core the performance per core isn't sufficient.

    Incorrect, it is both very CPU and graphics dependent. A config 3770K + gtx 660 will outperform a 3770K + HD7770. Its just that the game uses way more cpu than regular games.

    Quick tip on gun sounds

    I think we can all agree on the fact that the vanilla gun sounds of arma 2 are a bit disappointing. But why? the quality of the sound to me seems to be alright. But still when i press the trigger on an ak74 I feel more like I'm shooting rubber bands rather than firing a gun. So I wanted to find out why I appreciate sounds like for instance those from Bad company 2 more than arma 2's. I recently found out about the JSRS sound mod, and what a difference that makes just wow. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.c...ed/CmaniZ7BcjY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> What I found was that the vanilla sounds were missing 2 parts of a normal gun sound. Usually a gun sound consists out of a sharp pressure wave (sharpness varies on caliber) accompanied by the sound of the gun's internals and quickly followed by the reverb of the environment. I found that the vanilla sounds were lacking some of that reverb or echo from the environment. The second part that is missing in the vanilla sounds I would like to explain with the video below. watch 4:25 - 4:30 and then watch 9:25 -9:40 <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.c...ed/cNKvlV1oxfw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I think this clip clearly shows the difference between what we consider a pleasant powerful gun sound and the vanilla sounds. You can hear that the second part was clearly missing that initial pressure wave making it sound "weaker". The cause of this problem can also be observed. In the second part the microphone was really up close to the gun. When it was fired the sound basically maxes out the volume of the microphone not allowing it to clearly pick up that distinctive pressure wave. Of course capturing the sound from a distance like in the video is not an option since the sound has to be recorded in the first person perspective for it to sound realistic. I do not know the solution for that but I hope this topic conveys what we are looking for in gun sounds for the SA.

    Agreed though I still miss the echo most of the JSRS sounds have. But I can understand the mentallity behind that because the echo from the JSRS mod is recorded rather than generated by the engine, making it static and doesn't change if the environment changes

    Wind and ballistics system

    This update is really amazing, the accurate deveation of projectiles will make gunfights much more realistic and wielding a sniper will become a challenge ( as it should be). I do believe sound is 40% of the experience, and those indoor sound effects will definately add to the immersion. I have the feeling this update will be one of the best so far, excellent job dev team!

    120hz refresh rate for dayz?

    This is a really old post but I feel like some might read it. You need to go to the cfg file of operation arrowhead and change the refresh rate to 120 manually otherwise it will not work. Turning on Vsync did not work for me

    Engraved trees

    Wouldn't it be useful and fun if we could engrave symbols/letters in trees? Leaving a message behind for someone to read it. An memorial for your fallen comrades. Or you could engrave signs of your clan so people know they are in your territory. You could even make subtle marks for finding back your way to your tent or camp. I know with the diary system you will be able to leave notes, but those would be individual items. I think an engravement in a tree would be cool to stumble across. I could not find this idea in the suggestion arrea, if it has already been suggested please send this to the graveyard

    Skype

    Windows 8 is just fine. Apps though suck soooo bad. I had the exact same problem, just download skype online as a file and install it in the desktop environment. That solved it for me at least.
  17. Very uncomfortable, say for instance your tent was discovered it would be gone. Now you would see all the useless stuff was left behind ( indicating someone was there). If the tent would just dissappear i would go to the admin and ask him if the server was bugged. Anyway it should leave a trace

    Hitmarkers, yay or nay?

    For realism nay. Imagine just shooting in a bush to see wether someone is there, just not realistic. Which is what this mod is all about
