Making the switch to the machete!
Gekkonidae replied to CanadianBrooks's topic in General Discussion
Pretty much this. I thoroughly enjoy looting a pickaxe and then a construction helmet. I look like a deranged miner. -
As-50_Thermal and MP5K [ Standalone ]
Gekkonidae replied to preacherlr's topic in General Discussion
lol I figured. But then again, if it were there, I still wouldn't care too much. I took down a few people with AS-50s in the mod with nothing but a handgun. All about dem sneaks. I'm excited for an MP5K! low damage spray and pray, but they are quite nice little weapons. -
As-50_Thermal and MP5K [ Standalone ]
Gekkonidae replied to preacherlr's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't mind them adding a high powered rifle, like the AS-50 at all, but only if they made it nearly fucking impossible to get. Even then, without persistent storage, I wouldn't see it lasting too awefully long in the world without a group effort at not only protecting it, but being industrious enough to keep ammo around for it, which I would also assume would be extremely rare. Even then, I can only ask: why? It;s an anti-material rifle. Shooting people with it is a small fraction of what a weapon like that is capable of, and vehicles aren't currently in the game. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Maybe it's just a joke anyway :P -

we're likely getting the changelog tomorrow, when it's pushed to stable. it's balls-ass late/early over there right now. Edit: what above poster said. -

Dean said he was writing up a changelog, so i'd expect to see that soon for what has successfully been moved to stable. They are testing respawning loot with their basic loot respawning system. Basically, fight through rubberbanding to loot and possibly help them with their logging? I'm sure that after they log it for a while and get what they need, they can go in and fix the repositioning data from being sloth slow. I wouldn't expect them to fix this tonight. -

I'd say go ahead and do this. Maybe make an Experimental Discussion Forum and just have the stable updates come through here? It would certainly cut down on how congested these threads become and still maintain some order to them. Or at least have a place for many of the experimental testers to spew all of the information they get without having to return to this thread. -
The reason Zombie clipping isn't fixed.
Gekkonidae replied to Dontstealmycheese's topic in General Discussion
Can't help but agree. I think they should speed them up even more and make them right on your ass in droves once things like respawning and persistent objects make it in. They'll have to wait for the AI pathing to fine tune it, but I would think they can still tweak some things in the meantime, if that needed to happen. I ultimately want brutally hard zeds wrecking people who aren't careful. :) -
Well, the good news is that persistent storage should be introduced pretty soon. I'm hearing they are nearly finished with it. I'm not sure exactly what that entails. Whether it's something you can move around like a box or a tent, or something like a drawer or refridgerator that you cannot move, but they are coming for sure.

Patch notes for whenever they push this one to stable are going to be pretty large, i'm thinking. There's actually quite a bit going in by the end of the month, and then more stuff being pumped out directly after that. I'd just chill dudes. Stuff is definitely coming. -
Increase traffic inland by removing the tents at Balota
Gekkonidae replied to Grimey Rick's topic in Suggestions
^That would be pretty damn interesting if that does pan out to be true. I always liked completely random spawning in the mod (and the variations of it). I get a sense of that immersion back when I don't know exactly where i'm at, and that feeling of survival is quite clear. I know the routes on these eastern spawns, probably too well. -
Got Banned for some reason..."I actually wasn't hacking"
Gekkonidae replied to TaterSalad's topic in General Discussion
Well, if you respond to a criminal as to why exactly they did something wrong with anything having to do with the internet, the greater the chance they can reverse the process, or at least do something about it later. People can be quite intelligent, so I assume they do that as a safety precaution. There are actually a couple of reasons for taking that stance. Point is, their job is to protect, though they can always be wrong. Still, there isn't much point in stating anything public as to why they are wrong, and for some good reasoning. You should understand that If you expect to see anything of note come from your work in security, you always black-hole the information, all the time. -
Increase traffic inland by removing the tents at Balota
Gekkonidae replied to Grimey Rick's topic in Suggestions
I've thought of their eastern spawn point moves more as a placeholder to attempt to both somewhat equalize the chance of getting good loot and to also attempt to make people travel a little, while they worked on filling more gaps. I don't think it's their end game, but it is effective. I get a little sad seeing piles of instant gratification or un-experienced new players fist fighting on the coast while I run to cherno and clean house with literally no one there. I might feel that way for now, but it is what it is. I like exploring, but then again I came from the mod when it just started and have a little history on DayZ as a whole to help with my SA experiences. -

kind of on board with this response. I don't really think that forcing this would make any difference. The mechanic that enticed players to travel around was mainly persistent storage, and then other perks that helped fortify those those thoughts. I just think of human beings with that. I think about Native Americans and how they traveled. They always had the ability to tether from their shelter that stored their belongings. If we just wait, these features will be added, and I think you'll see a lot more roaming about the map. I'm not saying improvements can't be made, but that people hanging around on the coast is largely due to the lack of mechanics in the game at the moment. I also think that solution is two-fold. Once you have people with the ability to store shit, they will have a bigger potential arsenal, making coastal bandits a bigger threat, eventually forcing people to run inland to spread out and get away from those threats. That would also make balota and nwaf a hotbed sausage-fest for assholes (as it once was). I have no problem staying away from those areas, because there are alternative places to loot that can yield very close to the same results in terms of quality lewtz (know where to look). I also think they will change places to find 'leet scopez' and the like within a year, making those places not worthless, but somewhat obsolete. They aren't focusing so much on that at the moment because it's a massive project with many other priorities, i'm sure. All in due time. -

Gekkonidae replied to TaterSalad's topic in General Discussion
I happen to believe the guy as well. I don't think he'd come here asking for honest advice hoping someone would just fork over ways to work around anything on an official forum. You guys just telling him not to hack seems a little short-sighted and dull to me. IF you were legit banned for not doing anything, I sincerely hope you'll be able to enjoy the game again. Irish seems to offer some good advice on the matter. -

Yeah, I'd like variations of the torches myself. Would be cool to find one of those huge ass Flood Lights, or different colored lights. They are working on flares at the moment, so those should be in sometime pretty soon. I also hope they bring back chem lights. I found them pretty useful in the mod. -

Yeah I kind of agree. It was somewhat annoying to hear these noises randomly. Half the time they are half clips of the audio. I've noticed that they are getting really bad on experimental lately though. I'm hearing eating/drinking, people reloading and sorting ammo, zeds all the time, etc. The reloading really freaks me out. I'm hoping they address this one soon as well. -
Yeah, I've noticed the inability to switch weapons when a lot of people are on the server. Drinking and eating also take forever to complete when it's like this too. Hopefully these issues are fixed.

Me either. It really is that nice, once you get used to it. When I first logged in I moved my mouse a little and spun 360 lol. I find my aiming to be more easily controlled with 1:1 -
Agree and i've been thinking about it here and there. They really need to add these as harvested resources.
-
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here. You're annoyed by a person in the game that just so happens to have a black character. Even if the person playing the character were black, i'm still not sure I understand how this would be in any way racist. People who are annoying as fuck come in all colors and genders. I would have shot him sooner.

Someone please kill me broken leg, stuck inside a house
Gekkonidae replied to Someryguy10 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
That really sucks. I was in the same situation but stuck in one of those strip mall convenience stores. Thankfully it was a high traffic area, so I had no problem finding someone willing to donate a bullet to my noggin. Hope you find someone to help you out. As the others suggested you could always call on the medic team as they are fast responders. -
DayZ Experimental | More people are silent and do not want to talk?
Gekkonidae replied to theswedishcathead's topic in General Discussion
approach is everything in exp. servers. Or really regulars, too. I'm getting really fucking sick of hearing the nervous break of "wow, you're like that one guy who's actually nice to someone in Dayz".. it's really annoying. Anyone else getting this kind of response? -
DayZ Experimental | More people are silent and do not want to talk?
Gekkonidae replied to theswedishcathead's topic in General Discussion
So i talked today because someone shot me... I was coming into town and saw this guy on the roof of a school/office or whatever it is. It was a .22 and he hit me in the shoulder as I was approaching to talk. As soon as I realized what it was I decided to use my mic and started yelling at him "What the fuck do you think you're doing!?! I was coming up to see if you needed anything. Don't be a fucking asshole about it." Then dude comes down and says he's really sorry hahah! Traded him some more .22 ammo for some food and went on my way. Sheesh, some people just have an itchy finger. So now I've been shot, just not killed. Ran into 2 other guys in the same playing session. Found a blaze and some ammo for it and spray-painted it black. It was an extra gun, so I gave it to a newer guy moving inland, who swore I was going to blow him into pieces. Also ran into another guy that seemed to have everything but a gun, so I gave him an extra shotgun I picked up in the town before with 30 shells. I think I've done my good deeds for the day. -
What should be the civilian 5.56 rifle ?
Gekkonidae replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
Remington 700 with varmint barrel plz. Nice pic Gews. I have nearly that exact setup with my r700. I think it's a great Civ rifle. I would also be really interested to see that IZH18 in game. Excellent suggestions!
