Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.42.116002
Gekkonidae replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
They really should be. It makes sense to be able to start a fire from an abandoned house's fireplace. Although, I personally think they should make it so that smoke comes out of the chimneys (if they are there anyway), alerting others in the area that a fire is there. Not a ton of smoke, but enough to where if you were looking for it, you could likely tell the difference from a bit of a distance. At night, it's obvious they would emit light as well. Just my two cents :) -
The Ruger MKII Is Coming, But Whats It Like?
Gekkonidae replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
I'm going to guess that, damage-wise, it will probably suck. However, the ability to be silent and take out zeds without ringing the 'bandit dinner bell' will make it worth it to carry. -
Yeah, I noticed they seem to have more of a "path" now, which allows me to maneuver around stuff to get rid of them a lot easier than before. Kind of nice, but I too don't expect them to have zed pathing/behavior nailed down for a while. I believe the same team working on the animals+hunting will be responsible for the zed stuff as well, if I remember correctly.

Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.42.116002
Gekkonidae replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
There was a temporary 'ping' sound when you would get wet from the rain. This was just a testing method placed into one of the experimental builds to help the devs determine that it was properly flagging players to get wet/dry during rain. I think I only played once when it was in. Just one of those dev test things. Not really a big deal and just one of those expected things in an alpha/experimental build imo. -
Experimental servers: A word to the devs
Gekkonidae replied to finnpalm's topic in General Discussion
I usually find more people are friendly on the testing servers. Maybe it's just me, but i've only ever been shot at once while on experimental. -
I haven't slept in 2 days after this event. HELP!
Gekkonidae replied to mooky32's topic in General Discussion
I almost always do this and then announce I am there so that they don't make any rash decisions. Besides, If my initial intent were to kill them, I would have already been shooting. Sometimes they want to be left alone, so I leave. Other times they are cool with trading or travelling for a bit. Either way is fine with me, but that's generally how I approach people and it seems to work. If I made myself seen and then hid, without saying anything, I wouldn't blame the other person for shooting the fuck out of me. -
When Base Building Is Introduced, What Will You Build?
Gekkonidae replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Just the place to relax in the evening after a long bandit run. I'll pay you and your strippers in beans, good sir. -

Campfires to be added within the next 2 weeks. Fucking pumped! -

I think exactly this. They are just using some backpacks for testing out the functionality. That doesn't mean they will be the final item for stashing stuff. Probably using backpacks because they are already coded in. They can focus on the item persistence code instead of writing up a whole new item for the moment. -
I gave you beans until you said you actually cried. Frustrated, sure. A little pissed, understandable. However, there's no crying in an apocalypse game. No beans for you, but I do agree with the rest of your post.

hahah!! More or less what blissful said. It would be a low priority addition, but quite hilarious! Hands free'd, you could just remove it. But handcuffed, looooool!

The concept is nothing new, really. Clans and/or networks of clans would post on boards or in teamspeak to put out hits on others in the mod and other mods (origins and epoch). I remember going to another clan's TS to have them help our clan attack bases, take out a specific targets that were terrorizing a town, etc. Takes about 5-10 minutes to assemble an army and wipe others out. We typically only did this with some sort of morality involved, as you mentioned a "serial killer bandit". Usually we went after assholes. I think the only time it didn't work was once out of the dozen or so "strikes" we called for. And even then, the battle lasted about 45 minutes and shit was blowing up all over the place haha.

What do you keep in your inventory? My backpack versus my friends.
Gekkonidae replied to Hagon94's topic in General Discussion
I always carry the basics. Ammo, food, some med supplies. I also carry basic essentials for other players like an extra axe, extra food/drinks and bandages. If I find a spare pistol i'll keep that for another player, too. Maybe that's just the nice guy in me. I've handed stuff out pretty regularly, and it's been appreciated every time. -
Hicks just posted an updated version of server hosting rules this morning: http://dayzgame.com/downloads/Server_Hosting_Rules_Public.pdf So technically, this could be viewed as abuse. I'd report it and let the hosting service investigate it.

Not intentionally, but I have accidentally glitched through a couple of these. It's freaking annoying as hell.

I will begin gathering sticks and rocks for the upcoming patches in a couple of weeks. It will be time to bring a whole new terror to the coasts. Poking fresh spawns with sticks and throwing rocks at them.

Announcing the Dayz League of Baseball [DLB] !
Gekkonidae replied to knar33's topic in General Discussion
I can roll umpire for the league if you need one. I have a voice changing program that I can use to make a grovely, hardened umpire voice. "YOU'RE OUTTA THERE!!!" -
And it's only going to get better. I imagine looking back on it a year from now and will likely be blown away at how much things have changed. I'll give my congrats here. Keep up the awesome hard work team! It's all very much appreciated!

Why does no one use the text chat in game?
Gekkonidae replied to iBane's topic in General Discussion
I use it when my mic is muted and don't ever seem to have any problems with it. When my mic has been muted, direct chat has saved my ass on numerous occasions. -
Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)
Gekkonidae replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
I'd imagine that eventually they could code in some sort of catching mechanic. But for now, just the throwing mechanics/physics alone is pretty badass. As soon as this hits experimental, i'll be throwing rocks at fresh spawns for the lulz. -
Who wants to form a sweet settlement way up in the northwest?
Gekkonidae replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
I've been all over up north. In my 130 or so hours of playing, I've spent a majority of time scoping out spots to put persistent storage items. I'm not even about to talk about the cool/nice places I've seen on here though :P I'd recommend heading inland, bulking up on food and drink and spending 6 or so hours exploring :) Mark interesting places on the map for later. -
Who wants to form a sweet settlement way up in the northwest?
Gekkonidae replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
Very true. I think it will be interesting to see. I played a hell of a lot of DayZ Origins and it was really interesting to see what ideas people came up with on where to set up camps. -

hunting partners? I can help you track and hunt. Besides, always nice to have someone watch your back. :P
