Met a hacker... and I pity him

They're flooding the game with items which should be extremely rare. It begins to feel more like a standard shooter than a post-apocalyptic zombie survival simulation.

Met a hacker... and I pity him

So I'm still playing this mod because I think it's my favourite game ever. I can't stop. Nowadays I immediately shoot anyone I suspect of being a script kiddie, regardless of how nice they are. No sympathy any more. Me and a friend were near Balota, hunting for those guys who like to camp there and kill fresh spawns. We were carefully creeping through trees and a couple of ghillie suits with AS50's appeared out of nowhere, claiming they were friendly. We talked to them for a minute, then coordinated our attack and killed them both. We ran some distance away, and about 5 min later these same guys appeared in front of us. I managed to say "We killed you before because we suspected you of being hackers, are you hackers?" before one replied "yes", "fuck you" and then we dropped dead without a shot being fired. I would have tried to kill them again but I knew they'd get us anyway. Seems like about every second player these days has all the best gear. I just have to respawn, kill someone and bam, loaded up with gear again. These cunts really fuck the game, can't wait for stand alone!
  3. Selco, a survivor of the Balkan wars where society completely collapsed, has reviewed DayZ from his own perspective and made a few suggestions. His words are quoted here in bold and italic. Here are the parts he would like to change: That it takes no work to get stuff. In reality you have to sometimes spend time on getting things from pile of trash That there is no way to hide something. You can set up tent with some things in it but it is so easy to see that others find your things and take them most of the time. During war when I could not take something useful I often hide it to come back another night. You can not fight without weapon. In reality there were many fist fights for things because people did not want to kill others. Many players do not talk they just shoot. I think two points he made are especially good: hiding things should be easier, and there should be a method of non-lethal force. I think that if it were possible to beat people up and take their stuff instead of killing them outright, we might see more muggings and less deaths. Perhaps baseball bats which can knock people unconscious, or even fist fighting. Right now, lethal force is the only option. He also commented on what he felt was realistic about the game: That you often do not find what you look for which increases stress Finding small things like matches make a difference The relief when you find for example something to drink when you almost die of thirst Some places, like hospitals, are very few and create more than usual dangerous areas which is realistic too. Places with resources are highest risk If you die, you lose everything you collected. If you have much good stuff, you fight harder to survive. I had AK47 and some other good stuff and broke my leg because I jump from ladder. I did not want to give up and crawled to hospital in next town. That took me half hour. You can save friendly players and give them first aid. Teamwork against others helps a lot as well. It might help people to understand how you think when you have to trust someone else with your life. If in doubt you want to be the one shooting first… People often complain about bandits in DayZ. But Selco has made a lot of comments about how ruthless and evil people can be in reality. When the shit has hit the fan and there are very few resources, people may indeed shoot on sight. Camping in high traffic areas to kill survivors is a common tactic: Forget about empty towns with lot of resources laying everywhere. That happens in movies maybe. In my case many people were shot at well known water sources by snipers. It’s like lions in deserts. They wait for prey near water holes. http://shtfschool.co...-survival-game/

    Satchel Charges

Someone should pretend they're meeting up with him to give satchel charges and then assassinate him. Counter-terrorist style.

    Suggestions from a real survivor

Haha, I quoted him directly. He just talks like that.

How about a bit more realism?

i wouldn't mind if they removed the blood transfusion thing at all.

How about a bit more realism?

Ambushing people who look for loot IS realistic. Encouraging cooperation artificially is not realistic.

    Safe Zones

I think it just makes the game more realistic and challenging. "Forget about empty towns with lot of resources laying everywhere. That happens in movies maybe. In my case many people were shot at well known water sources by snipers. It’s like lions in deserts. They wait for prey near water holes." http://shtfschool.co...r-for-survival/ I think that zombies shouldn't respawn again until humans have completely left the area and return later. So if you kill all the Z's in an area, you can hold it safely as long as someone is there. Perhaps loot should work the same way too. I think that player-controlled zones would evolve naturally if it worked this way.

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

"Waah wah waaaah, I won't pay for the stand alone! wah waaah waaaaaaaah, my vagina hurts!" That's what these bitches sound like.

Of course, I'm only talking about people who cheat in this game, and I started this thread about one in particular.

    [REVIEW] DayZ Staff Communication

FUCK, it was my mother's birthday yesterday, and Rocket didn't even send her a present? Not even a god damned CARD?! Fuck Rocket and the horse he rode in on! I'll never play DayZ again!

NAIL ON THE MOTHERFUCKING HEAD. I'm surprised at the responses I've had in this thread. A lot of people seem offended, angry and upset.

God damn, hackers are a sensitive bunch. If you're not a hacker... you just missed my point entirely.

You're making assumptions about the experience I had with the guy. Here's the conversation I had with my girlfriend after we agreed to log out and escape from him: Her: "Glad that's over" Me: "Yeah, kind of pathetic wasn't it? I felt sorry for him" Her: "Yeah" I mean, we asked him if he was playing with anyone, and he even lied about that, saying "yeah" and then mumbled something I didn't understand, then he changed the subject. After this, I'd much prefer to be back-stabbed than meeting a hacker like him. Meeting nice people and adding them on skype is a completely different matter. That's not what I'm talking about, and that's not what happened. I met someone who ruined the game for me.

I mean, I could sit in a chair and imagine that I'm the king of the zombie apocalypse. That's how cheating in this game feels to me, like you're pretending you did something rather than actually doing it. Because nothing was earned, I feel nothing when I get it. The strongest feeling I had was wishing this guy would go away and stop trying to be cool and add us on Skype.

You know what, the friendly hacker ruined the game for me more than any unfriendly hacker. I'd rather die for no reason than get free shit for no reason.

Seems like there are a lot of butthurt script kiddies in this thread.

Did you make friends by spawning choppers for them?

Met a hacker... and I pity him

You're putting words in my mouth. Here's what I said: "The main thing I learned is that some (perhaps most?) hackers are sad, lonely people who just want others to accept and praise them." Every other time I've realised someone was hacking, it was because I was dropped from the sky or got killed in some other weird way. My experience has changed the way I feel about them. I used to think of them like this: But now I know at leas some of them are like this: Of course, most of them might be the former, I don't really know.

He gave us 2 ghillie suits, 4 guns and ammo, range finder, a laser thing, food, drink, NVGs, a few other things I can't remember, could see anyone who came within a couple of KMs and read their names (no nameplates on this server), offered us a chopper, gave us a quad bike, appeared in a truck, and zombies would magically drop dead within about 6 feet of him with no shots being fired when he wasn't looking. Oh, and his large sniper rifle was completely silent. Pretty sure he was cheating. And of course I'm happy to meet anyone who isn't cheating!

Met a hacker... and I pity him

No, I literally pitied him. I felt sorry for him. So I was nice and stuck around a lot longer than I wanted to because I didn't want to make him feel bad. In hindsight I wish I'd shot him like I planned.

Met a hacker... and I pity him

That's it, seems like he's a "nice" guy, but he's cheating and hoping to impress people in the game. Which completely breaks every reason I play it. I would have told him to fuck off if he wasn't so nice to me.
