I agree, but take it easy on him. He's inquiring, too, which is a good thing.

Most importantly is your second point. This game wasn't really meant for those that wanted anything less than a hardcore experience. Get good at dealing with this, and you'll ultimately be a better player.
-
I didn't want to quote the whole thing, but here here! Good post! (I'm personally fine with a vanilla 1PP or a 3PP private server. Cannot wait for private servers. screw server hoppers, show me some actual fucking skill with the time you've spent surviving.)

What do you do when in a mexican stand off
Gekkonidae replied to gannon46's topic in General Discussion
How about just shooting as many people as you can, and then get the fuck out of there, if you're still alive? That should have been option D. Usually in a standoff, i'll ask someone what they want and as soon as they start talking I shoot them. Best head start ever, and every bitch has something stupid to say. -
I'd say get on 'the level' that other players are to some extent, have some patience and you'll be fine. You have to deal with the inherent inhumanity this game delivers. It's not going to go away. However, that doesn't mean you cannot carve out a little piece of the experience you want from it. You'll need to work for that. This isn't the same game you've been playing your whole life, but that doesn't mean you cannot find enjoyment out of it. Find some people to play with and see if they'll stick it out with you for better protection and don't trust so many people. You'll live longer. I'm not saying kill everything that moves, but be ready for someone who does.

Bandits Bandits Bandits Bandits....
Gekkonidae replied to CeKiiN Aka EaSy#'s topic in General Discussion
People get upset with these threads because they're seemingly made at least once every 30 minutes. A good percentage of people KoS mostly out of fear that they will get KoS'd. It's a fact. There are true bandits out there, but most people don't want to take the off chance you will try to pull a fast one on them. It's a part of the game that makes the game as great as it is. Continuous KoS won't stop, but I think the overall dynamic will change somewhat over time. I'm a bandit, but i'm not an instant KoS kind of dude, unless it's quite apparent that someone acting like a bitch in any regard. (or has something I want) :) There are nice people out there, just keep playing and be patient. Edit: The best thing you can do is try to join a group/clan and communicate with them via teamspeak. This will usually give you some brotherhood and a better chance of survival. Don't say I never did anything for ya :-P -

I'd say at this rate, they're at home in bed getting rest so they can fix the bug and try to deliver the goods to everyone tomorrow. Be patient folks. -
Unarmed fighting needs to be severely nerfed
Gekkonidae replied to andrestor's topic in General Discussion
I kind of agree with this if anything. I figured a baseball bat would do a lot more damage than it actually does. A wrench, too? I mean those industrial wrenches could pretty much bash someone's skull in at full force. I think shovels should have a greater chance to make someone bleed seeing as if you hit them with the edge it has a greater chance to do more lacerating damage. Maybe not an instant KO, but it could easily make someone bleed a little. -

I'm going to put one on my head and run blindly along the coast for the lulz of it. I wonder how it will take me to get killed. -

swordfish duels?

Good point. This has me thinking, generally, when i'm playing in support of a team, I generally strive to carry anything that would cover most situations. Here's my list of valued items for that role: canteens rice couple cans of beans saline bags (with the iv already attached and ready to go) bandages blood test kits 1 blood bag epi pen disinfect spray ammo clips/boxes for mosins loose pistol ammo
-
because, ruined? Even in 3rd world countries wrought with death they've had a currency/barter system of some sort.
-
I agree. Ammo isn't bad. So let's come up with their worth then. Bullets outside of a mag? or bullets in the mag? Remember, the mag itself would be worth something, so how could we calculate their worth based on their rarity? Going the other direction, I took a look at this guys food breakdown (which is really helpful): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOODoxaOQ0c#t=325 Based on what energy/water these items give you I took a wild stab at food value using the point system I described. Keep in mind this could easily be converted to be more in line with the 'bullet currency' system if we could get a better idea of their value first: item point value? Canteen 3 Water Bottle 1 Soda 1 Bag of Rice 4 Powdered Milk 1 Cereal 1 Nanner 2 Apple 2 Orange 2 Kiwi 1 Beans 2 Spaghetti 2 Tuna 2 Sardines 1 Keep in mind that this is a wild stab, so don't flame me for it. If you think i'm wrong about something, please correct me. I'm just generating ideas here. With this information available, it isn't hard to at least give a guess as to what food could somewhat be realistically valued at.
-
Screw that, let's create a community based black-market economy now lol
-
Yeah anything you can newly spawn with is pretty much useless. Though, in all fairness, I would trade a lower end can of food for a stack of 6 rags, for example. Batteries are worthless until there is more of a need for them. And even then, you could just die a bunch and be stocked on batteries, so their value is heavily diminished.
-
We could invent a point system. Say 1 bag of rice was worth 1 point. a 60 round double clip is worth 4 points, etc. What should we call the points? If this were to be made and at least loosely accepted by the community, you'd want a good name for these points. Yes, this is a feeble attempt at creating an economy, but if enough people were on board, those of us that want to trade (without any shenanigans) could have an easy way to look up the general value of something.
-
Well, we could always use this thread as a discussion to establish what could be, by the communities standards, the value of specific items. Let's start talking about the current meta (obviously the new patch is coming, and may effect values slightly) For starters: We know that beans and rice are the best foods for the amount of energy you get from them. We can fill up on water at pumps, so there's not a whole lot of value there. Maybe there is some value to canteens, as they would be attractive to players running long distances without needed to drink from a pump. Ammo is an obvious item that could be used as currency. 60 round double clips are good. say, 3 - 60 round double clips would be equal to 1 bare bones M4? Not sure there since their rarity is going up. Usually with games like this, someone sits down and does a table showing values, and people tweak it based on what they've researched. This post is mainly made to get people talking about what they think things are worth.
-
Not necessarily. My group would do trades with others in Dayz Origins. We would have snipers overwatching the situation in case someone decided to be an asshole. Out of about a half dozen or more trades, only 1 guy tried to be a dick and he was killed instantly.

that video was hilarious lol
