  1. He doesn't mean 100% transparent.
  2. It only makes third person undesirable if you're using it to see around corners, it doesn't change anything about the view of the person using it. Just makes the camera visible to other players. The problems with it are purely aesthetic. Even though it's already there in the game, floating above everyone's heads, seeing it might break immersion. My opinion is that the invisible camera already breaks immersion, making it visible doesn't change anything about immersion for me. I'd definitely rather just remove it, but many people have said they want to see their character or watch themselves while travelling. I say well sure, as long as everyone else can see every manifestation of your character as well.
  3. uh... yeah. There's usually a reason for stuff.
  4. My floating orb solution did both, but nobody liked it.
  5. Wow... Multiple people have explained the same things to you over and over again in many different ways, yet you seem to have understood nothing.
  6. I think because I hate it so much I'm probably more conscious of what it can do than most people who prefer to use it. So I exploit the shit out of it in spite. While people are accusing first person players of hating third person because they get killed by "skilled" players who use third person, I'm running around as a maniac bandit on a 30+ kill-streak, exploiting third to it's full potential.
  7. Personally I only use it when I want to see around corners, over walls and hills, around trees, and sometimes I'll put the camera through a wall to see what is on the other side. I use it Specifically for PvP. If I'm alone on a server I use first person only.
  8. I'd say the journalist just didn't intend it that way. Before reading the article I assumed he meant that Dean nearly died, rather than actually had a near-death experience. He might not even be aware of the specific meaning of the phrase. Meh.
  9. If he was out there another few days he probably would have died. He was starving. And due to intestinal blockage, eating wasn't going to help. He's a skinny little dude and he lost 44 pounds. If the training didn't end there it was GG for Dean, and unfortunately there would be no respawn on the beach.
  10. That journalist actually understands what the fuck DayZ is all about. Bravo. BRB, joining AwesomeServer#1 600+vehicles|Full Weapon Loadout|Extra Barracks in every town|Auto Food and Drink|Auto Self Blood Bag|God Mode
  11. It's clearly a crap argument and a waste of time. Right now server admins can choose to have 3rdP on or off, which is a complete failure because 99% leave it on. Which means those who prefer 1st have to play on them. So much for choice. This argument is a waste of time, a distraction, a red herring. What we need to discuss is whether it should be removed or modified. Saying "CHOICE CHOICE CHOICE!" won't get us anywhere.
  12. The "freedom to choose" argument is a massive red herring. We're talking about something which is a gameplay mechanic like any other.
  13. So because choice is so important, I have no choice? Just accept it or leave the game?
  14. Some people get terribly ill playing the original DOOM.
  15. Cool, now imagine what it would be like if you could never find a decent server with nameplates switched off. So you begrudgingly join. And then you start using that mechanic to find targets and rangefind so you aren't at a massive disadvantage, even though you hate it.
  16. If I had any choice to play how I want, I wouldn't be here trying to explain why 1stP sucks in the first place. I'd just be playing the game. And I think that's why most other people who prefer 1stP are here. If there were more servers to play on which were set up how we liked, there wouldn't be any debate. But that isn't the reality, we have little choice but to play on 3rdP. So we've spoken up to bring more people around to the fact that 3rdP is a ridiculous game mechanic for a game like DayZ. Hopefully this leads to more 1stP servers so that there won't be any future debate about whether to ban it or not.
  17. I'd play on those alone if I could. I can't find one to play on with a ping less than about 400. And even those aren't populated, so I don't have any options.
  18. With 3rdP you can't choose whether or not other players decide to watch you with an invisible camera. So you're forced to use it yourself.
  19. Believe me, I'd rather see it gone altogether.
  20. Is it so different from this?
  21. That's the entire point. Most of them claim they're not using it as an exploit to see around corners, they say it's about seeing their character, not feeling ill from first person and so on. If that is true, this gives them all that without the advantages in combat. The immersion is already broken with third person in my opinion. We're using invisible floating cameras - this is LESS realistic than visible ones. If having a gunfight via floating orbs sounds crappy to you, I have bad news: If you play on third person servers, you're already doing it.
  22. In that case, make the icon take damage equivalent to a headshot. Even without that, it still removes a large part of the advantage.
  23. so a detached head floating in space? Perhaps the head and torso should be included? Or do you mean you'd rather just remove 3rdP.
  24. I think a lot of people would find that this looks really silly - players walking around with this pole and camera strapped to their back which zips around corners and above their heads to let them see around. But that illustrates exactly how silly the whole 3rdP thing is.
  25. I didn't see your posts, some interesting ideas. If the periscope were to become visible, I think it should be about the same size as a player's head and EXACTLY where the camera itself is. You only see it it they can see you, so it has the same effect as being able to see someone who is peeking around a corner. Also an indicator of what direction they're looking at is very important.
