How to not be killed on sight

I think the devs intent it to be for "public use". And I guess at the same time, the ppl who are overly supportive of KoS see it as a nice tool to support their group since most of them are probably not lone wolfs...
  2. Nice story. Little short and lacking a bit in depth but always nice when ppl are creative and encouraged to do something nice or write a story for a game they like. Oh and for your information. bactaria != virus. I saw you mixing that up. Bugs me a little. But that might just be me. :P

Anyone care to take a screenshot for me please? In my 70h I have yet to see rain. :(

How to not be killed on sight

And how exactly is it gonna resolve itself? Deathmatchers wont grow tired of killing others. They might grow tired of the game sooner or later and leave, but they wont grow tired of shooting others if thats what is really making the fun aspect of the game for them. But them leaving sooner or later cause they get bored doesnt mean anything. We will have new ones joining and more importantly, we will have alot more ppl who didnt like the deathmatching leaving the game so that in the end we have a half abandoned game with the majority of its player base left being death matchers. Not really a too great thing to picture for a "glorious" future of dayz. Groups of ppl hunting KoS'ers? How exactly do they do that? A bandit skin seems unlikely at the current point into the game, considering all the clothing and how it would ruin this aspect of the game for both, heroes and bandits. And even with a bandit skin. Never been in a position where you had to shoot ppl who werent bandits themselves, simply to protect yourself? 1,2, boom. Youre a bandit. Even though you are not. Wait, what? Exactly. And now leaving the bandit skin aside. How will they find out whos a deathmater and whos not? Simply shoot everyone with a gun? Makes them a deathmatcher too. Global chat wont be a thing, afaik - so no names told. Besides, you dont see names anyways. Are they gonna wait until someone of their group gets taken out before they take action? Thats a very ineffective way, wont happen. And even if it will - how do they know that the guy who killed one of them didnt shoot cause he felt threatened by their presence and not because hes a deathmatcher? Leaving this to itself wont change it, it will just give this trend the freedom to spread violently until we are where we were at the mod again. Like I said earlier though. I am not a fan of restrictions. I would much rather prefer it to give players an incentive to interact with strangers. Something rewarding, something fun - aside from the experience that they are already missing out on anyways. The game needs something that makes you actually think and decide whether you wanna do x fun experience with x random stranger or just plainly shoot him in the face when he doesnt even know youre there.

I Am Now Witnessing My First Rainfall In Game

Friends and me talked about this and though it will probably be too hard/impossible to implement with the current engine, more weather effects like hail or very strong wind, snow etc would be cool. Even better, changing seasons. Maybe having the season change once a month. Would keep it interesting and would have you change your clothes on a regular base if you wanna stay camouflaged. Suddenly the naked guy in white shirt is less obvious than the green camo guy in soldier clothing. :D

How to not be killed on sight

I can see where you are coming from. But you fail to see some aspects of it. I am running around with alot of ppl I have known for longer than ArmA2 even existed. I can trust them, put my life into their hands knowing they wont disappoint me. If they fail at something, they tried and failed giving their best. They would never do something to harm me or the group. That gives you a certain comfy zone. And its that comfy zone that dayz was aiming to deny to players. You were supposed to think about your actions, plot how to betray others or if they might betray you before you team up with them. By teaming up with a random player you create a very fragile basis of trust that can be broken any moment if you just so happened to meet the wrong guy. On the other hand, the guy you just found could be the most loyal public youll ever see. You never know that before you try and that makes the biggest thrill of public interaction of dayz. That is actually a HUGE part that most ppl are missing out on, simply because they dont get the chance or wont risk the chance of teaming up with a random player, let alone talking to them. They see you, they shoot. No interaction AT ALL. That is whats bad. If someone sees you with a weapon that you just so happen to aim at him and he takes you out without talking, thats something different. If someone talks to you and you got some good gear and he wants that and he takes you out thats something different aswell. Thats the risk of interaction. But just shooting at someone who doesnt even know youre there is ruining this very underestimated thrill of the game that could improve everyones experience by far. I joined the mod in july 2012 when deathmatching was already at its current high. I learned to shoot everything that moves because my friends told me that I would get killed otherwise. And I acted accordingly, seeing as I had no experience with the game and they did. It took our group near enough 1 year to engage the first few public players in a friendly manner and meet up with them, knowing that they had weapons too. We were very very cautious about it but it worked. But ever since then, we never did it again - until the standalone that is. Experiencing all this interaction with strangers and seeing all different kinds of reactions, from friendly over funny and sad to plain brutal, absolutely blew my mind and made me realize what we missed out on all that time. And everyone agreed on this, up to yesterday or so. We got shoot one too many times once again by some random guys who were camping some places and just shot at everything that moves, so that now it always has a very very bitter taste of not instinctively shooting as soon as we see an armed person. We still try to approach them from a save angle and tell them we are friendly and ask them to lay their weapons down, but if the current trend continues back to where it was at the mod(which it seems to do) we wont do that for long anymore. And that is sad cause thats a great part of the game ruined, once again. I dont want that to happen AGAIN.

How to not be killed on sight

Haha, thanks. I gotta admit though. When me and my friends are bored, we sometimes go to cherno/elektro and shoot everyone with a weapon(not new spawns though as thats pretty douchy). But we do that, knowing that we will go down one by one sooner or later. Its a last man standing so to say with those who died minding their own business and meeting up with the other dead ones, rather than coming back and continuing the killing spree. Its sort of a "hard reset" on your character that gives you the incentive to find good gear again when youre all geared up and got nothing to find anymore. Other than that, we try to avoid killing others. We always try to approach armed ppl from behind, telling them that we are friendly and that they should either lay down their weapons or not turn around. They turn around with their weapons in their hands(unless its a melee weapon) they gotta die, due to self defense. The only ppl we show no mercy to are ghosters when we find them while we are looting. They get shot while loading in, no questions asked. Its just much more fun, running around in cherno and taking ppl with an axe hostage(when they claim they got friends) or handcuffing them, stealing their blood and then letting them go and giving them some food for complying. ^^

Can the standalone use several CPU cores?

Running game on FX 8320, geforce gtx 660ti and 8gb ram@1600mhz with everything maxed out as much as possible. Having about 50-60fps average. In the new appartment areas and when entering cherno or elektro I get drops down to 25, sometimes 20. Very rarely 15 for a short period until everything loaded. After that(in those crowded areas) im running at stable 35-40. Game is a little choppy at times though. You get lagspikes of split seconds. It is due to bad optimization on the server side though. Noticed that because every friend of mine gets those lag spikes at the same time I do. Its like those glitchy reload and soda can ambient sounds. You get it? Everyone else does too.

The shittiest thing just happenend to me!

Haha, I got pushed of a balcony that didnt like me on my first day. Never ever have I entered one of those new appartmant buildings balconies anymore. Second day, I climb up the ladder to the roof of one of those things. As I am up, my guy decides to fall down cause he did the "getting off the ladder animation" on the spot, so there was nothing below my feet. Only broke my legs, but it took my friends 2 hours to find morphine. I swore to never ever enter those appartments again until the game goes retail. lol

How to not be killed on sight

While Im not a fan of KoS(Banditry, yes. Stupid cod-like kos, no. killing others cause you have to/feel threatened? sure) I gotta agree with the OP on some points. Players always take their chances. If youre unarmed, they have an axe 9/10 players will hack you to death even if you talk to them ingame and explain youre a new spawn with nothing on you. If you have the axe, the other guy is unarmed 9/10 guys will magically be friendly. Apply axe/fists to any other weapon relation. Guy with pistol, if not in a position to ambush the others, will rarely ever pick a fight with a guy who has an m4 etc etc. So right now, if you are not armed properly DONT run around infront of armed guys like a headless chicken with the mentality of a 5yo kindergarden child who wants to be friends with everyone. IT WONT WORK! And if you have a weapon? Youre still not save. Considering the current drop rate of weapons like the m4, everyone who has 2 brain cells and managed to survive longer than 5 minutes can find a good weapon and ammo. That includes nasty ghosters. Heck, go and hide unless you dont mind dying. The only way to be relatively save is to walk around in a group of 5 ppl in an area where it is hard to get ambushed. If youre on the streets in cherno a lonesome m4 gunner will still take his chance on a group of 5 ppl. And then theres the occasional badass who doesnt care and runs at you with an axe in the open. ^^ Hiding, right now, is the best thing you can do to avoid getting killed. And I can just say it again. I am NOT a friend of KoS. But I dont agree with most of the whiners either. I see KoS as a relatively "small" problem. Not because I mind it too much but because you cant do too much about it without a: fundamentally changing the entire game or b: funamentally restricting players of their freedom of choice which can be(in some situations) very decisive on whether or not they will live to see the next day. Sometimes you got the feeling that this guy with the pistol will just attack you when he sees you -> you take him out. If (considering the old system) he wasnt a bandit already or had any murders, youd basically get punished by the game for following what your gut told you to do in order to SURVIVE in a SURVIVAL GAME. And that is not good at all. I want this problem to be adressed. I dont like relying solely on the people I knew for years now and I am on teamspeak with. I dont want to be shot by every single mofo I meet, no questions asked. I want some interaction with others. I want to get robbed legitimately if I am stupid enough to run in a situation that will allow for that to happen. I want this to be a survival RPG MMO rather than a free-for-all-fuckfest MMO with some zombies. But rushing this delicate matter and restricting what ppl are allowed to do or what they get punished for by your imaginary ingame-god(saying ingame so some of you wont get offended irl :P) is not the right way to go. Much rather giving ppl a reason to interact with each other instead of shooting on sight. How would you rather fight crime in real life? By brutal punishment AFTER the crime was committed or by giving the criminals a reason not to commit the crime in the first place? Act and suggest according to your answer on this question. Its rather similar on this matter.

Getting sick from using Alcohol on wounds

It is a glitch. If you apply disinfection spray or alcohol to someone elses or your own wounds when there are none, you get sick. If you were bleeding however and you bandage yourself and someone else is spraying stuff on you while you bandage, its fine and no sickness ever appears. So yeah. Sick, take it and the sickness will disappear. Not sick? If you take it, you will get sick for a brief moment. Nothing serious though. Wont through up, wont fall unconscious - unless youre in a pretty fucked up state already.

Does any one else feel burnt out already?

70 hours currently. Playing in a relatively small group of 3-6 people. Though it has lost its flavour of the first day(which was pretty awesome considering I died about 5 times before I managed to get enough supplies to get further inland) it is still pretty nice. It also runs goddamn good and stable for an alpha. I have played other alphas and even betas that were performing a ton worse. Had a total of 3 crashes in those 70 hours and apart from that I only glitched into walls at times. Inventory system is a little buggy sometimes too but thats all about glitches that I could really find. Nothing troublesome. Other than that it is a little short of content, compared to the mod. But considering that the mod was a "final product" that kept getting developed further to where it is now by the community for the last year and this one isnt final yet, again, thats nowhere close to troublesome. I am rather trying to play more and more and more to find out everything about our current content so that I can check out everything about new content and focus solely on that when it comes out. Right now I still did not visit every new place they put it. I have yet to go to the northern pass thing at the debug field and heck I dont even know if the debug fields still exist or if they were replaced by a natural border. Yes, M4s are too easy to find. Yes, zombies are no challenge. I have probably met more players than zombies thus far. But since we are still fairly early into the game, most ppl I met were friendly which made for some nice and sometimes hilarious and unique moments. Also, trying to run around in cherno as a blood bandit is fun aswell. Being able to restock on weapons within 10min after respawn in mind, you can just carelessly walk on the streets in cherno and rob every single person you see of their blood. Wouldnt do that sorta shit in the mod. Heck, wouldnt even go close to cherno tbh. The alpha still hasnt lost its flavour. Its just warming up to a new phase of more awesomeness, especially with all the new content aimed at late 2013 and early 2014 around the corner. Cant wait.
  13. 70 hours here, not a single hacker found. Though a friend has been showing me a stream of a hacker who was advertising his product. It was mostly a noclip that didnt let you fly. And because the server couldnt catch up, the guy frequently landed in the ocean and couldnt get out cause there was no land even close to him. He also didnt have godmode(which isnt possible to obtain anymore anyway if im correct) cause he managed to get his leg broken when clipping through a building. xD That was the only "attempt" at hacking I have witnessed, though only through a stream and not personally. So I am not sure if it was prerecorded and maybe changed a little. It was definitely the alpha and not the mod though, since he was using the new inventory system and his character kept whining that hes thirsty. All in all not too troublesome, especially with more security measures coming up later this year(which cant be too far away now) according to rockets roadmap.

    A cabin and the swamp....

Running around with 5 ppl at the shore from berezino to elektro(we wanted to clear out the hospitals since we were in dire need of meds). New spawn comes running towards us. "Hey man, we are friendly". Guy talks and is nice, we give him food, say bye, go our way again. About 30sec later someone mentions that the guy is still behind us, so we stop to ask what he wants. (all of us at this point had m4s and mosins, all loaded with weapon mods and ammo etc). Guy starts running around, circling us all, punching us in the faces. We gave him about 5 warnings, he didnt stop. Shot him. When he died, he called us douches for killing an unarmed person. Some ppl...

The Alpha NEEDS a SUICIDE option!

Definitely pro respawn. Ive been stuck in a building 3 times now. First time my game crashed, character kept running(at light speed appareantly according to friends) into a house while I was losing connection. Spawned inside the house that you cant enter. Had to vault and jump for about 1min to get out. Second time I glitched through the floor in a mall and ended up 2m below ground level. Had to run around find a slope to "jump back into the world" and the third time I logged out next to a wall when a server restarted. When the server was back up and I joined, I spawned in the room you cant enter and got stuck there. The only thing to get me out of there was to run and jump towards the wall and quickly quit so the server(with its current desync) saves my character in the other room(since you currently glitch through walls on the screen of other ppl). When I respawned I was fine again. Dont have a problem losing my gear, especially since its an alpha. But if I literally just drank 20L of water at a well and ate 3 entire cans of beans thats gonna be a looooooooong wait until I starve, especially if I dont move. A friend also managed to "teleport" through a wall by repeatedly running against it and punching it with an axe. lol Seriously, this alpha needs a respawn. Dont give a flying fuck if some idiots are gonna abuse it to end up by their friends position. Honestly, who cares? We are NOT here to play(competitively). We are here to test the alpha, find a weakness in it, find glitches. We are here to provoke bad, game breaking things happening to us. But we cant do this if the game punishes us for doing so because some ppl cant get over the fact that this isnt the final version of the game yet and they shouldnt be bitching about ppl abusing respawn...

Should it be easier to keep fed/hydrated?

Isnt it that you already start losing tiny amounts of blood/health as soon as its yellow?
  17. Xandariel

Should it be easier to keep fed/hydrated?

The only time it is really "tough"(not too much) to survive is right after you spawned on a high populated server where the shore has been looted dry. Apart from that it has gotten even easier to survive. Once you get used to the new system, you just run up to a well/waterpump and drink 15 times, fill up 2 bottles and thats that for drinking. Eating isnt really the problem anymore either with items like powdered milk around that only take 1 slot and you can eat from 10 times. It is so ridiculously easy to stay alive food and drink wise, that Im not really surprised that most ppl went from discovering, back to killing others for the lulz of it.
  18. Xandariel

    need help never played

Theres currently lots of others around who would gladly team up. Out of maybe 15 strangers I ran into yesterday, 14 were nice and only one wasnt. But the latter didnt even try to kill me, he was just paranoid and forced me to go away by pointing a gun at my face. ^^ Just try your luck. Currently theres more friendlies than bandits out there it seems. And I guess it will stay like this until everyone finds sniper rifles etc again...
  19. Yep, there are different blood types. Theres blood tests out there. Dont know how they work though. A friend is the doc in our group. But we have already forced a stranger near stary to give us 3 blood bags full of his blood and I had a bag of it injected into me. Poor bugger probably collapsed after that. Hope he didnt. We even left him some food and drink for being so cooperative. xD

    Food

Try to find a can opener at any cost. That will make getting food alot easier. Also, try to get a water bottle or canteen(even if empty). You can refill them at wells in towns and cities and at some ponds. Its always better to have those things you can refill. Not only can you drink out of them many times and save much inventory space, you can also refill them which makes the overall process of finding drinks alot easier. Also, try to go further inland. Since the server only spawns loot when it starts and not during the game anymore, coastal areas are bound to be empty very shortly after a server restart. Try finding small places with a few houses that arent marked as towns on the map. In my experience you got the best chance to find stuff there because most ppl wont head there or ignore them. The overall shortage of food and drink is good. Makes you focus alot more on survival instead of "Oh I got an Axe now, lets kill noobs at the coast". BUT due to the short time it takes atm to get hungry and thirsty the food drops, especially at the shore, might need some tweaking. Cause otherwise therell be no chance for new spawning ppl to find something before they die. In my experience you got about 15-20min before you fall unconscious after you spawned. At some point all of the things you can reach within that time after you spawned are looted. So yeah, give us more time to be thirsty and hungry or make food and drink around the coast more common, devs.

    DayZ: Born Survivor

You sir, have earned your beans. :3
  22. I wake up, my head hurts. It feels like I have once again been drinking too much. Very close, I hear waves of water hitting the shoreline, one by one. It is dark, very dark and I dont know where I am. My stomach grumbles, but I dont have food on me. Where am I? How did I get here? What is going on? So many questions inside of my head. But no time to think about them for too long now. I need to find food first. In the distance I see a city. "Maybe someone over there can tell me more and help me" I think. And so I grab my flashlight and start my journey towards what I will get to know to be Chernogorsk. After a while of running, I see a person stumbling around on the street. Maybe he can tell me where I am. As I get closer to the man, I notice that something is not right with this man. He turns around and as he spots me, he starts running towards me. "Are you alright?" I yell at him, in a friendly manner. His reaction, a fearsome moaning makes my bones chill. I am scared. I cant move. He gets closer and closer to me. By now I know that whatever he is doing, I sure dont want to stick around to see what is wrong with him. I get to my senses and run. The man keeps following me for a while, as I get closer and closer to the city. A few minutes later, I managed to lose him in between some houses. By now I am in the middle of the big city that was my destination. He seemed like he was trying to kill me. Why? What did I, of all people, do to him? As I come to my senses and the adrenaline slowly fades, I notice that something is not right with this town. It looks abandoned. No lights. Open doors left and right. Just where in gods name am I? I am very thirsty and hungry. My body is shaking and I am slowly feeling my consciousness fading. I decide to look for food. As I wander around the streets, I end up infront of a big church. There it is again. This moaning. Did the man from earlier follow me? Did he find me again? I can feel the adrenaline go through my body as I hear more and more moaning coming from all directions? I feel desperate and for a moment I think I am going to die in this godforsaken place. "Psst" I hear it coming from behind the church "Get off the street". I follow the voice and eventually I see a man with a spade and a gas mask cower in a corner. Carefully I walk towards him, still remembering what happened the list time I tried to get close to a stranger. "What the hell is going on here?" I ask him. He tells me to follow him and that I will get my answers very soon if I stick close and do what he says. We end up at a grocery store that seems to have been abandoned. The stranger and I sit down in the back. He shares his food and drink with me and tells me where I am, what is going on and what to do. I dont know what to think. His story sounds like it comes directly out of a bad written novel. But I cannot deny what I have seen, so I decide to believe him. As we talk further I get to know the strangers name - Tom. He says that he has friends that he wants to meet at an airfield very close to this city and asks me if I want to accompany him. I dont think about it for long and agree to follow. Anything to get out of this hellish place. As we grab some scarce food and drinks, left in the story, he tells me more about his plans. He wants to go north. Far north. But our only hope to make it there is the airfield, as we dont have a map and supplies are very short. Maybe we will find a vehicle, maybe even something to fly with. I am starting to have hope that I will make it out of this country alive. We turn our flashlights off and go east. Far east. As we get closer to the airfield, we see lights flickering through the forest that we are in. Interested we go further and eventually we arrive by the airfield. The lights have stopped. What I see, it terrifies me. Bodies. Everywhere. Dead bodies left and right. We search for supplies in the radio tower but find nothing useful. Tom says his friends should be already here. He seems worried. As we go into one of the hangars we see someone sitting in a corner. It is one of Toms friends. He is bleeding. Next to him, the other friend. He is dead. "What do we do?" I ask. We dont have medical supplies. Tom pulls out some rags to stop the bleeding. And there we go, it worked. His friend explains what happened. They were looking for supplies when they got attacked by zombies. We sit in the dark and talk for a while. Shortly after, his friend fell unconscious. "We have to leave him" Tom says. "What? Why?" I ask. "Because we have no medical supplies and we cant hope to find any close to here" Tom answers. I feel uncomfortable, I am scared and desperate. There are no vehicles. Toms friends died and we have almost no supplies left. Am I going to die after all? In the distance, we see large appartment buildings on a hill, just on the other side of a forest. Tom says that they are our only hope for now. As we leave, we dont look back. By now I realized that I wont make it out of here without Tom and his knowledge of the area. We talk more, on the way. Tom tells me about his story. He too found himself close to the shore, a while before I did. He met his friends, that are dead now, while he was running through a forest, trying to get away from a zombie. They helped him and showed him around. We arrive at the appartments. "Wow, this place looks abandoned" I say to him as we enter one of the enormous buildings. The staircase is destroyed. Our only way up is through an elevator shaft with a rusty ladder. My stomach tells me not to do it, but what chance do we have? I grab onto the ladder and start climbing up. Not once, I look down. Too great the fear of falling. As we finally get out of the elevator shaft we find a couple of open doors. "Someone has been here before" Tom says to me. We decide to look for loot nonetheless. We are about to starve after all. Tom says its better if we split up. This way we can look for food faster. I agree and we part ways for now. After a while of searching, all we had found was a rotten banana. I took it. Didnt care if it was rotten or not. It was food and that was all that mattered. We decided to check the other buildings aswell. As we come to the last building, this it has gotten to be a routine way of searching. I take the lower floors, tom takes the upper ones. No words needed. After I was done and have been sitting around waiting for a while, I decided to go upstairs. Something was not right. Tom never took that long. I search through the upper appartments but no sign of Tom. I climb up on the roof - and again, nothing. Did he leave me without saying anything? That didnt seem like him. I waited a bit longer and eventually, I decided to go. I had to. As I reached bottom floor I saw him, dead. It looked like he fell all the way from the roof. Was it an accident? Did he jump? Why would that matter to me now. I am lost. He was my only hope and now I am on my own again. What do I do now? I feel desperate. Was this all for nothing? Did I go through all of that, just to die here now, on my own? I dont know what do to. After sitting around for a while I decide to try my luck. If I will die on the way, fine. I dont have better chances at surviving if I stick around here for any longer. Too many zombies around. I grab Toms stuff - what was left of it at least and go. North. Maybe I will be able to make it through the vast lands and forests and find a way out of this place. Thanks to tom I got a good amount of supplies now at least. As I start my journey I think of what might be lying ahead of me now. But that, I dont know. Only the future will tell.
  23. Is it just me or are vet servers getting really rare? I can hardly find any good vanilla servers without 556674655 vehicles, super active n nice n whatnot admins and ALWAYS DAY OMG!!!11311!1 But finding a vanilla server that is also on the right version, that has more than only 5 players AND that is on veteran setting, seems almost impossible nowadays. Very unfortunate, I think. If you guys know any decent servers that fit with this description, let me know. Preferably european servers. Im really having a hard time finding some.

    [TRADE] Rangefinder

Though he had the bandit skin and my characters heart was pounding like hell(how many fucking ppl did you kill, dude? ^^), the deal went down properly, without anything bad. I consider him to be worth trusted and recommend to trade with him, if he has another offer and you guys are interested.

    [TRADE] Rangefinder

LU294. Join that server and meet up with me at 11:00am server time at the gas station between Solnichny and Berezino.(you should have a watch and a map, since you have all that badass gear). Come alone. Since this offer seems to be kind of suspicious, I will bring an overwatch, just for my own safety. He wont interfer, if you dont show any signs of shooting me. Also, have your pistol instead of your gun equipped. And pls stay low. I dont want to alert the whole server, cause youre shooting zombies. If youre ok with that, be there at 11:00am. If not, ignore the offer and pls let me know(dont wanna run through the whole map for nothing). If you need evidence that I own rangefinders, I can take a screenshot, since I launch the game using steam.
