beans, rice, ammo, medical supplies. In most games where the community creates a currency system, most items that provide somewhat lasting benefits usually make their way into the player-made trade system. I would think anything within the current meta that provides these benefits could be made into currency. I would encourage you guys to go ahead and think logically about it and offer these things for barter. I traded 3 bags of rice for a short range scope for a mosin once and thought that was relatively fair.

For those asking for the 'password', those 2 servers online at the moment are INTERNAL testing servers only. Those are for the dev team and no one else. The other experimental servers will be back online in about 4 hours. So exclude those 2 from your searches when looking for a server to join later. -

keep your helmets pristine if you want to take a shot. Make sure they are pristine with motorcycle helmets too if you want punches to the head without getting KO'd as easily. -

I've been both the executioner and the good guy in this story. Depends on the mood i'm in and whether I identify you as truly new and in need of help, or just another nerdy sonofabitch looking for a weakness. Even as a bandit, i'll usually (not always. if they have something I want, they get murdered) pay forward a good deed by someone and have their back, even if it means getting shot. I'll usually stick it out until I know the person who did me a favor is relatively safe enough on their own. There are straight up good guys, but don't forget that there are also halfway decent bandits out there too sometimes (if you aren't getting shot at by them anyway) :) -
That's another good suggestion that my friends have also used. They will give them the gun, make them stay put, then tell them where the ammo is right as they take off (they place it somewhere opposite of where they are running to.) If it's an FnX, they will empty the clip and put the bullets in 1 pile and clip next to it, buying them more time.

Being the Hero/Anti-Player Killer is always harder. I've spent many many hours on both sides of the fence. If you want more of a challenge, step up to the front lines and try to be a PK hunter. Personally, I enjoy being a Bandit, (and a reasonable one at that. I don't always KoS, and no more newspawns for fun unless they try to Mike Tyson me) but I know that being a Hero/Medic is a serious risk 90% of the time. Though I would shoot one in a second, I do commend anyone for trying to fill the roll. It's a fucking tough one. I split my time in the mod doing this, where no real true 'classes' existed, and also with my 10 month stint playing DayZ Origins, where you had to really work at being a hero or bandit, and were awarded points for being either or in various ways. Nothing game-breaking, but people knew you were one or the other. From my experience, being a 'Hero' is a lot harder than being a bandit.

Aside from being shot, cuffed and force fed poisonous chemicals and fighting a losing battle against overpowered ladders, it sounds like you had a good first run, even though it was cut short! I'm a bandit, and even I am typically nice to fresh spawns, given they are nice to me. Even some of us murderers have at least some class in this game, if you look hard enough. ;) Also, welcome to DayZ! -

Agreed. I wouldn't think it would be out until at least tomorrow here in the U.S. Get some sleep. I know I will be. I'll be dreaming of berries and shotguns. Also, I would think so. Looking at the map and what Dean has said, that it being a coastal city (as it is in real life), this seems to be the logical place for it. Looks like a sniper's wet dream with the forests surrounding it there though. Safe travels! -

Yep. Pretty much reminds me of the Lee Enfield in the Mod. I don't think it will always be the strongest weapon out there, but for now it makes a nice mid-range sniper rifle 'death laser' lol -

^in addition to what he says, use landmarks and compare those to the map to help find out where you are when you get in. After a while, you'll rarely need the map at all. -

Same thing happened to me earlier today. Server was acting weird, no icon to open/close door. it appeared once the first time, but opening it did nothing. Zed saw me, ran through wall and tried to hit me. I logged off. Logged back in and it fixed it. Ran to a construction site. was walking down stairs (not running) towards the wall, everything froze. 5 seconds later "you are dead". I was fully kitted too and it really pissed me off. I also notice being randomly frozen for a few seconds to be unfrozen inside of a wall or an entirely different building and have to run+vault out. I really do feel your pain here, but this is an alpha man. Just roll the dice again and keep on going. It's going to happen.

Not only that, but Dean said it's a coastal city. (It is in real life, too) That's nearly the only logical place for it is next to Guba.

From my experiences with the Mod shotgun, it seems accurately portrayed. It was actually one of my favorite weapons in urban combat. I cannot tell you how many times I dropped an AK in favor of a shotty in a city battle just because it felt cooler. Scored some pretty nice kills with them too. I'm not sure about the SA, but I do know that with the mod, they couldn't calculate damage per single "pellet", so they had to make them all the same damage. All that told me is "why use a slug then if it does the same damage with more spread with pellets?", so I've always used pellets and then slugs when i ran out of pellets. They seem pretty decent for about 100 meters imo, but their effectiveness seems to start to drop pretty drastically after that. I think I've landed a couple of kills outside of 100m, but not too often. I'm pretty damn excited about having a shotgun! I will likely drop my decked out Mosin as soon as I find one. I've been saving up shells :) I'm really interested to see the effective range of the sawed off. I'm sure much less, but that 3-4x spread has got to be pretty badass!! Imagine being held up and taking out 2-3 guys at once with that thing. "Surprise, bitch!"

Agree with Dayz3000 here. You guys have more options now. Use them and quit QQing. leave it the way it is and quit crying about it. I've really seen enough of these threads. A lot of people act like it's some sort of totally unequal playing field. Adapt and use what you have available to you, or go play 1PP. -
So, I actually did the same thing for 2 noobs that were travelling together the other day. I found 2 extra .357s, and already I had an FnX for myself. I decided to pick them up for a couple of buddies who bought the game. Ran into two freshies before I was able to give them to my buddies. I had my mosin out and they thought I was going to jack their shit. I did take a can of food from them, and then placed a magnum with a stack of ammo in each of their backpacks and told them to be safe as I ran off into the woods. They were saying "awesome!! thank you!" as I was running off. Was all good though, as I later found an extra mosin for 1 of my buddies. I can be nice sometimes. I'm not always a bastard. If i thought they were going to be little pricks, I wouldn't have given them the guns and just executed them instead, but they were nice guys and complied. Actually, I usually pick up useful extra shit for people who I might run into. You never know, you could use those extra items as a bargaining chip to show you're willing to team up with someone for a time. In the few times I've done it, it's been well received and I never had my head blown off because of it.

Pretty much agree with this. IRL I have a Remington 700 model base and modded it (with legal parts!) and it could really more or less double as an M24. Which is a sniper rifle. It doesn't really make a difference. I think that what they have here from a development standpoint is an opportunity to give you some basic weapons and you need to find attachments, as opposed to just getting a fully decked out rifle right off the bat. Making it harder to obtain these things. The word "Sniper Rifle" shouldn't really be associated with "Omg it's bad!", but I do think they should keep an eye on how they implement things and at what frequency. I think it would suck to just find an AS50 right off the bat and go stomp noobs with it. That's too OP imo. Make that shit really rare. -
^I find it more fun to go this way lately. I always check the rocky cliffs along the coastline or the immediate woodline and you'll find all kinds of nerds trying to newspawn kill. Such easy killing. Such innocence in those puppy bandits. xD For those of you going full-time anti-killer, always do that and check spawn locations. also, use buildings in key locations of where you'd think they'd travel to your advantage, as most new idiots wont even check windows on any structure. I don't kill killers on a constant basis, but I know how to hunt bitches. Edit: OP, man up or fuck off. It is your choice to play how you want to play. I would advise choosing to be more intelligent about your choices for starters.

AoLPoncho, they will first be released on the experimental servers (alpha test environment) sometime they think on Monday. Those are testing servers and not stable release servers. After they tweak everything and deem it suitable for stable, they will push the patch out to all of the stable servers (live server environment). They are adding private server support (fuck yes!), so the patch will be on both main hive and private hive servers alike. They are thinking by next Friday it should be on stable, assuming nothing crazy game-breaking happens. -
DayZ Origins uses tranq arrows in a crossbow and I must say it's pretty hilarious. They also have epi-pen-like arrows/darts for them to wake them back up. Chloroform on rags could be used like handcuffs, in that it takes time to perform the maneuver? I like the bean bag in shotgun thing, but i also think it should have a chance to fail.
