    limited fuel tanks

I havent seen this idea before but I definately like it. It would make for real scavenging where you have no certainty whether something is going to be there or not

[SA] Gun lubrication to prevent jams

Let's see how many pages of lubrication jokes we get

New patch coming soon to dayz

Does anyone know how much time Dean needs to approve the new patch. I can imagine it's LOADS of information to go through. But do you have a hunch when you think Dean will approve it R4ZOR? edit: Almost forgot to give you some credit for that amazing artwork, very nicely done!

    A speculation.

I hope to see a good long video devblog next week when Rocket is in again. Maybe they should do some simple gameplay with the rest of the testers and see what interesting situations occur. A good bit of satisfying video material is enough for me definitely. For a release I only hope they take their time with the stuff that can't be changed after an alpha release. The engine in particular, knowing Rocket said their will be no ragdoll was a real bummer for me. Just watch the zoombies mod and see how much fun and realistic the ragdoll is in there. If they can't add ragdoll after an alpha release to the engine then they should wait in my opinion. Content wise for me it doesn't matter if we don't have much, weekly updates with content are exciting and would only be a good thing that keeps everyone active. That's just my view on the situation

    Any knowledge on SA requirements?

Could you give me your steam name? I think I still have one for you

    DayZ on console

My guess is that this is not going to happen for at least 2 years (then DayZ should be in its final form). To make matters worse I think other companies will smell money when DayZ hits the shelves and we will see lots of DayZ clones by other companies ( EA for sure unfortunately). Bohemia Interactive will need to hire some very good lawyers to stop the clones from popping up.
  7. When I buy a game I like I feel good about the fact that that money is going to a team that deserves it. I have bought many games full price that I did not like as much as I had hoped. Now I hear rocket stating DayZ will be cheap, which has to do with the fact that its not an AAA title. But the fact is that the mod itself is one of the best if not the best game I have ever played. And when the standalone comes out I think I will feel bad about the fact that I gave Bohemia Interactive less money than other developers of games that I didn't even like. I would like to see a supporter edition of DayZ for 50 euros because I think the dev team would deserve it and need it for further development. I think it is a very noble act of Rocket to only charge us very little in order for everyone to be able play the game but I know that there are lots of us that want to show our support. And quite frankly having my name in the credits of an possibly industry changing game like DayZ would be absolutely fantastic. Arma 3 supporter edition was and edition of the game that cost a lot more but gave you the option to get your name in the credits.

    Cars should break not explode

It really is one of the design decisions BI made in Arma 2 I never understood. There are numerous TV shows out there that tested how and when gasoline would explode. And shooting with any caliber under 50 won't do it, not even tracers. The only way a car could really burn out would be if there was a gas leak in the engine compartment, or if you where driving on shot out tires with sparks flying everywhere. I don't like getting killed in a burning car because I accidentally drove over a rock or into a street light. I think it is a simple fix for dayz to only allow vehicles to burn out if the engine was critically hit in a lucky place while it was running. In any other cases such as when the hull would get busted the car should just break down without any flames.

Really? could you post a reference?

Will there be a DayZ supporter edition?

Thought of that too but ill end up giving those copies away which in turn wouldn't help the devs because those people would otherwise have bought it themselves. I don't even think steam allows it for 1 account to have multiple of the same games.

Will there be a DayZ supporter edition?

A supporter edition is nothing like a limited edition or special edition with goodies. It is just about players wanting to show they care by paying what they think its really worth and getting some recognition for it. Getting your name in the credits is very simple and of course they would keep their word.

    sanity meter

Personally I don't like things like this in a game. I could compare this idea to getting surpressed in BF3 (in which the idea is that you get scared and are not able to aim straight). Many people forget that these things are already being done by your brain itself. In dayz when I get ambushed my heart is racing and I start getting shaking hands because of the adrenaline, that is the surpression effect right there. But BF3 is not able to get you scared so the game has to get scared for you which in my opinion is just bad.

    Suggestion: Hunting Snares and Traps

Rocket stated he was personally working on the hunting aspect of the game. And I think this is also part of his list.

    is the game stil alive?

http://steamgraph.ne...id=33930&from=0 I recommend everyone taking a look at this graph. It clearly shows the popularity of arma 2 OA of which the majority is DayZ edit: you can actually see its almost as popular as back when it started

    Cars should break not explode

I'd say only grenades or other explosives should do the trick. But do you remember back in the day GTA san andreas had a feature that if you hit the gas fill cap on a car it would explode. Maybe they should do something along those lines. Like if you hit the engine block at the carburetor it would start a fire that eventually could blow up the car or set it fully ablaze.

    Cars should break not explode

Since the SA will use major parts of the TOH engine does anyone know if the vehicle damage is different in that game? I heard they will use the flight model from TOH engine, maybe the driving physics/damage are different too?
  17. Felixthefriendlycat

    Anyone else agree?

I have to say that a couple of weeks ago I agreed with the OP's opinion however what I realized was that giving us all of the info now will not benefit the release of the SA. The release of the alpha should hold many surprises that will lead to more media coverage at the release date itself. That way the alpha will have more sales and the devs will have a higher budget to spend working on getting it to beta and then completion.

Stupidest thing you've ever done in DayZ?

Putting an M240 in an already full backpack. *opens backpack* .....where is....... my.... *mini hart attack*..... NOOOOOOOOOOOO

    Seasons???

  20. Felixthefriendlycat

    Seasons???

temperature variation linked to season is very easy doable. The difficult one would be changing the environment and textures to match the season. It would require separate textures for all objects which is a lot of work. But I still stand by my opinion that the time and seasons in dayz should run in parallel to real life. Shortened day night cycles absolutely ruin the immersion for me. I really like the idea of having seasons and I hope they will look into it ones the alpha comes out. I think it would make for a meaningful addition to the game
  21. Idea 1 What if the story of DayZ was set in a part of the world that was almost completely wiped out by the virus. But there would still be countries that survived the plague and are trying to come up with a cure. They would need zombies to do experiments on to test whether the cure works. For this they hire special forces teams that would go into Chernarus at night by helicopter or airplane and capture zombies that suit their requirements. Now imagine yourself walking through the woods at night when you suddenly hear the loud roar of a helicopter flying over you along with a bright search light. You would have to stay hidden because the special forces are instructed to kill any possible form of resistance. This would create a more tense atmosphere at night but also an opportunity for the player. If you plan things out well you could overwhelm the special forces when they land and take their equipment. The special forces would be NPC's (which I know not many people like) but they would only have a very limited time on the ground so you wouldn't get very frustrated by stupid AI. Idea 2 Another idea I was thinking about would be emergency food and medicine drops by airplane. If the story was like I described above then the governments of the surviving countries wouldn't have the capacity to evacuate everybody from the region but they would have the possibility to help out the good willing. The idea would be that you could find a book or piece of paper that contains secret codes that you could broadcast with your radio. You would then get messages back from the surviving countries by radio which you would have to decipher with the codes on the paper. And then you could radio the coordinates to the surviving countries where they would have to drop the emergency food and medicine packs. I think this could add alot the atmosphere and story but also would make the world a bit more alive and random. For instance what if somebody radios the wrong coordinates and you get somebody else's food dropped near you. That would make for a nice surprise. Also if somebody makes a distress call on the radio you could help him out by radioing his coordinates for the airdrop as a random act of kindness :). And ofcourse these things would need to be anomalies, they would have to be very rare. Let me know what you think, also specify idea 1 or idea 2
  22. I hope I spelled that title right. Anyways I wanted to raise some awareness about the density of the forests. In the current mod you have about a 100 to 150 meter clear sight through the woods. That of course isn't realistic, looking at the pictures Matt took on his trip the forests had a lot more smaller ground cover like bushes and young trees. I would suggest a more dense forest for Chernarus+, because if we wan't to recreate the feel of a real forest we have to make the forest real first. This video shows the map Celle which has the kind of density I would like to see. Just imagine the tense feeling that around every couple of trees could be lurking a zombie or a bandit ( or Slender?), now that would be properly scary! Before watching this video I would have thought it would not be possible due to performance issues but the game seems to run very well on his rig, even though he has post processing enabled.

I would love to see specific graphics settings locked

post processing has to be the worst thing of all arma 2's settings. It adds latency, it eats performance like crazy, it makes distanced objects blurry. I just don't get why people prefer games to look like they need glasses.

    How to Really Increase FPS?

That is mouse smoothing you are talking about. Always disable it. You can find it at control options just slide it all the way off to the left
  25. Felixthefriendlycat

More dense forests and their impact on gameplay

Thanks for bringing that up, I forgot to put that in. The canopy of the woods is very important indeed, not only for those pesky bandits scouting tents but for the overall quality. It feels really cheap when flying over a "forests" that is just a couple of sticks you can see right through.
