apologists are delaying development.

I have to admit, I laughed at his response. :P -
I'm wondering if any of you out there have any good ideas when it comes to storage. This is NOT a thread to share your viewpoint on whether you think they should add storage or not. It is a thread for ideas for storage objects. I was trying to think about some sort of storage that includes the existing game mechanics, whether it be persistent or temporary. I thought, why not a cardboard box? Say you're walking around and you find one of these: and then find this: You could lay the cardboard on the ground where you would want to place the constructed box. Place duct tape in hand and build this: Have it hold as many things as the smaller sports backpack. But here's the catch. Like in reality, cardboard that gets wet, can be destroyed over time. So make the rain getting things wet be applied to these storage containers as well. Over time they deteriorate into: After they are in a "ruined" state, they can disappear on server restart? Once in a ruined state, you can take the existing items in them, out of the container, but can no longer place items in them? OR maybe they will only disappear on restart if 10% or less of the space within the container is occupied? I'm not sure here, but these are some ideas. I'm hoping this thread sparks some of your own ideas. :)

someone sort of did this with melee weapons in a video I once saw. I think they were smart not to give out the guns, as they could have easily turned them on their captors. I know damn well that if I were one of the 'contenders', I would have played along with it right up to the point of drawing and firing and put the bullet right into the face of the person doing the countdown :)

I do like the suitcase idea. It obviously wouldn't hold a lot, but I suppose it would be better than nothing. I would think that realistically, within the capabilities of the game engine, you would want to try to have something you have to build so that a million suitcases aren't spawning and the hive has to keep track of an area with a million "placed" said suitcases though.
-
hahah! Glad you didn't wake the boy. Carry on with your superior spawning sir, and enjoy the weekend :P
-
Irish, I cannot top that spawning position. The best I've had was around Stary. But this one you show is quite rare indeed.

Balota no longer spawns tac vests/certain gear?

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Gekkonidae replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
To those saying this is not a hacker... lulzwtf.. I've only seen 1 hacker while playing this game so far and that guy was doing the exact same shit this one is, except he had a gun. It's the teleport hack every one of those lame asses uses. ..or it could be very calculated, and precise desync. Tactical desync? hmmmmmm..... -
Yep, and this is the risk you take. Sure. 95% of people will shoot at you first or on-sight. If you want there to be friendlier people out there, you yourself have to stick it out and risk it in order for that situation to ever become anywhere near a normal occurrence for players. Being friendly is many times a thankless job. Mainly because while your intentions mean well, but sometimes you never get a chance to explain yourself before taking some lead to the dome. Where if you had the chance to explain yourself, the assailant likely would have not decided to gank you. Unfortunately, that's the truth. I've taken the hero path lately to experiment with it. I find it a lot more challenging than being a bandit, but the interactions seem to be a bit more broad and enjoyable, if you're into interacting with people. So, to me, that's the trade off. If you would like a potentially more enjoyable and fulfilling interactions with other players, then you have to risk your life by playing that way, and offering your generosity to others. If that isn't your thing, and you want to stalk people and kill them, then you can play that way, too. However, I find the former role a lot harder to maintain. To me, personally, I like the reward of another player to have your back when you're friendly. It always ends up being a unique experience. Not to say that being a bandit or a killer doesn't have its unique rewards either, because it does. I just happen to like the experiences I get more by risking it and being friendly. It's all about how you enjoy playing really. I do wish there were a little bit more friendlier people out there at the moment, but I've realized you have to set the example yourself if you want to see the numbers change.

Looks like i'll go jump into then before they patch it over. I must know what lies within the black hole.

Agree. To add my own opinion to this, I really don't think games are hardcore enough anymore. They reward, like cheap dog treats to keep an interest. I remember playing a few online games where you really had to work your ass off to get some good stuff, and the experience of the journey itself, and perhaps the people you enjoyed it with, was the most rewarding thing you could get, even if you got item 'whatever' at the end. I've been playing online games for 16 or so years and have seen better concepts in online gaming than most of the ones going around today by a long shot. Perhaps that's why I enjoy this game so much. I really enjoy the wide open landscape and the choices you get to make for yourself and others. Even more, the fact that, just like in reality, you aren't permanent, and you learn from your mistakes. It lays the groundwork for a more open culture, instead of playing in one only defined by obviously intentional, marketed boundaries. You have boundaries in this game, but the scope isn't so narrow. I like this style of game much more because it has the opportunity to let you see some really industrious use of a players time and some great ingenuity from people, too. It's really hard to find that in a style of game like this anymore. It's usually really sliced into heavily monitored bits for obvious financial gain. I don't know about you, but that's really fucking boring to me and not the experience I personally like to get from gaming. Just my 2 cents. -
He's making you go on a quest is what :P Maybe morphine from balota is better grade and gets you higher? haha!
-
Did you jump into it? You have to jump into it and tell us what happens.

yeah I was going to say, didn't they add like 50 more a few weeks back? Set your ping results a little higher and adjust your search filter. Once you see them all pop up, favorite all of them and you'll forever have them in your favorites list without having to dig around for them.

all you alpha-dogs, tell me, how you play the game and what you wanna see in the future? [survey]

Personally enjoy survival but like PVP. I focus on both survival and pvp items. I play alone on Mid-pop servers so I both have a chance to find items and possibly get to interact with people (for better or worse lol) Usually mid to high pop servers with around 12 ex-clan mates when i'm bored (so we can rampage all over the server). I think that surviving is a bit too easy at the moment and should be harder. I also think that team play should be encouraged just a little more (though, I think that will come later with structure barricading/building and storage), and I like a nice balance of PVE, PVE and survival.Keeps you busy. -

Why getting killed is a good thing...kinda
Gekkonidae replied to Dashisbest's topic in General Discussion
When I get fully geared, I really only enjoy it for a while until I realize that the adrenaline rush was really in the journey of getting decked out that made me enjoy playing. Sure, I'll go get into a couple of firefights or whatever, when i'm fully geared. But I almost always end up just giving all of my gear away to coastal scrubs. I also nearly always divvy it out among 2 or 3 players so they at least have something to work toward and don't end up with that current 'end-game- "what do I do now?"' feeling that I get. -

I know that when the pitchfork was first hinted at, when they were adding it, the dev mentioned stabbing. I think they are considering this, but for the sake of getting into the game for the moment, it has a slash attack. I'm thinking that later they will probably add this, but for now it probably on the isn't of huge priorities. It is in, at least, and it is a viable alternative to axes. Those pitchforks do some pretty mean damage. I've already 'Wolverined' the hell out of some people with one. And it seems to me that it does have a little reach to it. Maybe it is my imagination though, -
What is the playstyle people would give you.
Gekkonidae replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Probably a Hero anymore. A couple of months ago, Bandit all the way. I like to play certain roles to help out groups. Carry ammo, be a medic, help track enemies for people, help coordinate attacks, etc. Not that I always take a back seat to action, but you'd be really surprised at what advantages some assistance or an extra pair of eyes can provide, especially if you're being tactical. I'll help out anyone, even bandits at times. I suppose I just like to group up with people and see what we can get done. -
"Private Servers" exist and it does no good to report them

Same here. At least when it gets to the pulling of your pants down part irl, you might actually be getting laid. -
DayZ Sound Design Test - Part 3 Final Added
Gekkonidae replied to fortran's topic in General Discussion
These were brilliantly made. You made the entire game sound like a different experience. I really liked the gate opening/rubbing up against stuff audio. You'd be a bit more hesitant about opening gates if they made that much noise. The whole thing just sounds that much more immersive. Game changer and totally badass work! I hope the Devs have seen this! Edit: Never mind. I saw Dean's reddit response. I see his points there. Makes sense. However, this is a very nice glimpse of what could eventually be! Great work! -

They might be making updates to fix some of this stuff is why they might be temporarily down. Or they are doing it as part of maintenance. I'd just be patient and let them do their jobs. They've been getting quite a bit of backlash from impatient rage/whiner nerds from what I've seen. If I were a dev there's no way in hell I would ever post where I'd be at with anything if I received some of the responses I've been reading, goddamn! I would just be patient and be happy with the level of transparency they are providing to the community. They don't exactly have to say shit, if they really didn't want to. Sorry, just reading how impatient and nasty some people are makes my head spin. These guys are all hauling ass on trying to get everything fixed. I'm sure additional stress is not going to make them get it done any faster. -
I would first make sure my family was safe. If it weren't safe to stay at home, I would gather my family, weapons and food/drink/extra clothes and find a safer place where people are gathered and shoot/mow down approaching zeds for fun. If it were somewhat safe to stay home, I would set up a fence perameter, board entrances up, gather everything we needed and planned for emergency moving to the attic. Would still mow down zeds with weapons for fun.:) I'm confident I already have a fair amount of stuff to survive with at home, if the situation ever warranted. Not that i'm some end-of-the-world crazy preparation sort of guy, but I suppose my interests otherwise have somewhat lent a hand to this hypothetical scenario.

Pretty cool, but I see what you mean there. Large numbers like that beg for communication management/structure though. I've been in quite a few bigger clans and it can be a huge fustercluck without smaller squads and their leaders. usually the best way to do that is to break it off in 5's so that communication is clear, and then filter communication up through squad leaders into a squad leader channel, then have 1 additional guy managing that channel. That way everything stays flowing and calculated, with no miscommunication, and you or anyone else doesn't end up dead. :P

Sounds like some Robin Hood action going down here. This reminds me, an old MMO I used to play had a huge following of noobs/bambis that actually started a militia. I'm talking a good 300 or so people following it. Large groups would jump onto a server, mass together and run as a calculated unit, destroying geared up players using just their fists, or any other meager weapon they could get their hands on. They used the whole gang/strength in numbers mentality. It actually worked out well. It was quite epic to watch 20 or so guys take down fully geared/higher level people. Sure, the higher level guys killed a few of them, but when you have 20 guys on you, you're going down whether you like it or not. A lot of the higher level guys tried to wise up to this by sniping. The massive army of bambis had squad leaders that would triangulate the attackers positions and kill them off, too. I was able to witness a couple of instances where they would raid cities and utterly destroy everything in their path. Reminded me of a swarm of locusts. No one was safe from their onslaught.
