  1. What fucking genius had the idea of allowing staff to interfere? What reason did they have to be there, seriously? I was watching bits and pieces, so maybe I missed the reason? Anyways, it would be nice if it were possible to record the game at a code level so that someone could take that recording and edit it in "director mode", a la Driver.
  2. What the hell is up with that weird sidestep animation? What triggers it, and why is it there? Every now and then I'll be in a gunfight, and for a second my character decides to stop firing and slowly sidesteps off a building or into enemy gunfire. It should be removed.

    Remove the sidestep animation

EDIT - thought I had a solution but nope

    Remove the sidestep animation

If you can add animations like rolls, surely you can remove them also.

    Remove the sidestep animation

I've tried to figure out what actually triggers it but couldn't. I'll try your suggestion. I still think it's completely unnecessary.

    DayZ sans zombies?

Rocket's original idea was a survival simulator from what I understand. So why not give it a try? A pure, post-apocalyptic survival simulator, an optional mode where server admin can switch off zombies. Perhaps it might automatically make other survival aspects more difficult, such as hunting and scavenging. Opinions?

    DayZ sans zombies?

It'd make a big FPS difference too. Last night I was fighting a bandit in Elektro who got very lucky because a zombie knocked me out, allowing him to finish me off with a Makarov while I was unconscious. They hit me from behind as I was so focused on the enemy. That was the most interesting interaction I've had with the zombie dynamic in a while, it changed the outcome of that fight in a non-broken way.

    DayZ sans zombies?

The standalone will have a deeper survival aspect. Removing zombies from the mod might not be as entertaining.

    DayZ sans zombies?

I've played wasteland, and I think it's pretty insufficient for experience I'd like to see. It's not really a survival simulation.
  10. You've got the tail wagging the dog. You think that less loot would solve the "problem" of people hoarding? You don't think they'd do it more? It's not a problem in the first place, it's one of the things that makes the game awesome. You also expect to raid the NWAF with a pistol and be successful? What? Not unless you get lucky and no one is around for 15 minutes.
  11. OK, you bring up that show - zombies haven't been an earnest threat to the characters since season one. Once they figured out how to kill zombies, how to avoid and be safe from them, it became all about surviving the "bandits"!
  12. First of all, no one can say for sure exactly how people will behave until the changes have been made to the game mechanics. There is no certainty that people would kill each other less, they may kill each other more when resources are scarcer. Second of all, zombies aren't going to be as dangerous once you learn to avoid and handle them. That's how it should be. I've got no problem with making them more difficult to deal with, but people will adapt to that too. It's when you let your guard down that you get your shit ruined. Third, humans are the most dangerous animal on the planet, and they will remain that way even in the event of a zombie apocalypse.

The Can Issue Explained - "What went wrong?"

    Seems like you're feeling guilty.
  14. Well that's right also. But I think my last post covers it.
  15. So you're making the point that requiring more food and drink than normal is also a compression of time, which makes sense in the game context. If you make the timespan more realistic, you remove the challenge of finding food and drink, which is in a way less realistic. Because we're not playing this game 24/7, some elements have to be altered in the amount of time they take, so as to include all the challenges we might come across in a real survival situation.
  16. Dying from dehydration can take hours. It depends on the weather and what you are doing. "Ewan Louis Williamson, from Largs west of Glasgow, collapsed about four hours into a hike along a gorge in Western Australia as temperatures rose to above 40 degrees." http://www.telegraph...-Australia.html
  17. Requiring sleep makes no sense in the first place for the reason you mentioned. The game takes place in real time.
  18. Yet the game is so popular in the first place because it breaks all the rules about what is supposed to entertain players. No one else has been brave enough to make a game like this, Rocket came in and filled that vacuum. If anything, features like this should be trialled just to see what happens.
  19. Disinfectant would be good, or even the ability to boil the needles in water? Also, how long does blood last when it isn't refrigerated?

    Thoughts on the M107 / AS50

Possible, but very unlikely. I was playing for weeks before I found a legit one. It's not so hard to figure out how to fire a gun. Firearm maintenance is another story. However, it took me some time to become proficient with the sniper rifles in DayZ. I've even written up a mildot calculation chart for reference.

In my book that makes you a skilful bandit. You got the kills, you get the gear. How often do you end up in that situation though? Every time you play, or would you say you got lucky this time? Really, to go from zero to AS50, NVGs and then repair a chopper doesn't happen every time you play. the gunfights, navigation, dealing with zombies, accidentally breaking your leg and crawling to a hospital... all of this is going to happen while you're trying to find that rotor assembly. Then once you get it flying, everyone will do their best to shoot you down.

It takes a lot of time and effort to get decent weapons and repair vehicles. You need to apply every skill to gear up and fly a chopper in the first place. When there aren't scripters, that is.

    Thoughts on the M107 / AS50

I think people are focusing too much on the typical FPS mechanics which are important in games like Counter Strike - twitch reflexes and mouse accuracy. In DayZ this is far less important. The real skills you need to develop are situational awareness, positioning and small squad tactics. Getting into the right position, choosing the right moment is paramount. I've performed a flank which took an hour to execute. That's fucking awesome to me. Also the human interaction, social stuff, deciding if someone is lying and what to do with new people. Admittedly many players turn to KoS after playing for a while as it's just safer.

    Thoughts on the M107 / AS50

Well, there has been a trend in gaming for a long time where developers make games which adjust to the player's skill level, and they bend over backwards to remove any elements which might cause frustration and disappointment. So that even if you suck, the game will come down to your level and reward you for it. People have come to expect this so-called "balance" and "fairness" in every game, and get upset when it isn't there. It's why Rocket called DayZ an anti-game. There is no mollycoddling in DayZ.

    Thoughts on the M107 / AS50

Yes. That's what makes this possibly my favourite game ever. I'm 31 right now and have been playing games since about 1988. I don't think I've ever experienced anything like what I feel when playing DayZ. It breaks all the rules. I'm of the opinion that most people who cheat with scripts can't handle the game psychologically. They get extremely upset at how unfair the game is, and cheat to compensate.
