This thread has been used as a place for constant updates by the community in the past, i'm not sure what's stopping people from using it as that now. So post your findings here people :) -
hahaha! This is all I could think about when reading this:
-
lol my god. give the mods a break for fuck's sake. Just because you can poke holes in their stances doesn't mean you should. You need to understand that they're ultimately here to clean up trash and keep the peace. Believe me, I've been a moderator before and it's hardly ever a picnic. Have a little fucking respect. :P

People never really stop to think
Gekkonidae replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Because they have nothing to lose by doing that, and everything to gain. This is why, even on experimental, I never stay on the coast long. Too annoying. I leave the babies to play there, while i'm actually getting good gear :) -
DayZ Experimental | More people are silent and do not want to talk?
Gekkonidae replied to theswedishcathead's topic in General Discussion
I haven't had my mic on the last couple of days, but that doesn't stop me from chatting. I haven't personally been killed on experimental. I also don't really see the point in killing on it because it's there to test things. Everyone I meet I help out. They all seem friendly to me. Hooked a guy up with rope + burlap sack + sticks, food, water, UK vest, ballistic helmet, lantern, pickaxe and an xbow earlier. He was beyond excited and was testing everything out. People want to see and test the new stuff on experimental, so why go around slaughtering people? save that shit for the regular servers is what i say. -
yeah i was screaming at the video the whole time "STAND UP!!!" they are screwy when crouched/prone at the moment. It's experimental for a reason. I really hate to say this, but also, alpher.

Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.42.116002
Gekkonidae replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
I knew I wasn't alone in seeing hat central all over the map haha. Even if they made more shirts/pants available, it would be better than hats. I'm not sure what the loot tables look like, but it would be a little more realistic to have more shirts/pants scattered about than hats in an apocalyptic scenario imo. -

yeah i found a pickaxe and a scythe (pretty sure they took them out? but they are back in now?) Also, I spawned on top of a hill where i think Klen is. It's northwest of Khelm if you look at the map. Ran to Black Mountain in about 5 minutes. I'm not sure if that spawn was there before, but it was nice to spawn somewhere other than the coast. Was out in the middle of nowhere :) Was a little easier getting inland to get loot. Can't wait to check out binocs. -
hehe I still do that sometimes, but lately i've just been sticking with what I have and trying my luck from there. Unless it's a town I was already through on that last life, and I know it was picked clean. Then I do that :)

Tents and Camps and Goals / what I miss
Gekkonidae replied to normandy's topic in General Discussion
That has to be the dumbest fucking suggestion I've ever heard. I highly doubt the devs would ever agree to do that, so I really wouldn't worry about it. As you said, that is the whole point of having persistent objects/containers. sure, you get them, but at the risk of being found, cleaned out and/or destroyed. Dying has nothing to do with it. -
As someone else mentioned, your best bet is to go to dayzdb.com and look at the map. Once you die a few times you'll start noticing landmarks and become more familiar with where you are. Elle has it right. If the ocean is on your left you should be going south, as the ocean is to the east. If it's to your right, you should be on the coast going north. It takes time, but you'll figure it out. Next thing you know, you'll know exactly where you are as soon as you spawn in about 95% of the time.

Just had a bunch of invisible zombies beat my face in on the new exp. version :( Was talking to a guy in town when all of the sudden a bunch of them started whaling on me. Dumped what very little i had for the guy, told him to run and let them eat me. I couldn't hit them with my axe even though i could kind of tell where they were hitting me from. -
Next life mission: I'm going to try to survive solely on bacon and rasputin kvass for as long as possible. If only they had processed sliced cheese to add to the mix... I usually eat a lot of rice, powdered milk and drink a ton of water.
-
Yeah, i'd really give them a little time here. I think the next update is going to be a bit of a big one. I think that it can only escalate with the new team added and the coming patches throughout the summer.

If you could change one thing about SA right now....

I'm seconding dogs with rocket launcher packs. This would fix everything. -
Looking back, Do you think that EA release was a good idea?
Gekkonidae replied to c00lface's topic in General Discussion
I think that they released it at the right time for the sake of sales. I do like the disclaimers stating it's Alpha though. Knowing this, I bought it and understand that I don't have to play it a bunch, but it will always be there at the 30 bucks I spent on it. It's obviously not a finished game, but i do think it will be loads more finished by the end of December. I don't really see a problem in my eyes. -
This seems like an issue of the guy just hanging around berenzino looking to ruin people's day. After killing you once, there probably wasn't anyone else around to torment. Having already killed you, he probably grew a conscience out of boredom and decided to give you a hand lol. Still BS using hacks, but nice that he decided to attempt to make up for being a dick about it in the first place.

This has been discussed a few times already. The general consensus (from what I've seen anyway) is that bullets are a good bartering chip, as well as any extra weapons or bigger food items (rice, cereal, beans). In the trades i've done, bullets were the most common want/need by other players. I was also able part with 3 bags of rice for a couple of boxes of .22 ammo and a speed loader for my magnum. As the above poster said, you need to be careful about trading, and there really isn't an official, fixed rate for this stuff. It's all about trading for what you need and hopefully trading with someone who will come to an agreement on a fair price for those items. I'm all about fair trades, and have been fortunate to find some folks who had the same frame of mind.

We'll just sum this up to: a blood clot in your leg traveled ultra fast to your brain and killed you.

Can a Macbook pro run on Dayz Standalone?
Gekkonidae replied to Bernie_101's topic in General Discussion
Can you guys stop going back and forth and just help the guy out? He asked a specific question about a Windows computer and wants your advice, yet only 1 person responded. Geez. -
How do you think DayZ Standalone is going?
Gekkonidae replied to Zedertone's topic in General Discussion
I kind of feel this way sometimes, but the upside to that is that if they keep sprinkling in little things like this, it will take a long time to figure every single thing out, making new (even if they are small) things to discover, ultimately making it not get boring so fast. I think the alpha is going well. I like that they are taking their time and implementing everything correctly. This only ensures that in the future we won't have disastrous bugs and crashing. I know that some of these things exist right now, but if you've ever alpha tested any game or software, you're going to have this kind of stuff. It's all part of the process. I know some people are worried about SOE's title and you have people complaining about how 'slow' it's going. Again, looking at the whole picture, i'd rather have it done right than to watch it be rushed and end up a shitty final product. I know there are a lot of impatient doomsayers out there that would argue anything i've said until they're blue in the face, but those are their opinions and I don't really give a shit about them. I think it will be a great game by the end of the year. I agree with chris t. on the whole SOE title competing with what we have here: "iron sharpens iron" I don't see anything particulary bad coming from this for DayZ. They will be completely different games at the end of it. I suspect that SOE's title will have to cater to a wider audience, which comes with a lot of 'carebear' bullshit, making it ultimately a 'fisher-price my first survival zombie simulator' when compared to the final product of DayZ. I can't really see another way around this for Sony if they expect to maximize on profit. They will have to cater to too many audiences. I think DayZ has bigger balls behind its vision in sticking with a more brutal and unforgiving basis to it. I think things are sailing along just fine Dayz, and they are making the game they want it to be :) I'm really excited for the end of the year and what we'll have in the game. I haven't played in about a month, but I will be jumping back in when this next patch comes out. -
oh god... I'd really hoped they wouldn't have figured this out. I remember in the mod, some hackers would turn themselves into sheep and goats. I'd hate to think that if the team working on hunting, released a grizzly bear that someone figured out how to hack themselves into. Invincible grizzly bear on a rampage does not sound like fun if you're on the business end of their attacks haha
