Experimental Branch: 0.45 Discussion
Gekkonidae replied to SmashT's topic in PC Experimental Updates
From what I saw, there are 3 types of fires. Though, I could be wrong. An indoor fire, a cooking fire and a plain old fire. I wonder if all variations will be in with the update all at once. -
Which bullets are bigger/do more dmg?
Gekkonidae replied to frozenjaws's topic in General Discussion
He didn't specify what you'd be in a firefight with though, so technically he isn't. I would say this is accurate if you got into a nasty firefight with a crazy rabbit. -
"If you go to the beach and get sandy, it was your fault. Maybe he was cheap due to the hack, but take solace in the fact that he probably filled his canteen with your tears. So in essence, a part of you lives on, as long as that canteen exists. Cheerio!" Exactly. until he's pissed out those tears and is thirsty again. hacking (if it were the case) happens. The dev team is aware of it and will do what they need to. In the meantime, just find a lower pop server where the dickless swine won't target you so readily. I've seen 2 hackers now that killed me. It's alpha. restart and make another story for yourself. Try not to let it get you down so much. After all, they are literally still building the game.

I was actually thinking of a way to make torches the other day. I think this could be doable with maybe sticks and rags (torn shirts). But as far of the realistic aspect of it goes, I wouldn't really know. It would be awesome to have something like that though. Lanterns are nice, and I hear the fires are really nice, but I think this option would be pretty cool as well. I think it should be scaled more around the thought of a desperate attempt to see light as an "on the move" solution. I think they shouldn't last a really long time. You're putting yourself at risk, but at least you can make sense of things if only for just a little while. At least long enough to have a chance to point yourself in the right direction sort of thing. I haven't gone out and actually wrapped a ripped up shirt to a stick to see how long the fire lasts, but I would imagine it wouldn't be that long, unless a low burning fuel were involved. Good post. Flares are coming, so that's something!

Bambis should spawn with a 1 time use Bicycle to help with trekking.
Gekkonidae replied to blazed's topic in Suggestions
This has to be the most hilarious suggestion I've ever read. I don't think this can happen. I can only see it now: You're riding along with your friend, you see a huge pile of bicycles and corpses. Your friend rides ahead only to get smeared by a hail of bullets. You soon meet the same demise. 30 minutes later you see a huge horde of 30 people in a bicycle gang patrolling the coast, fully geared, running down bambis left and right. loooool -
Dayz players evolving together with the game
Gekkonidae replied to ld-airgrafix's topic in General Discussion
There are a lot of friendly people on the Exp. servers. Mainly, because most people are there to not only play, but to test/check out the new things. If they wanted an everyday deathmatch, they could just join a normal server. I have noticed that there are a lot more friendly people even on the normal servers lately though. KoSing has its fun, but I got pretty bored of it after a month or 2. I imagine I will do more of it later when persistent objects come into play (hopefully) at the end of May. Then, I think there will be more reason to become organized, resulting in more threats out there. Right now I just can't personally get behind a solid reason to murder people. I always find it more fun to play with complete strangers anyway. It's interesting at least. -
To the OP. I don't think you're doing anything wrong with your responses to people. My friendly encounters as an armed person or as a naked fresh spawn are all relatively well received. I think out of the last 15 or so times I've attempted to be friendly, i've only been shot at twice. killed once and then managed to dodge the second and was able to escape. When I approach someone as a fresh spawn or not, I keep my distance and give a friendly wave. I wait for them to respond by saying or typing something and see how it goes from there. I stay standing in case they want to be a dick and try to shoot me so that I have a chance to dodge. If it goes well, I move in closer but not too close. I never have my fists up. Step 3 in that for me is crouching down to show that again, i'm not out to take anything they've earned. At that point I stand back up as we decide what we will do. Whether it's part ways or travel together, or they have something I can use or I have something they can use that I don't really need. When I give someone an extra weapon (actually happens a lot) I always place the ammo further away from the pile of other shit i'm giving them and tell them the ammo is there right as I part ways. This buys me some time to get away if they decide to be a dick about it. Never really had a problem with it though. People are usually pretty appreciative that I decided to help them out. I really think it's mostly about your approach to people. It's not hard to tell when a person is legitimately trying to be cool with you. If you have a freshy running full speed at you, I think you'd be really stupid NOT to fill them with lead. There are always going to be instances where killing people isn't only warranted, but downright clear that it needs to be done. Having played for quite a bit now, I think it's pretty easy to determine most people's intentions.

molotovs that set people on fire, improvised grenades, other explosive bullshit would be nice.

Maybe the reason why they haven't added bicycles?
Gekkonidae replied to Loopest's topic in General Discussion
I think they will keep it like the mod. Vehicles bound to one server. So hide them well and they will likely not be taken by other people. -
I'v experienced that a few times myself. It's still there, but you have to change out weapons for it to appear. I think it's a bug Also, to the OP. I personally prefer the SKS over the M4. Killed 2 guys who had M4s with one yesterday and another one today. I like that it's semi-automatic only because it has forced me to take more controlled shots. Not to mention the availability of the weapon and ammo itself doesn't require a greater change to have to run to bum fuck idaho to get parts/mags for it. I don;t even pick up M4s anymore.

They are aware of that and said something about fixing it. I agree, with a female character it constantly sounds like she just finished a romp around the hay. :P

Don't forget the bow and arrow. This can be crafted using an Ashen stick + rope. Currently not firing arrows for the moment, but i'm guessing that next patch it will. It looks damn cool. Oh, and something minor, but hilarious. You can now beat people with frying pans and cooking pots.

I actually really like that idea.I think that it would be harder to track the player in the woods if this were the case, because of the textures. However, you'd be hard pressed not to find someone in town with this mechanic. I wonder how many resources this would actually take up with the server processing that information though. Still, definitely worth mentioning. I'd post this on the DayZ subreddit, too, if I were you. great suggestion!

Experimental Branch saw many changes in 0.44
Gekkonidae replied to SmashT's topic in News & Announcements
Awesome patch notes! I'm liking the first impressions of the pig. I can't wait until they put grizzly bears into the game. I hope they will be able to tear your face off, if you don't kill them first. :) Shoot bear with .22 sporter. Bear gets pissed off. run like hell. What would be more hilarious be watching someone get chased by a bunch of zeds AND bears at the same time. -

Yeah they said persistent objects are pretty close to being done, so it shouldn't be too long now. Persistent storage and campfires (and flares) are the two big things that i'm personally wanting in. I think persistent storage will be a game changer and we will start to see more organized play from people. It will also help give people more of an incentive to move around the map more if they can stockpile shit. Campfires and flares just make it easier and more fun to play at night. -
Making the switch to the machete!

Pretty much this. I thoroughly enjoy looting a pickaxe and then a construction helmet. I look like a deranged miner. -
Experimental Branch: 0.45 Discussion
Gekkonidae replied to SmashT's topic in PC Experimental Updates
Figured that's what was meant. Quote from Dean: "Experimental is a branch for us to experiment with. We were experimenting with large player numbers to gather metrics. We are currently experimenting with loot respawn mechanics to gather metrics for that. We then use these metrics to improve the game for stable patches." So get on there and loot a bunch of shit to help add to the data they are pulling :) -
As-50_Thermal and MP5K [ Standalone ]
Gekkonidae replied to preacherlr's topic in General Discussion
lol I figured. But then again, if it were there, I still wouldn't care too much. I took down a few people with AS-50s in the mod with nothing but a handgun. All about dem sneaks. I'm excited for an MP5K! low damage spray and pray, but they are quite nice little weapons. -
As-50_Thermal and MP5K [ Standalone ]
Gekkonidae replied to preacherlr's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't mind them adding a high powered rifle, like the AS-50 at all, but only if they made it nearly fucking impossible to get. Even then, without persistent storage, I wouldn't see it lasting too awefully long in the world without a group effort at not only protecting it, but being industrious enough to keep ammo around for it, which I would also assume would be extremely rare. Even then, I can only ask: why? It;s an anti-material rifle. Shooting people with it is a small fraction of what a weapon like that is capable of, and vehicles aren't currently in the game. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Maybe it's just a joke anyway :P -
Rolling Update Rev - 0.43.116251

we're likely getting the changelog tomorrow, when it's pushed to stable. it's balls-ass late/early over there right now. Edit: what above poster said. -

Gekkonidae replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
Dean said he was writing up a changelog, so i'd expect to see that soon for what has successfully been moved to stable. They are testing respawning loot with their basic loot respawning system. Basically, fight through rubberbanding to loot and possibly help them with their logging? I'm sure that after they log it for a while and get what they need, they can go in and fix the repositioning data from being sloth slow. I wouldn't expect them to fix this tonight. -

I'd say go ahead and do this. Maybe make an Experimental Discussion Forum and just have the stable updates come through here? It would certainly cut down on how congested these threads become and still maintain some order to them. Or at least have a place for many of the experimental testers to spew all of the information they get without having to return to this thread.
