Extension to one of Rocket's idea: Gear damage by gunfire
ElemenoP replied to psycho84's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Why should there be consequences for successfully killing someone? You're the one who went and got himself shot. Does a diceroll too see if your beans disintegrate when you die make you feel that much better? Does it make someone less likely to kill you? Especially when, chances are, with the roles reversed you'd do the same? Do you think that people will suddenly play nice with one another because there's a chance their bullet will metaphorically ruin a bandage or a water bottle? This is a bad idea. It tried to encourage and favor certain playstyles in a very vague and arbitrary manner. -
The reason I'm not a fan of occupied buildings is, eventually, they'd all be occupied. There's a very limited amount of enter-able structures, and cordoning lots of them off seems like it would be troublesome. Single cabins would be pretty awesome. Adding additional components and furniture should be at the player's discretion. Exactly, it shouldn't be easy to just prop up your village, but it should be doable with a large and coordinated group.

Unconventional Weapons: Non-Lethals, Homemade and more
ElemenoP replied to ElemenoP's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Thanks' date=' and agreed! Thank you Nail guns would be sweet pistol replacements oh my god. Limited range, high bleeding damage? Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I don't think arma shipped with nonlethals' date=' but I feel like it wouldn't be *that* hard to add them in. I'm not 100% on that though. Thats assuming you knock them out with it. When they wake up they won't be pissed unless you're still nearby. -
Thanks for the approval. I cut some out of the quote to keep this post readable' date=' but I agree w/what you said. There are bigger priorities definitely, but sooner or later the content's gonna start rolling in. Tallied your responses and added them to the main post. I agree w/the point about server hopping into someone's outpost. I feel like this idea could only really be effective if servers each got their own persistence. Rocket has said no to safe havens. Personally' date=' I agree w/him. Thanks! Added your approval to the list. Thats the dream man.

Yeah' date=' that'd be awesome. I tried to shy away from melee weapons in this post though. That's my thinking. If everyone's going to be shooting one another, may as well make it more "interesting" -

Unconventional Weapons: Non-Lethals, Homemade and more
ElemenoP replied to ElemenoP's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Woah, forum reset nuked a lot of the main post. I went back through and re-added everything that was there before, in addition to a few new suggestions. -
I, for one, don't want a giant "shoot me" bubble appearing over my head when I'm typing.

I see I'm ahead of the curve here

What's your character going to do, snap an m16 over his knee? Take it apart and remove the pin? If you want to disarm someone, drop your backpack and just take their gun, or, better yet, put a few extra rounds in his/her skull. Then you get his food and blood packs fo' free.

The zombie effectiveness should be increased, not to discourage murder, but because once you know how to beat them they're a non-issue. Attracting the attention of the horde should, imo, be as likely to kill you as another player. As for ammo drops, the deathmatchers don't even use more than one or two clips once they get their primaries. Most of the wanna-be jessie james types I kill have more ammo on them than they'd ever use. Remember: the average life expectancy is 27 minutes. You'd merely be reducing the payout from looting towns.

Alright. Hmmmm. So, you say that made this game called DayZ? It's a zombie simulator, made within the framework of a hardcore military sim? Tell me more! Oh, and you say it it accurately portrays the dynamics between survivors of the apocalypse? A realistic depiction of the collapse of society and trust among fellow men? With actual bullet physics, survival needs and scarcity of resources to boot? Wow, nobody has made an imagining of the zombie apocalypse with this much attention to realism or accuracy! Fascinating...But, you know what it really needs? A fucking giant, glowing, invincible fucking yeti boss monster that runs at 4 mph, is scared of building interiors and susceptible only to cars. Yeaaaahh, that'd be sweet.

They actually only spawn in cherno and electro exclusively. Sorry man.
-
lolwut No, you're right. Non-bandits would be completely oblivious to this environmental data, subconsciously refusing to use it on principle because they're such upstanding survivor citizens. Also: this whole idea is bs. Look at deer stands. I've seen z's wandering around them at the edge of the fog on unpopulated servers. Sure, one of the other 4 people on the server *could* have been wandering around at this particular deerstand in the middle of nowhere, but I doubt it. Z's start spawning at pretty surprising distances.

If there was a way to visually distinguish it i'd be down. As it stands now, pretty much every outfit except the ghillie suit already looks like it's wearing body armor of some sort. Having to shoot some people way more times than others without knowing why would be a pain in the ass.

Kidnapping/ Slave Trafficking/ Cannibalism?
ElemenoP replied to dalgcais's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You know what would make cannibalism awesome? If you have a hunting knife, you can make steaks like w/any animal. But...You get the hunger. You eat a person out of spite/desperation, and soon you'll begin to slowly loose blood until you feed again. -

I find the snipers usually perched somewhere around the military installations to be very effective bosses myself.

Unconventional Weapons: Non-Lethals, Homemade and more

I hate to self-bump my own post that got no replies, but I went back and reworked most of the post to make it easier to read, added a ton of stuff and generally fixed it up. -
Random events for loot and possible pvp/pve opportunities
ElemenoP replied to BrickyBrick's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Heli/Jet crashes would be awesome to have happen at random places. Supply misdrops could be cool I've seen suggestions for small squads of AI military cleanup teams that you could loot if you could kill them. Random treasure maps (map/gps with a marked location for ultra-rare l00tz) would be awesome Zombie migrations would be bitchin' -
Humans are built for Information exchange - solution to Excessive PKing
ElemenoP replied to combatcomm1's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You're a very well spoken, articulate person. I understand your sentiment completely, and thank you for the productive response. -
Game's not supposed to be easy. I play as a loner, and zombies havn't killed me since day 1. Play a little bit smarter, and stop expecting easy outs. If anything, zombies should be able to attack w/out having to come to a standstill, because they're too easy to kill once they stop to attack the air.
