About texture loading distance
Felixthefriendlycat replied to Felixthefriendlycat's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Because it would scare people off? All I can say is that I really enjoyed it, things are looking very good. Of course a leak is not pleasant but I don't think it will hurt the game in any way -
Running in doors... read before ranting.
Felixthefriendlycat replied to valdark's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not sure if trolling or you have absolutely no idea what this game is about -
That is a very valid point, if the quality is going to suffer then it should not be done
-
I think that is the type of freedom us players should have, and will make the game interesting and surprising. Stupid skins will obviously not go well with surviving so it will ballance itself out automatically
-
Not if the custom texture was made up of already existing textures. Like for instance made in an editor with a library of textures to choose from which everybody has installed. It would limit your creativity but that would get rid of the problem of having to download everybody's custom skins
-
Thought about it too myself but the thing is they are just not used in the chernarus area. They want the world to be authentic so I think it is out of the question.

Visual effects, Are they an inconvenience?
Felixthefriendlycat replied to PuRe DAYZ's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I hope SA won't force them on us. For 1 single reason: Latency. PPE will add at least 5 ms to every frame in the best case scenario. It is one of the things that ruin my experience playing a game the most ( apart from low framerate). -
Rocket has said many teams how much he loves the game Kerbal space program. And today I gave it a try myself. It is a really good game, just the level of creativity it allows is unpresedented. But enough of that. I thought now that SA will have a crafting system wouldn't it be funny to have the possibility to craft a model rocket! It would be a small model rocket with a kerbal capsule on top. Before you would launch it you could put a letter or a small object in the top module with your own message. When you launch the rocket it will fly away. After it has reached its highest point the top module will come down with a parachute containing the message or the object for someone to find. Edit: Crafting the rocket should be a challange because it would need a lot of different objects to combine. Which would stimulate people to visit every place of the map.

I really like this idea a lot. The uncertainty if someone is dead or not adds a good bit of tension and is very realistic. Giving players a counter that counts kills promotes killing for no reason. Players should be able to do what they want and not be steered in a certain direction, such counters do exactly that. If you would have to shoot someone to stay allive the kill shouldnt matter. But if you are a bounty hunter or a bandit you could go up to the corps check if it is dead and you get a note in your diary. This could allow for bounty hunting since you would have proof of who you killed. I really think this idea deserves recognition and I hope so bad it will be in standalone.

Minimum GFX settings PLEASE! - FAO Rocket
Felixthefriendlycat replied to irzero's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
In a leaked video Somewhere on the internet a guy played the standalone with a GT320 and a very old dual core he stated. he was able to run that old build from the standalone on very high with a view distance of 500 meters above 30 fps. It's no guarantee of course but it is looking like standalone is going to be quite well optimized. With such a performance gain certain low graphics specs could be disabled. I do not like the idea of "locking" graphics settings to 1 preset. However I would like to see some very low settings gone, such as disabled shadows and anything under normal object quality. -
Turn sout you can play DayZ with Linux...
Felixthefriendlycat replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Definitely agree, linux should become the next gaming OS in the next 8 years. Releasing DayZ on it with better performance compared to windows would make Linux grow immensely. But the most important thing here is that Valve's steambox is the only console I would feel good about having DayZ on it. I am 99% sure when Sony asks bohemia to make a PS4 version they will force very significant design changes on the team. The Xbox one, I do not think the hardware can even handle it at 30 fps. -
My only wish for bohemia when DayZ would come to console is to license the game title. If they start working on it themselves DayZ WILL be held back by consoles. They should always keep PC as their main development platform. With that said the x86 architecture of the consoles would allow for such a development process. However many many game developers have lost their quality when they started developing for console ( Crytek, DICE, Ubisoft, and many more). I think bohemia interactive has huge potential if they only keep things clean. Publish their own games, choose realistic graphics above "flashy" graphics, stick to PC as the most stable gaming platform.

[SA] Kerbal easter egg suggestion
Felixthefriendlycat replied to Felixthefriendlycat's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That is also a nice one, however it should fit the theme. The model rocket would be a very vintage one ( like you have to light a fuse with matches etc) that way it would fit the theme. -
Super Structure/mini campaign

Super Structure/mini campaign
Felixthefriendlycat replied to liquidcactus's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Having certain areas so crouded with zombies that going in allone would be impossible seems like a nice idea. It doesn't force players in any way because you could get creative and do it allone. It would stimulate teaming up and that is something I would like to see. -
I do not understand how this guy got a key but he already leaked SA right after he got it. snip nvm orlok send it to tha yard if the videos aren't allowed here

Felixthefriendlycat replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The performance of whine is rather poor compared to if you where using windows. On top of that there will be compatibility issues ( minor solvable errors). Valves steambox should deliver an effortless experience and having to tweak settings and stuff will not suit the general customer. With that said valve's steambox will be completely moddable so you can install any os you'd like and you can install stuff on linux itself if you desire so SA will be playable on steambox anyway. As for bohemia releasing it in the steam store I am not sure. Though it would make the steambox a hell of a lot more attractive. -

Why is dean more active on Reddit then on the official forums?
Felixthefriendlycat posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It seems a bit strange to me since this is supposed to be the real dayz community. I see regular posts of Matt Lightfoot but I rarely see deans posts. Dean even posted on Reddit while he was at Everest. Don't get me wrong I really do not mind if there's a good reason for it but I could not come up with a viable answer myself. -
Knowing SA will use the flight model from Take on helicopters there will be loads of these threads in the future. Cant wait! Really nice screenshottography btw, beans for you.

There are some mixed opinions about jamming weapons and I understand most of them. I would still like to see gunjams being implemented because it is realistic and could add some tention and makes you think twice about picking up a new weapon. But what I really would like to see is a simple system for jamming that reflects how you treat your weapon. A simple one would be to find a can of oil to lubricate the parts. But it could also be a bit more elaborate than that by adding different factors like your gun could rust more quickly if you swim in salty sea water. Or if you are closer to the coast because the air is more salty. Another one would be if your gun gets hit by a bullet that would make it jam instantly. A jamming weapon could also be caused by bad ammo, because it could be rusty or it was soaked in water for a long time. But that might be another discussion. In short: I like the jamming concept but if you treat your gun well than you should have no problems because that is how it is in real life. edit: It could also totally change the hierarchy of weapons because now a well looked after 1866 winchester could be better than a rusty m4 carbine.

Disagreement between a friend
Felixthefriendlycat replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Meh don't get too excited for that, from what I have seen they only used some shaders used in arma 3. The lighting system still looks a lot like the one from the original TOH. Better textures for the ground will definately add a lot, as for houses and objects I am not sure whether those will be updated. edit: ofcourse they will be updated. I mean getting a boost in resolution -

Felixthefriendlycat replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The thing that makes arma 2 looks "bad" compared to other shooters is that its fidelity is completely even across the every inch of the map and characters. Many other AAA titles will make the things that are up in your face look really good and forget about the rest to get the same performance. This gives those AAA titles an instant WOW! effect but the longer you play them the more you start seeing the flaws. For me arma 2 was the complete opposite. At first it looked terrible to me, add on top of that the horrific performance and I was deeply unimpressed. But I liked the mod and the more I played it the more I became immersed in Chernarus. One simple thing that began to struck me was the polygon count, no other game has so many polygons in a single tree. Also textures are definetely higher res than some of bf3's max settings ones. I guess this will be one of the things that will make dayz a hard sell. You really have to experience it much longer to start seeing just how gorgeous it is. -

Hmm sorting posts is definately useful. Isn't there a feature to sort topics by views per hour or something. That should only be available to forum mods and Devs otherwise some topics might not get the attention they deserve. -
[SA] Gun lubrication to prevent jams
Felixthefriendlycat replied to Felixthefriendlycat's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not necessarily but it will reduce the amount of malfunctions and jams
