@DeathJester76: Thanks for the support, I'll get onto this, I had been looking at list (we update to it as much as possible) but wasn't sure on how to submit - will have another look and give it a go. @Rooneye: Most of the script kiddies run a program (made by random developers... always good to trust!) that bypass Battle Eye (which catches them running the scripts) they get caught out every time an update comes out.

I am talking about having users names appear in the bottom left when they use voicechat - I would rather not have to resort to using nameplates to see who the cheaters are on our server, and if I can coax them into talking then it will display their name. -
Ow dude, I am not sure if this happened on our server (I was told a similar thing happened); we had an Admin ban someone in similar circumstance yesterday - if it is you I am sincerely sorry, I have removed the ban and explained this to the Admin. We have had a massive wave of cheaters on our server and it is like fighting a fire blind - you are welcome back, and welcome to use our TS server whenever you like (for any game). You can find us at 1up-gamers.com Whilst we all wait for the standalone I can recommend you try the private hives as admins have more control, to be honest, the only way we can deal with cheaters properly is by having the tools they have, and I am personally not willing to stoop to their level (or catch a nasty bug installing some random piece of hacky rubbish).

Today I saw our server get popular at 3 different intervals, each time it attracts hackers and I see a wave of disconnects in DaRT with a few expletives, I check the logs and there is nothing in there - I can't kick or ban without the data there, I can't even get a name. This has happened almost every single day since the update. I am also aware that it is not possible to equip admins with proper tools in-case they are abused. So... what am I to do? What do you do? I must say my first temptation is to look into scripting myself so I can spectate players, of-course this could be abused but it is not in my interest, the only reason I pay for a Day Z server is so that people can play the game the way it was meant to be played and is not in my interest to abuse these features in any way.... this is just my word though and I am sure there are people who would say the same, but actually abuse it. It would be really nice to be able to do something until the stand-alone comes out. </blergh>

Ahur, thanks for pointing this out (I had a feeling this was the case but my understanding of it is limited). I do keep and eye on inventories on users connecting however I noticed the cunning hackers keep legit items (normally a Mk48 or similar). If anyone has some solid reading on how the kiddies are getting away with this please do PM me so I can read up on it. Thanks again all. -

Thanks for the replies: @xXdom: Our server is hosted with multiplay - the only log file I have which you mention is the remoteexec.log - the last entries of which are from two months ago. Previously I tried using the arma2oaserver.RPT but this really doesn't give me much (that I know of). I manually update the filters from the community banlist and filters, but yea - I get nothing :-(. I'll ask multiplay about the files you mentioned and if we can get access to them. @machoman & Venzire: I am going to open up a support request with Multiplay today about setting up on a private hive, and or getting better tools for dealing with the hackers. Would love to put our server on a private hive at the moment, its all I personally play on. If anything, at the moment, our server is more of a honeypot for hackers with no consequence and apart from the random abuse I can throw at them, there is nothing I can do. Thanks for the suggestions and support all. -
I can confirm, after spending about 6 hours moving stuff around in tents and the server doing its usual reboot the following day... that they are not saving :¬P Serves me right for not checking properly first I guess :¬D

The AS50 TWS needs to be DB wiped or not able to be saved to hive.

OP has a good point - there should be a way of filtering out these weapons from being saved in the hive - probably too much of an overhead (check every write for a whitelist of items, if not in, don't save) _but_ could maybe do a daily timed check on player loot tables instead. To be fair, if you are running around with a hacked gun your just as bad as the hacker who brought it into the game. Sure there are lots of cheaters, but there are also lots of people trying to play the game legitimately. If your going to run around with hacked weapons who cares if you spawned it in yourself. -

Haha, the last couple of pages were funny indeed :¬D I think that link works more as a deterrent than as a promotion. I am having fun on various private hives at the moment - if I die its no deal, hacker or not - I enjoy the game when starting out fresh (meet more people etc..) or can pick up another character that I have developed on another hive. -

Hmm I would rather it this way - tents saving properly is more important to me than people having vehicles. I found a base on our server with thermal AS50's which I happily destroyed and am killing some of these crazy overpowered tents with NV style gear in them I find around elektro and cherno. Players who play with us on TS are playing more cautiously because they know the gear on them can go at any point... much more fun. Our server seems more popular than ever, and we have no choice as we go through multiplay anyway :¬D -

Just happened on our server - a guy with 10k+ zombie kills and his friend with a "golf_cargo01" in his inventory connected and shortly after I see lots of this going on: 16:07:06 "HIVE: UPDATING OBJ: [f48950c0# 1055383: tractor_2.p3d,"damage"] / UID: "7698239924210"" (repeated anywhere between 5 - 15 times with the same timestamp for each respective vehicle) really not a problem - if anyone knows where they are teleported too tho would be good to know. Was kinda funny as I was sat watching the default heli spawn on our server waiting for some friends to get online as it then just vanished in front of my eyes. -

Yea same, we ask people not to play on our server with the weapons that are not part of the game - if they stay and chose to play with these weapons then we are considering adding them to our banlist. Everyone is well aware that someone could pick the weapon up by mistake, or have some kiddie plop it on them - which is exactly the reason why the dev team cannot tell server admins to explicitly ban players with these weapons, which is fair enough (otherwise some wise ass will just start giving out these weapons for the lulz) - however - the majority of the time I see multiple players connecting within 5 minutes of each other, all with a variety of hacked weapons, radio etc... The other point is that you do not have to give people perma-bans, a simple, server specific, 1 week ban with a friendly explanation and a method for discussing with the admin is really not that upsetting, especially with all the other servers out there to play on: "1 week ban in place for connecting for longer than 5~ minutes (after being warned) with a weapon that is not part of Day Z, please contact us on www.domain.com" I agree that automating this, or allowing people to be added to the community ban list would be a bad idea and could harm legitimate players. I find it quite therapeutic going through our server log files at the moment and would like to do the best I can to ensure a nice place for everyone to play by blocking the blatant hackers from rejoining.

I think you are in the wrong thread - this is the TWS debate, not the; AndreasB will throw toys at everyone who disagrees with him thread. The only reason you have for not kicking and banning is that is in the rules, which we all know about and are trying to debate. Chill out and explain why people should not be kicking and banning players with weapons that are not part of Day Z from the developers stand point. NB: we are in Alpha, full release is coming where I doubt guns that are not part of the game will be included - so this is arguably not worth spending time on. I picked up the discussion after checking logs to see a lot of hacked weapons where being used on our server and thought something should be done about it as the rules arguably do not fit.

Eh, I am not removing a player, I am simply saying that you cannot play with guns that are not part of the game (cheating) on our server. You are welcome to play on many of the other servers that allow this. The rules are there to help the game be played the way it should be.... not so you can pick up restricted weapons and tell the admins they can do nothing because some member of the team has not carefully worded how restricted weapons should be dealt with until there is a proper answer (or stand-alone without the guns in it). There must be a saying somewhere about following rules too strictly and its negative impacts. Also I was under the impression this is a debate, not some guy telling me I have to blindly follow a set of rules for no better reason than because they are the rules. Give me one good reason why I should let people with hacked weapons play on the server we pay £600 a year for supporting a community and players other than: "because there isn't anything in the rules about restricted weapons".

To other server owners who are interested. Lets put this into perspective, this is an alhpa, there are a set of guns in the game for testing, these players have acquired ones that are not part of the game and I doubt they want them just to look at. I had 3 people join our server today when we already had 20 players on - all three of them with hacked weapons. I am sure their intentions are to use the guns, I would rather they did not. They are welcome to play somewhere else that accepts this and is happy to go with your Scenerio 1 (innocent noob picks up uber hacked weapon [pretty unlikely, possible, but unlikely]). No you get me wrong, I just thought it would be humorous and I was not being serious, altho... it would be funny (imvho) :-) I would report to the community (where required [people who consistently connect with restricted weapons] - as people already do), I am not abusing admin powers, I am trying to help the game being played in the way it is designed. Anyone can contact admins of servers to be removed from banlists (we have forums, teamspeak etc..) - try to play on our server with guns that are not part of the game and you will have to go find somewhere else - I think this is fair for all the players who are trying to play Day Z legitimately. I could be wrong, but this is how I feel. I get the combined opinion though, reporting is probably not required, I just wanted our work checking logs to be of use to other server admins with the same opinion over hacked weapons, and also some text to scare/put off players with these weapons.

I am adding a message to our server that if someone joins with a hacked weapon and stays on the server for longer than 2~ minutes I am going to add them to our banlist: "If you are joining with a hacked weapon (AS50 TWS / LRR etc...) and you stay for longer than 2 minutes you will be added to our banlist and possibly reported" I know people could pick it up by mistake, but I would rather anyone with these guns is not on our server. If I could filter its usage, even better (IE. when someone uses it they are turned into a pig and teleported to the nearest player [w00ty]).

I had to kick and ban two kiddies yesterday. Shortly after a server reboot they both joined, waited a few minutes and then teleported the players on the server to the sky (to fall to their death), they then waited around and did a few extra things like teleporting everyone to zub etc... Yea I was quite disappointed the scripts.log was rather empty ~ I am guessing it is because exploits/commands that are originally logged get upgraded to instant kicks with BE? Found these in the remoteexec.log, if anyone could help me with them it would be really appreciated. I gtg out so short reply: You could still do this - you just wont be able to do it on the Hive, and I think that is fair enough? Not sure how it would work but you will effectively have two characters, one on the private server and the other on the hive? If that is the case its probably quite cool like this anyway.

You can have locked servers, and fairly so they will not be linked to the hive - as it would allow players to loot the game (hive) and then go to un-passworded servers with all their loot and kill those who cannot afford their own locked server which they can loot themselves. Unfortunately the suggestion of giving out the password has potential issues also - either it would be keep too close (and know everyone) or too open and you have hackers all over again. It also doesn't solve the problem that you may not give it to anyone and just loot it yourself (not saying you would, but its a possibility and certainly what other players would do). I still communicate with strangers! A lot of people respond and I have learnt ways to making sure I am safe before opening communication - pretty satisfying killing someone who decides to go hostile (we had someone try and steal our vehicle the other night when trying to help him!)... lots more scallies in the world of Dayz now :¬)
