Crash requiring hard reboot preventing play
TheFourthLB replied to TheFourthLB's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I'm trying everything, I've run the game in safe mod with networking and get the message "display adapter does not support format D24S8 for X8R8G8B8." I assume that has to do with safe mod but I'm posting it here just in case. By running the game in windowed mode, I'm able to get the game to run for about 15-20 minutes before my computer locks up. But, even in windowed mode it locks the whole computer up and I'm forced to restart. -

Crash requiring hard reboot preventing play

I went in and was able to lower the resolution and video quality in arma 2 and the expansion manually before restarting dayz. Doing so allowed me to play Dayz for approximately 20 minutes before crashing this time. I'm unsure if that info is helpful, but I'm literally trying everything. This game was $23 and is exceptionally fun. I'd like to still be playing it =P -

I have been having this issue, and it has escalated to the point that I cannot even load into DayZ successfully and play. -

After a couple weeks of extended play with only one or two heat-related interruptions, my computer has begun locking up and requiring complete system reboot the moment I load in to a server. My rig: Stock Gateway P-7811FX (Model MS2252) featuring 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB ram, and an NVIDIA GeFocre 9800M GTS. It's a laptop, and it is played using a lap table and a usb fan that raises it off the flat surface and allows airflow. Long-Winded Synopsis of computer health history: I purchased Arma 2 to play DayZ during the discount week on Steam and have played actively since then. However, beginning last week, my computer crashes immediately upon loading into the game, complete with screen going blank and audio locking up. The first couple times it happened, I was able to load in and walk around a bit before locking up, but that was three days ago and now the game can't even successfully load in. I've tested the issue in ARMA as well, and as soon as I load in to a mission the computer locks up and has to be turned off and back on again. This exact shutdown has occurred chronically before, while playing Diablo 3, League of Legends and World of Warcraft, and was determined to be heat related. The computer was completely disassembled, cleaned and re-pasted. The computer now performs those games for hours without slow-down or shut down. I've run malwarebytes and avast to scan for viruses/malware, ran hwmonitor to check for weird heat spikes, and disassembled the machine again, cleaned it again, repasted again, and tested that no other program I run causes the issue (and have confirmed they all run correctly). I've re-installed arma 2, the expansion, and dayz. I've exhausted every avenue I know of to determine the cause for the game to abruptly no longer run on my rig and am coming up blank. So, does anyone know where to start?
